My family and I visited this town two years in a row for skiing at Gore Mountain. Both times we got breakfast at Café Sarah. While the food remained delicious, there was definitely a mood shift between the first year and the second. In the first year, the staff was very friendly, happy, and even excited to see our two dogs, inviting them in for a treat. The second (this) year, there was a downshift in the atmosphere. The stuff was still nice, but the warm excitement was no longer present. We were also (politely) told to please leave the dogs outside (some members of our group had started to come in with them), as there were people dining indoors. I get it, and it makes sense that they don't want to be penalized and want to maintain a healthy environment for all (plus, last year, there was limited-to-no indoor dining at the café)-- it was just a drastic difference. We definitely would still return, if we come skiing at Gore again. As I said, the food is tasty, and the staff was never anything but polite. Just leave the dogs at home. The shit to energy may have just been from busy/slow season stress, in which case we hope all remains well at Café Sarah!

Wonderful little spot! Great for fresh bread, breakfast/lunch sandwiches and coffee! Right in town and very affordable, easy to stop by and grab something before a hike!

Very cute cafe in North Creek! The coffee was delicious and so were the pastries. Absolutely loved the chocolate zucchini bread and apple pie!! Definitely want to stop by again and try their specialty lattes. Loved that there is outdoor seating too

What could be better than to take a tour at this fabulous chocolate shop about an hour north of Saratoga Springs? We paid for the ghost tour and chocolate making experience ahead of time and it turned out that we were the only ones there, so it was a private event for us. Score!! The ghost stories and "tour" were fun and interesting. FYI- there's not really any walking around during the tour; there's seating in a small section of the house to hear about the different sightings and such. Making the chocolate ghost molds were a lot of fun and buying large quantities of Barkeaters absolutely delicious chocolates were perhaps the best part of the whole experience. If you're interested in trying something different, one of the flavors of chocolate "barks" is a chili lime dark chocolate. I think that one is my absolute favorite with a close second being the espresso dark chocolate. The chili lime starts with the deep chocolate flavor and lime....followed by a perfect buzz of chili. It's dangerously addictive. There are lots of different flavors of truffles (we snagged a box of 24 assorted!) and chocolate bars that are all absolutely wonderful. Super nice staff/owners.... I can see this would be a great place to visit in the fall and closer to Halloween.

Hidden in the back of the Pine Cone Mercantile store, a business that shares both the address and…read morethe phone number, is a scratch bakery that specializes in artisanal breads. The loaves usually sell quickly, so it's best to show up early. My sister clued us in on the place and as we walked by shortly before they were closing at 4 pm on a Saturday in August, there was a tent sign outside showing a variety of breads crossed off and two remaining. Sure enough, there were not only just two flavors left in the display case, there were only two loaves. We purchased the sourdough with cherries and pecans. As we were paying for our purchase another customer came in and bought that last loaf. When we got back to my sister's house we sliced the bread to try it. It was absolutely delicious! I also understand that scones and croissants are made on the premises by the owners. My sister actually reserved some for pickup the following day. (Unfortunately, we will have left for home by then.) I did also spy a case with a variety of cheeses - next time. It's my understanding that this is a husband and wife operation. The husband makes the breads and the wife makes the scones and croissants. The wife is also responsible for the operation of the home furnishing store (Pine Cone Mercantile) that you will walk through to get to the bakery. Go ahead, just try to not be tempted to buy something in that store also as you pass through. Their Facebook page says they are open 10 am - 5 pm Thursday - Monday. However, they were closing at 4 pm the Saturday that we stopped in. I suggest calling them before going.

Have you heard of the little engine that could? This is the tiny but mighty bakery. I've been…read morevisiting Lake Placid for years, but only discovered this bakery this year, mostly by following its patrons who were perambulating around the Main Street with what looked like amazing little scones. Speaking of said scones, they're fantastic. If you're expecting biscuit-line scones, these might be a bit of a disappointment. These are on the bread-ier side of the pastry spectrum, but no less satisfying. We tried the blueberry almond scone and the raspberry white chocolate, and both were scarfed down within minutes. I also love that these aren't sickly sweet. Paired with a latte (for which I highly, highly recommend getting a pump of the hazelnut syrup), Bluesberry Bakery was responsible for supplying some of the best breakfasts we had during our stay in Lake Placid. City folks ought to temper their expectations. This is a small town bakery on a quaint main street, and inside, space is tight. There isn't any seating space, and if two or more groups of customers come in simultaneously, the rest of the queue has to wait outside the door. But things behind the counter are manned by a small, dedicated crew of folks who keep things moving. As with any bakery that makes things fresh, come as soon as the urges hit; when they're out, they're out. I learned this the hard way when I came late afternoon for a scone and found they were sold out.

They also accept Venmo as payment, which is helpful since I think it is cash only otherwise. I would have liked to see some blueberry based items (like I saw online), but must be seasonal since there were a lot of apple-based options (I visited in November). I must have ordered at least 2 dozen pastries for my friends at the cabin we stayed at for the weekend hike. It cost just under $75 so very reasonable priced and everything it devoured. I got to have the cinnamon roll which of course was delicious. I got to try the apple strudel, and the apples were crisp...as in like biting into a fresh apple. Not too sure how they did that but it was very good!
