Slim pickings for really great Mediterranean food in the Tri-cities area but we always saw this place in the corner and decided to give it a go. Glad we didn't read the reviews first because some of it definitely would have worried us. It's an interesting place since the restaurant is really bare, strong smell is incense right away and the menu is kind of all over the place. Overall it's not bad! The pizza was decent, wings weren't too small and the salad was okay. I would order the pizza here again. I forgot to take a picture, but It was "cat-fished" Mediterranean . the food was just OK. It wasn't bad but it wasn't the best either. I ordered chicken shawarma. the chicken was cube size chickens that you pick up in the freezer section to put on pizzas. Not rotisserie chicken you think of when googling mediterranean food. The rice tasted like a really generic bland of saffron. they had a salad that had black olives and feta (tomatoes, and bell peppers, but I pick those off ) on it was the dressing that actually tasted like kraft dressing (cause I have it at home) And the pita bread actually tasted like pita bread you pick up at the grocery store. none of this was freshly made. These were all grocery store-bought items put together and called Mediterranean. Disappointed. The restaurant was empty because it was not considered a restaurant anymore even though you can sit there and eat. The restaurant was cold clearly a sign that it was not used. but perhaps in the daytime there's more people there. it was more of a to go/delivery pizza place. Positive note the Cashier was cordial and business like . He explained how the restaurant used to be a different name it changes quite often, etc. etc.. On Friday nights, the restaurants open till 4 AM major plus While I was sitting there waiting for my order to be cooked delivery driver after delivery driver was leaving and coming back, which tells you this place must have good pizza or chicken wings. Basically this must be a hotspot for the college up the street. I feel like I wasted $29 ordering this food my falafel sandwhich was cold and looked worn out. The grape leaves tastes sour and was supposed to have rice in it but was simply mush. The bean dip I ordered was void of any flavor. I understand, I ordered my food late and after hours but, I would have been better off remaining hungry. This is the worse that it gets. Especially if you know what authentic Mediterranean food tastes like. Cold dry, salty. They don't even use real taziki sauce. They gave me some type of off brand ranch sauce. I called and spoke to the manager and he said he never had a complaint. And it's on me if I didn't like the food. Hummus was ok, lacked some flavor but was fine to eat (toasted pita bread was included). The dolmathes have a hint of lemon and we're tasty. Greek salads are my favorite. Stop by here on a Sunday for the first time. The restaurant has only been open a month so I was very curious to see if there were going to be any growing pains. Ordered the chicken gyro And the better half ordered a chicken and beef plate. Our appetizer consisted of hummus which was absolutely 100% on point. Quick walk from my hotel- as I was on an overnight layover and needed some lunch. I had the falafel, and pesto chicken sandwich. Both were delicious, the falafel was crispy on the outside and nicely flavored. The chicken was juicy and well balanced with the pesto. I subbed the fries for a salad and it was fresh and the dressing very good. The gentleman behind the counter was very nice and got my food ready quickly. Ordered a tiramisu, I'm the most unhappy with this because how as a business are you serving tiramisu that cane straight out of the freezer seemed like? I am very careful about posting reviews for any restaurant right now. Although we are finally emerging from this pandemic most food businesses are still struggling with staffing and other challenges. That being said we still have to hold restaurants accountable to their brand and the customers that patronize them. We were gonna order takeout from a fave place in Buckhead, but I decided to support a business close to home. I love Mediterranean so I was thrilled to find Café Shekel. We ordered the falafel appetizer, chicken pesto gyro, chicken parm, combo beef and chicken gyro and chicken shawarma. The food took a lot longer to prepare than originally estimated, but my husband extended grace and waited patiently. The falafel and the side salads were the best pet of the meal. The meat was so dry it was barely edible. The only positive was that it was well-seasoned, but we used every drop of taziki sauce to make it edible. The spaghetti soaked up all of the sauce so my daughter grabbed some marinara sauce from our pantry and added it. Before posting the review I called to give my feedback and express my disappointment. Natalia (sp?), was very kind and apologetic. I don't regret my decision to support a restaurant on my side of town and I'm not sure I'll go there again. First place I ate after returning from Hawaii, this food was so good. Even as I write this review I am getting hungry for this food again. Such a great smell and taste, it really satisfies and I would get this for any occasion. I love this place! Cafe Shekel is my go-to COVID delivery splurge restaurant when I've had an awful day and need someone to feed me like a baby bird. I always get the Chicken Pasta Alfredo without fail. It's thick, as if it's been baked....none of the runny Alfredo sauce and packaged egg noodles here! Went to Cafe Shekel for take out. I was the only customer but hostess failed to greet me and walked to the back. When she took my order, I asked why she wasn't wearing a mask. Irritated, she replied, "God's got me. I'm trusting in God," and downplayed seriousness of covid-19. I paid for the order, and asked if the food preparer wore a mask. She proudly assured me that he did not. I asked her to ask him to put one on for my order. "I can't make him put on a mask. You can get your money back." I ordered this on Uber eats and I was very disappointed. Like other reviews the meat lacks little to no taste at all. I can tell it was made with no types of spices at all. My favorite thing to order is the Lamb Gyro and the Greek Salad. The Lamb Gyro comes with tasty lamb, rice, toppings (lettuce, onions, tomato), pita bread and ziki sauce. After recently returning from Israel, my wife and I were driving in College Park and saw Cafe Shekel. The name triggered fond memories of falafel and humus. On a whim my wife and I decide to give the place a try. It was lunch time. We entered and discovered an almost empty room filled with sparsely scattered bare tables of assorted sizes accompanied by a motley collection of chairs. The ambiance, or lack there of, reminded me of college dives from my long past youth. But we were here so we decided to give it a go. We both had the vegetarian sampler: falafel, salad, domades, rice, humus and pita wedges. The salad was pretty standard fare. The falafel was good, served with a yogurt dipping sauce. The domades were acceptable. The humus was good, tasted home made. The pita wedges were soft and fresh. I have seen a number of people complain that the humus was bland. Well that's chickpeas for you. If you want flavored humus then you have to add some thing to it. Here they put a small amount of olive oil on top and a sprinkle of paprika on top. Nothing fancy. Over all, I thought the food was satisfactory. Not outstanding but not bad either. If you are in the area and want some Mediterranean food and are not looking for more than bare bones decor it will suffice. read more

The lamb with gyro plate was microwaved, nothing on my plate screamed that these guys are actual preparing Mediterranean food, everything looked and tasted frozen or out of the box. I'm verrry disappointed in the service at this establishment- I ordered through Grub Hub and waited three hours - the woman who answered told me my phone was being delivered after about 1.5 hours after the order - 3 hrs later still no food. I call back and she says "oh! The food is still here on the counter and the order must have been cancelled through grub hub" (which it wasn't I later confirmed) she places me on hold for fifteen minutes never to come back to the phone - I can hear her taking orders and laughing in the background, then I'm hung up on. I call back and she's just like, "I'm sorry you have to call the restaurant or grub hub tomorrow I don't know what happened...I'm sorry." She was talking to me and the person who was ordering at the counter at the same time and It was just really unprofessional, lack of care/concern, tacky and def left a bad taste in my mouth! On a spiritual level when people are that careless, sloppy and unhelpful, do we really want them preparing our food? I've ordered from there twice. The food is actually very good. My issue was with the delivery. The first time I ordered it took longer than expected (about 2 hours). The gyros are fantastic! So good that I wanted them again a few weeks later. Ordered them again on a Sunday through GrubHub. Two hours later I try calling the restaurant, it went directly through to a cell phone's voice mail. I was never able to get anyone on the phone and never received my food. Get it together with deliveries and this place is easily 4 stars. read more
