The Cezanne breakfast was alright. The bread was soggy and the spinach was slimy. The bacon was very crispy though. The classic breakfast eggs were quite rubbery. The interior is small and humble. Cafe Talya is a hidden gem. The service was great... the coffee mug stayed full and the breakfast was quick and delicious. The owner seemed to be running the place by himself taking order and cooking up on the grill. The place was cozy and different to a lot of other breakfast spots. Definitely worth the stop. read more

I've eaten here a couple of times over the years and I am always happy with the food and service. The menu has all of the usual diner fare, and a few surprises like the Turkish breakfast. My mushroom and cheddar omelette was very good, including the potatoes; I particularly like that they automatically serve jam with toast. Visited here for the first time today and wow was I impressed. I was greeted by two of the staff who were friendly and knew their customers. Cafe Talya is a small and cozy spot; it's the hospitality plus the delicious menu items that'll keep you coming back! My friend ordered the french toast and I ordered the vegetarian omelet which came with breakfast potatoes and toast. I also ordered a cup of freshly squeezed orange juice as I always have too! Our food came out pretty quick and the portions? Huge for the price! My omelet was cooked to perfection and the breakfast potatoes were crispy. My friend loved her french toast as it came with fruit and whipped cream. I love spots like this and I can't believe I didn't visit sooner. They love their customers and greet each one with a smile. My husband and son have been to Cafe Talya a few times since after hockey practice at Bayonne HS and raved each time about it. So finally I got to sit down to this most excellent food for myself this past weekend. I ordered the original French toast with strawberries and it did not disappoint! So light with just the right touch of cinnamon. Bacon I ordered was crisp and delicious, not greasy at all. My son devoured two orders of silver dollar pancakes and my husband enjoyed his burger and fries. The cafe is small but cozy and inviting. The servers are so friendly and accommodating. The owners Rebecca and her husband who is the chef the experience were great. Bayonne is a simple blue collar town so there is nothing fancy about the restaurant. What was important was the food and the service and that was AWESOME!!!! You cannot teach how to be nice to people and everyone that works there show they care. It's genuine, real and they have regulars that eat there daily. The prices are very fair and if you stick to the menu you can have a great breakfast for under $10! We had a few different dishes which started with the French Toast. This is either grilled or pan fried and was fantastic. I had the classic breakfast and substituted egg whites for the sunny side up eggs. It includes toast, breakfast potatoes, and smoked beef sausage. We also had the Cezanne breakfast which had sunny side eggs, breakfast potatoes, smoked beef sausage and a baguette. They will accommodate you by allowing you to substitute certain items for others if they can.I saw other people ordering the pancakes and they looked great as well. All the dishes have a nice presentation and as the kitchen is right in your face you can see the care and detail the chef puts into even a simple order of pancakes which is about $6. They have breakfast sandwiches and also serve lunch. The size of all the portions are very fair and should satisfy anyone. I would highly recommend this restaurant and I left there with a great feeling for the rest of my day. If I'm near Bayonne I will definitely go back. read more

on my way to Costco for some cheaper gas prices, i wanted to find a place that served no-frills kind of breakfast foods. i didn't need $22 chicken and waffles. hell no. i found this place on Yelp- mapped it out and voila! nearby a Costco. off the bat, the luncheonette greeted us with laughs, fun talks and the older gentlemen sitting at the counter talking sh!t to their grandkids made me smile a great deal. again, no-frills, the menu is very straight forward and uncomplicated. i ordered a Turkish coffee along with a breakfast platter. i love that it's so cozy that you can hear the cooks' joking around with each other and the owner who takes the orders couldn't be more accommodating and funny. def a neighborhood spot. read more

I'm hesitant to call this modern American diner in Bayonne out as a must visit. It is a small place with patient gracious service that can hold about 15 patrons at most. But good food done well is increasingly becoming a rarity. Be assured, this is fantastic food at reasonable prices. Pancakes - $6.95. What? Affordable. 3 cakey, spongey pancakes perfect for sopping up maple syrup and butter. They have a texture to them that is structured and grippy, full of bite. Singing high praises for these and I'm not, *I'm not* a person who typically orders pancakes. Definitely will be coming back for these. Pure maple syrup is $2 extra and is served in a glass maple leaf bottle. Ambiance - I hear the butter spatter from pans in my seat at the bar. The distinct sound of a plug-in radio, cracking and popping. Unsweetened ice tea is served ceremoniously with a spoon and jug of sugar. These are things we don't see anymore. Harmoniously, the washed out light green provides a backdrop. To come have breakfast at Cafe Talya is to take a step back in time to the 1970's. Seriously. I don't know enough about the backstory, but I'll be back. As long as no one finds out about this place and tries to speed up time. Highly recommend. read more

Plus the waitresses are very friendly and attentive and make sure to get orders moving. I've ordered the Turkish breakfast for both of my visits here...I can't stay away! You get two runny sunny side up eggs, sausage, and potatoes. Then a separate plate with two large pieces of toasted bread along with several small samples of walnuts, dried fruit, cheese, jams, olives, tomatoes, and butter. Everything is so flavorful and ridiculously inexpensive. During this particular visit my friend ordered the french toast which is deep fried and melt in your mouth delicious. Great little place, lots of love behind the counter. Waiting for your Turkish coffee to be made in the little copper pot on the stove is torture! It's not something I crave everyday, but when you want a sweet jolt it fits the bill. The blueberry pancakes are terrific, lots of fresh vegetables (tons of ripe, red peppers) in the Western omelet, the fresh oj is great. Only quibble I have is that the home fries are deep fried, not done on a flat top. I look forward to having some of the ethnic Turkish food going forward. Vibe: so friendly and lovely service:) we met julica and she's so sweet. Our waitress name was also very kind and patient. Food: I got their pumpkin pancake special and potato omelette with Turkish sausage and thick white toast with butter. The pumpkin had really great texture and was fluffy and smells Devine. The omelette was mediocre and toast (soft inside) was decent with the butter too. My friend got the tuna melt and that sounds bomb! The breakfast classic with fruit looked good too :) We got our food within 15 min, and even though yelp says they close at 3, they didn't kick us out hahah! Interior; they made it fit our group of 7 which was very nice. They also have seats along the place as well. Price: I shared with my friend the pancake + omelette and paid 11.45$ including tip and tax ! The restroom was clean and just walk up a bit to find it.
