I wish I could give this place 6 stars. This cafe, as others have said is a hidden gem in the Pill Hill neighborhood. The food, drinks, and service are all excellent. They have a number of creative coffee drinks featuring Middle Eastern/Persian/Turkish flavors such as rose, cardomom, and ginger. These unique flavors make for tasty coffee treats. The pastries and food (light, healthy fare) are all excellent and fresh. If you're looking for a spot with simple, fresh food, tasty drinks and a calming community atmosphere reminiscent of a European cafe please check this place out any time you're in the area. We were trying to go to Olivia Coffee & Flower but the line was too long so walked around the corner and popped into Petit Cafe. And so glad we did!! The staff is incredibly friendly - exemplars of great customer service, especially Valley/Vali (I'm sure I'm spelling that wrong but really want to recognize his exceptional thoughtfulness). Get the buttermilk biscuit sandwich, the biscuits are homemade and delicious. The chocolate chip cookie is equally great. Sweet little cafe open on a holiday! A friend and I were planning on checking out a hip cafe until we saw the long line. We beelined for this cafe instead, and what a great find! The service staff was helpful - patiently explained to us about their specialty drinks, even gave me a taste of the ube in the ube drink. We got the beehive and ube drink, and scored a table outdoors. The sun was sunny, the coffee was great, not over-powering and didn't taste powdered. The service staff even checked up on us. I had an appointment at Sutter Health and popped in here for lunch. I enjoyed everything about my visit. The cafe has lots of natural light. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. I ordered their omelette, which comes with tomatoes and spinach, and I added mushrooms and avocado. Delicious! The mushrooms were oyster mushrooms, which I'm not a big fan of, but it still tasted great. It also comes with a side salad. I was very sad about my currently being in low carb mode as their pastries looked amazing. In addition to looking so tasty they were a bit larger than usual. Homemade, I'm guessing. I have been going to petite Café on Pill Hill for at least 20 years when I have an appt close by. They always have a couple specials that are really special. Today I had the breakfast sandwich on a biscuit. The biscuit was out of this world: a real wholesome baking powder biscuit. The ingredients although simple coalesced to form a mighty breakfast sandwich: eggs, sautéed onions, avocado. Home fries and green salad on the side with a sweet balsamic dressing. I want to thank Petit Cafe for continuing to serve good food. I look forward to eating there every time. read more

Food is delicious and the service is incredible! I got the Rose Cardamom Latte and by partner got the Sandman Latte--both tasted amazing and weren't too sweet. Apparently they make all their syrups in house. We also got the biscuit breakfast sandwich and I highly recommend it. The sandwich also comes with a side of potatoes, a spring mix salad, and a really yummy spicy sauce on the side. The staff is incredibly friendly, and the place is very clean and put together. Cute coffee spot we came across on our way to another cafe and decided to change plans. Glad we did. Extremely cute, staff were amazing, engaged w my toddler and gave her little macaroon she was over the moon and patiently waited for mamas order. There is indoor and outdoor seating. We only got a some coffees and pastries but the breakfasts we saw coming out looked delicious! Definitely would love to come back and try them out. Visit #1: Although the Avocado Toast was decent. I don't think I would be back anytime soon. It was very basic and needed salt and pepper. Visit #2: This was the most confusing meal I've ever had.. My friend and I ordered a grilled cheese sandwich that was supposed to come with grilled onion. She got the "kids" version where it was only a sandwich and no salad. I got the regular version with a salad. The salad costed like $5 more. When we received our order it was SO CONFUSING and awful. Our sandwiches had no onions and both of us got a grilled cheese sandwich that wasn't even grilled or toasted. It was plain and the cheese was barely melted well. For me the salad was very small and had no dressing... There was only a small cup of guacamole... I had no idea what to do at this point.. we had already left.. It just didn't taste well at all to me. It was mushy and didn't have much flavor. I wasn't satisfied. The potatoes were kind of dry too. This is just a delightful little cafe. If I lived nearby, I'd totally make this my regular spot. The coffee is great, the food is delicious and reasonably priced and the service is kind and sweet. Very nice café in Oakland with a small seating area. I ordered the egg biscuit which is home made and I loved it. Their specialty lattes are good as well. The staff is very friendly and nice, however I experienced a negative situation with an irresponsible and rude couple bringing in their untrained dogs and one of their dogs sniffed my food at the table, almost licking it. I've pretty much had it with dog owners the bay area - they are extremely entitled and rude and expect everyone else to deal with their pets even when it's not allowed. Dogs are not allowed in food establishments and this place is also very small - I was disappointed and upset that the owners did not say anything to the couple despite my obvious negative reaction to this. These dogs weren't even marked as service animals. read more

What a beautiful ambience, beautiful and relaxing chilling area. Came here for tea and macaroon, and sat down to charge my phone. However after a few minutes some guy walked in asking for free coffee, the staff greeted him with respect and offered a free latte and free croissant. Let's start off with the service when you walk in it is an extremely welcoming environment. I was promptly greeted by two people who were close to the register. I immediately started placing my order at the computer and an employee offered just to do it for me at the register. I had overheard that they make their own vanilla syrup so I decided that that was a must try. I went with a chai with both lavender and vanilla syrup added to it, and it definitely lived up to what I was hoping it would be. It wasn't too sweet and had the faint floral taste of lavender with a slight earthy sweetness of vanilla. I also tried a piece of baklava. I highly recommend both the chai and the baklava. read more

Fast forward a few years and I'm back in the neighborhood when my partner has medical appointments near by or I get blood draws from the local blood sucker (Quest). Lately, get my coffee and hang out at the counter. All good. I am sort of a one trick pony when it comes to coffee outside in the world, black. Pretty easy. So it's a coffee shop that does baked flour stuff and other food which all looks good but lately it's just coffee. One great thing is they encourage cash so I'm bumping them to 4 stars. This is a welcome lunch destination in a somewhat barren stretch of office buildings on Bay Farm Island, with a lot of potential. The kitchen is housed in a converted shipping container, and the dining area consists of two large semi-enclosed tents and two sections of outdoor tables. Unfortunately, there are quite a few problems with this setup. In the tent that is closer to the road, the tables are arranged in two sections - one is alongside the plastic "windows" so diners broil in the too-bright sun, and the shady side of the tent does not have enough seating. The other tent feels like it's set up for a wedding or corporate event, with tables for large parties (we were told we could not sit there because the tables were reserved, but no one ever came to sit there while we ate our whole lunch). The fully outdoor tables are often too sunny or windy/cold to be pleasant, and the kitchen staff plays loud music over the speakers that are right over the tables, so it is unpleasant to sit there. The management should really reconsider some of the layout choices and pay attention to the diners' comfort - for a space this large, with four different seating areas, there are only a couple of tables that are pleasant to sit at (and since it is only open for lunch, you know where the sun will be and can make better choices about how to arrange the seating). The servers are sweet but somewhat clueless, and have not been trained well - I would bet their only experience before this is in fast casual, if that. So much potential if management decided to pay more attention to the dining experience! read more

This review is SOLELY based on the Vanilla Bean Matcha. While it is a super cute and quaint cafe, I am highly disappointed regarding the Vanilla Bean Matcha latte. In short, the latte tasted like vanilla milk...If you are a matcha connoisseur, this is not the cafe for you. My advice to management would be either to use a better quality matcha or maybe to add a higher concentration, especially at the price it costs (the price of mines may have been skewed due to oat milk). read more

This is a cute little coffee shop near Alta Bates. We were walking around, looking for a place to get a quick bite for lunch and stumbled across this place. The man working the counter and espresso machines was so friendly and genuine. We ended up ordering the blue calm iced latte, which was beautiful although a bit bland. Sort of taste like almond milk with a little vanilla. The three of us ordered different breakfast items, the bagel platter, the breakfast biscuit sandwich, and the avocado toast. Unfortunately, all of these items were a bit mediocre. I believe this was mostly due to the fact that it was winter, and there was very little fresh vegetables that could be added to the dishes.
