This is usually one of my go to restaurants if I'm wanting some delicious chimichangas and chips. However, tonight was not a very fun evening out. Our waitress was horrible. It took what felt like forever for Anyone to even come take our drink order. Then, when we ordered she acted like she didn't know what I was talking about. She didn't come back very often to see if we needed drink refills. And just overall, wasn't very friendly. She'd talk to us from by the kitchen area and not actually come to our table. Let's just say she didn't earn a very good tip tonight. I understand we all have bad days but she needs to get her act together if she wants to keep her job! Her name is Teresa if it matters. After a very bad service experience here a few years ago, which made me not want to return, we decided to give it another try since we had a coupon. What a mistake. Once again, the service was terrible. Sooo slow and completely disinterested. I had to request cheese for my fajitas and got it after my husband had practically finished his meal. We were going to get dessert but our waitress never showed up and the rest of the staff were too busy laughing and siting at a table playing slap and tickle. Had to get up and ask for our check. We used to come here quite a bit and it was great. The happy hour was a great deal. However over the past year they have continued to raise the prices on the drinks. We went last night and it will unfortunately be our last. Happy hour boasts half price on all drinks. My margarita was $7.50. Seriously? Who would pay $15 full price for a margarita? We didn't sit in the bar because we wanted to a more quite experience. It really wasn't quite though because too many people brought their screaming children which is not Cafe Ole's fault. We never received any water, just our drinks. They quality of food here is starting to go downhill. It just isn't that tasty anymore. It seems like the prices have gone up unfortunately. I'm not from Boise to start. And this is probably my favorite Mexican restaurant I have ever eaten our sever, Jason, was really nice and if I had cash I would give him a good tip. I ordered the burrito olé and it was good sized food for the price it was worth it. I wish the salsa was spicer. We stopped by the Meridian location this last week at about 5pm hoping to get an early dinner. We ordered the fish tacos and regular tacos. The fish tacos were so strong smelling I could smell them before they were at the table. The fish must have been sitting out for a week to have such a strong odor. The regular tacos had ground beef that looked like it had been sitting in a skillet overnight. The beef was dried out and discolored. We each took a bite and that was it. We were literally afraid we would be food poisoned. When the waitress returned with our check there wasn't any concern for why there were 2 meals untouched. When I told her the meal wasn't that great she giggled and walked off with my credit card. She didn't even ask if we wanted boxes for all that food. Cafe Ole - if YOU are reading this I AM the customer who wrote I FEEL LIKE I WAS JUST FOOD POISONED on my bill. Very annoyed to give this place $45 for food that was NOT eatable! read more

I had the pleasure of spending a few days in Boise recently and had a jonesin for some Mexican food. When I typed "Boise Mexican" into my smartphone and the first restaurant that came up was "Taco Time" ... fear had struck an icy dagger into my heart and my expectations were immediately aligned with reality. That being said, it's in a really cool location downtown. The decor is great and the service was really friendly as most people and places seem to be in Boise. The food didn't suck. It certainly looked and tasted like Mexican. The portions were massive and I was thankful I got something relatively healthy vs. the gut-bomb my colleagues opted for. Be sure you pay the up charge for guacamole. I found it to be the best part of the meal. That and the service, they were great. So friendly and kind that I'll forgive them giving me flour tortillas instead of corn as requested... typically I demand a lb of flesh for such an egregious transgression but I was so happy to get good service for a change we'll call it square. read more

So I don't usually do this because we always have good service with Cafe Ole in Boise but I will not return to cafe ole again. We encountered the worst customer service from Siena. I come all the way from meridian to come to this Boise Cafe Ole because we like her service and we specifically ask for her. We get sat down and my girlfriend orders shots and of course she asks for our ID with a very bad attitude and I look at her like ok this is weird maybe she having a bad day and then she tells me "O I remember you, your the one that don't tip". I was shock thinking maybe she has me mistaken for someone else because i know how servers get paid and depend on tips just like i would expect to be tip also. It was very disrespectful, very unprofessional, i felt uncomfortable and discriminated against. So my girlfriend and I left with a "have a good night" smerk. My friends and I come to this cafe ole and she makes at least $100 to $150 just off tips from us because she's great but now I will never return there again. read more

The food generally ranges from OK to good and the atmosphere at the Milwaukee branch is pleasant. However, their cantina is one poorly run and sub-standard excuse for a bar. The service is often poor and comes with an attitude. The happy hour margaritas are a weak and watered down imitation of a good drink. I used to really enjoy this place, but now I find much better alternatives including On The Border near the Edwards Theaters. read more

I am here newly from Nyc and found dinner @ cafe ole a great family restaurant with a waitstaff pure Mexican and friendly as you will find anywhere. Food was not too spicy, hence my use of the salsa bar. The grands loved what they got for nums and the dinners were all Clean tasting and well prepared. We went on a Boise first Thursday, 6 people for 35$ (full dinners for all) and if the plates were assembly line food, I'll eat it anyday. read more

Went today for lunch, visiting from out of town. Very impressed with our meal, and the staff was very friendly and efficient. We started with chips and the self-serve salsa bar. All were fantastic and very fresh, and by the end of the meal I was eating the pineapple salsa with a fork!! lol Then had a cup of tortilla soup, which was absolutely off the charts!! Next time I go back I might just stop right there. We had two lunch specials- the fish tacos and a chicken enchilada/beef tamale meal, both served with rice and beans, guacamole and sour cream. Absolutely delicious. Our food was served promptly and hot. It was all very fresh, and obviously not a chain restaurant. The fish tacos were fabulous, served with a light ranch-like sauce if wanted, but not needed. The enchilada and tamale were spot-on. We took advantage of the half-price house margaritas with a lunch order, and were quite tasty for house tequilla. All in all, everything, and 3 drinks were a total of $33.00!! So, we have frequently been a customer of this restaurant for many years. We had never had any issues..every since they built a new Café Ole in Merdian, all of the good servers went over to that one, leaving this Café Ole seriously wanting for good customer service. My little girl celebrated her birthday there on a Monday night. They said that since the did the piñata, which is EVERY Monday, it wasn't specifically for her birthday...since they did the piñata they always do, they WOULD NOT sing to her and let her wear the sombrero hat and give her fried ice cream. She felt sad that they didn't sing to her, when the week before on my son's birthday (yes, my kids are 2 years and 6 days apart) they sang to him AND they had the piñata. I am so disappointed in this. We will not be returning to Café Ole. We have been loyal customers for 15 years and this is the last straw. Your management should train their servers to go above and beyond...especially for a little girls birthday. Shame on you Café Ole for letting a little girl down on her special day. read more

very bad...Nachos were terrible & friend had. buritto...cold very nasty...we had 2 beers....I paid for the beer & nachos...they couldnt get the amount right & doubled charged my debit card....be smart & stay away from there....
