Inexpensive mediteranean lunch and dinner service made with fresh ingredients and a view of Lake Thoreau. The Good! -- Great brick oven pizza, good salads, nice wraps (chicken shawarma and falafel are my favorites) paired with house-made lavash chips, and grilled paninis are quite nice at very reasonable prices. Its made with the fresh ingredients you see there in the glass casing as you walk in so you can be sure the freshest ingredients make it onto your plate. I like the place much better for lunch (they have a carry out center just down from the main restaurant) for its convenience. If I have more time, I can sit by the window and watch the ducks swimming in the lake below. The mehhhhhhh-----Wine list leaves something to be desired (I'm unsure if they pump the bottles to keep air out, as the chateau ste michelle pinot gris was quite vinegary...) but then again I am a bit particular about my vino :-) The ugly--- Things to avoid: grape leaves (no meat nor veggies, just rice wrapped in a salty leaf), regular hummus (thoough the red pepper hummus is a thing of beauty and the garlic variety is not bad), and the lentil soup. Thanks Yelpers, for the suggestion! I bookmarked Cafesano and when a friend and I were contemplating where to go for dinner, we decided to try it out. We did a quick drive-by to pick up the food. There are no servers; everything is done at the register. The interior of Cafesano is really charming and quaint with candles and the establishment sits on a lake. The restaurant was very clean and they had cute writing everywhere. Some yelpers said it was like a higher scale Panera but I thought it was muuuuuuch nicer than a Panera. During pickup the cashier read the order back to us and then when she handed us our order she checked the bag again, which is always nice, cause you don't want to drive back if there are any problems. I got the avocado, asiago and tomato wrap. It was very flavorful. Some vegetarian sandwiches can be quite bland but this one was absolutely not bland. I also got the tsatski with pita bread and it was superb. They also added a side of pita chips and orange slices. My friend got the steak kabob which she really enjoyed but later into the meal she thought the stake tasted a little old. She also got the greek potatoes but they were a bit overcooked. All of the sauces were really tasty. This is a healthy place to grab a quick bite for a good price (dinner for the two of us was $28). read more

You may ask, "Does Cafesano really need another 5 star review?" Yes, yes it does. I have the great fortune of living steps away from this glorious establishment, and I must say it is amazing. If you love Mediterranean and Greek food, this is the place to go. If you're new to this type of food, try it first with Cafesano -- there are dishes that dabble in Med/Greek flavors, but aren't exactly the full cooking style. They also have some more "robust" dishes if you're feeling more adventurous. I wouldn't say it's as traditional as say, Mykonos, which is right down the road -- but it's certainly refreshing and delicious. Basically what I'm trying to say is that there is a fantastic dish here for everyone, so give it a whirl! read more

Cafesano is my absolute favorite Reston lunch spot. (Though be warned, during the 12-1:30 lunch hour on weekdays, there is often a line out the door and difficulty finding a place to sit.) I am a vegetarian, and I love how varied the options are for me! The baba ghanoush is my favorite anywhere, it is nice and smoky, and not too heavy or oily. I love the Bianca Insalata, which is a white pizza that basically has a tossed arugula, onion, olive, and asiago salad on top. It manages to be light and refreshing, which is a difficult think for a pizza to accomplish. Of the salads, the avocado, tomato, and mozzarella is my favorite. Though it is also the one dish of my favorites that I have complaints about. The size of the salad can vary drastically. It costs the amount of a full meal, and sometimes it comes out that size, with everything looking perfect, but other times it comes out half the size and rather sloppy. I guess it depends on who is making them? Their fresh brewed tea and homemade lemonade are both delicious, and I like to mix the two. I also loooove the lavash chips that come with certain meals. Overcrowded. I didn't like the cafeteria style feeling and the staff wasn't friendly or engaging AT ALL! My grilled cheese avocado sandwich was good but I wasn't overwhelmed. I think this is the best option for those who work in the area but it falls into the only good for "you're at the office and need to get out" work lunch. I wouldn't go here for a regular meal. This has been one of my go-to restaurants for years, and overall I've been very pleased. The menu has plenty of options and they are all excellent. The reason I'm giving four stars instead of five is that while it's always good, it can be inconsistent. Love love love Cafesano! I could truly eat here everyday.... The menu is extensive with so many options. I also appreciate that they offer healthy alternatives, such as brown rice, terra chips (basically baked vegetables and they taste AMAZING), and wheat panini bread. The restaurant itself is cute and cozy inside. Tables and booths have candles and the windows look out onto the water. It does get very crowded in the evenings and finding a table can be difficult without a bit of a wait. Overall a great place! read more

I've had a lot of business catered lunches and this one was absolutely my favorite! The food is delicious. We had chicken kebabs, rice, vegetables, salad, and avocado dip - I could have eaten it all afternoon. We have had trouble finding vegan friendly places, but Cafesano had no trouble understanding how to put all cheese and meat items separate making our vegetarians and vegans very happy. That this place currently has 4 stars with almost 200 reviews absolutely baffles me. It's stuff like this that always makes me wary trying a new place that is well reviewed on Yelp. I have eaten Cafesano a several times, always to go. I live and work less than a mile away so that should't be an issue as far as food quality goes. The food isn't good. I mean, it isn't bad either. It's just OK. And "just OK" can work I guess, if the price point matches. But at Cafesano it doesn't. Paying too much for food that is just OK doesn't work for me. For reference, I tended to get stuff like the Shawarma's/felafel/Kefta and can't speak to Pizza's/American fare at this establishment. read more

After many years of various restaurants going in and out of this very location Cafesano has become a fixture in the South Lakes shopping center, even expanding to having a catering storefront just down the sidewalk. Their Mediterranean food is always delicious and always fresh. Some of my favorites include the Italian meatball panini, gazpacho (only served in Summer months), kabobs, and all the salads. The dining atmoshphere is also very nice and casual. In the wamer months, sitting outside on the patio is delightful. During rush times the dining area can get a little loud, but not shouting level. Me and my girlfriend have eaten here multiple times. We have not dined in but the dining room always appears really clean with a warm feeling atmosphere. I never would have come into this restaurant if it was not near my office. However, I am so glad that a coworker brought me here, because it is a great find! I have even been back on non-work days with my boyfriend because I really enjoy the food. Everything is very fresh and they have a nice variety of lunch/dinner items to choose from. The pizza is very good, and you can tell they use fresh mozzarella and toppings. The paninis and lavash chips served as an accompaniment are yummy as well. I would also recommend their salads. The prices are a tad high, but the good food was worth it. Expect to spend 8-10/meal. The staff was extremely friendly. You place your order at the counter, and they bring the food to you. There is mixed seating -- booths, stools at high a counter, normal tables, and chair/booth combos. They have serve yourself sodas, lemonade, and iced tea. There is a view of the lake and outdoor seating. They accept credit cards. They have a pretty large kids menu and because there's background music, you didn't hear others -- which was perfect for those without children.
