3.7 stars! Tried this after a friend recommended it. This place has such an old school vibe but still felt like fine dining. The owner greeted us and even checked up on us a few times. He seemed to know a lot of the customers which makes it feel homey. They gave complimentary bread which came with butter, olive oil, balsamic, and other fixings. The bread was super soft on the inside and had a nice crunch from the exterior. My boyfriend and I ordered the calamari, scaloppini mare terra, fettuccini con funghi, and fettuccini al frutti di mare. In simple terms: calamari, a seafood vodka pasta, fettuccini alfredo w mushroom, and veal with lobster bits served with green beans and scalloped potatoes. Surprisingly, I didn't love the calamari. It had a good size but lacked flavor. It also could have been cooked a tad bit more for better color and texture. The fettuccini alfredo was super creamy and had such a strong mushroom taste! The veal was nice but a bit chewy for my liking. The scalloped potatoes were good but nothing special. However the star of the show was the seafood vodka pasta! It had such an amazing vodka flavor with loads of seafood! I have to admit, they put way too many calamari pieces and not enough of the other items mentioned in the dish. Another thing was that I found a strand of hair on my plate. When I notified the server, he said it was just from the green beans but would exchange it for me. Later, he explained that the "hair" was green bean skin.. which was odd to me considering the hair was turning black to white. I didn't appreciate him trying to make an excuse. I decided to look past it even though the server didn't apologize. Good first experience (other than the piece of hair). The seafood vodka pasta is def a must-have. Went last weekend on a Saturday night. Quaint old school Italian feel, a bit outdated. Our server was great, but service overall was kind of slow. We ordered drinks...two had mixed drink and wine, two had water. I ordered a Diet Coke with dinner that never came. Two of us ordered the lobster ravioli, one had a chicken dish and one had a pasta dish. Everything was just ok. The menu is huge and I feel when menus are that large, all the dishes are just ok. It would be better to just specialize in 10 really good dishes. For dessert two of us had lemon sorbetto, flavor was good but could've been smoother texture. Had my birthday dinner with group of 5 at Bonaroti on Valentine's Day. They were very accommodating when we asked to add another chair to our table. They gave each ladies a stem of rose, which was a nice touch. Everyone enjoyed the meal and left to grab drinks in downtown Vienna. Sadly, we were denied entry at 3 restaurant/bars because we did not have a reservation and for some reason they said no standing at the bar (??). We came back to Bonaroti and went into the bar area. My friend and I dined here for the first time and it was fantastic. Right off the bat, the owner kept greeting us, helping us order, and recommending menus. I ordered a pasta dish and it was delicious. The sauce was a sweet and creamy tomato sauce, the seafood was fresh and plentiful, and the pasta was fantastic. My friend and I agreed that the pasta here stood out from other Italian restaurants we've been to - fresh, well-made, and perfectly flavored. On our most recent visit, I had the veal osso buco--tender, rich, and perfectly executed. My wife had the veal marsala, which was equally outstanding. My bf and I came here bc we wanted to explore other Italian spots aside Ciao, since we love and reguarly visit Ciao. It is ok, we saw reviews saying this spot was better than Ciao despite the higher priced menu, so maybe we were anticipating, but it was just an ok experience. The food is good, very warm and . We were craving cream sauce so we got the fettuccini con funghi and cabonara. Both tasted delicious, but I don't find it anything significantly better that would warrant a higher price than Ciao. The service was fine, but a little odd. The servers checked in on us often, so we appreciate that. But there were some confusion in the beginning after we have made our orders already and a different server came to give us the menu again. Then while we were eating, a different server just took our little sugar container away to give to a different table without saying anything. I was a little taken aback because there were other empty tables, or maybe the server couldve asked if we were still using that and if he could take it away. If you are looking for authentic Italian cuisine, this is your place. My wife is a Brooklyn, NY born and raised first generation Italian, whose family is from Puglia, and this place is top notch. My wife's parents, Zias and Zios, and cousins were in town from NY. We dined here and everything was made to perfection. Her entire family couldn't rave enough about the service, ambiance, and most importantly, the food. They are tough critics and felt this restaurant was excellent! Italian food should be simple, made with fresh ingredients, and made with the best techniques. Ristorante Bonaroti does all of this better than any other Italian restaurant I've been to in the DMV. The gamberi Bonaroti were cooked perfectly and the taste was amazing! We loved the calamari fritti as well. The vitello alla florio tasted like my mother-in-law made it in the back. Additionally, Sergio, the owner, is always available and ready to help. He takes great care to make sure everyone is enjoying their meal and made booking our large party easy. Greeted by the manager, Sergio, and possibly his wife, they immediately made my family feel like we were VIP Guests- and their entry way is filled floor to ceiling with photos of all of those VIP Guests! The quality of the service from the waiters makes you feel like you're in a 1950s Manhattan Supper Club. And the food! I've ordered incredible pasta every time I've visited and I've never ordered the same thing twice: Linguine Pescatora, Melanzane Parmagiana, Manicotti Bonaroti! Bonaroti is a staple in Vienna - and retains a warm, old world charm with great service. Unfortunately I feel that Bonaroti (much like Cafe Renaissance in Vienna) hasn't kept up with the times, and while the prices continue to rise, the flavor and quality have not. My wife and I were never regulars here over the years - primarily because the flavors were always bland and the prices weren't justified. Tonight we ordered the the antipasti, the swordfish, the spaghetti Chris Cooley, and a side of asparagus - the total was $90. They provided ample bread (albeit the focaccia was stale) and the main course portion sizes were very generous. The pastas were really over cooked and everything lacked flavor. If I'm paying $26 for a plate of spaghetti I want housemade pasta, cooked al dente, and a bold Bolognese with depth of flavor - this didn't deliver at all. With Roberto's just down the road and Alta Strada in Mosaic we likely won't be back to Bonaroti - which is unfortunate because we want to support local, family owned restaurants as much as possible. read more

Last night we spent a wonderful evening at Bonaroti's for our anniversary. It was our first visit, and we throughly enjoyed it. The food was amazing, the service was excellent! I use a mobility scooter, and I was very nervous about my ability to access the restraunt itself. However, I need not have worried, the restraunt had a portable ramp and the staff had obviously assisted wheelchair users many times in the past. Several able bodied men spotted me both entering and exiting the restraunt without making me feel as if I was disturbing everyone (believe me, this attitude is not always the case). I am saddened to write this review about a once pretty great Italian restaurant. Stuck in quarantine for Mothers Day we wanted to do something special for a carry out, we checked and learned that Bonaroti would be open. It's been a few years since we last dined here and had been fairly regular, but then life intervened and we just hadn't been back. As stated, the meal we got this time showed not only a decline in quality but a lack of even the modest attention to the basics. The good: The Carpaccio Di Filetto as an appetizer still rocked. Plentiful, thinly sliced and abundant bread crisps to accompany it. The average. The olive tapenade was tasty, albeit only a small portion, but accompanied by ample bread, which wasn't truly fresh, but still good. The Spaghetti Marinara was the best entree, the sauce tasted fresh and familiar, but for the price, really nothing to sing about. The not so good: the Melanzane Parmigiana was dripping with a thin sauce, watery with a smear of oil. Nothing like the eggplant parm that I've had in a ton of places. The embarrassing: Listed under the 'Fresh Seafood' header, this was the worst, and definitely NOT fresh. In fact the mussels were so aromatic, they were either spoiled or minutes away from being so. Maybe the dish was prepared earlier in the week, but is was so bad we wound up dumping it. Honorable mention as either embarrassing or maybe we really 'stuck it to the customer' the Asparagi Verdi Alla Griglia for $9 for six small pieces of limp, oil drenched, overlooked asparagus. Nicest touch: it was Mothers Day, so they gave us a red rose. While nice we would have gladly forgone the flower for 1/2 way decent food. Met up with a friend here at her suggestion and I think I can finally say that my search for a good lasagna may be over. Well, in VA at least, since a trip to Italy is not within my budget at all. However, I can say without a doubt that this place may have THE best lasagna I've ever had in my 30 years of being alive. I'm very picky when it comes to what I eat, and thankfully, this dish did not disappoint. Not only was the ragu sauce rich, meaty, and full of flavor, but the layers of the lasagna were near perfect in texture, followed by a smooth béchamel sauce that seemed to just tie everything together very well in the most amazing way possible. Each bite I took practically melted in my mouth and made me feel like I was in heaven. I'm not ashamed to admit that I finished my whole plate because it was honestly that delicious. And although I live about an hour away, I would absolutely make the trip back to this location just to eat their lasagna again. I will admit, the street it's along can get congested so you may have to force your way into their parking lot, but otherwise, I would definitely say it's worth checking out if you love lasagna. read more

This is not necessarily my thing, but I came here for the food. So about the food. It was good, but not great. And there was a hefty price tag that came along with it. I selected a special ... Osso Buco. The portion was very sizable, but the tomato sauce was a bit acidic. My wife had a fish special and she informed me it was a bit dry. The wait staff was very attentive to our needs ... which definitely added to the experience.
