A bit of a wait for a Sunday morning but once seated service was efficient and the wait for our food wasn't long. Nice solid place for brunch and some coffee. Glad we stopped by before heading home from Clear Lake.

This would have a 4 or 5 star rating except for one sour note. This seems to be a local favorite based on how busy it was and how familial the staff seemed with the customers. Love the decor and the story behind the name as well. Our food was pretty good, and our waitress was awesome. She was very gregarious and engaging. However, one person in our party ordered a Belgian waffle, and it was thick, uncooked, and inedible. They ended up taking a couple of bites before giving up. When we told the waitress, she said she would take care of it and ended up taking $6 off the bill, while the item was $15. Seemed unfair and performative.

    Hair in food

Totally dissatisfied! I ordered biscuits and gravy with two fried eggs on top. It was the most disgusting BISCUITS and gravy I have ever had in my life. There was ONE biscuit with maybe a few tablespoons of gravy. The eggs were not on top. The eggs were hard like hockey pucks and when I got to the bottom, I found a hair in my food. I am absolutely disgusted with this place right now and will not be going back the best part about it was the hashbrowns until I found the hair. WHEN I ORDER BISCUITS AND GRAVY, I WANT BISCUITS! Not one measly biscuit, and for Christ sake, put some gravy on it. STEP UP YOUR GAME.SARAFORNIA!

I popped in for breakfast. I ordered a deconstructed breakfast burrito (no tortilla) with bacon and a bloody mary. My breakfast and the service were great!

It was my first time here and I enjoyed the food. I had the chicken fried steak and it was delicious. The gravy is out of this world good. Service was good the it was a clean establishment. 5 STARS.

My boyfriend and I stopped here after a long road trip and the food was absolutely amazing. Staff was so kind and welcoming, food came out fast and the building and decor is fantastic. Felt so nostalgic and comforting. I got the Benedict and he got the biscuits and gravy- it was absolutely delicious. Loved the gravy- and the hash browns were hands down probably the best I've ever had. The eggs were fantastic and I loved the bread they used for the toast. Thanks so much for having us! Don't forget to stop by this place!

Based on the things that I have heard about this place, I was heading home from Ukiah to Sacramento, and decided to route through Calistoga just so I could have a late breakfast/early lunch here. I was not disappointed. The place is popular. Parking is street parking only. At 10:30 AM on a Monday, I was lucky enough to get the very last parking spot, on the block where the restaurant is located. When I came in, there were only a couple of tables left. Saying that, if you have to park farther, it's worth the walk, if you have to wait, it's definitely worth the wait. I liked the space. It's a medium sized space. It's a cheerful space, and everybody was friendly. I was served quickly. I decided to go for the vegetarian hash. It also came with goat cheese and pesto. Oh my God, it was a total home run. The veggies were seasoned well, and they were not too firm or not too mushy. They were just right. It sat on a bed of both hashbrowns and home fries, the potatoes were delicious and a perfect texture. The two eggs it came with were perfectly over easy, the goat cheese was tangy, and the pesto was rich. The toast was a very good quality sourdough, and even the coffee was great. For this amazing meal, the price was extremely reasonable, and they even offer a military/veterans discount. I would route my trips home through Calistoga again just to stop here. Heck, I need to stop here and just see more of this pretty little town. Thank you for a great meal.

    Crab Cake Benedict

Cafe Sarafornia is a unique dining experience for anyone visiting Calistoga. The diner's interior is full of artwork depicting California's history. On this visit, I ordered a crab cake benedict. I've been here several times over the years and the service is typically pretty good. Definitely try the "goat cheese" with whatever you order. I'm not a cheese person but this homemade cheese is absolutely worth the visit alone.

Nice service. Nice old school diner. Good food. Cool old place. Good coffee. Place has been up and running for a while and that adds to its old school charm.

    Veggie scramble and luis burrito
    Bansuri P.

This was the perfect place after our hike. We ate the veggie scramble (the carrots were soooo fresh) and we loved how there were potato pieces and hash browns. Eggs were great, and the sourdough toast was nice and fresh. The luis burrito was cheesy with mushrooms, great veggie option! The sauces were also a great condiment. The service was great, very attentive waitress. The ambiance was very cozy, but we sat outside to enjoy the beautiful weather!

Ask the Community - Cafe Sarafornia

How long do they serve breakfast?

Thank you for the question and breakfast is served all day.

Do they serve gluten-free pancakes or gluten-free waffles?

We do not. Both our pancakes and waffles are made with typical flour.

    Do you serve gluten-free bread/toast?

Yes. They do. My wife had it and it was amazing. You wouldn't have thought it was gluten-free it was that good.

I treated myself to a Napa Valley Pacific American Pale Ale, and it was amazing! I would've sipped on those all day if I could! I really enjoyed the Nashville fried chicken sandwich. Sooo good, with just enough spice and a variety of other flavors to make it super tasty. The wings were epic, too! More sweet than spicy, I found the blue cheese a strange complement, at least for my palate. (I usually like that with something spicy.) The support staff, in particular, are awesome, and the patio vibe is amazing. Although I do hope all those water misters don't use too much water. This restaurant is located among Brasswood's other businesses: winery, bakery cafe, and some retail store (that I didn't check out). there's a large inside dining room with interesting decor, and there's an outside seating area in the back as well, which overlooks the courtyard in the middle of all the business (which has a nice water fountain thing in the middle). the middle of courtyard looks like it's set up for weddings. I opted to sit outside since it was a nice day as did most of their other customers at the time. Our server was polite and professional. - fresh mozzarella with toasted bread: I don't know why this isn't listed on the menu since it's the biggest reason to come here. Fresh pulled mozzarella that they cut up tableside and serve on some freshly charred and toasted bread. It's not just nice, fresh mozzarella; they season it properly along with a drizzle of olive oil. So good. - heirloom tomatoes with balsamic vinegar: this is also not on the menu, but it's probably seasonal and based on the availability of good quality tomatoes. delicious. a perfect complement to the mozzarella, really. is it pricey at $12 for a few pieces of tomato? yes, but I'd do it again. - Short Rib Sugo (slow-cooked short ribs, carrot, & onion sofrito, mushrooms, cabernet sauvignon, parmesan, house-made pappardelle pasta): this was a solid dish. basically, what you'd expect. nice and rich. I think they used a touch too much rosemary when seasoning this dish, but not enough to ruin it. - Duck Bolognese (sonoma duck, classic mirepoix & red wine, pecorino romano, house-made pappardelle pasta): this was also delightful. it ate similar to the short rib sugo in that it was this rich, delicious pasta dish. I found this one more to my liking compared to the short rib sugo, but I think they're both fine dishes. - The Brasswood Burger (meat, cheddar cheese, & ketchup only): this was a variation of their standard burger that was ordered for a kid. I had a few bites of it. while the bun was just plain great, the patty itself was dry & overcooked. they didn't ask for the doneness of the meat when we ordered, and perhaps, they just hammered the thing since it was being served to a kid. - French Fries: these were served with the burger. they were very nice. thin and crispy. good fries! - Chocolate Mousse Cake (cranberry sauce, chantilly cream, amaretti cookie): this was very chocolately. almost too chocolatey, but the cranberry sauce and chantilly cream played a nice foil to the richness of the chocolate. I wasn't sure if I'd like the chocolate & cranberry combination, but it worked nicely. A good dessert for chocolate lovers.
