I've know about Cafe Society for some time now but for whatever reason just haven't been! Well that all changed when I started visiting my mom at her work on Mondays and I am so glad I started this little routine! My coffee order is pretty standard but oh my gosh, its so good. I get an iced vanilla latte (yes, even when its cold out) and they make it so well. My mom really enjoys their hot oatmilk sugar free vanilla lattes. When you're there, get the peanut butter cookie with half dipped in chocolate. To die for. The girls I've encountered working there are soooo nice and always so accommodating and nice! The space is relatively small but they really make it work. I cannot wait to go back next Monday for my latte (and probably cookie)! read more

Excellent coffee! My husband and I went to this place last year. I was in town for work and remembered this place. The coffee is better than I remember. I consider myself to be somewhat of a coffee snob. I drink Turkish coffee at home, use a pour over.... I wouldn't consider drinking coffee from 7-11... if you catch my drift. I got a double vanilla latte in a small (12oz) cup. Under $5!!!! In this economy that is virtually unheard of. If you're in HMB and looking for an excellent cup of coffee come here! Super cute cafe in beautiful downtown Half Moon Bay. It was a colder summer day and a warm cup of something sounded perfect. My teen and I ordered our favorite cappucino with whole milk based on the other positive yelp review. Service was efficient but sadly coffee was not a hit. First of all - it was made Latte size - so the ratio of milk to coffee was not correct - barely could detect coffee flavor and sadly was a better hand warmer than beverage. And it was way too hot.... We walked around sipping it hoping it might grow on us as it cooled to human temperature or at least warm us up a bit - but ultimately decided it was really not worth the calories or caffeine so we ended up dumping it. $7 for two capps. :( Quiche and sandwich menu looked good. The one thing I would come here for is the sweets! They have a big collection of lots of baked goods. Cannot speak to how fresh they are, but the pecan bar and the raspberry bar tasted good, although maybe slightly sweeter than I'd like. I sadly give this place a worse rating because of a coffee I got. I got an iced coffee with oat milk-- which is what I normally drink at home-- but this one just tasted absolutely awful. Great coffee. Chill atmosphere, very friendly staff. We came and got coffee while traveling and stopped in ready to post up and get a couple hours of remote work done and this was a perfect spot. Also as a musician myself you always have to love a spot that's got pianos and a weekly jazz night! I may have played a few songs for some unsuspecting patrons before we left for the day. Until yesterday, this had long been a favorite cafe of my mom and I. We had always thought the one worker (pictured) was a bit off-putting, pacing around and glaring at folks, but yesterday he took it to a new level. After my mom purchased two lattes and we took a seat outside around 2pm, I went in to use the restroom. Someone had asked the worker to refill something, and he loudly said, "I just filled it this morning, s***." Later, while I was still sitting outside, my mom went in to use the restroom. She was next in line, and he chose that moment to put up a sign that said only customers could use it, then rudely told her the same. She told him she had purchased two drinks. His response? "Show me." He then tried to turn this into some sort of joke, as she was too shocked to respond. He rambled something about Covid, then said, "I know you. I know you." Meanwhile, I'd been sitting outside, and a stranger asked if he could use one of the chairs at our table. I said sure, he grabbed it, and the same worker immediately pounced upon him about moving the chair, then said, "Maybe you can work here." At this point, my mom had exited, and was relaying her story to me while the man who'd borrowed the chair was relaying his story to his companion. As a small business owner, I would not speak to any customer like this, "joke" like this, or randomly and rudely accuse customers of anything. Everyone in this situation was too polite to react as they probably should have. Now that the owner has passed away, I hope this place doesn't continue to lose its charm. We won't be back. read more

We recently stumbled upon this little gem while walking around Half Moon Bay looking for a little caffeine. The place doesn't look like much from the outside, but it is quaint within. They serve fair trade coffee and have live jazz music on certain nights. The restroom is also a nice little surprise! A little gem on Main Street in Half Moon Bay is a great welcoming coffee shop. They have ample sitting inside and a few chairs and tables outside for the pet owners. The decor and music inside takes you back to the lively old time soft jazz music. The setting is calm and peaceful. Each cup of coffee is individually prepared so there can be a wait if there is a group checking in together. They have a great selection of sweets and food items as well, but we only tried their latte, chai latte and hot teas today and all were great. read more

I came here on a weekday mid morning and it was pretty empty and quiet. The overall vibe of the place was really cute and comfortable. Cleanliness: Upon entering, they had a disinfecting station and a sign that requires you to wear a mask before entering. They had stickers to show where you could line up as well as where you could wait for your order. Staff wore masks and gloves. The place was very clean! Service: Staff were friendly and my order was quickly completed. Drinks: All I got was a regular coffee and it was pretty good. Nothing exceptional, but not terrible either. Half Moon Bay never seems to me like it's in the same space and time dimension as the rest of the Bay Area. Whether you make it there by scaling Highway 92 from San Mateo or come at it hugging the Pacific Coast with singular purpose on Highway 1 from San Francisco, this deliberately picturesque town is your reward for making the journey, though it's certainly not in the same league as Carmel or even Capitola as a destination since you can probably cover it all in an hour. If you do venture to the lifeline artery that is Main Street, there are shops to visit, and so this café exists for that small bite you may want. They also serve $2.50 cups of hot tea, and the Capetown Chai from Numi Nspire is a personal favorite since it combines rooibos leaves with spices for a piquant blend of smoothness (photo: http://bit.ly/2vyJwWs), an ideal antidote for a parched throat after a brisk walk on the Devil's Slide trail up the coast. It would also be the perfect libation for an evening of live jazz which they offer on Friday evenings. There is food served here, small bites like bagels, sandwiches, quiches, pastries, and even empanadas. It's worth a stop. Such a cute Cafe! I visited Cafe Society Monday Jan 4th and had a great experience. The young lady working greeted me right away. She was working alone and had good time management. I ordered a mocha and a bagel with cream cheese. The mocha and bagel were yummy! The place was cleared out and was clearly marked for social distancing. They also only allow 3 guests at a time, would definitely recommend only sending one person from your party into order. This place takes the COVID precautions seriously which is really lovely to see. read more

Holy shit the hot tea / coffee is HOT here! I wish I took a picture but I needed to use 5 sleeves on mine just to be able to hold it. I don't think I was able to enjoy it until a half hour later. That's a first for me - make sure you ask the barista to COOL IT DOWN. The taste for both was ok. Also FYI, while it's a smaller shop, they allowed customers to hang around inside without masks while drinking. If that makes you uncomfortable would not recommend here.
