Kyma is definitely a must-visit in downtown Somerville! The first time I visited about a year ago, we sat inside and had a wonderful experience. Everything was delicious, especially the Greek Fries and the fondue. On my most recent visit (July 2026), we called ahead to see if we could sit on the patio with our dog, and the answer was yes! Their outdoor seating is dog-friendly. It was a beautiful summer Monday evening, just two of us and my pup. The staff couldn't have been more welcoming. They gave my dog so much attention, brought him a water bowl, and even let us order a side of steak for him, which he absolutely loved. To start, we shared the beet salad and the grilled halloumi. Both were outstanding, but the halloumi was especially memorable. For our entrées, we each ordered the steak souvlaki. The steaks were cooked perfectly and the portions were incredibly generous, so we both had plenty left over to take home. As someone who eats gluten-free, I also really appreciated how many gluten-free options were available and how accommodating the staff was. The service truly stood out. Everyone was warm, attentive, and went above and beyond to make our visit special. The patio is a wonderful place to dine on a warm evening, but the interior is absolutely beautiful as well--you really can't go wrong either way! Kyma was so good, I'm already making plans to go back! I accidentally stumbled upon this place after the original spot I was trying to go to was unexpectedly closed, but boy am I happy that it worked out this way. I was here for lunch, and while they do have certain menu items that are only available for dinner, with the good variety on their menu you'll still be sure to find something you like. They start you off with some pita and a type of hummus. The server was super sweet, helping us with any questions we had on the menu. For starters, we got the grilled halloumi, which came with the most amazing fig jam on the side and fried tomatoes that balanced out the whole dish perfectly. We then tried the salmon and the Xristos salad for our mains. Both were super fresh and came in big portions. The taste was amazing and everything was reasonably priced. The inside was super bright and definitely had that Mediterranean feel. We ended up sitting outside because it was a beautiful day, and they had umbrellas for the sun. After a rough start at another area restaurant which we left after appetizers and disappointing service we found Kyma Greek on Yelp and headed right over. Out experience deserved more than 5 stars. Since we had appetizers elsewhere we opted to share a dish that Saul highly recommended--- the lamb shank with a tapas dish of spanakopita. Our meal was prepared and plated to perfection. With a fork the meat melted off the shank done into the tomato based rice mix. So tender and tasty. As was the spanakopita which came in 4 individual triangle shaped pieces. The first time I came here I got the kalamari and mussels and both were super delicious. Kyma is one of the best restaurants in the area. Both the food and service are exceptional (Saul is amazing). We typically start with the crazy feta spread and zucchini fritters. For our meals we get the chicken Milanese and the pork chop. The chicken cutlet is massive but also thin and fried perfectly. My BF is a big pork chop fan and this is definitely in his top 3 ever. I came back here for the first time in awhile. The menu seemed to be smaller than I remember. For starters, the four spreads were ordered. The spreads consisted of cucumber, spicy feta, smoked eggplant, and hummus. The cucumber was essentially a tzatziki that was really great. The spicy feta had a slight kick to it and was smooth. I visited this restaurant on a Friday evening and there were only a couple of people at the restaurant. I am not sure what I expected going into this restaurant. I have little to no knowledge on Greek culture, so I was coming into this ready to learn. Once I was finished eating there were so many more people at the restaurant. It was a completely different atmosphere than when I first got there. I learned that dinner in Greece (and Europe) usually is around a later time than here in the United States. As soon as I went inside the restaurant I immediately noticed the difference between an American restaurant and this one. The restaurant had such a beautifully curated decor. There were perfectly placed lighting throughout the restaurant. Halfway through my dinner, they dimmed the lights at the restaurant. The restaurant name Kyma, is Greek for "Wave". The connection to the seafood that they provided. I saw the concept of the restaurant as a modern presentation of Greek food and some of its culinary roots. The hospitality I received was amazing. Everyone was so polite there and the service was impeccable. I was prompted to come to this place because someone I know recommended it to me last month. I am not the type of person to go out and eat, especially somewhere I am not familiar with. With this project, I thought that this was the perfect opportunity to try this location out. I felt welcomed here at this restaurant. I also got some warm pita bread. This is apparently essential in Greek cuisine. I was also served rice and salad. One thing that stood out from this experience was that the waiter constantly came back to reserve my water. This reveals a lot about the culture and the deep commitment to hospitality. In my previous dining experience, something like this is usually an afterthought. This was a very eye opening experience for me. I enjoyed the food but the knowledge I acquired during my time here is astonishing. After I was done with the meal, the waiter offered me coffee. I learned that it is typical in Greek culture to end dinner off with a coffee rather than a dessert (although that was offered to me as well). In Greek culture, it is normal for people to sit and talk for hours during and after a meal. A dinner is so much more than what it is here, it is a social gathering, which is why they offer coffee at the end. At this restaurant, there was no pressure to leave and go home. I really felt like I was a part of the cultural vibe at this restaurant. As for the material aspects of the settings, when I walked inside I noticed the grey tone colors all over the place. The paint of the walls looked nice and fresh. The restaurant itself was a nice presentation for those who walked in. They had a nice interior decor. The main colors that were present were blue and gray. The maintenance of the place was very well kept, this was no ordinary fast food restaurant. The lighting creates a warm and inviting atmosphere, perfect for a celebratory evening. There were branches on the wall, all painted gray. I mentioned earlier that halfway through my dinner, the restaurant dimmed the lights. Although most people did not notice (perhaps they have been here before) I immediately noticed when it happened. It was a true fine dining experience. On some of the walls, there were some abstract paintings with no known meaning behind them. The tables here were square and rectangle wooden, with no visible marks or damage on them. The chairs of the restaurant were painted white with a high back for comfortable seating. The table setting was white cloth napkins, polished silverware, clear stemmed glassware. Tables were pre-set in a minimal yet elegant style. That seemed to be the theme of the restaurant. Although I did not visit this corner of the restaurant, there was a bar area for all the customers. Also, many customers arrive with their own bottles of wine. I simply ordered some lemon water as my beverage of choice. The bar featured glass shelving showcasing spirits and wine, with strategic lighting to highlight the bottles. I noticed that there was some soft music in the background of the restaurant. I learned that they were playing some soft, instrumental Greek and Mediterranean music. I arrived around 6PM and the restaurant was mostly quiet, perhaps there were maybe 1-2 other tables there. But by the time I left (estimated around 8PM), it was busy and filled with people. Both were delicious and the chicken Milanese was still crispy by the time I got home, which isn't the case typically. I inhaled my entire meal and wish there was more lemon sauce on my fileto or served in a container. I noticed the sauce was absorbed into the paper container so that was my only suggestion. Price is a lil high for the portion. Don't worry though, we still enjoyed it and will be back, maybe dine in since the restaurant is beautiful and clean. Came here from Brooklyn NY and had to call to see if they were owned by the owners of Kyma in New York which they are not. I would start by saying the food is good although since I've been to a lot of Greek restaurants I was not wowed. The service overall was "good not great". Everyone was nice although did not make that personal connection I'm use to. The decor is nice, nothing fancy and if I had to give a hard rating overall it would be 3.5 not 4. Maybe because my expectation was slightly higher since I drove an hour each way from Brooklyn. One advantage is they are BYOB so it's a bit of any money saver if you are a wine drinker. I want to get a few negatives out of the way as I liked the restaurant and hope the owners will read this review and follow up to improve the customer experience. 1. I found it odd that when they said the chef requests that they take the appetizers and entrees together they did not tell me there was any type of time limit on the table. This came out when after finishing the appetizers I said I need at least 20 minutes to digest my food and hoped they didn't put the entrees in. Luckily they were not put it and the subject didn't come up again. 2. At the end of the meal I used the bathroom and one male employee finished his business and bolted out of the bathroom without washing his hands. Eww! Our waitress was nice, made good recommendations and we were pleased with the meal. I would not drive out again although this would be nice for me if I lived in the area. Somerville NJ is a nice town with a lot of nice restaurants and shops to see. We shared a few appetizers which were the zucchini fritters, shrimp ouzo, cara cara salad and the roasted cauliflower. They were all good and the roasted cauliflower was the best. For dinner we had the special which was halibut served with broccoli. We switched the broccoli for rice with spinach. We also had the bronzino fillet and steak kebab. Their menu has a good variety and you will not go hungry. Portions were large, prices were fair and they serve complimentary plenty of pita and hummus which was warmed on the grill. For desert we had the warm chocolate cake and hot tea.
