Ok. So I can't find the pictures of our food. We had burgers and onion rings. Wanted something heavy enough to lead into the wine tasting. They were the BEST burgers ever. They were perfectly seasoned with all the right toppings. The waitresses were extra nice and it was a very cute lil spot we found on the way to the winery. The burgers tasted like the ones you would make at home. We all know those are the best kinds. My cranberry juice tasted like they had a tree it back. Unassuming but absolutely delicious breakfast spot in Calistoga. Recommend to stop in and load up on a hearty breakfast before heading off to wine taste. Their breakfast sandwich alone is so satisfying. Fresh scrambled eggs, cheese, bacon and even fresh lettuce on toasted sourdough. Served on a bed of crispy hash browns. Loved this so much! This would have a 4 or 5 star rating except for one sour note. This seems to be a local favorite based on how busy it was and how familial the staff seemed with the customers. Love the decor and the story behind the name as well. Our food was pretty good, and our waitress was awesome. She was very gregarious and engaging. However, one person in our party ordered a Belgian waffle, and it was thick, uncooked, and inedible. They ended up taking a couple of bites before giving up. Totally dissatisfied! I ordered biscuits and gravy with two fried eggs on top. It was the most disgusting BISCUITS and gravy I have ever had in my life. There was ONE biscuit with maybe a few tablespoons of gravy. The eggs were not on top. The eggs were hard like hockey pucks and when I got to the bottom, I found a hair in my food. Based on the things that I have heard about this place, I was heading home from Ukiah to Sacramento, and decided to route through Calistoga just so I could have a late breakfast/early lunch here. I was not disappointed. The place is popular. Parking is street parking only. At 10:30 AM on a Monday, I was lucky enough to get the very last parking spot, on the block where the restaurant is located. When I came in, there were only a couple of tables left. Saying that, if you have to park farther, it's worth the walk, if you have to wait, it's definitely worth the wait. I liked the space. It's a medium sized space. It's a cheerful space, and everybody was friendly. I was served quickly. I decided to go for the vegetarian hash. It also came with goat cheese and pesto. Oh my God, it was a total home run. The veggies were seasoned well, and they were not too firm or not too mushy. They were just right. It sat on a bed of both hashbrowns and home fries, the potatoes were delicious and a perfect texture. The two eggs it came with were perfectly over easy, the goat cheese was tangy, and the pesto was rich. The toast was a very good quality sourdough, and even the coffee was great. For this amazing meal, the price was extremely reasonable, and they even offer a military/veterans discount. I would route my trips home through Calistoga again just to stop here. Cafe Sarafornia is a unique dining experience for anyone visiting Calistoga. The diner's interior is full of artwork depicting California's history. On this visit, I ordered a crab cake benedict. I've been here several times over the years and the service is typically pretty good. Definitely try the "goat cheese" with whatever you order. Had breakfast Sunday morning 12/7 after a good 20+ minute wait outside. We had previously checked in but apparently they had forgotten about us. After a few reminders we finally got seated. I will say the food was excellent and our waitress was very polite and friendly. Can't really say the same for the woman who initially greeted us and had asked us to wait outside. She seems to be short tempered. Ambiance is cozy on the small side but the cafe is overly crowded as the food again is very good and the helpings are ample. We enjoyed breakfast at this restaurant both of our two days while visiting Calistoga. The preparation was fast and food very tasty. This restaurant has been operating since 1976 and is a classic diner with lots of its history in display. My wife ordered the 2+2+2 both days and I had the homemade corned beef hash (with chunks of real homemade corned beef) the first day and the Wildcat Scrambler (Italian sausage, spinach, mushrooms and cheese) the second. We came in for a quick bite in-between all of our wine tastings and this was absolutely fantastic. As soon as we found our seats, we were given menus and they quickly took our orders. Within a few minutes of ordering, they brought our food out and we were able to pay the check and leave in such a timely manner that it was perfect. Went in around 8:30am, we could choose our table. If you go around 9AM, expect a full house and some wait time. They are busy! Friendly server, great service, and yummy food. When we asked for 2 orders to-go, the server even tried to have the kitchen cooked the food closed to when we leave. The food stayed warm when got back to the resort! If you don't have high expectations, you'll never be disappointed-which brings me to Cafe Sarafornia. Let's break it down. We stopped by for breakfast as several reviews had positive remarks. Well, not so much. I really don't like dumping on small business but this one had just too many issues not to comment. Where do I start? Ok, it's a Monday morning so it's not that busy. We sit down and immediately notice small pieces of food under the table and crumbs between the two small tables that are moved together to make a table of 4. Clearly the night crew took the day off. Upon reading the menu, I see biscuits and gravy. I asked the server if this item could be substituted for the toast and she said I could and confirmed "biscuits" (later did I learn it was only 1- thus, not biscuits) and the gravy was runny and bland. At the very least they could have chopped up a piece of sausage and put it in there. Anyways, the meal was very basic and unremarkable. The coffee was good tho. Another issue was our friends ordered toast and they didn't have any jelly. Also, the ketchup was in this wide-mouth refillable bottle. This kinda grossed me out because as we were leaving I saw this guy use his dirty knife, where he just used on his runny eggs to scoop out the ketchup- which leads me to believe others do the same and I probably got someone's hibbidy- hibbidy. Lastly, the service was non-existent. We literally only saw the gal 3 times- ordering, food delivery, and check. Not one attempt to refill drinks or even ask about the meal. Mind you, still not busy. I could go on but I think you get the point. Now I realize this is probably a family run business but it's just too many things to not over look. This is a nice neighborhood type of cafe. They don't take reservations and are very busy. I dropped by right before heading back home, alone. It was really busy (Mother's Day) and hot outside. I asked to be seated at the bar and I got it. I ordered some coffee and The Best Huevos Rancheros in Napa Valley. LoL I had to. They had a lot of people around. So I helped myself to some menus. Not a problem. The waitress was very efficient and super friendly, with a good personality. Despite of the complete chaos in the cafe, she attended us refilling coffee timely etc. The food itself was okay. Slightly greasy but good. The kitchen was hammered with orders so I can see why they didn't have time to wipe clean the dish. The plate, not sure if you could, was greasy. No problem. I have hand sanitizer, which soles 99% of problem in life. The biggest issue here is that they only have one restroom, which handles everyone. So if you are in hurry, you might want to plan the trip well... Ps I ran into a 101 old lady here. She was just helping out rolling utensils into napkins. She was doing and looking so good. It was a busy late morning when we came here. We were warmly greeted, seated, and brought menus. The ordering was not a friendly experience. The item I ordered was supposed to came with a side of hash browns. There were a few strings of hash browns in the omelette mix, but not a side. I understand sometimes it gets busy or items get low, but some communication and an option to an alternative would have been more decent. We were visiting Calistoga mid week, on a rainy and cold day. Just stumbled upon this café out of the blue. Such a fun and friendly little place! I had a mixed salad with sliced chicken breast, sliced apple, chevre,, cranberries, and candied walnuts, over spring greens. Absolutely over-the-top phenomenal and excellent. Delicious and very light dressing.. My lovely wife had a hamburger with hot and crunchy french fries. The burger had fresh lettuce, cheddar cheese, sliced pickles and thick sliced ripe tomatoes.
