Cafe Phoenicia is my go to Greek & Lebanese restaurant in Zachary! I've been coming here for years. I like that it's somewhat different than other similar types of restaurants, and that their dishes are consistently good. One of the first differences is that most dishes include a choice of salads. We are all familiar with the Feta Salad, and this is a good choice. However, this place has a Fatoush Salad option, that includes a topping of crispy pita croutons. This is my favorite option! Then we move along to the entrees. Surprisingly, they have a good variety of seafood offerings, which is a reasonable component of Greek cuisine. I like all of these! Then there are a variety of pasta dishes, all with a great Greek flavor. One delightful dish is the Stuffed Plate which includes a variety of stuffed vegetables, along with a salad! There are also great classic options like lamb shanks, shawarma, and gyros. The simple gyro sandwich is always a good option, and priced nicely. That's what I like about Cafe Phoenicia, no matter if you want the simple or the adventurous, they have something to satisfy you. read more

My favorite restaurant in Baton Rouge. I eat here way too much. My family loves it. It's the closes thing to a healthy home cooked meal we can get without feeling guilty when I don't feel like cooking. The staff is great and the food is always fresh. Pricey but worth the splurge. I take my food to go but they're always busy and the restaurant is clean. I love all the pastas, the lamb shank and chops, the crab cakes are my absolute favorite and I highly recommend the Lebanese tea. I buy it my the gallon for $10. It has rose water in it. Oh I forgot the desserts, the NY cheese cake is my favorite and my daughter loves the Dubai brownie. Everything is homemade. Never frozen. You can taste the difference. Like I said, it's expensive as hell and slices are not worth it but they taste great. I'm talking a thin slice of cheesecake for $11 min. Let me start by saying i'm a nice person. I give reviews when reviews are deserved. This particular restaurant deserves every syllable of my review. Today I decided I wanted a Gyro Sandwich. Since I live in Zachary, La I decided to eat here. When I called to place my order the person who took my order paused for a long time when I asked her if I could have fries with my Gyro. She said, "sorry I was writing down your name". Because we all know how difficult it is to write down the name "Sam". During this short conversation, I had to ask her twice, "are you there?" Once I placed my order, She simply hung up. No goodbye, no thank you. When I came to pick up my order, She told me I'd have to wait for change for a $20. I waited 3 minutes. When she came back , she handed me five 1 dollar bills. I was pretty sure I heard her say it was $14.46. I asked her how much it was again and she told me it was "14 dollars and something cents". I was dumbfounded. I didn't say keep the change, I didn't tip her that's for sure but she kept the change. Over fifty cents that I didn't get back. I couldn't do anything to walk out I was so shocked. And here's the part where i'm going to sound mean: I don't know if these person(s) were rude or illiterate but this was the worst customer service i've ever received at any restaurant. This place is actually worse buy the week. Last time was terrible but today I was really craving a feta salad so being that this is the only Greek place in town I said well you can't F up a salad! Yep, this place can I ordered the Mediterranean salad which is feta salad with artichoke hearts. Long story short it came out looked and tasted like maybe they lighted sprayed oil on the lettuce and then put it in a bowl and charged $8.95. I took a bite or two but it was so dry I couldn't eat it. I asked the waitress for more dressing to find out that dressing for the salad was an additional charge. So I sent the salad back because it was inedible without enough dressing to cover the salad instead of just a light spray. We had an event in Ethel, Louisiana and we couldn't find much to eat around there so we ventured to this establishment in Zachary. Tucked away in a shopping plaza, it doesn't look like much from the outside. However, the inside was spacious and decorated with lovely murals of Greece. Every member of the staff made us feel welcome. The menu had a lot of variety. I ordered the lamb shank and it was excellent. I also tried the house margarita. While not a traditional Mediterranean drink, it was very tasty. Nice little dining gem in Zachary. Cafe Phoenicia has excellent customer service. I had a to-go order and from the phone call to the pick up the service was awesome. I had the Shrimp Phoenicia which consisted of eight large perfectly cooked shrimp in a wonderful white wine sauce with mushrooms, red peppers and artichokes. The dish also came with rice pilaf which was nicely flavored, hummus which was ok but not a stand out as it could have used a little more lemon and garlic for my taste and a nice simple Greek salad of lettuce, feta and dressing. The pita was a downer as it seemed bought and kinda stale but overall an excellent meal especially for under 15.00. I'm looking forward to more experiences at the close to home gem. read more

Our first stop in Baton Rouge. The service and food was exceptional. It was very fresh tasting and had just the right amount of sauce for the noodles. I tried the Phoenician coffee too, but I wouldn't recommend; it is strong but has a strong spice to it that is similar to a Chinese seasoning? So I was skeptical about a Mediterranean restaurant in Zachary Louisiana, but this little gem of a place that's located in a strip mall definitely rivals restaurants in major metropolitan cities that serve the same types of food. I've had food from around the globe and I honestly have to say, this little restaurant really does a fantastic job of actually making authentic med style dishes. Love this place but my last two visits have been a bit disappointing. Food is phenomenal as always but the front of house service has me sad they have such good food because it just ruins the experience. I called in a to go this last order and was told 30 minutes. After 40 minutes I went in and my order was "looked in" on and still not ready, they attempted to serve me a 3/4 full jug of Lebanese tea and for 14 dollars. Then when I asked at 50 minutes the hostess said "oh it's right here" and it was waiting and I still had to wait for my tea- and I had seen that bag come up bot 4 minutes after I paid and it sat for almost 15 while I stood waiting- I don't know how long I would have waited had I not asked again. Disappointing to spend 80 on food to take it home cold and soggy. I don't think I will be returning anytime soon to waste money, so disappointing because I love the food when I can get it fresh. read more

Cafe Phoenicia is a nice change of pace for Zachary's restaurant scene. For a smaller town you don't generally find a lot of diversity in food choices. I visited on a Sunday with friends, apparently that's what everyone does on Sundays because they were packed. We were seated quickly though. The menu is quite large and took me awhile to figure out what I wanted but went with the combination plate with gyros and chicken shawarma, they allowed me to substitute the rice pilaf with tatziki. The haloumi appetizer was so delicious and did not disappoint. My friend got a pasta dish and didn't like it but her husband switched plates with her so that worked out. My combination plate was good and they gave decent sized portions but my chicken shawarma was beyond dry and I wouldn't order it again. They are very pricey so this is not definitely in my regular rotation, but they are far better than their neighbors at El Agave. read more

A real highlight of Zachary! My favorite is the fried cheese (very garlicky) and the Mediterranean Chicken dish. I get it over rice instead of pasta. Its a white sauce, sun-dried tomatoes, artichoke, mushroom and such delicious spices. Its so good I crave it! They have some other really good pasta dishes as well. My brother got the combination plate which is an excellent choice too, especially if you dont get to eat this type of food often. You get hummus and greecian sauce with lamb and chicken schwarma and rice. You can't go wrong with that! They have an appetizer called zatar that's oil and spices with pita bread and they were out! My favorite is the Chicken Schwarma plate, though their Pasta Phoenicia is the bomb. They have a large menu and a full bar as well. Had a very nice meal with friends and family. The Mousaka was very cheesy and delicious. The other people ate the chicken swarma which is consistently good. There were so many paper tablecloths on the table that extended past the table top, that one of our party almost dropped his full glass of water on the ground. Might be a better practice to lay less paper tablecloths on the table at one time. The bakalava dessert was a winner as usual. Overall a lovely experience.
