Hey Yelp! Why did my previous Cafe Society review go? In any case, if you're looking for a local coffee place that offers soul and vibrancy, then you need to come to Cafe Society. I love this local coffee place. They have sweet breads. And quiche. And little sandwiches. And house Made soup of the day. Of course, all kinds of coffees, and teas, and hot chocolate. And if you really need it some sodas and waters. Today's coffee for me was just a simple latte. A delicious one to be sure! I recommend when you order yours that you get it for consumption at Cafe Society, in a nice cup. Many times a month. They also have live music including jazz, and many other things. If you happen to play the piano, or have some sort of instrument you can bring with you, Cafe Society is also amenable to having you come in at the moment and entertain the crowd. There are two pianos on site., A pair of pianists who show up that wants to duel could probably do it. Separate rooms in the cafe. But that would make it all the more enjoyable for people sitting in the middle listening to a piano duel. And with the way the tables are arranged at the current time, access to electrical outlets at more than a couple of tables is available. So Cafe Society makes a great place for your day's adventure. Stop to enjoy a little recharge of both your body, and your devices. Their bathroom is always kept clean. Even to the point of letting your child go in alone. On any given day, there is parking within a reasonable walking distance, if not directly out in front. Cafe Society is located on Main Street in half Moon Bay. It's both easy to find, and easy to miss. So keep your eyes open. But if you do happen to miss it, they are located in the ground floor of the Odd Fellows Hall building. If you're looking up, look for the eyeball staring back at you at the roofline. Somewhat friendly during the daytime. Somewhat spooky at night But always an attention grabber. LOL I totally recommend Cafe Society and half Moon Bay. They've been around for a long time. There are many reasons for it. And those reasons are the motivation for my visits, again and again. read more

A nice coffee shop in downtown HMB where you can grab some food and a caffeine pick me up, sit in one of their cozy tables, and get some food done. I got a cold brew and a hummus and olive salad here. Coffee was good, but I was not a fan of the salad. The hummus made the greens wilted, otherwise the rest of the dish would have been fine. Cool decor inside, the bathroom has stairs going into the ceiling and a door halfway up the wall which makes me wonder what the original purpose of the building was. read more

The newer espresso machine is fast, but if you order STRAIGHT black espresso like me...the quality is sometimes HIGHLY lacking...just saying; I'm picky with simple things. Exploring hmb for coffee cafés and looking up yelp stopped by at this lil cafe on Main Street. Ordered drip coffee with cream- pretty decent and a slice of lemon poppy, much needed sugar after a long hike. The lady at counter warmed the slice and seated outside/ curbside tables on a fine sunny morning. It's apparently a community hub with bohemian ambience with live jazz events often mostly on friday evenings. read more

Been here several times and they never miss-an artisan place with phenomenal coffee cakes in different flavors and the kind of place where you don't have to read the board for ten minutes trying to decipher a world of coded coffee language. I love a place that says "drip coffee--small medium or large." And the best part? It's not over $4. No joke. You can't get better than that. They also have savory things in a case on the far left. Seating inside is awesome on burnished little wood tables and there's a large circular room in the back with red curtain. Fancy. This cafe on Main Street in HMB has a cool vibe and plays jazz tunes in the background. The barista was super friendly. I ordered an Americano with a splash of almond milk and a toasted sesame bagel with sun-dried tomato & chive cream cheese. It wasn't the best Americano I've ever had; it was a bit weak. I enjoyed the music while eating my breakfast, so a definite plus. I'm glad I gave this place a try. Next time I'll ask for two shots of espresso in my drink. read more

Visiting town, my husband and I were walking around on a Monday early afternoon to try to find a spot for a coffee and some lunch. We had grabbed a coffee from a place down the street and it was *horrible* so we kept looking for another place. Stumbled upon Cafe Society and it was exactly what we were looking for! Pretty spacious inside for what I expected - service was fast and friendly. They were decently busy and I felt that we did not have to wait for anything. I got the Roxy - avocado toast with turkey - and it was exactly what I wanted. Simple, easy, and fresh. We'd eaten so much rich food on our trip that I was hoping for a gentle meal and they delivered. My latte was HOT (my favorite) and delicious - almond milk and a little vanilla. Classic indie coffee house. The tomato spinach quiche with freshly cut fruit was 10/10. Texture and flavor were amazing. Perfect place to pause and recharge. Lots of cool art to see and a sign on the wall that says keep phone calls short or step outside please. One of the few places around HMB open for breakfast at 7 AM. read more

Just stumbled upon this little cafe while strolling in downtown Halfmoon Bay. Husband got drip coffee and I had the iced coffee. Simple but strong. Got the carrot cake too, moist, rich with a nice texture to it. Yummers! We came on a busy Sunday late afternoon, it was packed but the line moved pretty quickly and was able to find a seat right away. Outdoor seating also available. We visited Cafe Society on a Sunday (late) afternoon and found it pretty busy. The interior was on the smaller side, with lots of wall decor, including antique signage and old photographs. We placed our to-go order, and I chose the Caprese Sandwich and a slice of Banana Bread. My friends' coffee came out pretty quickly, but the food and pastries took a surprisingly long time. Service was also lukewarm, and the staff seemed a bit stressed by the volume of patrons. We ended up eating at the trailhead before our hike, and all the food was delicious! The basil, pesto, and fresh mozzarella in my sandwich went together perfectly, and I loved the warm ciabatta roll. My friends got the Ham & Brie Sandwich and the Roast Turkey & Swiss Sandwich, and both were great. The Roast Turkey especially had super thick cuts of meat, and was so filling. I loved the Banana Bread too (great texture, not too sweet) and my friend's Streusel was fantastic. Would definitely return to try more! read more

Cozy, unique and delicious lattes. I went in here after a morning hike and got a mocha latte. The barista was very friendly and fast. The thing I enjoyed the most about this spot was the tributes to a local legend, Harpo Marx. It's clear that this coffee shop has a vibrant and loving community presence. It honestly feels like a place from the past, when coffee shops weren't about the gimmicks. The coffee is solid, the atmosphere is comfy and it's a very lovely place to stop for a moment. read more

Cute cafe in the heart of the adorable downtown half moon bay. I stumbled in here for breakfast and loved the art and ambiance. They have a huge selection of pastries and baked goods, while the food menu is a bit more limited. There weren't many vegan/vegetarian options and they weren't able to modify the menu items so I got oatmeal which was just from a container and they added fresh fruit. They do however have a variety of coffee drinks and the dirty chai latte I had was amazing- more vanilla and spicy which I really enjoyed. I work in HMB a day or two every few weeks. I have been here 3 times and it is a cute place, sometimes with live music. The first time, I waited about 5 minutes to be served even though it wasn't busy and the women behind the counter saw me. They were doing something, so I was patient, though I felt one should have come to serve the customer. Finally one of them came over, with no apology for the wait. I just had a latte, which was fine. I returned another day and nobody was behind the counter. Another customer said "She's in the back", so I waited. After about 5-7 minutes two people came out from the back. I wondered why they didn't leave one person to help customers. I got an Americano and it had too much water, so I was disappointed that it was weak. I had used my own cup (I like that they allow this) but I wish she had been able to guage how much water to add. I also had the Avocado toast with egg. It was very good and nicely seasoned, but I though a bit small for $12. Nonetheless, I enjoyed the toast, if not the Americano. The last time I went, there was another customer with a toddler waiting and I thought she had already ordered. I waited more than 5 minutes with the two ladies working behind the counter, looking up and not acknowledging me. Maybe because I'm not a regular? I don't know. I had enough of being ignored, so I didn't say anything and left at that point. As I walked out, I heard the other customer say "Is someone going to take my order?" I have no idea how long she had been waiting, but she was there when I arrived. There are a number of good cafes in HMB, so next time I will go to a different one. I don't like to write a negative review for a small business, but I hope they read this because ignoring customers is not good. read more

I came in around 10:30 this morning and had an experience that honestly felt discriminatory. When I went up to order, the two baristas (one training the other) didn't acknowledge me at all, I was just standing there awkwardly for what felt a couple of minutes without so much as a "I'll be right with you. Eventually they took my order, but when my white friend went up right after me, she was helped more quickly. I also saw a white customer walk in while they were busy, and one of the baristas acknowledged him right away and let him know they'd be with him shortly. The difference in how we were treated was noticeable, and it's hard not to see it as a racial microaggression. As a person of color and indigenous, it's exhausting to deal with this kind of thing over and over, to be ignored until it's convenient, only to watch white customers be acknowledged right away. It may not have been intentional, but the impact is the same: it makes people of color feel unwelcome. I hope the staff takes this seriously and reflects on how their behavior comes across. read more

Unable to rate but want to share my experience . Not much is open early on a Monday in HMB, as I discovered as I took a walk late Sunday evening. But the sign on the door indicated that the shop would be open at 0630 - perfect to get an early start on my journey. I was there a little early, and the sales person arrived at 0630. She breezed past me with barely a response to my cheery greeting, and locked the door once she got inside. So I waited... 15 minutes went by with no movement towards the door. I knocked and was ignored. The salesperson looked at me, so I waved. No response. As I started to leave, I think I heard her shout "we're open at 7" A most unpleasant experience. We didn't order hummus salad. It was supposed to be a salad with dressing and served hummus separately. They poured hummus on top of the salad so we couldn't even use the dressing. Instead of calling the customer's name which they asked during order, they called the name of coffee. I was sure I was not the only one who ordered cappuchino. People had to go there and check to make sure it was theirs, but no way to confirm. Coffee and milk tasted burnt. read more

This is such a great beachy coffee shop. The baristas are always nice and fast with making my drinks for me and my coworker. The food is also really good! This is a great shop to stay and get some work done or get coffee on the go. The shop is very cozy and filled with local art. Love it! read more

This place is full of contradictions. They claim to be a cool Jazz cafe that cares about the environment but then they serve every coffee in a to go cup even though it was very apparent that we are staying. We ordered a bunch of sweets and a savory quiche which were also all packed up in boxes, the sweets push together. When I asked for plates and utensils, the lady behind the counter rolled her eyes at me and gave me dirty ones. For utensils we got this wooden stirrers. There were no napkins. The restroom claims their whole philosophy of being environmental friendly and use less but then they serve everything in plastic. The quiche was very greasy, the cakes extremely sweet and the coffee weak. The staff had an attitude and were super unfriendly. Not cool. read more

My family came here for the toasted ciabatta turkey sandwich, soy latte, and some sweet treats. The food and drinks were nice, but unfortunately, our experience was disrupted by the person washing dishes. He was tossing the dishes loudly, clanging them on top of each other nonstop. super cute cafe in the heart of downtown half moon bay! i stumbled upon this cafe a few years ago and my eyes sparkled as i saw the many homemade pastries in the display case...i recall getting a berry cobbler type bar and ate it while watching the sunset. fast forward a few years, i was walking along main st and stopped in and my eyes paused at the sight of their homemade quiche! there were also pretty looking scones, tarts, and bars, but on that day, my tastebuds wanted something savory, so i went with the tomato spinach quiche...what i didn't know was that it would come with a side of mixed green salad with balsamic dressing...lovely! the quiche was served warm, and it was delicious, i loved the blend of egg, cheese, tomato, spinach on a light and flaky crust. the salad was light and green and fresh, maybe a tad too much dressing, but otherwise very good. service was friendly and warm, like a mom and pop store, which i liked. i also sat outside where i could enjoy fresh air and people watch. as far as price was concerned i paid $14.13, incl tax and tip for this slice of quiche and side salad...i felt it was a bit much for the portion size...i probably would have been more comfortable paying $8-10, but alas inflation and cost of food and service have increased dramatically over the past 1-2 yrs. no dedicated parking, but lots of street parking along main st. read more

I really enjoyed my experience here! Was walking by looking for a warm place to sit down to enjoy some coffee. Had an oat vanilla latte and it had great flavor, so did the americano. Didn't try any of their baked items, but they looked delicious and great portions! While we were sitting down enjoying the drinks, a woman started playing piano in the main lobby room for everyone to enjoy (leave tips if able!). Overall, a great experience. Fabulous coffee shop & restaurant! We stopped in on our way out of town unfortunately, but it will be a must visit on our next trip to the area. Local coffee shop with so much personality; the piano and music posters, paraphernalia and art lends note to a pretty cool evening vibe too. Perfect coffee menu with all the options (almond, soy, syrups etc.) and a huge fresh pastry cabinet. We both opted for a croissant sandwich (one ham and Swiss and one avocado and Swiss). My bf also had a bagel with cream cheese and everything was so fresh! The coffee came in regular mugs which I thought was a nice touch. It was breakfast time so I didn't try any soup, but they had two homemade soups and they smelled AMAZING. Definitely check this place out! read more
