Visiting Venice (aka The City of Water) can be a totally unique and delightful experience, but sometimes it feels a bit strange. Occasionally it feels like you're in a cut-rate carnival, complete with low quality food intended to appeal to the baser tastes of the tourists. Occasionally, you'll encounter both wandering con-artists and ridiculously and obscure service charges. Fortunately that's only in the worst places and on particularly bad days. Most of the time, in most of the places I've been to, the experiences are positive for the most part. Marchini Time is definitely a place to head for when you're ready for some of the best that Venice has to offer! It's a busy bar that serves aperitifs, coffee, pastries, and savory treats to what's usually a packed house full of eager customers. While the staff is occasionally curt (most of the time there are upwards of fifty people waiting to be served!), they're almost always friendly and welcoming. Tip: This is the perfect place to grab a morning cappuccino and a pastry. I've visited here several times, trying a different pastry each time, and I enjoyed very much enjoyed them all :-) Service moves at a brisk clip, and not all of the staffers speak English, but that didn't slow me (or any of the other tourists I saw here) down; you don't need to know the name of the pastry that you want to try - just point to something that looks good, and you're on your way to a delicious bite! The times I've been here, the locals in the crowd vastly outnumbered the tourists, which is a good indication that this isn't a tourist trap.
