    Wafu carbonara
    Valerie P.

This place has been on my list for a while and I'm glad we finally made it. Loved that you could call ahead to get on the waitlist -- made things so much easier. We got the matcha yuzunade and a brown sugar miso latte to drink; the yuzunade was the better of the two, bright and refreshing. For food, we tried the wafu carbonara, strawberry ricotta toast, and karaage moffle. The carbonara was great with its sesame and nori topping, the toast had a nice sweet-tangy balance with the citrus zest, and the karaage moffle was a fun crispy-savory take on waffles and fried chicken. Maha's is still my favorite brunch spot overall, but this was a solid, enjoyable meal and I'd love to come back to try more.

A local Asian fusion breakfast/ brunch spot. Great service, good food. Came here with a party of 5 and we came hungry. The menu has a variety of sweet and savoury brunch items that are Asian/ Japanese fusion. Some hit or miss dishes from what we tried: Karaage moffle 5/5 - Thought this was great. A Japanese fried chicken with mochi waffle and miso syrup. Well balanced and paired perfectly with texture and the sweet and savoury bits. Bistro salad 2.5/5 - I think this can be a skip. It's romaine lettuce, house dressing, parm, onsen egg and panko. Nothing really special with this one. Blueberry & ricotta toast 4/5 - Came with blueberry compote, house ricotta and yuzu. A nice sweet finish to the meal. Nori fries 5/5 - The first plate of nori fries came out a tad undercooked and we requested for another one that came out perfect. The nori topping for it was the extra umami the fries needed. Wafu carbonara 4/5 - Came with bacon, ponzu, onsen egg and parm. Nice, creamy, and perfectly salted. Tatsuro's curry bolognese 4/5 - A pasta with beef, pork curry, pickled onion, fried shallot and cilantro. Heart and savoury. Overall, a nice neighbourhood local fusion brunch spot to check out.

Tatsuro's located along Queen St. E. near Greenwood Ave serves up Japanese-inspired brunch in an inviting space in the Leslieville neighbourhood. You are also able to order coffee and pastries to go as well from their coffee bar. I've been meaning to make my way to Tatsuro's for the longest time but wasn't able to until recently (since it's so far east!). I stopped by Tatsuro's on a Friday around 1:30pm for a late brunch/lunch recently. The restaurant is open daily except on Tuesdays where they close in the afternoons around 3-4pm. The space is inviting where there are seats for about 35-40 customers. They also have a coffee bar at the front if you'd like to purchase coffee and some pastries to go. You can even purchase a loaf of their shokupan bread made in house for $15. The menu is divided up into classic items (like an all day breakfast, karaage moffle, or the yoghurt bowl), toasts (with their homemade shokupan - Japanese milk bread), pasta, handhelds, and sweets, all items have a Japanese twist to them. Drinks wise, there are your classic espresso based drinks as well as matcha and hojicha lattes too. Food/drink wise, I ordered the following items: - Blueberry and ricotta toast (blueberry compote, house ricotta, yuzu) - $16 - Side of bacon - $5 - Cortado - $4.75 You are able to order your code via a QR code at the table or with staff. Food wise, my order was made a reasonable time. The blueberry and ricotta toast was my sweet treat today where the blueberry compote and house ricotta was on a thick slice of toasted shokupan bread. Delicious. Since I wanted something salty and savoury as well I opted for a side of bacon...the perfect sweet and salty combo! My cortado was also made well. Service wise, staff were friendly and efficient. One of the staffs at the end when I was paying my bill was super friendly! She asked how my meal was and even suggested what I should order next time (since I told her everything on the menu looked good). She also mentioned that the restaurant is pretty quiet during the early hours of the morning as well. Overall, a great Japanese-inspired brunch restaurant in Leslieville. Do make the trek to try their food and coffee/tea if you're able to!

Nice to see more Asian inspired spots along queen street. A great Japanese style diner. I asked about their matcha latte and they kindly let me know they use ceremonial matcha. It was great and very rich. I got the shrimp sando. Very nice and like they described- a shrimp like filet o fish. My friend got the carbonara. The flavours were well balanced, but I felt like it was a bit dense and dry, could have used more sauce and been a bit looser. They also sell fresh shokupan at the front, which I will try to pick up next time I'm there (they were sold out before I finished eating!)

I love Japanese fusion brunch and Ohiru is one of my favourite spots in Toronto. My friend recommended this spot and said it's a similar menu so evidently I was very excited to try. I came here on a Saturday morning around 11am, it was busy but we were seated right away. You can self order via QR code but there's a server that also goes around. Service was fast and friendly. I got the hojicha latte with honey to start. It was creamy and the right amount of sweet. I enjoyed it. The wafu carbonara pasta was really rich, flavourful and had bits of bacon. It was good! The chicken and moffle stood out solely because of their waffles. It was so chewy and fluffy at the same time. Sadly, the karaage was not very juicy, a tad overcooked and not that good. It's a good brunch spots, I would not hesitate to come back if I was in the area but not sure if I would go out of my way. It's definitely worth a try! Personal note: Ohiru does still rank higher than Tatsuro's because of their condensed milk hojicha latte, udon instead of spaghetti for their carbonara plus shokupan bread for the sauce, and juicier kaarage.

They said this place was good but now I can say, yessssssssss! From the moment I walked in the door to leaving - fantastic. Everyone was welcoming and helpful if I had any questions. Best waffle I've had - and I generally don't like waffles. They are crisp yet soft and chewy. How you ask? It's a mochi waffle. Damn good my friends! Their version of chicken waffles - the best. Crispy chicken yet moist and perfectly cooked inside. Hojicha Latte - earthy and well balanced - check ! The nori fries! Wowzers! Also had the best crunch, generously tossed with nori and came piping hot! Loved this spot and definitely would come back again! Wanna know what else it had this great neighborhood vibe going. Hard to beat that too!

Anyone who's familiar with the Leslieville area knows that there's no shortage of brunch restaurants looking to set themselves apart. Tatsuro's angle is with its small whisper of Japanese inspiration. I'm talking mochi waffles and a sprinkle of furikake and kewpie mayo over fries. Make no mistake: this is typical brunch fare, but with a Japanese twist. I would say that it's a total gimmick, but the food is so damn good! I had the breakfast sandwich with added bacon and a side of the potatoes. It's the execution of both items that made me a repeat customer. The sandwich - perfectly toasted and buttered brioche buns with perfectly-crispy bacon and jammy eggs. Potatoes (actually the star of the show) - crunchy on the outside and perfectly cooked on the inside. I know most of you would gravitate to the nori fries but I implore you to give the potatoes a try. You won't regret it. Pasaj is good. Lady Marmalade is good. Tatsuro's can definitely hold its own and in some ways, it's better than the brunch heavyweights of Leslieville. I'd definitely recommend it!

    Chicken karage mochi waffles

When Asian fusion does brunch it's usually a hit and Tatsuro's food and staff definitely got the job done! Knowing it gets crowded, we were the first customers at 9:05am on a Saturday. It gradually got busier within the next half hour and the spacious space was able to give everyone enough space. We ordered the karage moffles, all day breakfast and moffles with syrup. I love mochi waffles and Tatsuro's did a great job in getting the waffles crispy on the outside while maintaining the gooey mochi texture with each bite. The Japanese milk bun was nice but I felt it was nothing special. The latte and cappuccino were nicely presented and tasted smooth and not acidic. I would come back for the spaghetti and reorder the moffles. The staff were all super friendly giving the neighborhood vibes. Parking was easy too on the side streets or green P right in front of the store on Queen Street.

My friends and I came here on a Saturday morning and were seated right away. We shared the karaage which was actually quite crunchy with little meat and it was hard to eat. I got their regular breakfast and felt the sausage was tough to chew. I did like the smashed potatoes and the bread. I also ordered an iced hojicha latte but it came out hot. The hojicha latte was still good. I think the food is pretty okay, not special and a bit expensive for what it is.

Tatsuro's brings inventive Japanese-fusion brunch to Leslieville's competitive morning landscape, and does so with considerable panache. The space exudes inviting warmth, while the menu demonstrates genuine creativity in marrying Japanese sensibilities with Western brunch conventions. The karaage moffle proves a delightful textural study, and the curry pasta variations showcase confident, well-balanced spicing. Service is notably enthusiastic, though occasionally exhibits rushed energy during peak hours. The pasta preparations particularly impress, suggesting a kitchen with both technical skill and creative ambition. A welcome addition to the neighbourhood's already impressive dining roster.

Stopped by this Japanese-inspired brunch spot and thought it was good. We got: - Karaage Moffle: The karaage was tastily fried though would have liked maybe one or two more pieces for the price. The waffle was a bit overly crisped but liked the mochi inside. - Wafu Carbonara: Good al dente noodles, not at all creamy. Seemed almost more like a cacio a pepe to me, but maybe this is really how it should be. Overall pretty tasty. - Blueberry and Ricotta Toast: Nice thick shokupan bread, though a bit overly toasted for my liking (personal taste). Generous amount of ricotta and blueberry jam made this indulgent. Space is simply decorated in an almost retro diner style. Prices are what prices are these days. Service is standard, kitchen is quick. Overall, a pretty good brunch spot with an interesting menu.

This place is great! Lots of unique and great tasting food. We've come here a couple of times now, and as someone has a child this place is pretty child friendly. Fairly spacious, with options kiddos and adults will love. The servers are all super kind and great hosts. Definitely will be back again.

Such a cute ambience! Nice service for the most part (One server made us feel a bit rushed but other than that everything was fine and everyone was kind and welcoming). The pasta omggg was the best part!! It really blew me away. The sandwich was also amazing but for improvement maybe make it a bit less saucy, there was sauce everywhere on the bottom of the buns and dripping out of the sandwich but the flavours were there and chicken was cooked to perfection. We also got their hojicha and iced lattes which were normal tasting but a bit pricy $7 each. Would return to try their sweet menu items! They make their bread in house and you could definitely tell by the taste!

First to know is you can't pay with credit card here--there's an ATM in the front of the restaurant. As far as the restaurant goes, it was fantastic from start to finish. Our table of 4 was seated and serviced by 1 main staff member, Lydia, who talked us through the whole menu and ordering system, recommended some great starts and then kept us frequently updated all throughout dinner. She checked up on us along with her assistants who were also bringing items and servicing the table. The food quality was excellent with juicy and flavorful cuts of beef along with the shrimp, pork, veggies, side dishes/ponchon, and rice--it kept coming consistently. Grill changes were frequent as well. The atmosphere is lively and there are a lot of servers so you aren't trying get someone's attention all the time. But it doesn't feel too cramped at the same time. As it is AYCE, everyone in our group left full of course and enjoyed each course. I liked the almond tofu at the end! ----TL;DR---- Pros: great selection of meats, quality was top notch, huge portions of course as it is AYCE, service was prompt and all staff were really friendly. Cons: no reservations so need to be on a waitlist. The no credit card system is a bit of an inconvenience. Bottom Line: we loved it--definitely would go back again and enjoy more of their selections! You have to try them if you like meat and AYCE!

It's my go-to spot to get my don fix - I love the wide variety of dons (rice bowls) that they offer with various fish and seafood combinations. There are also unique appetizers in the menu, such as Purple Yam Croquettes, Crab Crackers, Braised Bamboo Shoots with Shirasu (immature whitebait fish), and Takowasa (marinated raw octopus pieces, to be eaten with or wrapped in nori / seaweed). Although the dons are the main highlight of their menu (hence the restaurant name), they also offer traditional sushi, sashimi, sushi rolls and sets (similar to other Japanese sushi restaurants). Miso Aburi Scallops were very flavourful - nicely torched, giving the scallops a nice grill / char taste. They came with red and green seaweed, and a bit of fish roe. Large Premium Hana Don contained a good amount of fish and seafood, including a whole abalone, uni, shrimp in the shell, aburi salmon, ikura (salmon roe), salmon sashimi, tuna sashimi, yellowtail sashimi, other various fish sashimi, tamago (egg), and a few slices of cucumber on a generous bed of rice. I liked that the rice was a mix of white rice and some type of dark-coloured grains. Unatama Don came with a big piece of unagi and tamago (egg) that were both excellent. The sashimi were all fresh. Okonomiyaki was disappointing but it was sort of expected... for only $9, it was about 99% just flour pan-fried in a patty, without any substantial fillings (unlike real okonomiyaki, which usually contains protein / seafood, cabbage, eggs, and other ingredients). Location is super convenient near Bay & Dundas, ambiance is very casual, and service is quick.

We got a bunch of dishes to share and overall liked most things but some things (like the oyster) unfortunately didn't hit as well. Wagyu - thin slices but very tender and very flavorful with the cheese - surprised by how well the flavor combo worked out. Tofu - easily one of my fave agedashi tofu. Huge tofu slices with very chewy outer texture, a bit gelatinous . Really went well with the sauce and toppings Carbonara - nice chewy texture to the udon, not too soft and not too firm. The sauce was nice and creamy. Not as truffley as I thought it would be, wish it was a little more but it was still pretty good Oyster - least favorite of all the dishes we got today. It was a bit sour and the cheese felt like it didn't really help the flavor profile of the oysters. It was super oily from the cheese, felt like it was drowning in cheese/oil flavor Cod - it looks good but something is lacking, maybe in taste? Feel like maybe the marinade did not penetrate enough. The texture is still nice and soft , with a crisp skin . Also was a bit too oily for our liking, compared to other miso cod we have had. It was also a relatively smaller piece of cod.
