Looking at all these reviews i was SO HYPE to come to this place and It was such a let down... let me explain my experience so you can judge for yourself::: We (my mother FROM ITALY and I) find a reserved cafe spot in the back. Cool start..... all downhill from there.... We go around the front and there are a bunch of dudes chain-smoking... Which, I get it, people smoke its a free country... but right in front of a place where people are trying to eat?? kinda yuck. ANYWAYS We decide to ignore the yuck because maybe inside is different?! Go to open the door and all the glass is broken... so the cigarette smoke is wafting INTO the cafe which is FILLED WITH MEN WATCHING A HOCKEY GAME (like its an Italian bar at least soccer come on). And ok maybe thats on me .. cafe sportivo translates to sports bar but a) it was PACKED and b) NO ONE MOVED so my mom and i couldn't reach the bar to order a drink or food even if we wanted to!!! We STILL Try to give it a chance and shove our way past all the giant men to look at the food. There was like one muffin and one croissant. At that point with nowhere to even stand and no one even checking in with us to see if we wanted we left. My mom said "che horrore" which i don't think you need a translator to understand. Soooooooooo maybe the cafe has good cappuccini and cornetti but I'll never know cause the vibes were NOT IT. My husband loves coming to this small coffee shop off Atlantic Blvd. in the heart of Pompano Beach. It's filled with local Italians (mostly men) who are very passionate (they are not fighting as some believe...LOL). They speak mostly Italian here but you can find English speakers. Peter behind the counter is really nice and you can tell a lot of locals frequent the place. They have really good coffee and it's really strong. We love coming here for the coffee and the atmosphere. It's like you are in Italy on a sunny morning. They serve croissants and I have seen some eggs/bacon/toast being cooked but there isn't really a menu. You just have to ask. Very homey Italian vibe. CASH ONLY! read more

I recently visited this café and had a very disappointing experience. The service was incredibly slow with our order taking over 30 minutes to arrive despite not being busy. The counter lady was extremely rude. It was cold and lacked flavor. The staff seemed uninterested and snobby which only added to the frustration. overall stay away!! *Cash Only!* Reading fellow Yelpers reviews is what made me bookmark this spot, and I'm sure glad I did! Before I even walked in the door, I knew we were at a good place. Locals (likely of the Italian-American variety) were sitting at a couple of small outdoor tables playing cards, smoking cigars, and gossiping. Inside was another game of cards as well as a poker game in the back room (that I could only get a glimpse of). People were friendly and made small-talk. We each ordered a single shot of espresso by the counter and they came out in the appropriate-sized servings/cups. I added just a touch of sugar and took my first taste. Yes! So good! Not a hint of bitterness. Smooth. Wonderful. So wonderful, that we went back the next day before going to the airport. The only thing that really surprised us was that the guy running the place didn't know what an affogatto was! He was really interested though so perhaps he will soon add this to his offerings. Cafe Sportivo is meant to be a rather simple café, and though some food such as Italian sandwiches are served, it certainly isn't a restaurant. It's more of a coffee café, very, very Italian, serving up a cup of the best tasting cappuccino you can find. It's also sort of a gathering place, mostly for older ethnic Italians. While here, I heard plenty of Italian being spoken and those speaking English all did so with rather distinctive Jersey like accents. Matter of fact the rather loud and somewhat annoying noise from the back room sounded as if there might be a gathering of the Soprono family taking place. Because of the use of a lot of four letter words, most beginning with the letter "F," especially from coming out of the mouths of those playing cards, it might be a good idea for people with children or those of tender ears to avoid. While there I had a cup of cappuccino and an Italian sandwich. The cappuccino was one of the very best and the Italian sandwich, though not heaping in quantity, contained some tasty Italian cold cuts of meat and cheeses properly put to together in what was a decent Italian roll. Though I really can say I'm a fan of the place, I'm going Four Stars on it because for what it is, a small somewhat of a hole in the type of place primarily a local hang and coffee café, not all that bad; especially their cappuccinos. read more

This cafe is reminiscent of the cafes I frequented as a child in Windsor Little Italy. It's simple, clean, very European and they make a damn good latte. Well this is one place We'll NEVER visit! If they wanted to attract business I would assume they'd be more cordial. There is NO signage ANYWHERE indicating that parking is Only for his restaurant. There are three adjacent restaurants in this strip mall. Five of the owners friends watched as we parked and even greeted us as we passed. We were almost finished eating in the adjacent restaurant when the fireball angry owner came in demanding we move our car from his space and kept yelling about the sign. There is no sign.
