A large, spacious coffee shop on College Ave. I've been here twice, and it was packed both days, even on a holiday. Pros: There are lots of tables, counter seats, communal table seats, sofa seats (a little awkward if you want to do some work) for studying or working. The coffee is decent. About $7/8 for a latte. $5 for black drip coffee. Haven't tried the food, so can't comment on it. Cons: Unfortunately, the Wi-Fi didn't work at all. I came in hoping to do some work on my laptop, but had to leave for another coffee shop to get internet. This seems to be a consistent problem that isn't getting addressed. I've been here a few times, mainly because I'm obsessed with the cat. I came in planning to grab a chagacino and ended up ordering a matcha chagacino and a pistachio latte because why not? Both were the matcha had that clean boost and the pistachio latte was creamy and nutty in the best way. I also got The Caffeinated Breakfast and the Persian bagel on an everything bagel from Bouchik Bagels, and if you know, you know those bagels are . The dill cream cheese, cucumber, and tomato combo hit the spot. They had a couple kiosks down, so only one was taking cards, but the real MVP was Adura. He helped me figure out my orders on the kiosk and made sure everything went through. I also saw him helping the team like a total pro. Super polite, super helpful. Five stars just for his energy. Overall, the drinks I got were tasty, the food was solid, and the cat-themed cups always get me. I even grabbed a cat mug this time because obviously. This spot is an absolute must try! Coffee was premium and not at a premium price! It seems like they make it just to order and they have such unique flavors to try! I got the white lavender latte and it was so creamy and delicious! I've had my eye on this place for a while. I am always visiting the chocolate store across Ashby, so I never make it in. Their signboard has had some intriguing seasonal offerings. I finally stopped in today and decided to try their pistachio latte and a slice of chocolate coffee cake. The coffee was just the right hint of nutty and delightfully creamy. The cake was studded with a lovely streusel and slivered almonds. It had a great crumb and was chocolatey without being too much. I think it might have been gluten free, too. I got an iced matcha latte and while I didn't expect ceremonial grade matcha, I was disappointed that my drink was rly milky. My sis didn't quite enjoy her iced vanilla latte, as she went back to the bar to ask for more sweetness. Stopped by for a morning pick me up and really enjoyed the ambience and coffee. The vibes are super nice and open and airy. There is lots of natural sight and seating and even a small outdoor area to sit at. I've heard this place gets super crowded but when I went early it was pleasant with not too many people. Giving this two stars, would give it one if it weren't for the ambiance. Their drinks are really not the best quality, matcha only tastes like milk, no matcha taste at all, mind you it was $8. It is quite pale in color. It is funny how they have a little flyer promoting their matcha when it is subpar. I have gone here a collective 3 times and the reason why I keep coming back is because of the open space they have for studying- it truly is the ideal study spot with indoor and outdoor seating. Let's address the elephant in the room: I did not use the internet, so this review is based on to-go orders. This new corner College Ave spot is the second location, the first location being the uber popular North Berkeley locale. This spot is modern, large and airy. Plenty of seating inside, with some limited front patio seating. It has a full menu serving up breakfast, lunch and dinner, wine, beer and array of coffee and tea drinks. The food options actually sound super appealing and I look forward to coming back for a try. I agree from other reviews, it's louder than one would think for studying. For a quick pastry and coffee takeout, it wasn't bothersome. Maybe they don't want people staying for hours like they do in North Berkeley? The coffee is great. I usually get a latte if some sort and it's smooth. The most recent try was the chaggucino which had mushroom powder and monk fruit sweetener. It was so sweet to the point that I was like there has to be sugar in here, but it was delicious, creamy and well made. Pastries are fine, not life changing, but I did spy a mini chocolate babka I'll have to come back for. Price: not cheap. This spot is ringing at the higher end of cafes, both for food and drink. Fancy coffees are $6+, pastries $6+, menu items at $16/17+. To note: everything does seem high quality. Overall, I'm a fan of this upscale coffee shop. I'd hope they fix their internet and listen to their customers that seemingly music may be an issue. After selling Girl Scout cookies across the street for 2 hours, our 2nd graders needed to use the restroom. I asked for the restroom to which the cashier said it's for paying customers only. I told her I'd purchase a coffee or two and she rolled her eyes and was reluctant to say yes. I asked again to let them use the restroom and she huffed her breath and said something about management. I asked sternly again and asked what is the problem? She didn't respond and only pointed at the restroom. I left the girls use the restroom and I purchased a coffee. I overheard her speaking negatively about us. If the policy says that you need to purchase something in order to use a restroom, we did just that. There should not have been an issue and this should not have been a poor experience. The cashier needs to be more considerate and flexible with parents with young children. read more

Location is great with a lot of indoor spaces, not much outdoor though. Could easily be a meet up location! It's a coffee shop turned cafe! Good place for just grab a coffee and work/study alone or with a friend or two. It's usually a quiet ambient. It's basically an alternative to Peet's/Starbucks kinda place but they serve food. Today was the first day the coffee shop was opened and so glad we stopped in! The vibe is so modern, clean, and trendy. There is SO much seating and space to sit for a coffee date or work on a laptop. We ordered an oat milk latte (note: they don't have almond milk) and an iced americano. Both were great! Their pastries are local (from Starter Bakery). They also serve a few breakfast/brunch dishes for more substantial food. The service was attentive and someone was walking around clearing plates/cups. They have a water station and area with all the coffee fixings (eg lids, sugar, straws, etc) Would definitely come back and recommend checking it out! read more

Came here on a Sunday for the 1st time. There was a paper menu up by the cashier but otherwise, no menu to look at while waiting in line. When it was our turn, the menu did not show the drinks (such as types of lattes, regular coffee, flat whites, macchiatos, hot chocolate, etc). So, no comprehensive list of drinks and no prices. There was a small board on the counter though, that listed a hibiscus tea, honeysuckle latte, and maybe another one. A board was also at the entrance that listed a couple special items, including an ube latte. The hibiscus tea was good so we rate that as a 4. The ube latte left a lot to be desired. There was no taste of ube, so we rate that as a 1. It was bland and way too much ice. Combine this with no prices listed beforehand and no menu of drinks, we rate the Cafenated Coffee place a 2. I frequently go to the North Berkeley location of Cafenated and was excited to see that they now have a location in Elmwood. I'd been to the coffee shop that was previously in that location, and Cafenated did a wonderful job renovating so that the interior is much brighter and airier. It's the kind of spot where I could hang out for a while! They have all of the typical coffee and tea drinks. I think they were a little short-handed when I was there on a weekday afternoon as the cashier had to both take orders and make drinks. read more

Not much to say about this place if you are in the Elwood area it's a nice stop to have a cup actually we finished our sandwich there people didn't seem to mind ever though we didn't buy it there just a cup of Joe . i came here to study, but it was super busy!! i came back like an hour later and was able to find a spot. they have wifi but it did not work for my friends or me. strawberry matcha - maybe it's because they were busy but the matcha was super powdery so the drink was not smooth. the strawberry purée was so good and the only redeeming part. their other basic drinks are probably better, but the matcha did not hit, especially for $9. i'm not sure if i would come back here, but the convenience of the location is the best plus. read more

After 30 years coming here for coffee, I'm not coming back again. Coffee is drinkable , but 30% more expensive. Same for the small selection of sugary pastries. Wi-Fi is terrible, access limited to two hours, after which you are banned for 12 hours. Staff is not helpful, nor knowledgeable. I've stopped in Cafenated three times now, and I would consider it a overall nice cafe, however they really miss the mark on a few things: Cons: WiFi definitely is spotty at best, I ended up using my phone data Pricing is average for the area on regular drinks, unfortunately plant milk is extra. For the specialty drinks it will cost you at least 6 plus dollars. The size of the drinks, at least in the to-go cups seem small, especially given the price. The interior space and seating options earn the 4 stars for this review. Big, beautiful space with lots of different types of seating. Restroom was clean. I wouldn't come back for the drink alone. I actually didn't finish it - it was quite subpar for an iced vanilla latte. It tasted milky and the espresso just wasn't there. I looked at my receipt later and was surprised that it totaled $7 for the latte alone, not including the tip or Berkeley local fee.
