Finally had a chance to try this little Japanese cafe. I wish yelp would allow half stars as this as this is really a 3.5 star rating. Overall the experience was nice. The cafe is modernly decorated and has about 10 tables. The staff were friendly, and the food was ok. My biggest complaint was that all of our food arrived at room temperature instead of nice and hot. From the takoyaki we ordered to our katsu omurice, none of the food was hot. For the katsu, you get a choice to order either the hayashi sauce or curry sauce. We both ordered the hayashi sauce but Im pretty sure they just gave us the curry sauce. Popped in around 6 pm on a Friday for our first visit, and at first it seemed like it was going to be a chill night - just one other table seated and two big tables reserved. But by the time we left an hour later, the place had completely filled up and there was even a line waiting for tables. Definitely a surprise. My biggest dislike about our meal was actually the volume of noise. I felt like I had to yell across the table to talk to my company seated with me. The vibe reminds me a lot of Chillax, especially with the aesthetic and pricing. That said, the portions here are a bit smaller. Still, the menu is super unique, which I really liked. It's not the usual fare, and that made choosing kind of fun. Ordering was super simple with the QR code at the table. The staff mostly focused on bringing water, food, and clearing plates. Some of them seemed a bit awkward, but nothing too major. Even payment is self-serve as you just walk up to the register. Heads up, there's a 5% discount if you pay with cash, which is a nice little bonus. My favorite dishes tonight were the daily special (Creamy Miso Udon) and the Matcha Lava Cake. The udon was rich and flavorful, though I wish it had more protein in it. Still, it was a nice touch that they give you white rice to mix with the leftover sauce. The matcha lava cake was sweeter than I expected but absolutely delicious. I'd definitely get it again, even if it's a bit on the pricey side. I recently visited this place in its soft opening phase. The restaurant is spacious and you order by QR code. We tried their caramel hojicha and regular lattes and were all good. The Omurice was not gooey as the egg did not spread but nevertheless it was tasty with a side of their special curry sauce. It's a good place to chill with friends with free wifi. Recently discovered this (relatively) new restaurant for Japanese omurice, udon, & soufflé pancakes in Richmond Hill, and I'm already looking forward to my next visit! I've never had omurice before, but watching the creamy omelette open and slowly cover the rice as I made that first slice -- what a mouthwatering sight! The chicken katsu was delicious as well! Perhaps not the best katsu I've ever had, but it was crispy and not overly battered. I opted for the curry sauce, while my friend got the hayashi (savoury beef/mushroom) sauce. We preferred the curry - it paired better with the chicken katsu and omelette. Also tried their promotional special: the sake ochazuke. I've seen something similar in vlogs before - it's a lighter dish that combines a super crispy rice ball, furikake, salmon (cooked perfectly) with a light savoury sauce. The idea is that you taste the dish first, then pour the green tea over the rice & salmon, allowing the tea flavour to seep into the rice & salmon. Don't skip their desserts either! The soufflé pancakes were so soft & airy like a Japanese cheese, and they paired so well with the citrusy syrup. My favourite was the Shiratama parfait - rich matcha ice cream paired with red bean, mochi, a wafer roll, & corn flakes (the crunchy texture worked SO well!). They have an extensive menu serving appetisers, salads and sando (sandwich), omurice (rice in omelette), udons, desserts and drinks. Foods served are quite authentic, fresh and in good portion size. We had tonkatsu omurice, teriyaki chicken don, takoyaki, the takoyaki was mainly filled with rice flour and a small piece of octopus and it was so so. I visited Cafe Kenkaku with some friends and we tried the Katsu Omurice and the Original Soufflé Pancakes. Unfortunately, both dishes were a bit underwhelming. We came specifically because we'd heard their omurice was a specialty, but we were quite sad. The rice lacked flavor--it was missing the expected ketchup base and the omurice itself was also not as runny as we hope, as we expected it to pour over but unfortunately it didn't drape over the rice. The Hayashi sauce that accompanied the omurice was good, thoughts --savory and not too salty. Additionally, while the waiter mentioned that the soufflé pancakes would take some time, we didn't expect to wait almost an hour. We ordered around 2:30, and the pancakes didn't arrive until 3:35. That said, the pancakes were light, fluffy, and not overly sweet, but the long wait was a bit much. Be patient when you come here. They're still in their soft opening phase, but unnecessarily disorganized. My fiancée and I were told 20 minutes wait for a 2-person table, but it ended being 60 minutes. Most frustrating, their tables are designed to be split. However, we were passed over for three tables of 4 who came in after us. Very confused why they didn't split the table into two 2s to accommodate for people already in queue. Some people came in with reservations, but there's no mention of a reservation system anywhere. Slightly unprofessional but again, soft-opening so I'm hoping they get better. The menu is split into 4 key components: Sando, Omurice, Udon, Apps. Relatively slim, but hopefully that means the food is fresh - right? For food, we ordered the Tori Katsu Omurice and the Katsu Curry Udon. A big letdown with the omurice since they use bland white rice instead of your traditional fried rice, but I guess that's my fault for not looking at the picture. Some points for not misleading you with images I suppose. The egg itself felt overdone, which was evident when a quick slit didn't rupture the egg pocket and coat the rice. The chicken katsu was fried pretty well, so again points for that. The curry udon was extremely mid. Despite being their 'signature curry', it tasted like an off-the-shelf curry pack - although this one tasted extremely diluted. It just needed...salt. The pork katsu didn't look freshly fried (no golden brown appeal), and again needed seasoning. Oh, did I also mention the dish came out lukewarm at best? Even the butter didn't melt. For drinks, we got the Hazelnut Latte and the Hojicha Latte. Nothing special with the former, but the latter was bland. The colour would suggest a strong hojicha flavour, but honestly it just tasted of milk. Disappointing again. Kitchen pacing was also quite slow, despite the slim menu. The entire experience probably took 2 hours from arrival-departure. Maybe it's a soft-opening issue that'll get resolved overtime, but lots of kinks that'll deter us from coming back in the near term. read more

Finally a decent katsu omurice in Toronto! The omurice was cooked to perfection and the egg was still runny inside. The chicken katsu was very juicy too! You get to pick curry or hayashi sauce. We picked hayashi and it paired well with the chicken. Personally, I liked the pork loin katsu more. The dashi udon soup was very comforting for such cold weather. Most of the dishes came with a yuzu dressing salad, which made it extra refreshing. The hojicha latte was very creamy. The tofu was a bit chewy, but the corn croquette was very filling. We were looking for something new to try out for Sunday lunch. This cafe was close by. We decided to give it a try. The omirice pics looked delicious in the reviews. So we order 2 of them, one with chicken cutlet with the signature curry sauce, the other with pork chop cutlet with the Hayashi sauce and the Japanese style carbonara. The carbonara was delicious, you had bacon bits with and egg on udon. The portions are on the small size considering what you are paying for a dish as its mainly carbs. It felt the value wasn't there. Unfortunately, they are not able to give the runny type omirice eggs due to food regulations. Overall, the dish was good! The cutlets were crispy, the sauces made the dishes more tasty, without it would be a little disappointing. I had to ask for more sauce, as it wasn't enough to finish off the dish (extra cost). Price's are average. It's something new to try because I haven't been able to find a place the sells omirice anymore. The restaurant was busy, so they had to move us into smaller tables and apologize to us with free ice cream, which was a very nice gesture. There was nothing special about the dish except for the tornado egg, which instead of tasting beautifully creamy and silky, honestly tasted just like a normally cooked fried egg. The chicken pieces had way too much fat left on, and it tasted a bit off to me, though maybe it was the sauce. I also got a Sakura Litchee Soda, and that was comparatively delicious, would recommend. This new cafe spot is such a gem - so glad they opened in Richmond Hill! The restaurant is larger than it looks from the outside, and has a very bright and welcoming interior design with a cute mural on the wall with its name. We ordered the wings, popeye's carbonara, katsu omurice with hayashi sauce, and a hojicha latte, and everything was so so delicious! The wings were nicely breaded and super crispy. I went in to put my name down but none of the young staff acknowledged me (or wanted to acknowledge me) at the door. From what I saw, the staff were a little lost and needed guidance from the manager at the counter. I had to stop one of the staff for a table but was given a wishy-washy answer. I was then told by one of the customers in line that I needed to go to the front counter. Finally I left my number and name to the manager and waited for about 15 mins in the car until our table was ready. The 3 of us were first seated at the 2-persons table by the door but manager kindly offered to move us to a more comfortable 4-persons table when it became available. We ordered the pork Katsu Omurice and a carbonara udon to share between us (2 adults and a child). While the Omurice was cooked to perfection, the pork Katsu was smaller than expected. The carbonara tasted great and very saucy but the portion was way too small. I felt that I was barely half full after sharing it with my toddler. Luckily we also ordered the chocolate soufflé pancakes as dessert. The soufflé was ordered at the same time as the entrees and was ready by the time we finished. Came here on a Sunday afternoon at 3pm for some snack. It was pretty empty since we didn't come at a busy time. There were plenty of tables and they were still doing soft opening. We ordered the Corny Croquette, Tokyo Fries, Avocado Tamago Sando, and Iced Hojicha Latte. The food was a little disappointing. The fries were definitely something I could make at home - get a bag of Cavendish fries and just add some mayo and takoyaki sauce with bonito flakes on top and that was pretty much it. The sando didn't taste like authentic Japanese sando and felt like I was dining at some Hong Kong cafe and eating those typical egg sandwich but just with avocado added. The croquette was probably the best already out of the three food items we ordered but there was nothing particularly special or outstanding about it. The Hojicha latte was pretty good though. Given that they're still doing soft opening and I noticed the owner(?) was talking to staff members about improvements based on customers' feedback and google reviews, I might come back to try again, especially the main dishes since I didn't order any of that.
