I ordered the Wafu Carbonara after seeing decent reviews on Yelp, with the only critique being that the dish could be a bit dry. Hoping to get ahead of it, I requested the kitchen make it "more saucy." That was a huge mistake. Instead of actual sauce, it tasted like they literally just dumped water into the dish to thin it out. What arrived was a bland, watery, and completely tasteless mess. It was so flavorless that I had to aggressively add my own salt and pepper just to make it palatable. The photo speaks volumes--it was completely ruined. The service was cold and entirely hands-off. Our waitress took our order and then performed a total disappearing act. She never checked back in on us to see how the food was, and we literally never saw her again for the rest of our meal. The Verdict Between a ruined $22.50 plate of pasta and non-existent service, this place is a hard pass. Will not be returning for brunch. read more

Came here for brunch for a girls day out and what a little gem! We came on a Thursday afternoon and it wasn't busy so I can't say how busy it gets on the weekends. I ordered their chicken kaarage with mochi waffles. The chicken was fried with a light batter. Crispy on the outside and the meat (chicken thigh) was moist and juicy. The waffles were crispy and chewy and stretchy with a hint of sweetness. The yuzu sauce was refreshing paired well with chicken.The dish came with a side of salad which helped balance out the heaviness of the fried chicken and mochi. We also ordered their pistachio souflle pancake and it was delectable. It was light, airy and fluffy. The pistachio sauce was creamy, nutty and aromatic without being too sweet. I also liked how it came with fruits on the side. I also ordered their hojicha latte, which was one of the best ones I've had. It was smooth, creamy, and had just the right amount of tea flavor. The milk foam had the perfect velvety texture and it came with a pretty latte art. Overall, I really enjoyed the brunch they offer here. It is a pretty simple cafe, so don't expect it to be all decked out because it's not those instagramable cafes. But the food were solid and it's a great option for a small group brunch as they don't have many tables and they don't have large tables at all (the best is to 4 people or less). Staff is very limited but it could be because we went on a Thursday and it wasn't busy. My first time visiting the woodbine location after having good experience at the Finch location and it delivered. There's free parking in the small plaza right next to electric piggy. We ordered using the App from the QR code and the food and drinks came after a short wait. The chicken karage was friendly fried, crispy yet juicy on the inside. The mochi waffles were perfectly done and although we were full we had to try the jiggly pistachio soufflé pancakes which were light, fluffy and not too sweet. It's a great space for conversations or to work from with comfortable seating and space. The only downside are the drinks being served in paper cups instead of reusable cups. Cafe N One in Markham is a cozy little café with Japanese-style treats. I tried the sautéed mushroom grilled cheese on Japanese toast. It was fresh and tasty, with a crispy outside and soft inside. I also had a hojicha latte (roasted green tea). I ordered it with oat milk and no sugar, and it tasted smooth and comforting. The best part was the matcha red bean soufflé pancake. Very nice cozy cafe conveniently located at Woodbine & Highway 7 intersections, this cafe is operated by Hongkongers but it serves some Japanese-styled pasta, soufflé pancake and coffee, it's similar to Pokka Cafe in HK. This is a place for casual chat and meal with friends. We've ordered pasta, soufflé pancake, flat white coffee and cappuccino. The foods were delicious; the al dente spaghetti was cooked just right with delicious bacon pieces. As for the soufflé pancakes, it was warm, soft and fluffy with fresh whipped cream and some fruits, it was eggy and not overly sweet. Located at a random plaza on woodbine that I never really noticed before (considering im located in markham). I walked in on a weekend and it was full - the first waiter told me it would be a 10 min wait and then the next person right after told me it would be an hour wait... lots of confusion in terms of seating arrangements. In the end, we waited about 15-20 mins. Small restaurant and suggest making reservations on the weekends to ensure you get a spot. The wafu carbonara was really delicious and flavorful - highly recommend. The karaage moffles was mediocre- the chicken was delicious however the waffle wasnt as great - she cousin felt that the waffle was a little stale. Ambiance is fine but the place is really small and felt cramped. And also very very noise inside due to small space with the a lot of people. The noise level made me have a headache. The food was absolutely delicious -- the main dish came with garlic bread and a side salad. The beef was super soft and tender. The overall dish wasn't overly flavourful and wasn't bland, just the perfect amount. However I do think it's more expensive than I thought. As for the chicken karaage, it was so fresh and crispy, adding the extra lemon flavour made it even tastier. The portion sizes of both were great and I keep coming back for more! It's a relatively small cafe with few seating. I can imagine it would be difficult to find seating during peak hours based on how busier it got later on. Overall, I had an average experience at Cafe N One. It's nice that this cafe offers a lot of savory lunch-y items this early in the morning. But I only ordered the sautéed mushroom grilled cheese. I thought the grilled cheese was bland and the mushrooms could use a bit more seasoning. The salad was light, fresh, and had the perfect amount of dressing. The avocado smoothie tasted too milky for my preference, but I appreciate that real avocados were used. Service was good. Very nice and professional. Overall, I thought my experience was average. Had seen this place a while back and totally forgot about it until we dropped by Electric Piggy next door and saw the fluffy pancakes. Spoiler, we got the fluffy pancakes. It's an order with QR code kinda store with pay at the front counter, so service was minimal. Matcha fluffy pancakes - Pancakes were tall! It takes some skill to make em like that. Been here couple of times! They have a pretty big selection from pastas to, waffles, pancakes, eggs Benedicts and more. I really like their drinks. I think they're pretty creative with their drink menu. I really like their tiramisu espresso and strawberry matcha. Their caffeine drinks are on the stronger side which I really enjoy. I recommend getting a pasta (my favorite is the carbonara pasta) or salmon croissant. I would skip the chicken and waffles here though as the chicken is pretty small. The cafe isn't super big and has probably less than 10 tables so can get really busy on the weekend. I definitely recommend booking or calling ahead to avoid the wait. Parking can be a bit busy in this small strip mall. It's a family owned restaurant so it's a bit more cozy but the menu is quite diverse. The portions are a bit smaller for some of the selections but they all taste great which makes you wish you had more. The service can be a little bit more hospitable but it's usually busy hence the rushed attitude. The menu you order via QR code to your table. The parking lot is very small - I can imagine it might be difficult to find parking during the busy hours. I ordered the bacon and cheese waffle for my preschooler. She enjoyed the bacon waffle, but it seemed like the bacon and cheese ingredients were only in the centre (corner of the smaller pieces) of the waffle and not throughout. She didn't like the salad, which I ended up eating and enjoyed. My husband had the karaage moffle, he gave most of the chicken karaage to our daughter and she really liked it. The brussels sprouts was cooked in the bacon grease and was very aromatic, but quite oily and too salty for me. I wanted to try their souffle, however the menu indicated a 30min wait for them. I also upgraded the main dish with a coffee, which was overall good. I'm not a brunch person - but this place was a good little tuck in the corner hidden gem. Our friend had recommended we try Cafe N One and we're glad to have made it! We were looking for lunch and think this would be a great brunch place too. It's a small restaurant with a few tables and we ended up taking the window ledge seating. It was quite busy on a weekday around 12:15pm. We ordered the wafu carbonara, chicken katsu sando, and matcha soufflé pancake. Their house salad was very fresh with a nice light dressing that wasn't too sour nor too sweet. We really liked the al dente texture of the spaghetti noodles in the wafu carbonara. The sauce wasn't too heavy like some other carbonaras out there. We also shared the sandwich (sando) and the flavors went really well together. The chicken was lightly breaded and fried and there was just the right about of sauce so that it didn't squirt everywhere when you bit into it. It is definitely not your average North American sandwich in size though so you'll need to consider that when ordering. For dessert, the soufflé pancake was cooked perfectly and had just the right amount of sweetness. We poured the matcha sauce on ourselves and I feel like the sauce could be a bit stronger in matcha flavor since I tasted more of the pancake than the matcha. I loved their hojicha latte! Couple of friends and I were looking for a new brunch spot and we had some recommendations to go try this out. I'm a huge fan of Asian fusion and that's exactly what this resto does. My friends and I split all these dishes so we could try them all. The karaage moffle has a mochi waffle that was really soft and moist and the karaage was crispy and juicy. Wafu Carbonara was bursting with flavour and a really big portion. With that being said I think my favourite was the Pork Belly Croissant. I almost cried when I got to the last bite. The menu is the perfect size, a lot of options but not daunting. Matcha latte was pretty good as well. Atmosphere - 4.5/5 It's a really cool environment, kind of a Japanese café vibe. One of those places that works really well whether you're going with one person or a group of friends. Very comfy environment. Service - 4/5 The service was a little slow. They were really busy that day and understaffed so I don't want to harp on that too much. They were really nice and open to suggesting recommendations. I really like chicken and waffles and was looking for a brunch spot around the area and came across this place. The place is fairly small and they do takeaways for drinks as well. It was pretty packed and all the tables were taken but we got a spot right away. We got the karaage moffle which comes with spicy mayo and sumiso syrup, and the pork belly croissant. Also grabbed the iced matcha and coffee. 1) Karaage moffle Really enjoyed the chicken, it had good flavour and I like how even though they were bite sized, it had a good meat to batter ratio. The moffle was decent too, I didn't expect too much from it but adding eating it with the syrup made it better. I did like the texture of the mochi though. 4.5/5 2) Pork belly croissant I didn't think the croissant was anything special. The pork belly flavour was good on its own and the potatoes were nice and crispy. I first saw Cafe N One on Ritual and immediately bookmarked it. Recently, I saw a number of BOGO deals on Uber Eats from this eatery and placed my first order last Wednesday. Cafe N One is a Japanese eatery that puts a western spin on its menu items. It's cool. I ordered the following items: - Wafu carbonara with garlic toast - Strawberry panna cotta (BOGO) I was running my usual errands on a Wednesday night. I placed my order in Whitchurch-Stouffville, and it was ready five minutes before I got to this eatery. I was heading southbound on Woodbine Avenue. It was easy for me to make a right turn into the small plaza. Parking is limited. I did manage to get a parking spot at nearly 7 pm. However, if parking is full, Perth Avenue is steps away where you can park. I can't see any issue parking there, except after 2 am when you can't park in Markham on any street. Then again, this eatery isn't open that late, so you'll be fine! I walked in. There were a few people dining in, separated by plexiglass. I stood at the counter and admired the plain panna cotta desserts in the display case. A friendly, energetic woman greeted me. She knew my name as soon as I confirmed that I had a pickup order. She asked whether I needed any cutlery. I said yes. She carefully packed everything in my sturdy paper bag. We wished each other a pleasant evening and I headed out the door to my car. I had my food when I got home. I had one strawberry panna cotta that evening and had the other one as an afternoon pick-me-up snack the following day. My meal came with a side house salad with a soy-based vinaigrette. I enjoyed it. The lettuce and carrots were crisp and fresh. The vinaigrette was incredible. So good! I love carbonara. I don't have it often. When I do, I feel fancy. I was looking forward to the wafu carbonara. It came with an onsen egg, which was packed separately from the carbonara. This dish had thick-cut smoked bacon, garlic, onion, ponzu, parmigiana reggiano, nori seasoning, spaghetti, onsen egg, and a garlic bread. I had a fun time placing the egg on top of my pasta, slicing through the yoke (I understand egg porn with my first yoke video... haha), and mixing it with the pasta. I loved the wafu carbonara. The flavours were so amazing. The bacon was smoky, but so different with a thicker cut. The spaghetti was al dente and perfect. The garlic and ponzu were subtle, but you knew that they were there. The garlic bread was on thick bread. The garlic flavour was subtle, but it worked out well with the carbonara and bacon flavours. This dish was $20. It's not excessively expensive. It's not cheap if you're looking for a deal. I'd get it again. I had my strawberry panna cotta next. One typically goes for $9.95 here. It is large compared to what you'd expect to get in a restaurant, so the price is right. I'd say that it's better to have it at the restaurant than transport it home if you are going for a preserved, pretty look. Both of mine looked like Frosty the Snowman had a meltdown! It makes me laugh thinking about it, but the melted snowman look doesn't affect how yummy this dessert was. The strawberry flavour was perfect. You got a lot of strawberry puree with the panna cotta. I liked the blueberries and mint. The panna cotta was dense, but smooth. I enjoyed it. It was a refreshing, yummy dessert. I had the other one the following afternoon. It holds well. It also kept me going till I was ready to have dinner that day. I was tempted to get the passion fruit soda. I am such a fan of bubbly beverages. I'll need to get it next time. Emily L recently got takeout from here and the photos looked fantastic. Cafe N One is in a tiny strip mall on the northwest side of Woodbine and Yorktech (opposite corner of where the Costco is). We got there early so there were plenty of parking spots to choose from but when it gets busy it'll probably be hard to find a parking spot. There's a couple of tables in front of the restaurant for outdoor dining. Inside we were given the table at the very back which was nice since there was a screen separating us from all the other diners and it's almost like we had our own private room. Bonus that there was artwork/menu items/wifi password on the screen. Our proof of vaccination was checked, we were given a piece of paper to fill out our contact info for contact tracing purposes and instructed to use the QR code on the table or wall to view the menu and order. I liked that there were descriptions and photos for most menu items but there were a few that didn't have any. Hopefully they can update with more photos. Ordering was easy with adding items to the cart. There was also the option of how you wanted the eggs cooked as well as adding additional items and a section to leave notes for your order. I'm not sure if I missed where to input how much cream and sugar for the coffee or that the option wasn't available because a server came over to inquire about that. We got an order confirmation number and were able to view what we ordered in our order history. It was disappointing to receive our hot drinks in paper cups when we were dining in and the coffee lacked flavour. The Doriyaki Pancake consisted of a pancake with red bean (or butter and syrup), eggs, sausage and a house salad. The eggs were seasoned well and the sausage was tasty. The doriyaki pancake was dry and too sweet for me. The Karaage Moffle was (4 pieces of) Japanese fried chicken with a mochi waffle, red onion nanban (a sauce with a combination of sweet/sour/salty and often spicy-hot flavours), spicy mayo, su-miso syrup and an arugula salad. I can't remember the last time I've had fried chicken that was cooked this well. The outside was crispy and inside piping hot, juicy and delicious. It tasted exceptional on its own but the sauces added another flavour element to it. I love mochi but found this made the waffle too chewy and not as enjoyable. The Saikyo Mushroom came with a house salad, mixed mushrooms, arugula, penne in a sauce of sake, saikyo miso and cream with half a slice of garlic bread. The creme brûlée pancake was so fluffy and delicious. The carbonara and smoked salmon cross isn't was pretty good as well. We ordered the chicken and waffle for take out before and also loved it. There was about a 30 min wait on a Sunday morning around 11am. There's no space to wait inside, so we had to wait in the car until they call you. The service was a bit slow and the the dine in space is really tight, and not really spread out. read more

Went with friends the other day I like how they have dividers between each table. Limited seating and time/duration. I tried a new coffee today and I don't think it's my coffee: cortado: equal parts of milk n espresso with honey. The aroma of the honey was great but I think I like lattes more (personal preference) Had the salad that came with the pasta, omg it was Soo salty that I felt like the dressing was just soy sauce... You know it isn't because you see the oil. The mushroom pasta wasn't the as amazing as I thought. I like how much mushroom you get in the pasta and how it has a bit of arugula to balance the flavours but it seemed to be missing a touch of flavour... I enjoyed the cabonara and the Ringo curry much more. The pasta can be a touch softer, I feel like it was a lil under cook. For the most part I enjoyed the souffle pancake the most cause they have other flavours that other store don't have. We had their creme brulee. The fluffy pancakes with a touch of brulee and fruits makes it a perfect meal after the pasta. read more

Nice trendiest type cafe restaurant. Went on a weekday before 1100 to avoid the long lines. Not sure why people would line up but I'm always the last to know. It had a nice pleasant vibe to it. The pork belly croissant sandwich was flavorful, although they could have been a little more generous with the pork belly. The side portion of crispy little potatos were excellent along with the nice portion of salad. The Wafu Carbonara was average, similar to ones I've had in the past. This charming spot has an enticing menu, think Japanese mochi waffles, souffle pancakes, specialty stuffed croissants, fusion pasta, sandos and an assortment of refreshments. It makes it difficult to choose because I want to order one item from each category! But on better judgement, we shared a main, a dessert and drinks. They have reservations available and I suggest that for weekends. We were lucky to take the last walk-in seating when we were there on Saturday for brunch. Ordered Karaage Moffle (mochi waffle) Matcha Redbean Souffle pancake Peach lime iced tea Coconut water We were both full from just sharing that with two people. The moffle has a very slight chew compared to usual waffles. I wouldn't say it's superior to regular, just slightly different. I only wish there were some ice cream that came with the souffle pancake. It would've been an outstanding pairing with the red bean and green tea sauce. In terms of COVID protocols, I like their use of QR codes to order. This place is quite cozy, so you're likely going to sit close to others. However, there are transparent barriers between most tables inside. You're probably beside another group if you are sitting at the front counter next to the window. I saw this place on a Tik Tok and it looked so good I saved it and on my recent trip to Toronto I stopped by with my friend. I got the fluffy soufflé pancakes and the consistency reminded me of the japanese cheesecake uncle Tetsu's but in pancake form. It also reminded me a bit of whip cream but if whip cream were a bit more solid. Very good and worth trying. I also got karaage chicken to share and although they were a bit dry for my taste I loved the sauce they came with. Really added to the flavours. My friend for the chicken katsu sandwich and the plate was gorgeous and very full. For the price it's very reasonable. We ate outside and it was a great experience! I came here for brunch at 10am on a Sunday morning and boy was it packed. Because I did not book a reservation (which I didn't know I could even do) and I did walk in, I was limited to seating by the bar or outside on the patio. The patio didn't look as appealing so I chose the window bar seats. The staff checked my vaccination record and ID before I sat down but when my friend came later, they forgot to check hers. The ordering system here is quite efficient as they do not have servers coming around to take your order, instead your in the area where you sit you can find a number labelled and you scan the QR code by your seat to open the ordering form. You will need to input the number where you're sitting for them to know whose order it belongs to. I read the reviews here before coming and consensus said food was great but service was lacking. This was also true for my experience here at Cafe N One. We waited quite long for our food. My friend's karaage and mochi waffles came way earlier than my pork belly croissant sandwich. I felt bad as she waited till I received my food to eat and her mochi waffles became hard and cold. There was only one girl being a runner/waiting on/ and serving food and, as I mentioned earlier, it only got more packed as the morning went by. Onto the food: so I was able to try the karaage mochi waffles which is their take on fried chicken waffles for brunch and the mochi waffles were definitely interesting but they go hard much quicker as it cools down and also gets too chewy. Good creative thought/idea but poor execution. I would much prefer soft fluffy waffles instead. The karaage on the other hand was PERFECTLY seasoned and cooked well. I have no complaints there. It was actually very very delicious. If they sold that as is on the side, I would definitely come back to just purchase a box of karaage and be very happy. The pork belly croissant sandwich that I had ordered was actually pretty darn delicious. Even with the long wait I was extremely satisfied with the food. It really made up for the lack of service. I'm even surprise to say that the food made it worth it. It was a very well balanced sandwich with tang, sweetness, crunchiness, freshness, and savoury flavours. Everything you would expect in a well thought out good sandwich was there. I also ordered the matcha green tea latte with oat milk and it was very tasty as well. Overall, service is lacking but food was amazing. Despite the service issue, I actually would rank this my fave asian/fusion brunch spot in Markham/Richmondhill that I've been to that actually lived up to hype. Which actually means a lot.
