If I could give the Calistoga Depot more than 5 stars, I absolutely would. This is hands down my favorite place in Calistoga, and I tell everyone who visits Napa Valley that this is a must-see destination. Don't just stop by for a meal--plan to spend a few hours exploring because every historic train car has its own unique experience. The amount of creativity, craftsmanship, and attention to detail is incredible. Every space feels thoughtfully designed, and you can tell every decoration and element was placed with intention. I notice something new every time I visit. I honestly can't pick a favorite train car. Casa Obsidiana serves authentic Oaxacan cuisine in one of the most beautifully designed spaces. The Parlor Car is elegant and perfect for champagne, caviar, and fresh oysters. If you're visiting with kids (or just have a sweet tooth), Earth & Sky Chocolates is a must--everything is absolutely delicious. Then there's the First Millionaires' Saloon, which is one of the coolest bars you'll ever walk into. The décor alone is worth the visit, and the distillery adds another unique experience to explore. Every train car has its own personality, making the entire property feel like an adventure rather than just a place to eat. The food is fantastic across the board. My son is obsessed with the wood-fired pizzas, and we've never had a meal we didn't enjoy. Whether you're stopping in for dinner, drinks, dessert, or simply wandering through the train cars, there's something for everyone. What truly makes this place even more special is the people. Every single employee we've encountered has been genuinely warm, welcoming, and kind. Michael always goes out of his way to say hello and make us feel at home, and Pedro is just as friendly and accommodating. You can tell the staff genuinely care about creating a memorable experience, and that hospitality is a huge reason we keep coming back. To make it even better, they have live music every weekend, creating such a fun atmosphere that you'll want to stay for hours. I really wanted to love Calistoga Depot, especially because we were there celebrating a friend's 40th birthday, but unfortunately our experience was extremely disappointing. When we arrived, no one greeted us or directed us where to go. We stood at the bar for quite a while with employees nearby before eventually making our way around to the other side. When someone finally took our order, the employee seemed annoyed and reluctant to help. We took our number and sat ourselves, as the signs instructed. Shortly after we were settled, a server came over and told us we would enjoy our experience more if we sat closer to the music. She took my friend's purse and my water and moved us to another table. From there, things continued to go downhill. Two of our four drinks came out incorrect, the avocado toast was completely inedible, and our pizza arrived cold. We repeatedly had to ask for napkins and plates, and we never received silverware. At that point, we asked to speak with a manager. She said she would make it right, but unfortunately, it felt like she simply wasn't equipped to do much to actually resolve the situation. She removed one drink and the avocado toast from our bill. While we appreciated the gesture, considering the overall experience, it didn't feel like enough to make things right. The manager did offer for us to come back and give Calistoga Depot another try, but unfortunately that isn't really an option for us. We were tourists visiting the area and don't live here, so we won't be back. We were celebrating a special 40th birthday and were really hoping for a fun, memorable dinner. Instead, the lack of service, incorrect drinks, cold food, missing utensils, and overall disorganization left us pretty bummed. We understand that restaurants can have an off night, but this felt like much more than just an off night. This place is so cool and definitely worth a stop when you're in Calistoga. We stopped by for a quick lunch and were immediately led into the distillery, which can only be described as impressive. Boasting high ceilings with exposed wood beams and a beautifully decorated bar area, the space oozes with rustic class and would make a great venue for any party or group gathering. We, however, came in for a sit down lunch with two kids and the small lounge seats and tables were not the best setup for a family meal. Which is the only thing keeping me from giving this place five stars. Similarly, the menu was also catered more to adults, with plenty of vegan options but very few items suitable for kids. That's not a knock on this place, just something to take note of. As a result, we opted to snack on a few items and the caviar and duck fat fries did not disappoint. The espresso martini with pumpkin foam was also excellent. But the really cool part about this place is the vintage train cars, each intricately decorated and offering their own dining/drinking experience. For example, one offers an oyster bar with underwater decor while another features a cowboy bar with real saddles as bar seats. The cleverness in design and attention to detail is impressive and is what makes this place special. I doubt there is a more interesting place to have lunch in Calistoga. This is such a cool location with an interesting variety of food and drinks. The design of the different train cars were so cool and the outdoor and bar areas were also so vibey and fun. I got a salad and a mocktail, and the mocktail was delicious. The drink was on the sweeter side, but that's my preference. The food was good, but a salad is a salad. I did happen to steal some of my friends fries and those were absolutely delicious. All of the staff were super friendly, but they said we could order from anywhere, but a couple places we wanted to sit didn't have the QR codes to order so we ended up having to move, which was fine. STEPH JUDGEMENT: Fun place with unique restaurants and bars. We came here to check out the distillery but didn't realize there was so much other stuff going on! The whole complex was newly renovated, and had a high-end, bougie (read: spendy) feel. There is a sizable "general store" leading you into the distillery, filled with all manner of gift items, along with a food counter and a coffee bar. Through the distillery is a very pleasant large outdoor area, with lots of seating. Next to the distillery building were a series of vintage train cars with different specialties (Mexican, seafood, etc), all with wonderful whimsical decor. We had dinner plans so didn't get anything to eat or drink here, except for a latte at the coffee bar, which was very good. Very well thought-out and beautifully restored--worth a visit! read more

While the band was good, the volume was a little too loud, to the point where it was difficult to have a conversation at the table.That said the space itself is beautiful and offers a decent amount of seating. The service was also a highlight. Our servers checked on us regularly and the food came out quickly.I ordered the Picante pizza, which was tasty and well made. The flavor was good but I did feel that it was quite overpriced for what you get. We're not vegan nor are we vegetarian but we thoroughly enjoyed how dynamic the salad was. The chimichurri had a good kick to it, and it made us feel healthy. Tlayudas: I would describe a tlayuda as a Mexican pizza on a large tortilla. Instead of tomato sauce, bean spread with cheese on top and amazing toppings. We got the mushroom instead of carnitas bc I've been on a mushroom kick, and I'm so happy we did. The salsa that came with it had a good level of spice and flavor too! We've come in a few times now over the past year or so. What they've done with the space is nothing short of remarkable; the design reflects the historical narrative of the area and makes for some interesting artifacts to take in. The wine and beer list is limited compared to the booze they offer and I think could be improved by just making more wine and beer options available. The menu seems to have changed pretty dramatically from our visit yesterday and when we were there this past October. Gone is the cheese and charcuterie option which is too bad because they did a really nice job with it. It seems the pizzas have replaced a number of menu items I recall from my earlier visits and again, it would be an improvement to expand the menu to offer a couple of more sophisticated food options. That said we ordered one of the pizzas on our most recent visit (the salami, jalapeño and smoked mozzarella) and liked it well enough. Service has been attentive and friendly on all our visits. I'd recommend this spot without hesitation to tourists; for me I'll check out the menu before going back again. read more

The Depot seemed to be the best rated eatery in the area, so we decided to check it out for dinner on our one full day in Calistoga. It happened to be happy hour when we went, so we ordered the half dozen oysters, cheese pizza, depot pizza, and duck fat fries. Overall the food was decent. Oysters were tasty, fries were subtly fragrant, and the pizza dough was nicely salted and very chewy. I think the pizzas were missing a little something, and could use a some more salt or tang in the sauce and cheese. Given that it was a weekday it was pretty slow with minimal "vibes" but still a decent place to sit outside and have a meal. I would come back if I'm ever in Calistoga again. We ate in the outdoor courtyard area on a beautiful spring day, and the ambience was perfect. Lots of shade trees, and a very peaceful courtyard away from the street. View included trees and flowers, as well as the railroad cars. Service was attentive and friendly. The food was really good. I had the plant-based vegan crabcake, which I would highly recommend. It had the consistency of a crabcake, but was entirely plant-based. The server recommended it, and I was not disappointed in the choice. I had an extremely unpleasant experience at this place and will never go back, nor recommend it to anyone. I had a simple lunch with one appetizer dish and a salad. It was a weekday afternoon, and the place was remarkably uncrowded, with only two tables occupied besides mine. For some reason, my drink didn't arrive, and I ended up waiting for 25 minutes to get a glass of wine. It's a tourist joint, and I didn't expect superb service, but I was obviously not too happy. Besides, the two dishes I had were just okay, nothing special or good. The problem was that when I got the bill, the waiter kept telling me, "Please sign and just tap." He repeated "Just tap" a few times. Then he quickly left, and I was unsure how to leave a tip, which I had intended to leave 15% because the service was not excellent anyway. Then I realized they automatically charged me 20% of the gratuity. Some trashy food joints often use this crafty auto-tipping system. Please DO NOT DO that if you ever have pride in your business. The building and side areas (including the railroad cars) are filled with so many interesting tourist-eye catching things like a chocolate shop, champagne caviar and oysters, whiskey bars, and many more things. Some night they have live music outdoors. Everything has been curated to give you to Calistoga depot experience and definitely a fun stop. First off what you need to know is the Calistoga Depot has just opened to full capacity for maybe 4 months. There are many components to this property/business like an outdoor beer garden, outdoor stage for entertainment. Next to the main historical building there are Train cars that house a chocolate store, wine/champaign store, Mexican restaurant, Champaign oyster/caviar train. We were told this has been a huge project and process that has just gotten off to full running the last four months or so. We wandered into the front entrance to the Calistoga Depot looking for an oat milk latte. What we found was so unexpected and so much more. You first walk into a modern, spacious, extremely clean and well stocked specialty everything. We were greeted with energetic, friendly hellos and offers of assistance. I walked towards the back wall and saw speciality whiskey bottles and an elevated entrance to a Distillery. BIG SCORE FOR ME. . Not any distillery but an over the top one. Beautiful stills, glassware, custom seating, bars, barrels and elevated piano, and a secret bathroom to name a few. I was greeted at the top of the stairs by John. He explained my options for tasting, food, and entertainment. This was a spirit lovers Lego Land. We chose to sit At the bar and 4 hours later we had experienced such an elevated customer focused adventure with care, concern, professionalism, and an historical education on Calistoga, fabulous and flavorful food, story telling, spirits education and just a plain Awesome time. Kristen our mixologist/pastry chef, and all around bad ass started us off with a Lola whiskey tasting, Aleesa provided thoughtful food suggestions and a history on the project and historical meanings of many items in the distillery and how it came about. Marissa the Spirits Guide educated us through Stories and personal experiences on the history and spirits they serve. This is a must visit. It's truly an adventure if you open yourself up to the knowledge in the room. There is so much to experience, enjoy and be entertained. Definitely the people, history, the architecture of the property and the offerings make a the Calistoga Depot a destination to experience. Just do it you won't be disappointed.
