I got an espresso and an oat milk macchiato. Both were excellent. The espresso was perfectly executed -- smooth, creamy, not bitter or burnt, and had great flavor coming through. I tasted notes of chocolate and a mild apple-like acidity -- sweet and warm, not sharp. 5/5 The macchiato had a little more milk than expected, but the oat milk complemented the espresso really well. 4.5/5 I'll definitely be back. Don't let the name Xochi, The Dog Cafe, mislead you like it did for us! We thought it was an ultra-dog-friendly cafe, but it's not. I got together with my coworker and wanted to bring my pup. Finding a spot was a bit tricky initially, but he recommended we check out Xochi. We arrived at the cafe on a Sunday afternoon. There was a sign saying no dogs allowed inside due to health and safety regulations (I understand) and how the cafe is named after their dog. My coworker ordered first and got us a table on their outdoor patio. The patio is dog-friendly and pleasant--vast, lush, and quaint. There are several tables spaced out to enjoy your drinks. The inside is minimalistic and roomy, with about three to four tables where you can work. We came on an off day, and they closed early. As a result, service seemed rushed, and we felt they wanted us to leave. Their Horchata Latte enticed me with Oat Milk. For the amount I paid, I felt like the quality and quantity didn't match. There was no horchata flavor, and it was super light on cinnamon. I don't think I'd come back to get this. This is a nice neighborhood coffee spot for those living in East Oakland. For others, especially paw-rents, this is just a PSA--it's dog-friendly outside! Parking is available in the neighborhood, with the shop on the corner of E 21st Street. read more

Parking is surprisingly open more often than not, however, I, do not like this place and I wonder if that's why parking is often available.. The neighborhood coffee shop is nice, the poster board is a nice community touch and especially all the nookish seating outside. But the feel and customer service is OFF. I've tried here a few times... you're often never acknowledged until it's time to order ($ - and sometimes it's NOT that busy!) Nice little cafe in a quiet neighborhood. Came here on a Wednesday morning with my family and it was quite busy but plenty of street parking available. There were a few dogs chilling outside of the cafe. The inside was very cozy with a few tables and chairs. We ate at the backyard area as it was more spacious with more bigger tables and chairs. There was a good selections of food and drinks on the menu. I ordered at the cashier inside and the staff brought the food and drinks out not too long after. I got the mushroom empanada, quiche, twice baked almond croissant, matcha latte and horchata latte. The empanada and baked goods were all delicious. The matcha latte came out unsweetened so note to order it sweetened if you want it sweet. The horchata latte was creamy and smooth. I could taste that it was made with actual horchata and not just flavored syrup. It had a nice cinnamon spiced note but it was a bit on the sweeter side. Really enjoyed our time here and Cumba loved seeing all the furry friends too! read more

This is a neighborhood joint to the t. Located in a beautiful little neighborhood, Xochi is that corner coffee shop. You know the one, that has all their regulars sitting outside chatting with each other, welcoming patrons, as their dogs putter around. The UPS guy is grabbing a coffee, and the back patio is humming with locals working. Street parking was fairly easy on a busy Friday morning. The coffee is solid and they sell Starter bakery pastries and Javi's empanadas. The empanadas are a bit pricey for their size, but they were delicious. Overall, vibes and the community feels makes this a no brainer 5 stars. I wish this type of spot was in my 'hood! read more

This place was pretty mediocre. I really love the neighborhood location and the garden seating in the back is also quite lovely. My friend and I got there about noon on a Saturday. We both wanted lattes and toast. They were totally out of bread and quiche by noon! That means at least 6 of their offerings were not available (and their menu is small). Employees were not overly engaging or friendly. I thought the lattes were okay, but nothing spectacular, but they were pretty. I do like coffee places that spend time crafting a pretty drink. :) Unfortunately, the designs and the outdoor seating are not enough to make me want to come again. read more

This is the spot! Xochi is my go to for coffee and matcha. We stop by at least once a week to grab some coffee beans as well. They serve starter bakery pastries and have their own sandwiches as well as empanadas. If you want an actual matcha - hit this place up, it's made properly. Sometimes they have a strawberry syrup to add to it and it's by far the best strawberry matcha I've had. The owners are kind and fully invested in making this a spot for the community. It's got a great outdoor patio to sit in as well. Good vibes all around. One time while sitting outside I heard a couple complain about the dogs that were there. Don't be that couple.
