I think this place has a lot of potential. The inside is very well planned out with extra room upstairs. However when we placed our orders for bagel sandwiches and a espresso drinks. We paid just under $30 bucks. Nothing fancy or extra but the price didn't match the cost by any means. Our food was brought out. It was mediocre. After we were fully done with our food we finally got our drinks. Only to have one of them made completely wrong. If you offer a service or drink you don't know how to make please just don't offer it. Especially at the prices your asking. We did politely ask for it to be made correctly only to wait for another 15 mins. Definitely needs more staff. One to cook, one to make drinks and one to take orders. read more

There is a good amount of indoor and outdoor space, it's comfortable, etc. It is not a good place to expect to be able to pop in and order something if you don't have time to hang out. In my neighborhood & recommended by my co-worker, Joyce D. I wanted something light and healthy for lunch since I was going out for a big dinner meal. They have a small parking space for 3 cars on the side of the building. It was about 130p so not very busy, I was greeted by John his wife who were very friendly and welcoming. He liked my 'Howard's Pub' T-shirt from Ocracoke and made a comment to his wife. I told him I was headed there in a few weeks to do some fishing. He said he & his wife go there a lot and were overdue for a trip. I had the smoked salmon salad and the Jasmine tea. It was a great meal and light and refreshing and just what I was wanting. He welcome me to the neighborhood and we talked about the business being new. I told him it was recommended and he seemed pleased that he was getting recommendations. The bf just moved to the Southside so I am taking this as the foodie opportunity it is and exploring all the things the area has to offer. My first stop was lunch at Cafe Zata. We ran in for a quick pickup order but the atmosphere was very inviting and would definitely welcome the chance to hang out at the patio over a glass of wine. I ordered the turkey bacon sandwich and the bf got the roast beef. Both were ample sized portions and yummy. The ingredients were super fresh and quality. But those four stars are really about those hand made chips. Anyone that follows my reviews knows that I have an obsession with all things fried potato. Zara's homemade chips are these thinly sliced lengths of potato fried to absolute perfection. Easily the best chips I've ever had. I could eat them everyday! Overall: The way I was treated really soured me to anything else they had to offer Service: I went to this coffee shop to enjoy lunch and get some work done, but I was treated worse than I've ever been at any establishment before. I ordered a sandwich and fries (more on that later) and sat down. Their website said they closed at 3 and yelp said they closed even later than that. I had a zoom call scheduled from 2-3. I couldn't leave in haste because I was interviewing a candidate for an open position at my job. A little before 3, the cashier came to me and told me that they were closing at 3, but by that time I was already in the middle of the interview. The meeting had run over 5 minutes when an older guy, I'm not sure what his position was, came and started shouting/shouting at me to GET OUT NOW because they'd closed at 3. So then I had to let everyone on the call know that I had to drop off, but I felt bad because the woman I was interviewing was trying to make her case. Mind you, I hadn't yet finished my sandwich either. I was honestly shocked and offended that he would treat anyone like that, especially when they were closing early and I wasn't just in there taking up space without paying like people often do in cafes. I expressed that to the cashier on my way out and she seemed apologetic, but that didn't make up for the nasty customer service that I'd experienced. Rude and nasty. Vegan/Vegetarian: I had the Bainbridge sandwich which included hummus, red pepper, spinach, and cucumber. Honestly, it was delicious. And I'm not going to try and say their food was bad just because I had a bad experience. They've got several other menu options and based on food alone, would recommend it to others. Manchester is in desperate need of good eats, so I was excited to try the new Cafe Zata location. I occasionally stop in the Forest Hill location as it is close to my job. Inside the Bainbridge location is extremely clean. There is a good size seating area on the lower level and a few tables in the upstairs area. I'm hoping that in the warm months they open the garage door so that customers can enjoy the fresh air. Bob Marley was playing in the background. Just like the other Zata, there are donuts for sale. The young woman who took our order was pleasant and helpful. I ordered an egg and cheese on plain bagel with a medium steamed milk hot chocolate - which ran me $5.75. My partner got a small regular coffee and a tomato/pepper/spinach omelette with muenster cheese - which came out to about 9 dollars. The omelette came with breakfast potatoes and 2 pieces of toast with your choice of apricot, strawberry or grape jelly. We each also were given some nice ice cold water. Can't go wrong with a breakfast sandwich! My partner enjoyed the omlette and it had a great serving of veggies. The breakfast potatoes could use some more time on the cooker. The hot chocolate was warm at best and rather chunky. Not what I remembered from the other Zata. Maybe it was a fluke? I noticed they have a salmon salad on the menu which I'm excited to try for lunch. They also offer a grilled cheese with options such as horseradish cheddar, muenster, havarti, imported Swiss, cheddar and sharp provolone. For fellow friends who don't eat meat (I only eat fish) - there is a black bean burger on the menu. Overall we enjoyed our experience. Nice ambience. Clean atmosphere. Yummy food. Nice sounds. With a few tweaks this could be our go-to breakfast spot as we live down the street. read more

I wish I could give this place more stars!!! Since I begun working from home I've been coming here almost every day to work for a few hours while enjoying Cafe Zata. I've had everything on the menu. It's ALL good. Their burgers in particular are amazing, and their breakfast sandwiches. Everything is fresh and I've noticed they source from largely local vendors. Their coffee is top notch as well. The atmosphere is SO warm and welcoming. The young woman employee, October, is the one person on earth who may actually love my dog as much as I do. He (dog) loves to come here every morning too (on the patio) because they are always kind enough to give him a treat. I cannot say enough good things about Cafe Zata. I go here several times a week because they have the best chai I've ever had!! The breakfast is always super hot and tasty and I often dream about it when I'm away from Richmond. I can't remember her name, but the woman with reddish hair who's always working is hands down one of the sweetest people I've ever met and I wish she could make my chai every single day. This is also my favorite place to work from home. The vibes are always immaculate and cozy, and they even have a cute upstairs if you need more privacy to take a zoom call or meeting. I moved to Richmond a few months ago from Philadelphia and unfortunately have had a lot of life stuff happen upon my move. Being able to walk to Cafe Zata everyday has meant so much to me. It's a very cozy and warm atmosphere with just the nicest owners. You can tell they care about what they do and it shows in the delicious food and outstanding service. I absolutely love their new location, dangerously too close to home for my caloric intake in Manchester area. Beautiful space, although I never went to their prior location on Forest Hill Bl. They use Cupertino's bagels for their breakfast sammies, and take it from a Jersey guy, they are legit. I had the egg, cheese, and Taylor ham/Pork roll one and it was amazing and generous. I had it on one of the only bagels I consider worth the carb load...EVERYTHING. Their drip coffee was delicious. (No idea who's coffee they brew). Their short order cook was a beast/pirate, rocking out some wonderful looking breakfast platters, eggs to order, home fries, like he was the head cook on the USS Ronald Reagan. Baller. I'm going back to try other items for Lunch & dinner, and may go back one AM when I'm off to have a leisurely breakfast with a morning beer, as the group young 20-somethings y.o. friends were there doing at 0830 last Wednesday when I went to pick up my order. I am so happy that this is convenient to home. It's the perfect place for creatives looking to pen a novel, student study groups, remote work days or just as a place to chill. John is one of the nicest people you will ever meet and makes you feel welcome in the space created by him and his wonderful wife Joanne, a fixture and leader in the Richmond poetry scene. The menu is perfect. Breakfast all day, salads, soups, sandwiches and burgers rounded out with a nice selection of coffee and tea. I selected the Asiago bagel with Taylor ham, egg and Meunster. This bagel was the real deal, a light crisp outside housing a chewy but not overly doughy inside. I could tell that the bagel was created using the New York boil then bake method and John confirmed it. My chai was spot on as well and worth ordering hot while sitting in an air conditioned environment. On top of the food being great, I went two days in a row and met some of the most interesting people. My second day I got the sesame seed bagel with hummus. I usually prefer my hummus on veggies not bread but this was excellent as well. Support these folks and you won't be disappointed. I will definitely be making it my go to coffee spot. read more
