I've been a patron of Anthony's Italian Deli for a long while. When I first discovered it, they were located in a tiny space out in the back of a commercial building on Florida Blvd. East. Now they are in a much better, but still cozy, space on Government Street. This facility has indoor dining space, patio dining space, and plenty of parking, including a back overflow lot. Anthony's has been in business so long due to authentic Italian cuisine, including a great variety of take out deli items. If you need some real Italian grocery items for your home, there's a good chance you can get them at Anthony's. However, if you would rather let them prepare your meal for you, that's an excellent option as well. I think they have a first rate muffuletta, and it's important to have the right bread and meats for those. This is something they have covered! Their Po-Boys are also my favorites. These are pressed so they are crispy and flattened. I typically like to get these with a small salad, which is indeed an excellent choice. If you have room, there's always some great dessert choices. Another consideration is picking up something to take home for later, I think a tub of high quality imported olives are a good selection. Don't forget their cheeses as well, these can lift your home cooking to a higher level. Next time you are in the Government Street Arts and Entertainment District, drop into Anthony's for a bite, dessert, or take home items. You'll definitely thank yourself later! read more

I haven't tried everything on the menu but have had the muffuletta (half makes 2 meals really and I tire of it by then so reminding myself to never get a whole unless sharing & not worth making at home because getting all the ingredients would be wasteful unless feeding a crowd. I have always enjoyed the meatball poboy .. but because I don't live close, I was inspired to find a good recipe and did!! Always have Italian meatballs in the freezer for quick meals, but when in the area and in the mood for Italian deli I'll be back for a lunch special. I'm in town for work and I came through here to get a to go plate for lunch. The restaurant itself has a lovely dining area filled with memorabilia showing the history of this beloved establishment. They have indoor and outdoor seating at comfortable, intimate tables. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. The menu is expansive with many delicious meals to choose from. I went with the large Italian salad and it was so fresh and tasty. The prices were fair. I will definitely come back to this spot! read more

Never disappoints. I don't come here very often but when I do, I'm probably gonna get a salad. Sure it's weird, but they happen to have really epic Italian salads. The muffuletta salad is jam packed with deli meats you find on a traditional muffuletta on a bed of lettuce with lots of olives and a lovely vinaigrette. The pasta salad is so amazing I can't believe I hadn't tried it sooner - a huge portion, lots of meat, cheese and olives, and the same Italian vinaigrette that comes on the muffuletta salad. I saw they have a special with a muffuletta and a small portion of pasta salad and that will definitely be my next order. Honorable mention is their seafood lasagna. When they have it - get it. White sauce, plenty shrimp, delicious. Counter service is always great, food comes out quick for lunch, and they have a nice little patio on the 3 days we can sit outside for lunch. See the image and you judge if it's worth it. They had their chairs up on the tables and were not at all accommodating even though I had plenty of time to eat before they closed. Never again. Right on Government street, it was so easy to find with plenty of parking around the buidling. Right when I walked it, I knew I was in the right place! The closet place to an Italian Deli that I have seen since moving to Baton Rouge. Such an authentic feel to it. I got The Godfather poboy and it was delicious and tasted so fresh. Ultimate go to lasagna. It is the absolute best lasagna I have ever had. And I actually lived in the city near Little Italy, for many many years and this lasagna blows all of their away. Anthony's is a gem of a place. After hitting New Orleans and seeing the Central Market has been destroyed and is no longer in business (for now), we were dying for Muffuletta. We were heading to one of our places to visit and along the route my daughter found Anthony's Deli listed as having incredible Muffuletta sandwiches. Well let me tell you something. THIS is the real deal and it rivals the Central Market. The proportion of meats to olive spread and the bread were incredible. The staff were fantastic and they have indoor and outdoor dining with a nice shaded patio. This is a fun little family deli. The sandwiches are delicious! They have some plates, Julie always gets the spaghetti and meatballs! They have take and bake dishes and you can buy deli meats and such. Everyone behind the counter greets you like family and there is outdoor dining if you would enjoy that also. My wife's friend told her this is the best mufaletta in town. The sign out front says so, too. And it IS really good. Different than others I've had. The bread is nice and toasty (appears to have been mashed in a press) and there is a bit of spicy red pepper in the olive salad. Gives it a nice kick. Not the thickest layer of meat you can get, but plenty enough to fill you up. (Can't speak to service and atmosphere except to say that drive through service during the coronavirus quarantine is quick and easy. This is a small quaint deli/restaurant . I've been meaning to stop by for awhile . I stopped and got the lasagna plate lunch to go it was $15 with tax . I was greeted when I walked in . They also sell deli products and products from Italy . I really wanted a muffuletta but they are huge which they offered half of one lol. I'll go back with my husband to try one . How is that possible? What kind of dark magic is this? I'll tell you how it works. Their food is such a delicacy, and loved in such a way, and balanced so incredibly flavor to flavor, that it actually invokes imagination. Food that causes you to day dream. Auditory and visual hallucinations. Usually you have to get ahold of some drugs for that kind of experience. This was our first stop at Anthony's Italian Deli. It has a very eclectic vibe with lots of it's history hanging on the walls. It's a family owned business, and we loved the feel. There appeared to be many regulars there, which I viewed as a good sign. Everyone seemed to be enjoying their food, and all looked good to me. We decided to split a muffuletta. First, it is absolutely HUGE. I could only eat about 1/4 of a total sandwich, and we had to bring some home. The taste is awesome, and the cheese was melted perfectly. The muffulettas here are the BEST in Louisiana. Sorry New Orleans, but we've tried them all and these are without question the best. No contest. Being from Southern Louisiana, we grew up eating these wonderful Italian sandwiches. These tangy olive, provolone, mortadella, ham, and salami 8" round warmed sandwiches. The bread is made from an old family recipe and cannot be matched. The lasagna is fabulous and the tiramisu is the perfect finish. Call ahead 15 minutes for pickup. The stand alone restaurant is usually busy. It's a regional favorite. Highly recommend this casual place for lunch or to grab muffulettas to tailgate before a big game, fishing, or picnics.
