Cafe N One in Markham is a cozy little café with Japanese-style treats. I tried the sautéed mushroom grilled cheese on Japanese toast. It was fresh and tasty, with a crispy outside and soft inside. I also had a hojicha latte (roasted green tea). I ordered it with oat milk and no sugar, and it tasted smooth and comforting. The best part was the matcha red bean soufflé pancake. It takes about 30 minutes, but it's worth it. The pancake was soft and fluffy, with a light egg flavor. The matcha sauce was rich, and the red beans tasted very authentic. The menu has lots of options, including snacks, toast, croissants, pasta, udon, desserts, and drinks. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The only downside is the café is small and tables are close together. Still, it's a nice spot for Japanese desserts.

Tried many different dishes and everything was delicious. The coffee was especially good. This is one of the brunch spots I've been going to a lot recently. Didn't get to try the dessert yet,but they looked great-definitely next time!

Located at a random plaza on woodbine that I never really noticed before (considering im located in markham). I walked in on a weekend and it was full - the first waiter told me it would be a 10 min wait and then the next person right after told me it would be an hour wait... lots of confusion in terms of seating arrangements. In the end, we waited about 15-20 mins. Small restaurant and suggest making reservations on the weekends to ensure you get a spot. The wafu carbonara was really delicious and flavorful - highly recommend. The karaage moffles was mediocre- the chicken was delicious however the waffle wasnt as great - she cousin felt that the waffle was a little stale. I thought the waffle texture just isnt an ideal mix with the fried chicken. I will def come back to try their other item

Food is yummy. The pasta is yummy, the portion would be bigger. The soufflé pancake is also yummy but it would be better if it is hotter. Service is prompt and friendly. Ambiance is fine but the place is really small and felt cramped. And also very very noise inside due to small space with the a lot of people. The noise level made me have a headache. Parking was very limited. I think I will try to go on a weekday next time. Weekday was too hectic to go there.

Very nice cozy cafe conveniently located at Woodbine & Highway 7 intersections, this cafe is operated by Hongkongers but it serves some Japanese-styled pasta, soufflé pancake and coffee, it's similar to Pokka Cafe in HK. This is a place for casual chat and meal with friends. We've ordered pasta, soufflé pancake, flat white coffee and cappuccino. The foods were delicious; the al dente spaghetti was cooked just right with delicious bacon pieces. As for the soufflé pancakes, it was warm, soft and fluffy with fresh whipped cream and some fruits, it was eggy and not overly sweet. We saw many young customers in the cafe. 10% discount was offered if paid by cash and each of us paid $30 for lunch. I'll come again.

The food was absolutely delicious -- the main dish came with garlic bread and a side salad. The beef was super soft and tender. The overall dish wasn't overly flavourful and wasn't bland, just the perfect amount. However I do think it's more expensive than I thought. As for the chicken karaage, it was so fresh and crispy, adding the extra lemon flavour made it even tastier. The portion sizes of both were great and I keep coming back for more! Main dish - $22.50, Karaage - $6.50 The staff were all very friendly and helpful with suggestions, but it became slightly difficult requesting for more water when it got busier. Overall the ambiance was exceptional. This restaurant does have limited parking space since it's a small lot. Would definitely come back and try other foods!

I had brunch at Cafe N One on Monday, December 9, 2024 at 10 am. The cafe had just been open for about an hour and it was still pretty empty at this time. It's a relatively small cafe with few seating. I can imagine it would be difficult to find seating during peak hours based on how busier it got later on. Overall, I had an average experience at Cafe N One. It's nice that this cafe offers a lot of savory lunch-y items this early in the morning. But I only ordered the sautéed mushroom grilled cheese. I thought the grilled cheese was bland and the mushrooms could use a bit more seasoning. The salad was light, fresh, and had the perfect amount of dressing. The avocado smoothie tasted too milky for my preference, but I appreciate that real avocados were used. Service was good. Very nice and professional. Overall, I thought my experience was average. I think I would have a better experience if I had ordered a different dish and the avocado smoothie tasted more avocado-y than milky.

Went there for weekend breakfast. The souffle pancake was so fluffy, so light, so good. It came with red bean paste, green tea sauce, and some fruit pieces. The most delightful part was a gold foil added to the pancake. What a luxurious dish, LOL! The smoked salmon croissant was not bad either. The place is small with cramped tables. It's quite noisy because of this. Nonetheless, the food here is good. Recommended.

Came with friends to enjoy some decent food and coffee. Service wasn't bad cause they were super busy. And the atmosphere plus the ambiance was lively with all the patrons having a good time with their friends chatting away. We came back a few times after.

We were very lucky to get a 2-seater right when we walked in on a busy Sunday afternoon around 1:30pm. It is a small, cozy brunch spot south of Hwy 7, off Woodbine. I ordered the Karaage Moffles with Arugula Salad, and a Black Sesame Latte. My partner had the Doriyaki Pancake Breakfast, and a Hojicha Latte. The food and lattes came out quite fast. I really enjoyed the crispy karaage with the spicy mayo, and would 100% order it again! My partner said the doriyaki was a bit soggy, but overall, she enjoyed the breakfast.

Had seen this place a while back and totally forgot about it until we dropped by Electric Piggy next door and saw the fluffy pancakes. Spoiler, we got the fluffy pancakes. It's an order with QR code kinda store with pay at the front counter, so service was minimal. Matcha fluffy pancakes - Pancakes were tall! It takes some skill to make em like that. The texture was super fluffy and taste minimally sweet. The matcha syrup was too thick and heavy and pretty much overpowered the pancakes. Nice to try, but I don't think I would get this specific flavour again. Maybe just the pancakes by themselves.

Decided to try this place today and from presentation to flavour I was impressed. Can't wait to come back and try other things on the menu.

Been here couple of times! They have a pretty big selection from pastas to, waffles, pancakes, eggs Benedicts and more. I really like their drinks. I think they're pretty creative with their drink menu. I really like their tiramisu espresso and strawberry matcha. Their caffeine drinks are on the stronger side which I really enjoy. I recommend getting a pasta (my favorite is the carbonara pasta) or salmon croissant. I would skip the chicken and waffles here though as the chicken is pretty small. The cafe isn't super big and has probably less than 10 tables so can get really busy on the weekend. I definitely recommend booking or calling ahead to avoid the wait. Overall pretty cute cafe, would definitely recommend trying.

Came here with some friends for the omakase special meal…read more Such a lovely overall standard omakase experience and meal. The highlight for me was probably the set of four starter appetizers, they were flavourful, delicately prepared and perfect way to start the meal. I liked the slightly pickled dish with cucumbers the best. We also had sushi prepared with fresh seafood. The rice was probably my favorite compared to other places I've been. It was perfectly seasoned rice, warm and cooked to have just the right texture, not overcooked and not undercooked. The rice held up well when picked up by hand and complemented the flavours of the fish. Finished the meal with a matcha flavored pudding flan type dessert which had deep matcha flavours. If you're a fan of matcha, you'd probably enjoy it too. All in all, the meal was enjoyable, the torched tuna sushi was probably my favorite sushi of the set and my least favorite was the egg/eel, I was expecting a sweet egg at the end so it unexpected.

Taki is a fine dining Japanese restaurant located in the busy commerical areas of Richmond Hill…read more We recently had lunch here for a special occasion. The restaurant is super quiet and they offer great quality of food with great service, and the price is expensive if you choose to order sukiyaki set (expect $80+ per person). You can choose between sushi sets at different price level or sukiyaki from the menu. This suits the need of our group given some people prefer sushi but some couldn't eat raw food. They also offer a couple of limited appetizer dishes such as tempuras and unagi don. If you booked the sukiyaki table and want to order sushi, you need to call them in advance to notify which sushi sets you want. We tried the sashimi and sushi courses at $55, which included miso soup, 5 pieces of sashimi, 8 pieces of sushi (squid, toros, salmon, scallop etc.), handroll and matcha or black sesame icecream at your choice. The sushi is smaller than average, suitable for small eaters. The course is totally worth the money. I love every piece of sashimi and my favourite sushi include the scallop and the squid. Everything was super fresh. The dessert was also having the perfect sweetness level for me. In addition, we also tried the sukiyaki for two ($110), which includes mushrooms, cabbages, great quality of Angus beef, yummy tofu and udon. Again, all the material was with great quality and super fresh. I especially liked the sweet sukiyaki soup, the tofu and the udon. We also ordered some shareable dishes including chawanmushi, unagi don and cod. Cod was cooked to perfect (soft and flavourful), and unagi don had quite decent portion. It would be better if the unagi could be softer from my personal opinion. Chawanmushi was mediocre. Overall, I strongly recommend this restaurant to fan of Japanese cuisine. It meets different people's needs by offering both cooked and raw food options, and the sushi set definitely has great value for money.

They tasted very fresh, however they were rather thinly sliced. Came on a Thursday for lunch and it was rather busy. Usually a good staple restaurant in Markham but our most recent visit was a disappointment…read more Food was pretty mediocre. The worst was the beef sashimi which had the gnarliest grey colour (ykno the colour when meat is leftover sitting in the fridge for way too long) and had no sear at all either. Sushi temperature was much too warm and the variety was pretty basic for the 2 person platter. Shrimp tempura was good tho - not too oily and not overcooked. The restaurant was extremely hot inside, the A/C was no where near the right temperature for how hot it's been this summer. It was also extremely noisy inside since the restaurant is relatively small - not really a place for a quiet, lowkey meal.

Back again and incredible again…read more Small tip. You don't need to order on only one phone. As long as you scan the bar code, you can order from any phone. Enter either you own info if paying separately or the same info if one person pays all of it. Lots of new dishes as well as old favourites: Chochin: Tried it. Not a fan. Tastes exactly the way I thought it would. Which is internal organ like but in an unpleasant creamy way. Duck liver raspberry toast: Nice but could be bigger. The raspberry brought an expected nice sweetness to the nice liver taste. A little more raspberry would be nice. Tuskune and egg yolk dip: It's ok but not that big a deal. Cheese momo: Fantastic. The swiss cheese is an excellent pairing to the chicken. Skin-Kawa - Delciious. Crispy. Must have, Hiza (knee cartidlidge): nice and crunchy Beef short rubs boneless: Was enticed due to the tendon part. It was nice but not incredible. Beef tenderloin + Chimichurri: Wife's favourite. We always order several of these. P-toro: Another must repeat. Great pork belly taste. Cherry tomato bacon maki: New and delightful. Bacon wrapped cherry tomatoes provide a delightful burst of tomatoey sweetness wrapped with the unctuousness of bacon. Lamb rib chop: Excellent and tasty. Once again everything was cooked perfectly and the amazing binchotan smoke made everything delicious. Fun fact, they put charcoal in the free water carafes as well.

Good food that hurts your wallet…read more Japanese izakayas are few and few between in Markham - that's why I got excited to see Sumoki pop up! It's not on the main street of Unionville, but its presence on a side road matches the quaint nature of the restaurant. It's not the biggest inside, but it gives off a Japanese aesthetic with the wood trim throughout. We made reservations in advance to avoid long lines, if any (thankfully it wasn't packed the night we went). Orders are made via QR code, which seems to be the norm now. I like it since you don't have to waive down waiters in a low-dimmed izakaya. Their main offering seemed to be skewers. We ordered a bunch of them to try - notably, all of them had a nice smoky fragrance to them (maybe that's why it's called Sumoki). We especially enjoyed the Grilled Chicken Skin. Perfect crunch from the initial bite leading to a slight chew throughout. The seasoning was spot on as well. Other honourable mentions include extremely succulent Chicken Thigh meat, Gizzards and Beef Tongue. You could really taste the meat juices from each skewer since the chefs don't overpower it with seasoning. Other local skewer places tend to have the same seasoning across different cuts of meat, so Sumoki felt like a breath of fresh air amongst the growing market. Coincidentally, it's also the first place I've been to offer Giant Rooster Testicles. Now...don't be alarmed. It sounds exotic and might not be everyone's cup of tea, but this dish is extremely creamy. Give it a try if you have the courage! We came to celebrate my brother's birthday, but quickly realized our bill was racking up really quickly despite a small number of orders. Sumoki is definitely a place where you don't want to come on an empty stomach, since each order is 1 skewer (unlike other local restaurants). Other menu items, from what we saw of neighbouring tables, didn't fare much better in terms of portion sizes. We left quickly to avoid some serious financial damage for the 6 of us, but also quickly drove to another impromptu restaurant to get settle our hunger down. Sumoki definitely isn't cheap. I wouldn't recommend this to be a formal dinner - moreso if you wanted a light snack after dinner. But then again, with these prices, Sumoki tries to make itself bougie without delivering 100% satisfaction so maybe try at your own risk.
