2024 Edit They moved! The location on Rte. 28 is bigger and brighter. Head to Hearth and Kettle and it's right there in that little mall. The setting has indoor seating with views of the water. Outdoor space is plentiful. New: 7 AM opening service Snowy Owl Coffee and Shakerato's. Of course at 12, the gelato is served. Quaint little place located just off Main St. in Hyannis. We couldn't decide which of the 20 or so flavors we wanted to try so we opted for a large cup ($6) of 3 different flavors: hazelnut, chocolate, and blueberry mascarpone. The latter was the best. The owners trained in Italy. They've been open seasonally for 6 years and you can tell they really care about the place. It's immaculate and they mentioned how they meticulously manage the size of their inventory in an effort to maintain freshness. The gelato chef even came out from the back in full chef attire with the hat and all. A much better option than the Ben & Jerry's around the corner. Only 4 small benches on the porch out front so you may not have a place to sit in the summertime. read more

I've traveled to Italy many times, and whenever I go, I eat a lot of gelato. Bertini's makes better gelato than I've ever had in Italy. The people who own it are so friendly and clearly devoted to doing things the right way. When my husband asked about their pistachio flavor, they told him they roast the nuts and grind them on site, to make sure they're right. It's also served in reasonably sized proportions, instead of those 43-ounce "single-scoop" blood glucosphere monstrosities you'll find at most ice cream establishments. What we got: Lemon (my order): absolutely the best gelato I've ever had. Tangy and creamy. It sounds simple, and it is, but transcendently so. The Platonic Ideal of gelato. Pistachio Citrus Cassata (my husband's order): nuts ground so finely you can't even detect that they're there, except for the wonderful flavor. Citrus mixed beautifully. They even have a beach a short scenic walk from the store, where you can sit and eat your delicious little icy fortune. Just an utter delight. Put this place on your to-do list.
