My wife and I were on our way to Cabela's and we saw the Happy Hour sign for Jalapeño's. We went in and sat outside. My wife had two lime margaritas and I had two Pacifico beers. We both ordered taquitos. She had beef and I had chicken. Both were crispy, fresh, and absolutely delicious. Our server was Tito, and he was excellent. If I had reviewed Jalepenos a couple of years ago, it would have been 4 or 5 stars. A couple of minor changes just don't add up to me. The good Regardless of the dish, good quality with lots of cheese, but not super high-end. Service No complaints, but it now seems that staff reeeaaally delay on asking about a soda refill. Value $22 for a burrito? Really?! $13 for a bean and cheese burrito? Chips now come with salsa only. Refried bean dip is upon request and has a price. Soda refills seem almost begrudging. read more

Jalapeño's has been around for a hot minute and I finally got the chance to make it in tonight. Hitting up Mexican restaurants seem to be the theme when my girlfriends and I go out. I was the one who suggested this place and I'm happy my friends didn't disagree. There's four of us that usually meet up. Two of us showed up first and got sat. Chips and salsa were dropped off. We chilled until the other two showed up. We didn't get anything crazy to drink. But of course beans and queso were ordered to go along with the chips. I didn't get a chance to eat any as I can't really share food with others right now cause of my new kidney. Our server was sweet and offered to bring me my own. I thought that was so kind of her! I declined, I wanted to fill up on my meal and not the chips. For dinner I ordered the Pollo Loco. It comes with a side of rice, beans and tortillas. I requested that I opt out all the sides that were offered for some veggies instead. My plate came out looking fabulous! My chicken looked so good with the jalapeños on top. There was cheese and chorizo also on top of my chicken. The side of veggies were a great variety. Onions, green peppers, zucchini and tomatoes. The chicken breast was so tender. It was savory and spicy from the chorizo and jalapeños. The veggies were perfectly sautéed. The onions and peppers were soft. The tomatoes were fresh. The zucchini was my favorite. I ate a whole chicken breast and still had another piece left. You get so much food! The vibe of this joint of fun! We came early but towards the end of our meal, people were heading in. I can see why this place is always busy when I drive by. I used to work at this venue when it was Lone Star. You would have never known that it was previously a steak house, the way that it was remodeled is fantastic. I had a great meal. Our sever was so sweet and attentive. I asked for no onions on my burrito and there was onions. another order said no rice and there was rice, and another order didn't get tortillas with his meal, and the last order was her nachos were just gross. the workers were rude and were very impatient and were rushing us the entire time. This place is so GOOD!! The reviews are leading you wrong if you doubt coming here. We have eaten at both the Boise location and the Nampa location. If what you are looking for is authentic Mexican flavors this is your place. The salsa is perfect blend of not to chunky, not to blended and just enough spice. We have ordered and loved the verde enchiladas with shredded chicken, shrimp tacos, taquitos, and combination plates. Honestly, all so good and tastes like it's made from scratch. Also, I feel like I should mention, that I am gluten sensitive. The red enchilada sauce is NOT gluten free, but the green is and is so delicious. There is cross contamination so that always something to keep in mind, but for someone who is very sensitive i have eaten here many times and never gotten sick. First I want to agree with Sarah P.! I have fairly recently moved to Boise from the Canyon Co. area! I have lived in the Treasure Valley for over 48 yrs.! Really love it here, although, so very hate how bad it's gotten on certain levels!! ANYWAY...sorry! My friend and I went to this great restaurant on Franklin and was VERY IMPRESSED!! Not only with the fantastic atmosphere and warm welcome... wonderful staff, not to mention, one of the wonderful sisters that own the 2 places, Irma, that seated us. I've came here pretty regularly food is 10/10 but service is terrible. Multiple times I've came in with my partner for a date and we don't get a single drink refill or chips until they finally bring the tab absolutely terrible service from the brown chicks with too much makeup that are usually drunk. A friend suggested I try jalapeños... 2 years ago. Finally got a chance to do just that. An now? Customer for life! Really delicious! I had a combo; ground beef enchilada, tamale, rice and beans. Everything was so tasty, I can't wait to go back! The only bad thing was the booths didn't seem to be bolted solidly to the floor. The folks behind kept kicking the booth and really clobbering my back each time. I'll have to go early enough not to have anyone sitting behind me next time. My daughter recommended to come to this place so thought to try it. It is very neat & clean, looks to be newly updated. Staff very friendly, chips & salsa good. Menu is a bit pricey for average sized plates. Ordered the carne asada and the shredded beef 2 enchilada plate. Nothing too spectacular, just traditional Mexican food. Carne asada was cooked nicely although it hardly had the char on it any where, rice & beans was what you would expect. Carne asada plate had no sour cream or guacamole (which most places we have been included it) so we asked for some and she gladly brought it. Enchiladas were good, again nothing special or different about them. Overall it was alright, again pretty pricey ( over $40 for 2 meals & only water to drink) but will probably go elsewhere next time for better prices, sour cream ( included) and a bit of char on the meat. read more

We came here last night with a party of 10 and overall I am going to break down the review in a few ways...I will also give a heads up that this place has fairly decent Mexican food for Boise. Most places here including Chinese don't season or spice their food like they would do in California, Texas, New Mexico etc...where they are known for great Mexican food. 1-First off if you've ever read any of my reviews for Mexican food I always rate their chips and salsa 1st. Chips very fresh and warm solid 4 stars if they were homemade it would've been a 5. Salsa while more tomatoey than I usually prefer solid 4 star with just a little heat. They do have a spicier option which you have to ask for and that one was a 5 star. 2-Service was outstanding and not sure of the other experiences but ours was 5 star for sure. Our server Katie was amazing and so attentive to all our needs. This includes other staff that constantly checked on us and kept our adult beverages full. 3- The adult beverage at least mine which I had the top shelf margarita. I had to order an extra shot just to make it taste like it had alcohol in it. However my wife's drink the perfect patron margarita was delicious and much stronger. 4- The food to me was just ok and felt like they have a like of pre-cooked chicken and steak in the back and then they just thrown different ingredients on like onion, jalapeños, green peppers and some sauces. I personally had the Pollo Tapatio and it was very sloppily thrown onto the place which had my beans soaked in my food which I did not prefer. My wife had the Pollo a la Crema which normally is in a white cream sauce. This plate looked like the dipped the chicken in cream sauce and put it on a plate. It had ok flavor but nothing that we are used to. 5- Inside the restaurant was very clean from what I could see and the decor was traditional Mexican flare. Overall I would've given this a 3.5 but since you can't on Yelp it's a solid 3 star for me. I will give it another try because to my earlier point this town lacks great quality Mexican food and has been hard to come by. After searching and searching in the Boise area for great Mexican food, Jalapeño's is getting close! The salsas were pretty good (ask for all 3!). I had a shredded beef chimichanga which was a bit smaller of a chimi than I have ever seen but was very tasty although I have never had a chimi that only had meat inside; no rice and beans and the rest of the kitchen sink in there but again, the shredded beef flavor was very good nonetheless. It was topped with lettuce and some pretty "thin" sour cream (tad runny) and no guacamole! WHAT?!?! No guacamole???? The rice was excellent as was the refried beans so combine that with the shredded beef flavors I would give 3.5 stars to this meal. The service was good and friendly. Next time I'll try their tacos and maybe bump the rating up to 4 if they are outstanding. UPDATE: a month later (July 2021) and had their street tacos dinner this time . While I wouldn't say "awesome", I will say very, very tasty. You get 2 beef and 2 pork with a side of rice and beans. I can't get over how over-the-top sweet their regular lime margaritas are. WHY? A margarita doesn't have to be so sugary. At least it had a decent amount of tequila and of a brand that wasn't rot-gut. I'll bump the place to a 4 star but PLEASE change the marg mix! read more

A great Mexican restaurant option in Boise, ID. We have been there twice now and each time the customer service has been on point- no issues. Their flour chicken flautas are delicious. Tip- 2 people can share this plate. Their chips, salsa, and white queso are very delicious. I think the queso didn't help with not being able to finish my meal ;) One downside- we had 7 people plus 2 car seats and they put as a wonky table instead of making room in another part of their building. Not sure how that made it easier. We were right by the kitchen and when someone got up from their seat and someone was coming through the kitchen door the people would collide. Not safe. read more

Our waitress was so kind and amazing. And the cheese dip is an absolute must. It was so good! However, I ordered the California burrito and wasn't impressed. It's big, but hardly any chicken and all of the stuff seemed to be in one spot, like all of the guacamole was in the same section so it just felt like I was eating guacamole. The tortilla didn't seem to be cooked or anything, so it wasn't great. I didn't eat much of it and was bummed I ordered it. The chicken fajita nachos were good and the carne asada and shrimp platter looked really good. Arrived around 12:30pm, place was about a third full. Sat at a booth in the bar, iced tea, chips & salsa with menus arrived quickly, then a wait to place order. Burritos arrived quickly after getting the order in. They tasted good but nothing special & a bit on the small side for the price. The restaurant and bar is very dated and worn, for the prices being charged they should fix the flooring and cleanup the place. Some restaurants, once in the decline, don't recover from a tailspin of poor quality and disrepair. Jalapeño's is the rare comeback story. Last year was a low point for my favorite Mexican restaurant. Both locations had fallen into a state of disrepair and the food was slipping badly in quality. For most places, this is a death sentence. But not this place. They remodeled both locations and brought the heat and new dishes. Interior- color me impressed. New tables and bar area are updated and fresh. Menu- offerings have been reduced and adjusted and there are a few new menu items to choose from aside from the classics. Service- very good and friendly. Overall- you've won back my patronage! I'm glad that the owners didn't roll over and let the restaurant die, especially during a pandemic that delivered a death blow to so many other small restaurants. read more

I've been here a handful of times and nothing special. Why do I keep coming back you ask? Well, I am usually invited and I want to hang with my peeps, YO! The food is average in taste, drinks are weak, prices are on the higher end, and portions are on the smaller side-- especially Happy Hour. Their HH is limited, with small sides that are not so "appetizing". The service has never been top notch. Again, just a three-star, A-OK, place to eat. We came here with locals who had been before, and we had a really good experience. Chips were warm. Both salsa and bean dip were good. All of us were very pleased with our meals. Husband ate most of his GIANT California burrito. I went with a spinach enchilada which was full of fresh spinach, and a chile relleno. Tasty. The only minor complaint in our group was the one that requested no beans and no guacamole on his chicken enchiladas, and it came out with both. No biggee though, as they were whisked away by others. Really nice waitress. Fun music playing. I ordered the $15.99 shrimp cocktail and asked if I could get it without the jalapeños and cilantro. No problem! When it arrived it was a cold soup full of shrimp, avocado, tomatoes and a slice of lime. There was a shrimp placed on the edge of the glass. Unfortunately that shrimp wasn't fully deveined, and looked pretty nasty. I took a few bites of the soup and it was ok, but my appetite was ruined.
