Locally owned cafe on Greenwell Springs Road in N Baton Rouge area, almost to Central. I've been here twice and had to get the delicious shrimp Poboy both times! I'm a critic of Poboy bread, but this one I love. I don't bother to get fries, but since these are included (and quite yummy), I gobble them up too! I hope to try the breakfast menu one day but haven't found myself in the area at that time yet. As far as I can tell, Cafe Jeanpierre is a one woman show! Again, I've only been there twice, but both times it's just the owner. She's quick to get the orders made and polite. No small talk, but that's perfectly okay. She also has lots of plants she tends to in the window that I love to admire. I first heard about this cafe several years ago in the news, so I'm glad I've finally doin it and been able to appreciate the awesome reputation. I ordered from Cafe Jeanpierre for breakfast split between my mother and myself. I ordered the chicken and waffles with a side of hash-browns; while my mom had the large breakfast with eggs, a meat, and grits. Overall, a pretty good breakfast spot! Very friendly and willing to help. Knowledgeable about the menu. Clean! Had the ribs with double order of green beans. My husband had ribs with Mac and cheese and baked beans they were all very tasty! Would recommend and will return. Came back today for breakfast not busy(one other table)but still had a little bit of a wait for our food. Tucked away in a little strip of businesses. Inside was clean with a clear list of specials written on a blackboard (they listen to customer feedback). Excited to see a full coffee selection. The waitress was pleasant. The locals eat here and have great things to say about the owner, the staff and the food. I ordered sort of a la cart style and got a nice selection for a great price. Read the reviews and decided I had to try this place before heading home to Shreveport. I wasn't disappointed! Ordered an omelet with all the veggies, turkey bacon and whole wheat toast. When I got the omelet I thought there's no way I'm eating all that, but it was too good to stop. My bread wasn't slathered in butter and the best part was the serve yourself coffee. A nice little neighborhood cafe with seasoned, flavorful, affordable food. Nice family feel and laid back atmosphere. My family of three enjoyed a great Friday night dinner here and enjoyed watching family feud on the dining area tv. When we entered, we were greeted warmly by the cashier, who verbally shared specials for the day. It is a bit confusing when you enter as there is a big whiteboard with menu listings, but no pricing. I mentioned to the cashier and she provided me with a regular menu. I always get a little anxiety when ordering at the counter, especially for a menu that is very expansive, but settled on the fried catfish and shrimp dinner. It was an excellent choice! The shrimp and catfish were both seasoned to perfection. It was served with fries and hushpuppies (nothing fancy here, but hot and fresh). My husband went with the seafood etouffee with fried catfish. Great portion and again very flavorful. My daughter opted for the hamburger with fries. Yowzah! The burger was huge, with a homemade patty. Delicious! We were very pleased and saw only two areas where they can improve (1) I was looking forward to good sweet tea, but it tasted stale and wasn't good at all. (2) It is nice and cozy, but needs much better ventilation. My family and I all smelled like grease and fried chicken when we got in our car. Yikes! The smell is still in my hair and in my clothes. When you go, ask what the daily special is!! They had ribs but we didn't know until we heard someone ordering while we eat. They had soup listed but they don't serve them till winter time. We got roast beef and the seafood platter tasted really good, but the only sides are fries and plain chips, wish they had veggies! read more

We stopped in our way back from Florida with the whole family and were blown away by the flavor of the blackened fish dish. The salads were fresh and crunchy and the kids really enjoyed their po boys. We definitely would love to go back and eat more of the menu offerings. No organization or greeting when you walk in, there is no sign to say order here or at the table or wait to be seated, etc. We arrived on a Saturday morning for breakfast.The tv was so loud. It took over 1 hour for our food to come out and it was wrong, cold and terrible. There were so many people walking around you couldn't tell who was a customer and who worked there. They need bright colored shirts and name tags so their customers will know who is an employee and who's just there to visit with the owner and staff. I will not be going back. read more
