Chicken Vindaloo
Abby M.

I wanted to try a new place this evening so I decided to try Cafe of India in Maynard. They get a 5/5 for spice as many places don't make their food spicy enough and I enjoy the heat. The chicken vindaloo I ordered was level 5 spicy, and had a good balance of both meat and sauce. I wasn't as impressed with the naan or the basmati rice. I ordered garlic naan and it didn't taste very garlicky. It was also dry. The basmati rice was plain and didn't have any additional aromatics such as cardamom added. Coming from the Raleigh area, which has a large Indian population, I was disappointed by the flavoring of the naan and the rice. Overall I'd give Cafe of India a 3/5.

Left over in a box, it's not even biriyani rice! Cant believe a restaurant feeds you left over

I ordered lamb biriyani from cafe of India and i got someone's left over in a box with added white rice on top. It was a mix of someone's left over and i could not touch it. The worst Indian restaurant i have seen. I don't recommend this restaurant, you can't trust this cafe because they will feed you anything as they tried to feed me leftover.

Nice place. Waitress Nicky was very sweet and accommodating. Food was delicious. Would definitely return to try more items on menu. Lost 1 star cause I'm at that age where a clean bathroom is very important.

The sad chicken biryani ($17.12) begging to be thrown into a trash! Uncooked chicken is a health hazard.

I have had their paneers and naans, and have enjoyed each type I am now a regular customer.

Sadly, not my favorite Indian food. They were super nice but the flavors were lacking.

And flavorful it was! The chicken tikka masala sauce was packed with spice and had a lovely silky texture. Paired with the rice and naan was a bite that transported us straight to India! Not to mention, the ceremonial decor makes the entire night feel like a true, traditional dining experience. This spot is perfect for sharing and the meal was very cheap for the quantity and quality! We were also able to try their crisp veggie samosas (my absolute fav!) and their traditional gulab jamun (which they kindly provided us on the house!) The service is incredibly kind, moves swiftly, and truly makes you feel at home. Finally, I have to commend their extensive menu offering every traditional indian dish you can imagine, plus some you've probably never heard of. I can't wait to go back and try more things, this spot is the perfect place to indulge in some comfort food or branch out and try something new! I can't give this place enough praise and I'd definitely recommend you stop by whenever you get the chance! Make sure to bring your appetite, and maybe some friends and family to help out as well.

Sometimes I feel if I want to search Yelp, the more effective strategy is to search the Yelp listing on Google! Good thing I found the listing before creating a duplicate! But I digress: I was at Mighty Squirrel Brewery to celebrate a birthday, and this was the truck parked outside. My indecisive, variety-loving self to go for the Chicken Tikka Masala Combo. The dish came with rice, a little veggies, a few pieces of chicken, and some naan. On its own, the dish was A-OK. While not the greatest Indian food I've had, food trucks get a bit of a pass. The chicken and veggie had lovely spice (not heat) and good, distinctive flavors. The rice was cooked perfectly, and went great with any leftover sauce. The naan was nothing to write home about... but like the chicken not being at peak tenderness, I don't expect it fresh out of the tandoor. While in and of itself the food and very friendly service would put them close to a four. However, the value and price lands them squarely in three territory. With tax, the whole plate was $20 - this being for three small-ish pieces of chicken, and some rice, veg, and bread. While I can't say next time this truck and I are at Mighty Squirrel I'll go for a pretzel, I can say I would not seek this truck out at a Food Truck Festival.

Waaaay overpriced for what can best be described as seriously Mediocre fare and small portions…read more There were two tiny scoops of curry in my lunch combo surrounded by a massive pile of rice. I will not be bothering to stop here for lunch again.

Indian is one of my favorites and this was a fairly short drive from our hotel in Waltham. We made a reservation but that did not seem to be at all necessary. It was a Monday night and it was not particularly busy. We were seated right away. They featured a very pleasant dining room and we were able to secure a table by the front window. This was a great spot and added to our experience. The service was very good. We were attended to quickly and well cared for throughout our time there. The food came out in a timely manner well presented at the appropriate temperature. My colleague opted for the Creamy Coconut Chicken. I tried a bite of this and was favorably impressed. In addition, he had a Mango Lassi to which he also gave a thumbs-up. I had the Fish Curry, which I ordered at a medium level in terms of spice. It was very tasty as it had just the right amount of kick. He ordered the Garlic Naan to accompany his meal while I had my favorite type of Indian bread (my favorite type of bread period, really) Peshwari Naan. We were both happy with these choices. I also had a glass of cabernet which turned out to be a decent choice. Our final bill that included food, drinks, tax and tip was $86. At $43 per person in this inflationary time, I was happy enough with the value given the quality of the fare and the overall experience. I would be happy to make a return visit.
