They have dessert and each meal comes with a corn muffin and tea. ONLY open weekdays from 11am to 2 pm. Very popular with the locals. That being said you will run into a crowd, DAILY. Well worth it! This place gunna kill me, y'all. Absolutely annihilated my vegetarian, low cholesterol diet. I should have known what I was getting into when every meal comes with a free sweet tea. Its a wonderful Baton Rouge food experience: all the delicious southern soul and none of the pomp and pretentiousness of the local places downtown or in mid city. Probably one of the top three cafes in the county imho. All of their food is absolutely amazing. Everyone treats you like family, and you almost feel like you're at your grandma's house for Sunday dinner. All puns and jokes aside, this place is as good as you will find anywhere in the country. One of the lesser known places in Baton Rouge. I've heard whispers for years about the "best fried chicken in Baton Rouge". Sure, it's a hassle to get to, but it actually isn't. Amazing food, great people, awesome vibes. Their catfish is perfectly crispy on the outside, yet still moist on the inside. I have been here about 3x and have never been disappointed by the food they serve. The have amazing sides and serve large portions for a reasonable price. This place is a hidden gem and I recommend everyone to eat here. Just be warned they are only open M-F 10am-2pm and can get quite full with the lunch rush. Quick note: don't go there too late because they run out of some food items for that day and it's packed during lunch hrs. Hours of business is not that long. Good serving size meals. Everyone else at my table was able to get their food in line, but I had to wait for mine, so they brought it to the table. It took long enough. I hit up on the stockyard for lunch today on a recommendation from a coworker. All I was told was "they got good beef", it is a stockyard after all. Upon pulling up I find it is indeed so. The smell of hot cow turd on a summer day was ever present. We walk in and it's not really what I expected. It's more of a plate lunch thing. Entree with three sides, and a drink is 9 bucks even. I get the meatloaf with rice and gravy, beet salad, and creamed spinach. It was all good. The place is a little slice of Americana, down home, hole in the wall kind of place. Wood paneling, dim lighting, frosted windows, and a sign that says "no cursing" the dining room looks more like a trailer park on steroids than fine restaurant. It is worth checking out for sure. If your into the off the beaten path, only the locals know about it kind of place you will dig it for sure. One other thing to note, it is cash only. read more
