My family was on a long road trip, and needed to stop somewhere from lunch. We wanted the kids (10-13) to be able to burn a little steam so we wanted to stay away from fast food. We got everything we wanted from Cafe the Lodge. Great and healthy food, a fantastic artful vibe, and a tranquil patio with a Koi pond and Free Little Library at the bottom. The service is what really did it though. My wife had some recent dental surgery and they were super accommodating to make sure that she could have something soft for her mouth. 5/5, do recommend. read more

I came for the food (specifically lunch) and what got was not only a good meal but I helped support a business that helps to provide opportunities for those with mental health challenges in the Northampton County. The restaurant is clean and welcoming and after grabbing a menu, my dining companions and I placed our order with a lovely employee whom was all to happy to make sure we got what we wanted. After we paid, we moved to a small, bright and airy dining room whose walls were adorned with people whom did not let mental challenges stop them from doing great things. In no time our meals were brought out to us (turkey sandwich and a mixed salad for myself). The food was fresh and delicious, especially the salad which included mixed greens, roasted peppers and some lovely cherry tomatoes. My sandwich also came with a freshly prepared side - which on the day we dined was a pasta salad. It was a little over dressed but I used it to dip my turkey sandwich in. I had no idea before arriving the great work that Cafe The Lodge does in the community. It's a great way to reduce the stigma of mental illness and provide vocational skills to its employees. This is the spot for a coffee and a light snack/lunch! The Italian wedding soup was so delicious; I'd say it's one of the best I've ever had. Their lattes are made perfectly! The coffee is good quality and it is prepared just at the right temperature to bring out the natral sweetness in the whole milk. The overall mood and ambiance is delightful when you walk in and all the staff are pleasant. I also love the fact that the prices are half of those at Starbucks and get to support a local business. Stopped here for lunch after touring Lehigh. Everything sounded so good, I had a hard time deciding what to order. I ended up getting the Greek wrap with chips (they accidentally gave me macaroni salad, which I didn't mind) and it was super tasty. The chicken was seasoned well, I liked the roasted red peppers, and the balsamic vinegar dressing was good. This is one of the best wraps I've had, and it was fresh! Cafe the Lodge was a random stop on our road trip and it's one of those places that makes you so so thankful to have made a stop. They make an assortment of salads, sandwiches & paninis, breakfast stuffs, pastries, and cafe-type drinks (coffees, lattes, espresso). The folks at Cafe the Lodge put together a mean panini..we should know since between the 5 of us, 4 ordered paninis. Being a voracious meat eater, I seldom order a meal without it, but took a chance on the veggie panini (fresh mozzarella, tomato, pesto, balsamic glaze on Portuguese roll). The last coworker ordered a homemade quiche (not the sit under the lamp kind of quiche) and a latte (which came out in a gigantic mug). We didn't realize until the end of the meal that this cafe is part of an organization that provides housing, jobs, and support for adults with mental illnesses. Cafe the Lodge is such a homely place to eat and just chill. I came here with my cousin for breakfast and tried the Cuban Sandwich panini and it was amazinggg~~ My sandwich came with cole slaw. The cole slaw here is not the regular plain cole slaw that I'm used to. This had a slight spicyness to it that tasted like a chipotle like sauce. Mind you, these paninis aren't small like the ones you get at the Starbucks cafe. They're like twice the size! The entire meal was so filling that I finished the other half of the panini for lunch. The atmosphere and service here is excellent! They bring the food to you and the coffees are in a decent-sized mug. My cousin got the Breakfast Roll which was just as good. For close to $4 for a large panini, I'd say it was a good deal. My entire meal with the Cuban sandwich and a caffee latte came to around $10 which is a lot cheaper than other places. Last but not least, I love how this place supports adults with mental illnesses. Great food, atmosphere, and service all for a great cause! I really try to find something positive about every establishment I patronize, and I certainly don't like to "badmouth" establishments in the city I call home. I especially don't like to when the establishment has as noble of a cause as helping people with mental illnesses. I give this Cafe lots of credit for being involved with a cause so noble. With all that said, I feel something has to be said about the paltry level of service I received. This was my first visit, and probably my last. Upon walking in the door, I was amazed by how new and clean-looking everything was - and this is the only reason why the Cafe earned the two stars in this review. Upon walking in the door, not one person greeted me, even though there were at least 3 employees behind the counter in my view. I proceeded to walk up to the counter, grab a menu, and start looking at what I wanted for lunch. Even while doing this, the counter person stood with her back turned to me the entire time. I made my decision, put the menu down, at this point she turned around, and just stared at me. She did not even say hello. I had a simple order, a salad and a sandwich, called a "Pick Two". Instead of asking me which two options I wanted (soup, salad, sandwich) in a polite manner, I was immediately asked what type of soup I wanted. I did not want soup, only a salad and sandwich, so not sure why there was this initial miscommunication. Once I stated that I wanted a salad and sandwich, all I got was a simple "okay" with another blank stare. It took about 4 minutes to enter a one-dish order and complete payment. Unsure if the register system is new or not, but the counter employee had absolutely no knowledge of how to properly use it. Please have training for your employees - Clover offers it on their POS systems. I could have rung out the food faster myself. She even asked if I wanted a receipt, I said no, then proceeded to hand me one anyway five seconds later. I watched her do the same to the next gentleman in line. I ordered to-go but waited in their lobby area. The cook was working hard getting orders out, and started immediately working on my order - so things were now looking up. The gentleman behind me suffered through the long ordering & checkout process as well, then I watched as the cook put his dish he ordered in the microwave - a slice of a breakfast quiche. Nothing wrong there until I watched that same counter person remove the quiche slice from the microwave, slide it off the plate with her bare hands, then place the now-dirty plate back in the microwave. Seriously?! Nothing drives me more insane when restaurants do not take sanitation seriously! Once I got my food (the food wait was reasonable), I got a "here you go" from the counter person, then walked out with my food. Upon getting back home, my sandwich was just okay, and they forgot the dressing on my salad. Two items in the whole order, and they messed up one. From my point of view, I simply cannot understand all the positive reviews of this place. Maybe everyone was just having a busy/bad day, but there were quite a few strikes I witnessed within my 10-15 minutes there. Everything I have had their has been delicious, from the Cuban, other sandwiches, salads, soup, cookies and homemade teas.
