I went to Caffe Florian twice during my trip in Venice and both times was a great experience. The first day I just had some tea and with a sandwich light snack but very good quality. The second day I had afternoon tea which included tea (variety of options), sandwiches (seafood, vegetarian, non-veg options), and desserts (scones, macarons, and whip cream ). The pricing was quite high as you do pay a premium for this 5 star caffe. They also charge for live music which is played right outside. The music creates such a romantic atmosphere so it's very nice to hear as you enjoy your food. The service was also 5 star to the point of even the washroom which had amazing service inside and was very clean overall. Omg... I know everyone recommends this cafe... bc it's an institution but WTF. Insane-horrific overpriced on everything. You're basically paying for their known name and music. They charge you for the music (which you hear for free when you stand near enough).... The cappuccino was ok, their OJ wasn't sweet like others we've had. The waiter was a complete A$$-HOLE. My friend ordered a spritz... he brought over a hot chocolate and pretended not to hear us when we tell him "it's incorrect". And he just left. WOW. We had about an hour before our tour so we decided to come here for the frozen tiramisu. I walked up to the host in a suit and he told me we could either sit in the galley or grab a table at the terrace if we see an empty one. I walked over to the terrace, saw a group leaving so I stood by the table and gestured to my family to come over. Two older waiters came over and started screaming at me saying that other people were waiting. The only "other people" waiting was a Caucasian family that came after us and was also looking for a table. I told them politely that the gentleman in a suit over by the entrance told me to look for a table and then continued yelling and gesturing and shooing me away. My family found a table at the galley and since the girls really wanted to try the frozen tiramisu, I resisted the urge to just leave. When the waiter came by and we said we wanted the frozen tiramisu, he said that their freezer/ice cream machine is broken so it's not possible to order anything with ice cream. We decided to just use their restroom and leave then. As we left, we saw them bringing out the desserts we wanted to another table nearby. I'm always very polite when I travel, especially to restaurant, hotel, and store staff. I also never assume that customer service people are being racist, but it was blatantly clear that we, an Asian family, were not welcome at their facility. Clearly, we are not good enough to sit at their terrace and their ice cream machine/freezer doesn't work for us. Unfortunately, this wasn't the only time it happened in our one day in Venice too, which is such a shame because it really changes how you feel about a city. If you want to feel super high end this is the place for you!! On a rainy day in Venice I thought this would be a good time to visit this well established must visit coffee house. The servers and everyone that works here were dressed up to the max.. very classic and old school, seemed like the kind of place high society goes for tea or lunch. I was seated straight away thankfully as I didn't have a reservation but I would suggest you get one! This place is busy ! The room I was in was decorated in a very grande Venetian way. Felt very proper ! I ordered a cappuccino and a plate of biscotti. The plate consisted of various cookie and some very delicious biscotti. Yum. The tray just looked so lovely with my water jug and glass and the coffee and the biscotti. I felt bougie for sure. This is something you must indulge in in Venice. Absolutely. My only thing I wasn't thrilled with was the servers were a little off as in they are very stern and didn't even crack a smile. Didn't feel very friendly is all. all right, so I get it I honestly do Café Florian can, and perhaps always will be a polarizing subject and will always have 2 to 3 star reviews because of the prices. And if we're being honest, the prices are the elephant in the room however, when you're talking about an iconic establishment that is associated with a particular city and has been in business for longer than the United States of America, it is worth, at least one trip in the case of myself I made my café Florian trip in 1977 with my family, and while most of my focus in that timeframe was chasing all the pigeons in Saint Mark Square I do remember the ice cold Schweppes bitter lemon drink, and the wonderful ice cream that was served. Yes all the while tormenting those poor pigeons and yes pictures of that 70s adventure will included What made this trip? I made my return to Café Florian, but this time I got to experience it with my son so 46 years later it was a special moment for both of us. The same symbolic importance and the generational bond, a family , it nearly brought a tear to my eye. On the other hand service is Florian excellent, the prices are airport prices on steroids if you have to pay cover to the band, but the overall ambience of being in Saint Marks Square the service, the music playing and the general relaxing feel you get there makes café Florian priceless read more

This is quite the famous coffee shop so upon arriving in Venice, I needed to check it out. I sat outside on a beautiful day and that was quite nice. I ordered what I believe is the most expensive cappuccino in the world. Most coffee shops I have been to in Italy charge 2-4 euro a drink. But, this is the oldest and one of the most famous. Unfortunately, the drink was good but not great. The foam ratio was off and it was slightly bitter. I enjoyed the cookies with it (also very expensive). One issue I have with the coffee shop is that it isn't clear who is your waiter so it took an especially long time to pay and leave. Another is that the appear to offer Wi-Fi, but it didn't work for me. Overall, this is more about an experience than the actual coffee. Sitting outside and seeing the view is awesome. There is a band playing which is cute as well. So, if you are visiting and have never been here, then yea I recommend coming and checking it out. If you have already been here, then there are many other options for a lot less money to choose from. read more

During our four-night stay in Venice, my husband and I had cocktails twice at Caffe Florian. When you walk through Piazza San Marco, there are several cafes with band and signers playing operatic music. It is fun to walk from one to the next, and listen to the different bands. On two different evenings, we chose to sit at Caffe Florian, order drinks and listen to the band. Both times we were lucky to sit right up front. Once seated, we were given the opportunity to make requests from the band. I felt almost like I was on a fancy date on a reality show. Service is friendly and fast. They are very professional. They do very nice crafted cocktails. They always serve them with a snack of some sort, sweet or savory. I went inside to use the restroom, which was located all the way upstairs. I expected it to be messy due to being such a popular tourist spot. However, the restroom was spotless, and the staircase smelled of incense. The inside of the restaurant is upscale and beautifully decorated. Though we never ate there, it appears they have a full menu. I have seen many complain that this restaurant is too pricey and touristy, but that is the experience we signed up for. Really, I cannot think of a lovelier way to spend an evening than sipping cocktails and listening to music in Piazza San Marco....highly recommended! read more

I had this cafe at the top of my list to visit in Venice, and it was so much fun! I loved the ornate interiors and rich history behind the cafe. There were definitely a lot of tourists here, but we enjoyed our time. Considering how cold Venice was in January, this cafe made the perfect rest stop to warm up. Drinks were delicious. The iced Florian was a little smaller than I envisioned but the whipped cream + coffee tasted very lush. Service was quick and we were served and seated quickly. If you look up the word 'tourist' in the dictionary, a picture of Cafe Florian will pop up. This is the all time biggest tourist trap money pit you'll find in Venice ... a literal sea of money pit tourist traps. It's almost like that scene out of the movie 'European Vacation' with the rude waiter. I have never had as big an asshole waiter as in this place. First of all, the prices are insane here. Venice can be a pricey place but this goes beyond and pushes the limits between insanity and lunacy. A toasted cheese sandwich here costs 20 - 30 Euros. Literally two pieces of supermarket bread and a slice of cheese. I have to respect that they make no qualms about the shit you are getting. It is not described as organic, house made, etc. it is described simply as a cheese sandwich. It comes on a fancy silver platter but is basically something you would have made in college after staggering home from a fraternity party. The coffee is okay ... its hard to find bad coffee in Italy. It too comes in fancy silver serving style and for 12 euro, there's enough for a cup and a half. The drinks are weak as fuck and 3x the price of any other place in Venice. Even the beer is 10 or 12 euros per bottle. We knew going in that we'd be sitting there for the music and experience ... so it didn't sting as much that the food was laughably terrible. We were dismayed after spending over 100 Euro on two Negronis each that we did not feel even the slightest buzz. Back to our waiter. The waiters here are all older gentlemen who dress in white tuxedos. They slide in and out of tables looking generally as interested in the customers as if someone dressed in rags and covered in dirt came up to the jewelry counter at Tiffany's. He came to the table and took my girlfriend's order and then walked away without a word leaving me holding my menu. We watched him go to the side of the stage and start texting. He stood there for 10 minutes. I tried to catch his eye, wave him down, etc. until finally we asked another waiter to bring him over. He looked up towards our table, then went back to texting. 4 or 5 minutes later, he came to our table and stood there looking at me without saying anything. I gave him my order and he didn't say a word and walked away. Literally, I wondered if he was mistaking me for someone that was shagging his wife or something. Oddly enough, all the shitty food came out at the sake time. It didn't taste terrible ... as bread and cheese are usually very edible. But for 40 Euros ... 4 pieces of bread and two pieces of cheese is pretty pricy. And very average. The band was good and they played one of my requests. The band leader even smiled at me and nodded when they played it. Overall, I guess when in Venice, you have to try it once. The weak drinks, asshole waiters and terrible overpriced gas station convenience store level food make it suck ... but its a place that sucks in a famous way. read more
