The cafe seems far more invested in cultivating an aesthetic than delivering quality food or hospitality. Service feels slow and strangely disengaged, as though customers are interrupting the ambiance simply by ordering. What should feel warm and welcoming instead comes across as performative and inattentive. The food is especially disappointing considering the prices. The sandwiches are remarkably small and underfilled, leaving you wondering whether you accidentally ordered a half portion. The salads are even worse, which is essentially a pile of arugula. For a downtown business surrounded by residents and neighboring businesses, the lack of inclusion for the community and the repeated disregard for basic city noise expectations is difficult to ignore. Ultimately, Flint has several coffee shops that provide better food, better service, and a far more genuine sense of love for the community here. read more

Went to this cafe today and I have severe mixed emotions. When I walked in, i felt so cozy and comfortable in there. The barista was so kind and she let me take my time trying to decide. I ordered a Mother of Pearl (which is their avocado toast) and a Nitro Cold Brew. I'm pretty sure she was the only one working at first because after one person would order she would leave the register to make the drink. I waited 10 minutes for an "on tap" drink, which felt super weird. After I ordered, 5 people walked in and with only one person working, I knew it was going to take a minute to get the toast. It took 35 minutes!!! Another barista eventually came to make drinks while the girl who was there originally went back to I guess make the toast. My cold brew was too sweet, shouldn't have added vanilla, and it was very watery. Also, my toast.... Ummm, there's more bad than good to say. 1. Too peppery, 2. Tomatoes tasted unwashed, 3. My egg was RAW! The baristas, however, were so kind and I could tell they liked their job. I just didn't like my food. I should have gotten a latte!! read more

Very smooth and relaxing vibe here in Flint. Exquisite service and attention to detail on coffee. I ordered a Rehma sandwich which includes turkey on sourdough and all the trimmings one would expect in a good Sammie for your lunch. The sandwich comes with a choice of salad or chips. This cafe is in the center of Flint. Perfectly situated to watch the CRIM 10 miler. And the rest of the year who knows, but it's one of the main drags here. Great venue. Food is bland and overpriced. Mgmt/Ownership (idk and idc) seem like proper jerks (minding my language a-hole is more appropriate). Building is nice enough but dark, I dont drink coffee so I cant comment on that. Café Rhema is a very cute spot to go to take a break, meet a friend, enjoy a cozy coffee or a have a refreshing iced drink. They also have a relatively extensive food menu and a range of free entertainment events! I've been several times to this establishment and have always been greeted with A+ customer service. I usually go for the chai latte but one of my favorite things on the menu I tried recently was the seasonal crème brûlée latte--sweet, crisp and with that delicious signature layer on top that they heat up and burn right in front of you. I have studied here a couple times too and even though I love the lofi music they play, sometimes it's a bit too loud for my liking. They have several tables and couches but I personally like a bit more table space for when I study so I usually when I come here, it's to meet a friend or two or to just enjoy coffee and chill vibes. Everyone should visit here atleast once! As a self proclaimed bubble tea connoisseur, I will say I was surprised when I saw they offered bubble tea on the menu. I have been spending more time in Flint lately, and hand in hand with that has been finding more and more things around town to discover and try. Cafe Rhema popped in my general search and it looked absolutely beautiful. I was not wrong. it is such a lovely little spot in the heart of downtown offering a wide variety of coffee styles and if you're hungry breakfast options, they offer everything from muffins to sandwiches. I had a chance to try their nitro cold coffee and mango bubble tea. Both were very delicious, although not any great leap in style or method. A nice option if you want to rent out space is there a huge back room. Michigan State rented it out today and it was actually surprising that there was as much room in the building as there way. But all in all, if you want a beautiful place to work, or meet with a friend and relax for a bit, or just go somewhere in sit by yourself in beauty this is a great spot. read more

This was my first time returning to downtown Flint in 25+ years. Stopped here for breakfast. I had Apples and Cinnamon Waffles. The taste was very good. The staff was busy, but available. The way the café was decorated was cool with exposed brick and a relaxed atmosphere. I will definitely go back. read more

Was in Flint for a conference. Since it was college campus I had prepared myself to hit up Starbucks every morning. I was concerned when there wasn't one in sight. Enter Rhema. This is a hipster's nirvana. Couches, chandeliers, lots of wood; a truly delightful vibe in the decor. The menu is original and exciting. I tried a few different things during the week I was in town and all of them were great. It is a small shop and they were slammed with the conference. The waits were a little longer than I'd like but to be expected given the volume of customers. In the back is a small stage with decent theatrical elements. I am hopeful that this is a singer/songwriter or burlesque stage in the evenings. The college (UM Flint) has an asset here and I hope they support it. The effort put in to this place hopefully earns a deservingly long life. read more

Beautiful cafe with good drinks and friendly service. They were out of the tea I wanted so I asked for a suggestion and really enjoyed their blueberry green tea! Loved the slight hint of blueberry and it had a clean after taste. The straws for bubble teas were a little too thin compared to the size of the tapioca balls so I'd be cautious as it could potentially be a choking hazard, especially for younger children; my younger brother kept trying to suck the boba out since it kept getting stuck in the straw and would forcefully pop out into his throat. read more

This place blows me away. Besides being a beautifully decorated cafe, it has a back room where people can be prayed over or seek prayer. It also has a box where you can write prayer requests and a team of people from a local church will pray for you. I think that's something different and a wonderful way to give people the option to have support from the community if they seek it. The coffee looks beautiful here, the barista makes some amazing latte designs. I got a ginger loose leaf Assam tea, and it was just strong enough without being bitter. If anything, I'd say the proportions on the toast and sandwiches are pretty small, but the bread comes from the best bakery in town, so at least it's a tasty small portion. read more

Incredible service. All the wait staff were very polite and helpful. The ambiance was delightful. One of the staff members showed us the 'Lounge' area despite it not being in use. I've only been here a couple times but I know if I lived closer I would be a regular! The atmosphere is killer, the decor is classy, the staff are super friendly and helpful and the drinks are exceptional. I have to admit I am not a coffee drinker but the syrups they use in the drinks are all made in house. They have a small area in the back with a stage that can be rented for special events. In the summer they have tables out front so you can enjoy the fresh air with your coffee. I can't wait to go back and really wish my visits could be closer together! read more

I came here for breakfast and was so pleasantly surprised by this place. I loved the interior. It's so cozy and quiet and such cute decor. The couches are so comfy. I love that they have books open on the tables that have a menu inside. I got the avocado toast and it was great. The bread was fresh and the egg was cooked perfectly. I also got the berry mint smoothie and was happy with it. I loved that the staff are dressed to theme with the place too. Wonderful cafe with quality coffee. They offer different methods of preparation such as pour over and even the batch brew is delicious and costs only around $2. Complimentary cup of coffee if you purchase a bag of beans. Unfortunately, no organic milk available. The ambiance is open and light although the decor has an old school bar feel with red, leather, and wood. There was a variety of specialty drinks and light food, such as pastries and sandwiches. I had batch brew coffee and also tasted the lavender latte and avocado/coconut bubble tea. All were very tasty. Metered street parking or free street parking if you walk several blocks. read more

Staff is very kind and nice. I wish they would hire a few more qualified candidates for quicker service, but maybe great help is hard to find. I've tried ALL the local coffee places and not a single one could carry a flame next to Rhema's. If you're from Europe and know great coffee, the Cappuccino is where it's at. Not overall frothy, not weak on strength either; just well-balanced. This may seem like a minor detail but is a major one (for me) but the bathrooms stayed within an acceptable range cleanliness. This place feels like Hot Topic in 2009. Dark dark energy, wreaks of homeless people, there's little pieces of trash always all over the floor. The entire homeless community hangs out outside and scares away half the city. Brought my 2 year old in here once and I was afraid to even let him walk on the floors. Cafe Rhema as been a mostly mixed bag that mostly falls on the lower spectrum of experiences. The location makes it accessible and convenient if you're in the downtown area. The interior is... interesting... but definitely unique compared to any other coffee establishment in the area. Their coffee doesn't deviate from my expectations as they do that well, but the non coffee options and their more elaborate drinks are where they deviate towards the negative. The quality of the more elaborate drinks do not justify the price tag attached as they are often poorly executed. The staff overall is pleasant, but there have been times where they don't know their menu items well. To clarify, I ask what their thoughts are on a drink I'm ordering but they usually tell me that they've never tried it. Overall, I would recommend this as a quick coffee stop or coffee date. When you're in downtown Flint for a conference, you better make sure that you get your caffeine fixing in in between program sessions. Fortunately for us, Cafe Rhema offered us a great little escape from the hustle and bustle of the actual event. Located in the heart of Flint, I was intrigued by the labels associated with Cafe Rhema... coffee, sandwiches, and boba?! I am interested. A quick bite was all we needed. I ordered an egg sandwich with bacon in an English muffin ($5) and a regular chai latte ($4). The sandwich was not bad at all for having such simple ingredients. The egg could have used a bit of salt and pepper, but overall a solid sandwich with a fluffy muffin to complete the meal. The chai latte itself was good, but not as strong as I would have liked it to be. Overall, the atmosphere and simple, yet tasty options here at Cafe Rhema make a great stopover while you are in Flint. Come and rejuvenate! Sit by the window make way for some great people watching to pass the time. PS- Supposedly you get a free cookie when you check in on Yelp, but they "ran out."
