Aside from the menu items this Iverstine also provides a hot line lunch which offers main courses, meats, sides and desserts. When I visited we got the Double Butcher Burger and the Hanz & Franzwich. The burger was good although, a little overcooked. It was not in my top 10 burgers and was too pricey to be served alone with no chips or fries, which is my main complaint with this place. The prices are very high and do not match the flavor or amount of food you get. I also tried their Sweet Potato Casserole (I believe that's what is it called), it was very good. Before I left I bought a pack of their beef hot dogs. That weekend we cooked them over an open fire and they were delicious. read more

Iverstine is a great lunch spot in Baton Rouge. I am always on the lookout for new lunch spots. We often hit up the safe few and it's hard to get the team to venture out. I saw Iverstines in a YouTube clip and it looked intriguing. Apparently it's intriguing to lots of people because it was packed when we went. Despite the crowd, the wait was brief and the staff was friendly and keeping people moving. On our first visit we got sandwiches. The Cuban was a great choice. It was everything a Cuban should be. I would've liked more mustard but it was the best Cuban I've had in BR. Next trip we did a plate lunch. At the recommendation of a dude in line, I got the Tri tip. Solid choice. The green beans on the side were very good. In addition to the lunches, Iverstine is a full butcher. I will report back when I try some of their pre packed stuff. PS. They sell a hat with a piece of bacon on it that says Thiccccc. If anyone wants to get me that as a Christmas gift, I promise to change my profile photo to me in that hat. read more

They're quite busy during lunchtime, which is understandable because I definitely want to go back and try some more food from the hot line. It's pretty small in there, not THAT much seating. There is nothing better than a toasted muffaletta, and this one is fantastic!! The Hogs Head Grilled Cheese is also great. The wonderful flavor of the hogs head cheese is a bit lost among all the other ingredients stacked on the sandwich, but it is a really good sandwich. I would personally prefer plain (unseasoned) fries, but these are still good and perfectly crispy. Definitely need a return trip to try the rueben sandwich. My mouth is already watering for that. Moo over BR if you're looking for a good place for lunch or dinner like something your momma cooked then look no further than this place. I was doing a lunch pick up for my hubby and he said this place was recommended by a few of his patients. Of course me being new to the scene for this popping spot. I had no idea or clue as to what the flow was and yes my anxiety was through the roof. A new place I have never been to but I'm such a foodie I was down to try it out. When you first walk in it's loud and crowded which in my opinion means that it's good. I wasn't too sure if I needed to stand in line or go off to the side to place a to go order. There was no sign and so I stood in line but I was like I'm not eating here so I asked a local and she said I'm sure you can order here off to the side. When an employee came over to hand her, her order I asked if I could place a to go order here and he said hold on a little rude but I knew he was dealing with the busy lunch rush. I stood by the register to the side out of line and only because he said I'll get you give me a minute. Then he totally turned a blind eye and went back to serve the lunch line people. At this moment I had been there for 10 minutes and then I decided to get back in line after another 5-8 people came in. Once back in line he didn't even appear to be sorry for leaving me stranded by the side register. No apology was given but I had waited awhile so I didn't feel like starting a conversation about that issue and besides it was super loud and I wasn't about to yell then have the cops come out. I was starving and so was my husband. So since I waited so long I missed out on the green beans because the guy in front of me got the last of them. I didn't know it was the last of the green beans until I ordered my plate. I asked if I order here to go plates and the guy was like bothered by me asking. Hey I'm NEW !!! But I pressed on since it smelled so good in there. I was there on Wednesday for their special Steak Burger (by the way took an additional 20 mins to get once you order it) I ordered the braised pot roast and it comes with two sides. Like I said I didn't know that they ran out of green beans. So I asked for my sides being rice with gravy and green beans. The guy making my plate said in a rude voice where do you see green beans? I pointed to the tray in front of my order as that person got green beans. He then hit the hot trays that had broccoli and the new tray that came out was Brussel sprouts. I mean this caught me off guard as to what I wanted to replace the green beans. I was panicking and on the verge of crying. I quickly started to point to what ever was there and moved on with my next plate. Three plates later I still needed to pay. Once I got to the register to pay I was asked what I had and I drew a blank because of my experience in ordering. The guy at the register was also very rude almost to the point of rushing me as to what I had in the containers. I mean I think they need to maybe put codes on the containers. I also advised that I needed to place an order for their steak burger. He said it's going to take about 20-25 minutes and if I still wanted it. It felt like he wanted me to say no thanks but again this foodie needed to try it so I said that's fine. I will tell you this place was very popular for a lot of medical personnel. While I waited I saw they carry rubs or spices from Red Stick which is my go to. Also you can get fresh bread from a company called St. Bruno Bread Co.. While waiting I noticed that I didn't get a number stick but I figured that was for dine in only so I didn't even ask. The fresh meats looked amazing and there was a great selection and the price wasn't too bad either. From sirloin to t-bone to sausages it all looked good. Nice marbling on a few cuts and I could see myself enjoying it. As the lunch crowd died down slowly it became a lot quieter and felt more settled. I do think it's best to get there before 12 noon as it shares a parking lot with a few other businesses and the parking lot is small and super busy. Also I learned that it's best to call your to go order in advance so you don't wait over an hour to get your food. Also you can skip being completely confused as to where to place an order to go. After a good 15 minutes later after I paid a lady asked me what I was waiting for. I mean she saw me way before but ok. I said just a burger and I said I wasn't given a number but I have a receipt. She went over to the guy that took my payment and made a gesture. He then came over to me before delivering food to someone else and said they didn't give me a number because he didn't have any at the time. I was like ok - soon after my burger came out and I was asked again if I paid and I said yes do you want my receipt? The lady looked at me straight up and said it's ok I trust you. Well, I have been hearing a lot of good things about Iversteins but most I have heard is about their meats...I have heard words like fresh, well-cut, and the facility being super clean. The staff there has also had good reviews and the tables are kept super clean...After one group leaves, their table doesn't go more than 45 seconds without being super-cleaned for the next ...a kudo to the staff. Now to the cooked food. I went there yesterday with my Business Partner. Basically they had a special for a hamburger, fries and a drink, plus one for smoked chicken and fresh vegetables. If we had gotten the hamburger, I probably would not be writing this as a 2-star review, so we decided to get the smoked chicken and vegetable plate instead. Bad mistake. First of all the only smoked chicken you could get was a "small" leg/thigh quarter, a small bowl of whipped potatoes made from real potatoes with gravy, eleven green beans and a roll that was not warm but had been coated at baking time with honey (not bad if it was warm). I do not prefer dark meat at all, as according to two customer reviews that I have read on that subject, 71% prefer white meat quarters versus dark meat quarters. At least I am in the majority of something. Now I have actually never seen chicken being tough to get off the bones until yesterday. I even believe the chicken was "coolish" by the bones, so I left about 60% of the chicken to the dumpster divers in the area. Now the most ridiculous part of my lunch was their drinks. Self-service with being given an Iverstein's advertisement yellow plastic cup. I estimated that the cup held 10-12 ounces. I had to fill it back up 3 times due to the quantity of tea it held, the fact I was worried the chicken may not have been cooked long enough AND the fact that this drink cost us $5.00 each. The fact that the last time I ate lunch at Sullivan's Steak house, I believe I remembered getting an extremely good iced tea beverage in a real 16oz glass, refilled by their staff for $4.50. Now, some of you were wondering how much did this lunch special cost us at Iverstein's. My bill, since I paid for both of us ran us $42 before a TIP..... O.O !!!!! I was still hungry when we left, but had to go to Costco to get some things for the office. The very first thing I got was one of their 1/2 pound 100% full beef hotdogs plus all the coke products I wanted to drink for $1.50 + tax. And I was certainly glad I did. I understand that the two establishments and their food is supposed to be for different groups of people, but I was never so happy to eat that hotdog and drink that coke at Costco's. Full rating: Staff = Great Cleanliness = Really Good Butchered Meat Cabinets = presentations and frozen food availability looked great as well Cost of Lunch = Not worth the trip Quality of Lunch (at least yesterday) = NOT Recommended If you want authentic Butcher provided food cooked well and done correctly all the time, also a good environment, clean tables and bathrooms, and still have your shirt to wear when you finish paying, then I recommend Chris's Meats at the corner of Highland Road and Petroleum Drive. You may pay the same thing, but you will not worry about getting sick from not fully cooked chicken, you will get well-sized proportions, also be able to taste other things that they cook up and walk around and allow you to try their other menu offerings to have you come back and try them at another date. Butcher: I won't buy burger patties anywhere else. The steak burgers will blow you away. The flyin Hawaiian sausage is a staple in my house. Everything else is so fresh and has such great quality. You get what you pay for. Freezer: the hamburger soup is a family favorite. We're trying more soups soon. We also get the breakfast sausage. Lunch: they have a hot bar that changes daily with great homestyle southern entrees and sides. I go for the sandwich menu. I'm telling you, the Daisy Duke is one of the best sandwiches in Baton Rouge. You also can't beat $5 burgers on Wednesdays. Merch: they have cool hats and shirts. What a gem for Baton Rouge! While visiting on a business trip my husband and I stopped in for lunch. The restaurant is directly beside their butcher shop. I ordered their Smash burger combo, and my husband had the pot roast plate lunch. While we waited on our meals we perused their cold cabinets and discovered a really nice selection of premade meals, nice cuts of meat, and some delicious looking produce. The butcher counter was equally impressive and I had a chance to visit with the fellow working the counter about the variety of meats and even got to sample the bologna. The bologna was so good it really made me want a muffuletta for lunch then. Because we were traveling, I didn't get any of their take aways. Our food came out pretty quick and I was thoroughly impressed with my burger. The ground beef was delicious! The condiments and bread were all high quality, but the meat was the star of the show. My husband's pot roast on a bed of mashed potatoes was delicious and he ordered the banana pudding instead of a second veggie. His was really tasty, but...I think he was a little jealous of my burger and crispy fries. The cashier told me on Wednesday you can get the burger for $5, but it only comes with 1 patty. I was glad I opted for the normal 2 patty smash burger since I ended up sharing. The fries were seasoned well and perfectly cooked. Y'all.... Seriously, how have we just found out about this place. We stumbled into this place over the weekend and grabbed some choice New York strips to grill up on Sunday. They were the perfect cut and some of the best steaks we have had in a while. We found out that they were doing restaurant week. Do not miss out! The beef tartare was incredible! The wagyu steak and pork coppa steaks were to die for. The lime aioli sauce for the frites were... oh my gosh, so good! I asked for a little container of it to go home. lol. And the Lemon Posset! Was in town for a quick meeting and found this place with high reviews and my coworker and I decided to try it out. As you walk in you see the butcher counter and amazing aromas, cute market space as you move into the restaurant area. You order at the counter, everyone was nice and they give you a number to take to the table. I was semi-disappointed in the quantity of meat on our sandwiches for the price of the meal. I will say what was there was amazing, but it was lacking greatly in amount. I had a Ruben and there was barely 2 slices of pastrami on the sandwich and maybe 2-3 tablespoons of sauerkraut. Again taste was fantastic but when I order a Ruben I'm expecting more meat and kraut. My coworker has a pot roast po boy and again she said it tasted so good, and presented it looked like a lot of meat until you realized they piled it on one side and was nearly nothing on the other. She got a side of cabbage and bacon which was tasty. You do have to go to a station to get napkin dispenser and mustard and ketchup along with silverware. They only bring you the meal the rest is on you to get yourself. I got 6 lbs of beef spare ribs here! This was a very clean establishment, nice workers, and there are other things to see while you wait. They serve hot food here as well as cold ready made potato salads and things like that. I love me some Iverstine! I'm a frequent guest, there at least once a week to get my sausage and pork belly fix. The fresh green onion and fresh jalapeño sausages are THE BEST. The gumbo is probably one of the best I've ever had, not overly seasoned or salted but full of flavor from the delicious veggies and meat. The thickness of the liquid was between a bisque and a broth, perfect IMO. They have a great selection of local beer, a seafood fridge, and 3-4 hot sandwiches to choose from on a daily basis. BONUS? I used to get their meat at the farmers market, but love the new store that I don't have to wait until Saturday morning to go to. The products at the store are great. Besides a selection of fresh cut meat they carry house made sausage, jerky, meat sticks, pate and pickles. The serve lunch during the week and breakfast tacos on weekends. You can also find boudin dip, gumbo and chili in the freezer case. Iverstine also carry's a selection of local products. Beers, wine, cookbooks, honey, jelly, coffee, seafood, baked goods and sometimes produce. If you don't find what your looking for, ask at the counter. Popped in for a moment to check this locally owned biz out and was very impressed! Ended up buying some jerky for the husband's Valentine's Day gift basket, and he absolutely loved them! Unfortunately, we don't travel this way across BR too often, but if we did, we'd absolutely be regulars! May have to make a trek across town to hit them up more often.
