A very pleasant surprise. I've probably driven by this restaurant a few hundred times. It's near the Frazier Farms on Oceanside Blvd. Close to the car rental place. This isn't a taco shop, or a fancy restaurant. It's a family owned, nicely decorated Mexican restaurant with really good food at reasonable prices. We were met by a pleasant lady that offered to seat us. On this day we did take out. I ordered the beef chile Colorado burrito and my mom had the pork chile verde burrito. Nice little restaurant with freshly prepared Mexican food. The asada taco was especially good. Hubby said the shredded beef was very good too. The enchilada could have used a little more sauce, but was still good. The beans and rice were both good and made from scratch. I usually don't eat the rice, but theirs was good. An affordable place for lunch that also has a few gluten free options is a good find. I can't say I was blown away with the food, but I had a couple of tacos and was even able to eat chips and salsa there. If you have celiac, you can stick to some tacos and not a lot else. The tacos were ok, fairly forgettable but they were affordable and filling. It was nice to eat somewhere different from my normal rotation. For Oceanside, this is the best Mexican place, but good from any where. The server was so busy with a party of 12 next to us + other tables, but still remembered everything we asked for and nice about it. Dog friendly, brought us water bowls. Top notch for us on that! WOWWIE! It was absolutely spectacular! The waitress was very kind and when we got home my daughter said it was "the bomb". We went last week Was excited to try the place but that didn't last long The server was surly, the food bland and a Swanson frozen meal would have looked and tasted better. Went there for lunch on Friday Valentines Day with some girlfriends. They had a very large table of seniors that was just about ending. We waited a long time for food I'm sure as a result of this.. Which was fine as we were catching up. However when our chimichanga lunch specials arrived 2 were burnt. The server even commented on this. Why then would you serve it? Why not say sorry 2 were over cooked and wait to serve after remade? I thought ok I will give it a try however it was just too burnt. I requested a new plate. My other friend decided to try to eat around since she thought they might use same carne asada and it might be over cooked. I could tell she wasn't enjoying it. Server brought out my new plate and I cut into it and felt something. I pulled out a big bone. Put it aside and carefully finished my chicken chimichanga. When the server came back to retrieve the plates I showed her the bone. She sort of chuckled and said "well it is real chicken". "I will inform the cook" and walked away. I had to laugh at that point. I asked one of the servers at one point "are you having a bad day?" I could not let it go any longer after her demeanor. Again perhaps the large party of seniors was difficult. We all have bad days. I'm in the service industry. Sometimes we need to check ourselves. This was not my only disappointing experience. I will not be returning. There are so many great mexican restaurants in our area that we can enjoy. All the best! read more

It was sooo good. The cheese enchilada was probably my favorite. Boyfriend ordered a massive chicken burrito. He loved the meat and said it was cooked perfectly. Anyways, chips and salsa were provided, but I noticed that if you request more chips and salsa you will get charged $.50 more??? Really?! My whole family loves this place (including two from Mexico City and a bunch who grew up in AZ near the border). It is delicious, fresh, and consistent, which is a great feat considering it is a small, family run business. I especially love the salsa, it is bright and fresh with a good amount of spice, but not so much that you cannot taste your food. The amazing thing about Mexico is that there are so many regions with different types of cuisine and flavors. For those who wrote less than great reviews, consider that perhaps the Mexican food they are used to is actually the inauthentic variety! Went there for lunch today! They have the lunch specials from 11 to 3pm. A lot of combination plates to choose from for only $8.75! You can have a mix of cheese enchilada, taco, burrito, tostada and chimichanga. It comes with a free drink too! Don't expect it to be really fancy with different flavors of pork, beef, chicken, seafood, etc. It's simple as choosing between chicken and beef. However, their meats are very juicy and flavorful! Oh and the enchilada sauce is excellent! The best of all..... their chips and salsa. The waitress saw us gobbling up the chips and salsa, she decided to bring one salsa for each of us... and I think we had 3 refills!!! The servers are friendly and attentive too, well, but we were one of the 3 tables in the entire restaurant. I'll be back for more Mexican food! The chili verde burrito sucks me back to this place like a tractor beam every time. Last night they goofed on our order and sent us the chili verde plate, which was delish but nothing beats the burrito. I also switched things up and tried their chicken and shredded beef tacos which to my surprise, were as good as the server made them out to be! On a recommendation my husband and I went there in the late afternoon . The server gave us chips and salsa. Definitely "Gringo" salsa. No spice and boring . I was disappointed with "Bobbie's special" which was a tostada topped with taco like ingredients. The shell was burnt and there was not much of a flavor. Very bland . Nostalgia for my boyfriend! He grew up in Oceanside and often came here with the fam. The same servers have been there and we are talking about 20 years or more! Talk about a special thing. So I haven't been here in a long time. The first time I went to Cafe Rosarita was with my boyfriend several years ago and I remember the chips and salsa being very good! It is located in the same center of Boney's. It's not a totally visible restaurant. It's kind of tucked in the back with a yellow sign. It is definitely a restaurant that has gained its reputation from word of mouth. Walking in, don't expect a modern "foodie" type of restaurant. It is more of a mom and pop shop that has an eclectic type of decoration from the late 70's and early 80's. You'll see Native American paintings that are in the pastel genre :) You'll also see random Mexican novelties around the restaurant. I could tell that this was a local favorite with the older clientele because I could tell how much the server knew her customers. Lots of conversations about the server's hairstyle came up and people demanded that the server come and sit down with them if they had time. I was the youngest person in the restaurant and I didn't mind a bit! I asked the server for a recommendation. She told me that #11 was very popular which was one cheese enchilada and a beef taco with rice and beans. The other popular choice she said was the Grande Burrito with a chile relleno inside. Sounded fabulous but I went for the #11 combo ($10.95) which was a good sized portion. Most of the combos or specialty items are priced at 11$ and up. As I sipped my coke from the classic plastic coke glass, I fell in love with the salsa. Their salsa was so fresh and so delicious! They gave me a small brown bowl with enough chips for one person. If there is a party of two or more, then they bring out a larger brown bowl. It's only 50 cents more for a refill of chips and salsa if need be. As I was waiting I was looking at their decorations and chuckling to myself because the decor was so old school. I actually thought about the 80's and how much I miss the time period! Finally, my plate came out and was quite large. The food was hot, which was a bonus. My server was very attentive to everyone. She was only by herself and taking care of at least 10 people to herself. She was running the register, running food, busing tables, taking orders, refilling drinks and talking to customers. She was great! As for the food. My indicator on good Mexican food is to test the rice and beans first. Usually 98% of the time, if the rice and beans are good then the plate is amazing. IT WAS! The beans were perfect and so was the rice. The cheese enchiladas were perfection and the beef taco was tasty. It was freshly made and according to my server they butcher their own meat. The taco shell was not as crispy or hard as some others might like it, but it was fresh and tasted like it was homemade. I thoroughly enjoyed the dish and will go back. I had nice conversations with my server, enjoyed my meal and was content. My boyfriend was not able to make it today, but was happy to know that I stopped there.
