I was hoping I could give more stars for this restaurant. After I was seated, I had to wait 10 minutes and still nobody came to serve us. I had to grab someone to get my order in. Until the time I left, I still did not know who was my server.. The food was not impressive. read more

The only conclusion I can draw is to open an all-day breakfast restaurant if you want to get rich. All these breakfast/brunch/all-day breakfast places are packed and yet they are nothing special. My first time at Cafe Landwer was not a disappointment, because I had no expectations, but I am surprised there was barely a table available at 11:00. They do have a patio, but it is undescript, next to two lanes of cars, a parking lot and looking out to a strip plaza. Moreover, the inside tables were all taken too. Open a breakfast restaurant to become rich! Upon entering I noticed a musky, almost acrid, reek in the place. They specialize in something called Shakshuka. I had a dip of my friend's and it was okay. I had an Egg Benedict and it was fine, I guess. Not much of a taste or much of a Benedict. The potatoes were bland and asking for mustard does not help. They do not carry any. The whole restaurant has no mustard. OK!! There are a number of irrelevant photographs designed to look family-oriented or vintage on the wall (once you have your brunch place up, put up a hundred random photos) and the service is good. The waitress was friendly, polite and smiling. Finally, cut out the astronomical tip suggestions on your machines. I am not paying 25% tip no matter what. I hit cancel on that and went down to a more appropriate percentage. I hate all these fake prices on the menus. Raise your prices to what you want and then pay your employees. Do not ask for stupid rates of tip. The way these things are going we will soon be asked for 105% tip, which would not be a surprise. After all, look at Air Canada's so-called taxes. read more

I had wanted to bring my other half to this cafe to check out on the weekend, but on a Sunday at brunch it was totally packed. Later in the week though, we happened to have the morning off and was able to try this place on a weekday with no line. Upon entering we were promptly greeted, and I cant think of the proper word but I found the interior decor quite "comfortable" with a very homey feeling. The menu was quite large with a variety of options to choose from, and a number of food combinations I dont usually see. We ended up getting a shashouk and the famous breakfast. Both came out quite quickly, and visually was impressive. Taste wise it was quite a diverse number of flavors that was very contrasting but complimentary. The only thing that I would want to mention is that this place is definitely "you get what you pay for", so I wouldnt really expect this place to have a lot of great deals, which is totally fine. I would totally recommend this place to anyone that wants to brunch, or meet up and catch up with an old friend due to its homey interior. read more

RESERVE A TABLE ON YELP BEFORE YOU LEAVE YOUR HOUSE!! Visited the Maple location on a Sunday morning for brunch, and it was packed! I'd highly recommend reserving because the wait is about 1 hr if you get there and put your name down. My friends and I didn't mind the wait as the food tasted better with our hunger lol! We all ordered shakshukas as my friend loves to make them and we wanted to see what makes theirs so special. It's the love they put in it for sure!! The star of the show was the focaccia. So delicious, everyone NEEDS to try it. I wish I had chosen it instead of my multigrain bread but next time I will! The shakshuka was textbook, sausage was perfectly cooked and the saltiness worked well with the heat and tartness of the base tomato sauce and eggs. I finished it very quickly. We also ordered a hummus plate with plant based protein, the soy strips was just alright. It had an odd texture and didn't really go with the hummus. It sat in a pile and was a little bit too much in our opinion. Maybe if it was chopped in thirds it would make more sense but we were kind of confused. The hummus was to die for though, so so delicious. I'll definitely be back to try more dishes and hopefully get the review up to 5 stars upon my return :) read more

We loved getting the Famous breakfast, as it has a little bit of everything to try. We were also blown away by the pancakes, small fluffy pancakes with a bunch of sides to dip. Their Landwer Shakshukas and Falafals Hummus bowls were simple and fresh. We've also tried the grilled sandwich, and the Jerusalem one was delicious, almost like a pizza in a d sandwich form. And of course a Turkish coffee must be ordered whenever I see it on a menu! The decor is unique both in a classic diner vibe but with a clean fresh take that perfectly encapsulates the 'unique but familiar' atmosphere of this restaurant. Cafe Landwer is the chosen one that somehow checks off all three boxes. This particular Cafe Landwer is in a quiet plaza in suburban Vaughan. Come 11am though, it's nothing but quiet as every seat in the house is filled with lines forming out the door. They specialize in Mediterranean food. This, in itself, is already quite special. They also do it really well. On top of that, they serve so many other things in an oddly familiar, international mix of a menu. Eggs Benedicts, with Schnitzel, with Kebabs, and a Nutella Latte? Why not? I've tried the Halloumi Shakshouka, Landwer's Famous Breakfast, Farmer's Breakfast, and the famous warm, gooey Chocolate Rosalach. I would order any of these in a heartbeat. They were all delicious and extremely filling. The most memorable for me would be the Famous Breakfast, a spread of little dishes filled with ingredients and spreads that you can eat with your loaf of bread. The handmade Focaccia in the Farmer's breakfast was also fantastic. Cafe Landwer is fast becoming my favourite brunch place. It's too good not to share. The quality has gone downhill. Ordered for pickup, like I've done many times before. Instead of the margarita pizza, they gave us the kids menu pizza. We ordered a tray of 5 schnitzels, when we opened it, it was clear they took 2 schnitzels and cut them into 5 pieces - the pieces were the same size as the lemon wedges. And they were super over cooked and dry, they were barely edible. The rice was also overcooked and clumpy and brown in areas (where it stuck to the pan). We tried calling them and have been waiting 30 min for someone to pick up (and they were pretty empty when we picked up our order). I have no issues with their rising prices but what they provided is terrible and they won't even answer their phones to address the issues. read more

Turkish Coffee 4/5 - never had a turkish coffee before and actually thought it would be more robust in flavour, but theirs was quite clean to the palate and lighter in taste than your typical arabica beans from your local coffee shop Mediterranean Shashuka 5/5 - great flavours, tomato forward but not overly sour - well seasoned, not salty, good amount of feta and eggplants - eggs cooked perfectly the way we asked - multigrain bread was delicious, fresh and soft, highly recommend with the dish Shawarma Hummus 4/5 - nice texture to hummus, overall good but a bit on the salty side for my liking - good amount of chicken shawarma and was relatively juicy overall with a few bits being drier (or if you let it sit and cool down it does get dry) - love the addition of the whole chickpeas for texture - side pita was nice and fluffy but did get harder as it sat, so eat it fresh! Overall great food and comfortable seating. Will love to come back again to have their pasta. Had it a while back (pre-pandemic) so would love to update my palate! read more

Loved the beef sausage shakshuka that came with a side salad, dips and some bread. We also ordered the chicken pesto parpadalle which was fresh and a good size portion. This place gets super packed for brunch but so worthy! My group of four came on Nov 11 at 10:30am and still had a wait time of 30 minutes. The waitlist was majority tables of twos. Definitely check the waitlist on yelp before going. Their coffee is well made and super delicious. I regret not getting large for another $0.50. The halva latte was unique and nutty. They're known for their shakusha and definitely didn't disappoint. The tomato sauce was well spiced and seasoned with great depth of flavors. The beef kebobs were wonderfully charred and full of flavour. Looking at other tables, all of their breads looked amazing. read more

I have been to this location a couple of times since one of my friends lives near this area. This spot has been on my list for places to check out. We put ourselves on the waiting list through Yelp since it was a party of 7 of us. After getting there, I didn't know what to order as all the items on the menu sounded delicious. Ultimately I decided on the Halloumi and Za'atar sandwich with a side of sweet potato fries and a black coffee. The sandwich was amazing. It was crunchy and all the ingredients in the sandwich tasted fresh. The sweet potato fries were crunchy and not soggy. For dessert we got the Rozalach-Nutella. Which was pastry balls with nutella in them. Tasted amazing and were made fresh when ordered. Can't wait until the next time we get to go and check this place out! read more

I used to the place for its amazing food and great customer service, but my recent visit with my 8 MO baby girl was a disaster. The food I must was mine blowing, we ordered: mushroom ravioli, chicken shawarma, Florentine potatoes, focaccia, coffee & dessert fondue. Everything we ordered was great except from fondue. The strawberries were rotten. I'm not reducing stars for the fruit but they spoiled my daughter's first visit to their restaurant. This is a pandemic time, but are not dining out much anyways, but if they are either they believe in supporting local businesses or they have something very special occasion. So we decided to take my girl to the restaurant. We got the patio place just after 30 mins of yelp waitlist facility. All good so far. We sat and requested high, they forgot twice, the. We ordered a regular coffee, the coffee came out cold ( well Luke warm, bot drinkable one) with cream in the side and they forgot sugar. Later when food came and we ate, I don't remember anyone checking on us, we kept waiting waiting waiting to order some more food, or a simple water refill. So we skipped the food and wanted to order dessert, now my hubby was already loosing his patience but then I insisted to stay and finally we called a passing by server and requested: 1. Water, 2. Dessert, 3. A take away box for leftover chicken. Forget about the coffee refills ( so many requests.. The servers were too busy, doin what that we don't know) And the brought us the box, what happened to our fondue no clue. After 20 mins of the order my hubby when inside and requested to cancel the order if it is nt ready yet, so after 10 mins of that a server came an said its almost ready and we are waiting for the chocolate, still another 10 mins it did not come so he went again and asked for the check and suddenly after 5 mins the fondue appears and is forced on us as if nothing happened and apologies or not even an acknowledgement of that we canceled or it got delayed or anything. I felt frustrated, no coffee, no water, no mannerisms and the fruits are rotten. And it made my 90 mins drive from Brampton ( north west) to vaughan a total waste. Plus the weekend was spoiled. Cafe Landwer is always a staple for me and my friends, there are just so many items to choose from, you can never order the same thing twice. I think the only negative for my experience is the wait time, unfortunately you are not able to reserve a table for brunch hours. Our waiter was pretty knowledgeable and pointed out the differences between my preferred items, and the takeout boxes are just so cute! While there's plenty of parking in the plaza, you may not find one immediately outside of the store - just drive a bit farther. I recommend getting their sweet potato fries, really hits the spot! This location is a bit far for me, I hope they build one in Markham :) read more

If you're planning to come on the weekends, try to make a reservation as they can pretty busy. Luckily the wait wasn't too long (around 30 mins) and we were able to walk around the plaza to pass some time. They offer patio and dine in option, although I wish all their patio seats had shade as some seats were opened right in the sun. The service was pleasant and the staff were very nice and understanding with us. I could say they were a also a reason why my experience here was so much better. We ordered the Merguez Shakshuka which was one of their signature dishes, and had a nice tomato taste behind it. We also ordered the mushroom hummus which was quite large. All of these dishes comes with their home made pita breads which accompanied both dishes very well (we had to get another!)' Overall, would we return? Yes! I came here a while ago (late in writing the review) and it was BUSY. On a weeknight. I heard from other people there are line ups for weekend brunch. I'm not sure why exactly...it's ok..but definitely not line up worthy at all. It's a big place with quirky decor...but it is LOUD AS FUCK in here. You will not be able to hear the person across the table from you. So just expect to do a lot of head nodding, pretending you heard what they are saying. I ordered the shakshuka and it was ok. A little salty...and a little thicker than what I've had at other places. It tasted like tinned tomatoes. The bread was hard and crusty..but not really in a good way. Overall, I doubt I will be back. Came here on a weekend for brunch and the 3 of us waited for approximately an hour before we got seats. This is my first time eating shakshouka, so I can't comment on the authenticity of the flavours. I ordered halloumi shakshouka, with soft poached egg. You can choose how cooked you want your eggs to be - soft, medium and hard. I chose soft because I know they serve the shakshouka in a cast iron pan and wanted to account for the residual heat. However, they don't actually heat / cook shakshouka in the cast iron pan. Hence I would suggest to order your eggs exactly how you like it. When my dish came, the egg actually looked quite well done. But when I poked into it, it was "soft". Personally, I find it too runny for my liking and would order medium next time. The shakshouka itself was not too memorable. But I do like the deep halloumi cheese. The batter was relatively thin and the cheese was not overly salty. One of my friend ordered the Mediterranean shakshouka, which has feta instead of halloumi. We came to a consensus that the halloumi cheese was better. The Mediterranean shakshouka taste very similar to the halloumi shakshouka. The latter had an addition of eggplant chunks and parsley. I would say the brunch is decent, but I don't know if it was worth the 1 hour wait. read more

It's a pretty long wait time so be prepared. Aesthetic wise; I think it's very picturesque and the decorations is a blend of vintage/modern design. The lighting is placed pretty well. I would say the visuals of the food are held to the same standard as the cafe with a pretty decent presentation. I would say however there is one consistent theme in the food which is that it's pretty bland. It was a common gripe shared by my group of friends where there was a lack of seasoning which felt at odds with how good the food looked. The drink we ordered tasted very diluted so the theme of blandness was a recurrence. It was my paetner'sbirthday so they did give us some pastrues so I thought that was sweet of them. Given how busy they were I also appreciate the kindness of the staff as they are probably overworked. However personally I don't think it was worth the wait. read more

Ohh my days! Came here for breakfast with a friend and had to wait about 40mins to get a table. We were able to kill time because it was in a busy plaza so we walked around until we got a text from the restaurant. I would definitely recommend this restaurant! Its been awhile since i've been but still remember the food tasting amazing. I'm officially a fan of mediterranean food! It's nice to have a sit down meal and don't feel like you're indulging but rather having a well balanced meal! Service was very slow around 11:40am. They only had 1 1/2 staff hosting, taking orders, serving, and cleaning the tables. I felt bad for the staff, I knew it was not her fault for slow service. But, after this dish my stomach felt cold. * Landwez's Famous Schnitzel with Fries: not much seasoning, typical fried pork, nothing special. * Cheesscake: very light comparing to other typical cheese cake, I guess they cut down on the cream cheese. * Sesame Hot Chocolate: very unique taste, not my type of drink. * Landwer's House Tea: very minty, but best of all. Our group had reservations for dinner midweek. So we got to bypass the herd of people squeezed together just inside the front door. I felt bad for them because the place was packed and the wait for a table was long. I don't know why it's so popular. There were other things that baffled me like the decor. There were lots of small vintage pictures on the wall with no indication of the relevance. The menu had such a mix of food choices, I'm not sure what the theme was (middle eastern? Italian? vegetarian?...). I ordered the eggplant and feta pizza. It was tasty but I had to rearrange the toppings. For example, some of the slices had lots of feta cheese while others had none. Clearly, the chef needs a lesson in food presentation. The service was average. They were slow to take our order and slow to respond to our requests for the bill. At least the orange slice in the water was a refreshing touch. The restaurant is very noisy so don't come here if you want to have a quiet conversation. Be prepared for a chaotic, crowded parking lot. Wear comfy shoes because you may have to walk quite a distance from the parking lot to the restaurant. read more
