Popped into Bittersweet Cafe after our original lunch plans in Holly fell through. My husband and I wanted to spend the day browsing antique shops after a quick meal at Blackthorn Pub, but they didn't open until 3 or 4pm. We noticed this little spot across the street and were able to walk in and immediately snag a table. As much as we've loved our past experiences at the pub, we were so happy to have ended up at Bittersweet. It was our first time there and definitely won't be our last!! We both ordered unique cocktails, a couple of sandwiches, and our waitress talked us into dessert. Everything was amazing! I ordered the Harvest Ham Melt -- Freshly sliced ham, apple slices, cheddar, and honey dijon on cinnamon swirl bread... all warm & toasty with coleslaw + potato chips on the side. My husband ordered the Classic Tex-Mex Wrap -- Grilled Cajun chicken, colby jack cheese, black olives, tomato, and mixed greens. He said it was one of the best lunches he's ever had! The decadent Snickers Cheesecake at the end of our meal was UNBELIEVABLE! Honestly too good to be true, and I highly recommend leaving room for it if you plan a visit here! Restaurant interior is quaint, cozy, full of history, and has a very comfortable & inviting atmosphere. Staff is happy, busy, and skilled at what they all do! Quaint little cafe located right downtown. We were out shopping on a Sunday and decided to stop for lunch. I started with a Carmel macchiato and it tasted better than those I have purchased at coffee shops! Definitely will come back for that alone. Staff were friendly and food the food was fresh and tasty. I had the Reuben, and the bread it was served on was delicious! My boyfriend had a cheeseburger and loved it. (Mind you, he prefers his burgers pretty rare, so I was worried when they said they only cook theirs medium well). Needless to say, it was a hit and we will be back. read more

We waited 10-15 minutes for coffee (the waitress forgot we ordered it so we had to order it a second time) - when we wanted a refill on coffee (which again, we waited for - I had to flag the waitress down) there was no coffee made. That's probably because our waitress talked to another table for about 10 minutes. We were there at the end of the breakfast crowd and before the lunch rush so there weren't many people inside. Still, for some reason, it took about 45 minutes to get our food.... I'm pretty sure our waitress forgot to put our order in. When I inquired about the long wait she said they had a lot of online orders - but people who came in after us were being served way before us. She was not apologetic at all. Cute little restaurant. I had the Waldorf salad & enjoyed it very much. Lots of walnuts, cranberries & veggies, a few bits of apple and a nice scoop of chicken salad. The staff was very friendly and nice. My sister had the half turkey sandwich and half salad. She wasn't quite as impressed; she said the bread was a bit old and there were too many onions on her salad. Rating only as a breakfast spot I was a bit disappointed/surprised by this restaurant. On a positive side my Western omelet was well cooked and tasty and staff was very pleasant. on the less positive side, things that you take for granted at most other breakfast spots were add on charges at this business. Case in point my omelet was a two egg omelet versus the normal three eggs where there was an up charge on adding more eggs and Hash browns were not included in the price either but were also a added cost to include with my meal. Looking for your typical 2 egg breakfast with hash browns and meat this will cost you over $14 here due to separate charges for each side. Definately not competitive with the restaurants I normally frequent. Overall, if you are looking for a breakfast in the downtown Holly area there are not a lot of places to choose from and this is a decent option. However be prepared to pay a little extra here due to the added upcharges. read more

Not wheelchair accessible. I'm so disappointed I came to meet a friend and was unable to get in because of the steps. There is no sign of any other accessible entrance. Upon walking in I wasn't too sure I made a good decision. The restaurant is VERY old and in need of remodeling, not necessarily making it modern but improving upon the condition. We had a corned beef sandwich and cole slaw and a turkey, ham, bacon club and a tossed salad. We both were extremely pleased with the presentation and the taste. This is a cute little place that has been around since the 40s. They have a picture on the wall showing that! The staff was ridiculously nice and accommodating. The locals were even so nice. Everyone made you feel at home. The food is simple but delicious and filling. They do only have one restroom that is coed so the line was a few people deep by the end of the lunch hour. Parking is free on the street. Definitely needs a good cleaning with all of the lace and curtains on the top of the walls, they were very dirty. They have some really good cocktails. Although I do not recommend the chocolate martini. They put half and half in it instead of a cream liqueur. I felt like a cat drinking cream out of a saucer. But overall a wonderful place. If we're in the area, I'm happy to know that I'll have at least one place to visit where I know the food is good. Also, I don't recommend this area. Quaint atmosphere and Parisian inspired decor begets elegance, yet it was cozy, seats about 14. What a great cafe! We loved the menu, the charming staff and the possibilities with homemade desserts! We had the Greek Salad and the Waldorf Salad, with simple beverages, e.g., water and iced tea. Then this is the place for you, how this place stays open serving bad food and treating customers like dirt is another amazing oddessy. This place is a cute little gem in Holly. My husband and I stopped in for a quick lunch on a rainy Sunday afternoon. We were greeted and taken care of by an amazing waitress and felt right at home. We interned my father's ashes in the national cemetery and had a reservation for this place for 15 people at 2 PM. They acknowledged they had the reservation, but they didn't hold the tables. So we arrived at a packed restaurant in which half the customers hadn't even ordered yet. Then they asked us to leave the restaurant and go into the freezing cold. Quaint cafe right downtown Holly, Mi. There are about 10 tables (outdoor seating in the summer) and during busy times there always seems to be someone waiting to snag the next table. Rose Manor Reuben was nicely toasted with good amounts of corned beef vs. sauerkraut. However, the corned beef was incredibly fatty & I wasn't able to finish eating it. I may have just gotten a bad portion of beef. Sandwich baskets are served with chips and a little tin of sweet coleslaw which was tasty. First impressions are everything! This is the second time I've been here and I was greeted with the same smile and sincere appreciation for my business. I absolutely love the elaborate ceiling, rustic wood work and brick walls! There are great kitschy photographs throughout and I love the Tiffany lamps and the lace curtain at the tops of the front windows! There are 2 TVs but they're smaller and they are muted! Yay! So, you hear the gentle chatter of conversation and some good tunes lightly playing overhead. I started with the coffee flavor of the day which is dark chocolate mint and it is fabulous! I've never been able to drink black coffee but I didn't need one ounce of sweetener or cream in this one! Delicious! Their sandwiches range from $6.99 to $9.49. I'm trying to watch my pennies but I absolutely had to try the Battle Alley Beef ($9.29) because my server said it was one of her favorites and the words "slow roasted beef and melted bleu cheese" caught my attention! We spent the night at my brothers in Holly MI after a fun night at DTE (Pine Knob). In the morning we were looking for a good breakfast place nearby. We found this little hole in the wall in the quaint "downtown" area of Holly. Boy am I glad we did. They had gourmet coffees and juices (those hit the spot!) and an extensive breakfast and lunch menu. Everything we ordered was very tasty. Notable dishes- Ham and egg on a croissant and the open faced veggie omelet (the special that day).
