We've passed the place many times, always saying we've got to try it, one of these days. Well, today was the day. We've dined at the one on route 9 in Fishkill. That place is Mexican Yucatecan cuisine; it is a very spicy cuisine. After staying a while in Merida, Mexico i found out about Yucatecan food. It will make you sweat! We thought this place would be the same. Yes, Mexico has regional cuisines all are a little different but, most are corn based. The enchilada mayopan looked interesting. I tried that. It comes with refried beans, rice, a little guacamole and sour cream and an unusual yellow cheese sauce on top of two wheat tortillas, your choice of grilled chicken or steak. Maybe, because the place just opener up for the day the refried beans were a little thin, the rice was fine. Overall it wasn't what I expected. It wasn't bad, it seemed more for north of the border diners. The decor is pretty nice, there's intimate booths, a full bar, the usual margaritas. *tip: have it made with the house tequila; save the top shelf tequilas for savoring straight. The other ingredients will mask the aromas and flavors. There's plenty of parking. As far as "gender neutral restrooms"; while I was there a woman used the Mens room because the ladies room was occupied. I've noticed that a lot up here.

By far one of the best Mexican restaurants in the Hudson Valley; definitely a local favorite! As you settle in, each dining experience is started off with a freshly made batch of tortilla chips and salsa and they are never stingy if you want more. My go-to is the Mexico City Style Tacos with steak and let's not forget the refried beans and rice...delish. Also, if you're a self proclaimed hot sauce aficionado like myself, I recommend trying the house made hot sauce that is served in a corona bottle. It lives up to the hype. The shrimp quesadillas are a win also. Flavorful, but how could it not be with cotija cheese and guacamole? The portions are more than fare. Most options paired with rice and beans or a salad.

Delicious food and great service at this homey, fun mexican spot. Indoor and outdoor seating. Started off with the tostones ($9) and we dipped them in the salsa. They were fried crispy and hot. For entrees, Pete got a burrito and the baby got a burrito kids meal ($9) which was a small chicken and cheese burrito (more like a quesadilla), rice and beans. For my entree, I got a chicken tortilla soup. The bowl ($9) was large and it was served perfectly hot! It had a ton of delicious avocado in it and broth was fantastic. It was all dark meat chicken, which I don't care for, but that's no knock at the soup. They serve dessert but we were too full. Delicious meal and we will surely be back when we're in the area. Pro Tip: don't fill up on chips. The food is sooo delicious!

After last nights dinner disaster at Yobo, my wife and I decided to try a different genre of food. Cafe Maya did not disappoint. The food was delicious, service was great, and the atmosphere was pleasant. I've been to their other location and enjoyed myself there as well. My tacos were very tasty and my wife's steak was super tender. I think she enjoyed my cilantro rice the most, couldn't stop talking about it. Highly recommended, will be back for more.

ADVISED THE SERVER THAT I HAVE AN ALLERGy to onions and garlic . I asked what he can make. His recommendation was chicken or steak quesadilla. Ok. Pricey at $13.95plus tax ($15.08) but ok. 30% tip. THEY TOOK MY CREDIT CARD Payment ( added a generous 30% tip) few minutes later, the bag arrived. He told me that the order comes with chips and salsa ( which explains the exorbitant price) and unapologetically adds that "the salsa has onions, but maybe you can give it to someone else. " DID HE NOT HEAR ME THAT I HAVE AN ALLERGY!? I opened it up to grab a peak and a nibble of the quesadilla. YIKES- my mouth immediately tasted odd, so I took a look- raw onions on the sliced avocado AND some kind of garlic on the chicken AND RAW ONION in the quesadilla. ARE THEY KIDDING? I've worked in kitchens for decades as a server and in the hospitality industry. THERE IS NO EXCUSE for this. I was his only customer. His sole responsibility is to make sure the guest gets what they ordered. He failed me. I flagged him down and pointed out the onions. He took the food to the kitchen and returned wit a lame excuse. Asked me if I wanted something else. REALLY? Why would I trust them? I politely but firmly explained that it is unacceptable to use the same knife to cut onions and then the meat. ( LAZINESS and a lack of care for the customer). I'll take a refund. GUESS WHAT HE DID? He refunded the meal but not the tip. Clever and totally bold. I called him out on it. He gets the 30% tip and I get a BAD TASTE IN MY MOUTH. I always feel bad when a long standing restaurant rides a formerly good reputation into the ground. NO MAS. HORRIBLE!

Ok so this is the spot for low key, awesome and delicious Mexican eats. And once again, forever and always, I will preach about how amazing the salsa is. I COULD DRINK IT! If they sold it in gallons, in drums.. I would buy it. I would bring it with me everywhere. I would write poetry about it. I might even marry it if i believed in marriage. Other than that.. well the food is tight too and my fav is the taco salad but I sub the meat for shrimp and its fiiiirrreeee

When I was told Poughkeepsie has good Mexican food, I was surprised and knew I couldn't leave without trying some. On a Thursday afternoon, Cafe Maya was fairly empty and I opted for a seat on their spacious patio. I liked how the inside and outside were almost one in the same since they had the windows open... The inside is so bright and colorful, it provided a really nice ambiance! Cafe Maya has an extensive menu, including one page with super affordable lunch specials! It was dizzying but in the end, I landed on the carnitas tacos, served with rice and beans. Chips and a chunky, mild salsa come complimentary, and I devoured the basket while I waited for my food. The tacos did come rather quickly and ready to eat! What can I say? These were some dang good tacos! The proportion of meat per taco was ample. The flavorful juices of the carnitas poured out of the tortilla when I picked it up, but the tortilla was strong enough to withstand it all. I really enjoyed the rice and beans, as well. I'm not much of a rice gal but I could barely stop eating it. Besides that, service was friendly and attentive, while parking was a breeze with the lot out front and to the side. I could definitely see this being a fun spot for a group dinner, or just a casual meet up between friends. Affordable and delicious Mexican eats? Can't beat it in my book!

We haven't been to Maya in ages and this place is truly tried and true. The food is always delicious and we've never had a bad service experience here, the waitstaff are overall incredibly warm and the food comes out fast. There's tons of Mexican restaurants in the neighborhood and we enjoy frequenting them all, however I must say Maya's salsa is truly the best. We had the guacamole recently and it was the first time we haven't had to add salt to the guac, it was seasoned perfectly, great balance of lime, cilantro etc. Some favorite food items include Burrito Maya, any of their enchiladas or chimichangas, fajitas, and the shrimp quesadilla! We went for lunch recently and saw a bunch of lunch specials that aren't on the regular menu. I tried this "mariachi" special, it was sort of like a burrito of braised pork but instead of the other fixings it was covered with tomatillo and pickled onions. I added cotija to it and it was delicious! It's nice they think outside the box with some of their dishes. The vibe is very fun inside of Maya, it's bursting with colors and has the feel of your typical great Mexican restaurant. Only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because I feel they're a bit on the pricey side for what you're getting, however I have zero other complaints and look forward to dining there again soon!

We visited Cafe Maya after a few folks told us about this place. We went last month on a quiet weekday and had a good time. The decor: I really loved the decor! The restaurant is spacious and colorful; there is a lot to see and a lot to ask questions about. Didn't get a chance to visit the restrooms so I can't talk about them (maybe next time). The menu: There is a dedicated vegetarian section in the menu (but even if there wasn't, its a Mexican restaurant and you can always get something modified). The meals: We were served chops and salsa upon arrival. We realllllyyy enjoyed it and were happy they kept bringing more to our table as fast as we finished it! The chips were thin and warm, and the salsa was oh so delicioso! For our meals we ordered the Platano Macho (with Maduros) for the appetizer, and the Black Bean Burrito without Sour Cream, and the Verano Quesadilla without cheese and shrimp. Although I enjoyed my burrito (it was good), my husband's quesadilla was not filling enough and he didn't feel satisfied by his meal. Despite this, there were more pros than cons and we are still planning to return to try some other dishes.

We received an email, that they would be doing a soft opening November 1st. We were really looking forward to a Spanish meal! When we arrived, the place was packed! Usually, a positive sign. Apparently, we weren't the only ones, that received the E-mail. We let the bartender know that we had a reservation, the answer was pretty much; see if you can find a seat. First off - they should change the name from Flores Tapas to Flores - burger and taco shack. Based on the "new" menu. It's very sad - because it's neither "fish nor fowl". Is it Mexican street food or a burger joint? It takes forever for the food to come out of a totally confused kitchen and even though there are numbers on the table, they don't know where to bring it. It's the fault of the "21st century"ordering system they are employing. IT is totally "Fakakta"!! Theoretically, the order goes from your phone to the kitchen, where they process it and prepare your food, then the runner brings it to your table. The reality is disappointingly different. You're better off, sitting at the bar; getting blitzed and watching TV. The fast food gets there sooner! You can do that at home and not have to worry about driving home drunk. Sadly, they spent a small fortune on theme glasses, seat back covers that look like Santa's hat, and specialty merchandise. See photos. I have a feeling, that a lot of the people that were there tonight. Sitting around at the tables, waiting for their food, that took over an hour to arrive won't be back! Especially a lot of the senior citizens or anyone over 30 years old that wondered what was going on? It was suggested; that as a Tapas restaurant they couldn't survive. Wappingers isn't ready for them. However, there are dozens of Mexican taco places within a few miles and burger joints to choose from. Let's hope they fair well.

The chorizo was pretty standard for LA, nothing too exciting, but spicy and pretty goddamn epic for this side of the country. The salsa roja was smokey, spicy and delicious. Damn. I'm still thinking about these tacos. For me, they lack some crucial elements: no carne asada, no al pastor and no radishes served with the tacos. But they serve lengua. And have awesome salsa. And it's authentic, which means a lot to me for tacos in upstate New York. So yeah, if I lived near here I'd become a fat mess REAL quick because these tacos can complete with LA. Seriously.
