Honestly it's more of a 3.5 but round-up-able enough for me. My son had a thing at Randolph Macon during spring break. He needed lunch before we hit the road home. After looking for someplace close we found cafe54. SUPER close to campus. My eggs were ok. The corned beef hash was the canned kind just like I like it, because some stuff you can make fresh and fancy up but that preservative, war time taste just hits and you know I'm right. I had coffee that would put hair on your chest. and an Arnold palmer that was kind of watery. Oddly enough I found those traits acceptable. My son had french toast. This is only the 3rd time he's had it (by choice) and he really enjoyed it. While brunch/lunch was a 3.5 in my book it was a 5 for him There is no tap to pay but they do take the usual cash and card. So just don't forget your cards in your pants pockets and you'll be ok. The place was bright and airy with outdoor seating and the service was just ok. Decent place. Pretty good for what it is. I had the 2 eggs with homefries and girlfriend had the vegetable Omelet, the end of which I had. Homefries were good, as was the omelet. They gave me over-easy eggs when I asked for over-medium but who cares. Also didn't like the music but that's not part of my rating lol. read more

Went there this morning. My son got pancakes, eggs, and bacon which were pretty good. I got avocado toast and it was just unripe avocado on not quite toasted bread. I don't think I've ever seen avocado toast just be unripe avocados with nothing else. Service was nice, but very slow. read more

Jack was a great server and he was in training by Brooke, who also asked me how everything went! It was really good! My eggs were done the way I like them, extract crispy bacon 3 slices, marble rye toast, and a nice creamy bowl of grits! Food arrived quick and got! I wasn't nuts about the black plates and cups, but a minor detail and preference. This place is big! Booths lines both walls, high tops in the front and low 4 tops in the middle. Plus a really nice patio with outdoor seating and umbrellas! The price was great! $10 for breakfast is a good deal! And the restrooms were clean! Sooo, yes, checked all the boxes and I'll be back!! What can I say about this cute foodie spot nestled in Ashland, Cafe 54 Breakfast and Lunch! The staff was very welcoming and the venue was modern, nicely decorated and well maintained. The menu is small but offers some pretty tasty food. My niece ordered the French toast with eggs and sausage (4/5 very tasty and served hot). Mimi ordered the tuna sandwich with chips (we swapped halves and the tuna was really good 4/5 and paired well with the kettle chips) and I ordered the chicken salad and fruit (I'm a bit biased with chicken salad but theirs was pretty good 3/5 and the fruit was freshly cut and sweet 5/5). Overall a lovely experience and we highly recommend you checking them out! Can't wait to go back! read more

This was our first option for breakfast while visiting the town for the first time. The food was good, but customer service wasn't great. We attempted to ask for things a few times and our waitress was just flying out to other tables and not very attentive to our requests. Ambiance was ok, the maintenance in the bathroom needs attention specifically the door handles they will get you locked up and it was very hard to get out of the main bathroom. read more

Food was pretty good, decent quickness giving out food. The service was good at first but then zero, no coffee refill, only talked to us at the beginning, i noticed it wasn't the servers fault as their was only two and needed to eat lunch. The owner should assign more servers. read more

I had the loaded avocado toast on gluten free toast. It's nice to have a breakfast spot in Ashland. Food was good and Brooke was awesome! I recommend this place if you're in downtown Ashland. read more

Very nice to have a breakfast restaurant in Ashland! Enjoyed the outdoor seating. Friendly service. Pricing is reasonable, but honestly, the food quality could be better. Completed a morning walk on Saturday and made it to the restaurant just in time for the end of their soft opening. We were greeted right away and seated immediately. Our waitress stopped and acknowledged us and returned quickly to start our order. We ordered drinks which were promptly brought to the table by a young man helping the wait staff. We noticed that this young man was also delivering food out to the tables but was also busy picking up dishes once meals were complete. The restaurant space has been updated nicely. Bathrooms were clean as was the rest of the restaurant; even after a full morning of serving breakfast! We shared the avocado toast topped with greens and bacon and the veggie omelette - 10 out of 10 for both! Very impressed with the hostess, and presume owner "Dom", when 2 young ladies walked in just after closing. While they did not seat them for dining in they did give them a menu and allowed them to place a take out order. This level of service definitely deserves an A+ and we hope it will define this restaurant for a long time to come. Lastly appreciate the option of saving a little bit of $$$ when paying with cash. We will definitely be back to try the lunch menu - keeping our fingers crossed that the experience will be the same!!! read more

The food was decent. Sadly, the service was awful. The table was not fully stocked, one creamer for coffee. The silverware was dirty. Every time I asked for something that we normally should have had, like butter because there was none on our toast, or more creamers for our coffee, the waitress seemed imposed on. There was trash on the floor and the table caddy's throughout the restaurant weren't filled. I could understand the poor service if the restaurant was full but there were at maximum 6 parties. At one point the two waitresses were sitting behind the counter on their phones. I guess it's not their fault if there's no manager to show these young ladies what a waitress really does (for tips). read more

Ok so me and a friend checked this place out. I ordered standard breakfast 2 egg bacon. Ect. Waitress was fair. Had to ask for refill on coffee. Refill was cold. Wasn't that good of coffee anyway. Did not offer water. Never checked back. Food was slow to come out. When it did It was well prepared and the portions were generous. Spot on well presented. The prices I would consider a good deal. Breakfast in a new place on a quiet Saturday morning in Ashland. The coffee is good as was my sausage gravy on a split biscuit with 2 eggs cooked properly over medium with nicely done home fried potatoes. My wife's raisin bagel was okay but obviously a commercial bagel on the small side and not really warm and a bit on the dry side. Her fruit bowl was nice and tasty. The other plate of eggs over medium with bacon , potatoes and dry wheat toast was again good with the dry toast being a bit of a disappointment. The service was friendly and efficient and prices are reasonable in today's market. The lunch menu is sandwiches, wraps and salads with a good variety. read more

The food is good, but not anything that you wouldn't be able to make for yourself at home. It would be nice if the menu had more variety. Also, if canned corned beef hash is the only thing you have, don't put corned beef hash on the menu. Restaurants just should not serve that inferior product. It's like putting mac & cheese on the menu and then serving somebody that powdered cheese version of kraft mac & cheese. Everyone was really friendly, but service was chaotic. Had to get up and get silverware, had to get up and get ketchup, had to flag someone down for something else. The server who took our order said she was training, but then I guess she got confused about whether or not she was ever supposed to come back. She didn't . Finally had to get up and ask somebody for a check so we could leave. I know this place is brand new and I hope they work out all their problems because the one thing that was missing here in Ashland was a decent place to get breakfast outside of the chain restaurants. read more
