chai

over priced and not impressive. everytime i come here i leave disappointed. the coffee is pretty much make your own, with a creamer and sugar station. if im paying 7$ for a small coffee i shouldn't have to do that? the chai is bland and taste like water, 7 for a small also- photo attached. i asked for a pump of mocha and it turned into solid chocolate, never had that happen anywhere else. the pastries look excellent but they're also disappointing. the people working there aren't the friendliest either.

#3 turkey, roasted red pepper, pesto sandwich

This place was very fun! Stopped in for some lunch on a Sunday. Easy parking and inside was busy. I was a little overwhelmed at first because there is so much chocolate and options that look delicious. I ordered a #3 turkey, roasted red pepper and pesto sandwich with a medium hot chocolate. Both were delicious! I was able to get a seat on the side. Inside is tight but a medium amount of seating. My food came out in about 5-10 minutes. The sandwich was delicious I just wish it was a little bite bigger but okay size for ~$10. The hot chocolate was also delicious but a little pricey ~$6. Overall so yummy and was fun to pick out some chocolate and try some goodies!

This is a hard place to rate. Is it a candy shop? Or is it a coffee shop? Actually it's both. For sure they do an active business in the well stocked candy section and they make some very good chocolates. But most of the customers, myself included, seem to want it to be a coffee shop, a relaxing place to enjoy some coffee, some time with your devices, your book, or in conversation with friends. And there's nothing else nearby that fits the bill, so by defacto this is it. Unfortunately in this area it falls flat. Its interior more resembles a retail store than a cozy place to hang out with its closely spaced tables among merchandise shelves, a commercial feel, and it's been noisy and crowded every time I've been there.. My coffee, a standard small black, was good, and locally roasted, but loses points for being served in a paper cup that I fill for myself at the urn. For specialty drinks you get a number and wait to be called to the pickup window, the several waiting customers contributing to the noise and crowding. For me, a a big part of a coffee shop's overall rating is the quality of their pastries and sweets. Here's where they especially failed for me. They have many such items - an unusually large number actually, mostly slices of various cakes. But none are made in house, nobody could or would tell me who made them, and they were priced at up to and exceeding $12! That's not just high for a coffee shop, that's restaurant prices. At least in a restaurant your slice might be decorated with some fruit drizzle, whipped cream or ice cream and a cherry. But a sad slab of cake, naked on a plate made by who knows, for twelve dollars? No thanks. So instead I went over to the candy side. They have a large selection of chocolates, caramels, truffles, candied fruit slices, fudge, meltaways, all the usual forms, and all made by them. And every one that I have tried has been delicious. Before ordering my coffee I went to the counter, ordered four individual chocolates from the vast selection, and for under $5, sweets in hand, I got my coffee then went outside to the picnic area to relax. But even the outside wasn't so relaxing. It is a crowded, busy parking lot, and the picnic table is next to a Dumpster.

Very cute shop, good chocolate and ice cream flavors (no tastings!), and very reasonable portions too!

What a great dessert spot!! They have ice cream options plus baked goods plus tons of candy. There are indoor tables (we were there at 8:45pm so it was dark and I'm not sure if they have outdoor tables, too). There is a parking lot as well as a ramp and stairs to the entrance. We might come back to try the breakfast menu, too.

One of my favorite spots to stop and enjoy some delicious Frozen Hot Chocolate with crunch, regular hot chocolate, or excellent Ice cream soda (chocolate syrup and chocolate ice cream, delicious pastries. Service is always fast and friendly. The ambiance is friendly with locals and tourists, kids after school, is just your a perfect place to stop on your bike ride through Orleans, or just to work, read the paper.

Busy Saturday at Hot Chocolate Sparrow

The Hot Chocolate Sparrow is a fun place to stop along the Cape Cod Rail Trail. Because it's so we'll located, it is hoppin'! Lots of people around lunchtime on a Saturday afternoon. We ordered 3 sandwiches (the 1, 2, & 3). The sandwiches are on the smaller side, but still managed to hold us through dinner, in combination with a frozen hot chocolate . My husband and I split the #s 1 & 3. We quite enjoyed both. My quibble would be the frozen hot chocolate. That seems to be something of a specialty here, but it didn't feel particularly special. Also, the day we stopped by (a busy Saturday towards the end of summer) the frozen hot chocolates were taking a long time to come out. Long enough to feel like they forgot your order. I'm not sure that part of my order was worth the wait. It is a cute spot , though, and well-located off the cape cod rail trail. There's a reason folks keep coming!

Always my first and last stop on my mid-cape trip - starting and ending with an iced mocha sparrow or hot cappuccino. Their espresso is superior and their mocha situations are always amazing. Fast, efficient service. A bustling but cozy environment adorned in pink neon. Bonus - it's also a chocolaterie and you can get some incredible fudge and other sweet treats while you're here! FYI they also have sandwiches and lunchy things (medium good), ice cream (always good) and pastries (not the best on the block but still good!); wifi, outlets, and ample parking. Right off the Cape Cod Rail Trail for bikers in need of a bathroom and water bottle fill up.

Took home lots of treats.

The second I walked through the door, I knew we were in for something authentic. The air was filled with the unmistakable smell of fresh sauce, garlic, and quality ingredients. The vibe? Warm, casual, and confidently no-frills in the best way. When my boyfriend's mom asked for mayo and was kindly offered a side of house-made marinara instead, we knew we had struck Italian gold. I ordered the Caprese panini, and while I didn't love the bread at first glance, it surprised me--it was light enough to let the real stars shine: creamy, fresh mozzarella and that incredible homemade pesto. I actually finished the whole sandwich (a rare feat when most leave me full of nothing but bread). My boyfriend (and his parents) devoured their sandwiches without a word, leaving only a few crumbs and a slightly smug expression. We also split an arancini ball for just $5--and it was hefty. Flavorful and golden, though the cheese inside could've used a bit more melt inside. Still worth it, especially at that price. Cibo offers both made-to-order paninis and a full spread of pre-prepared Italian dishes that looked straight out of Nonna's kitchen. Think: lasagna, pastas, cold salads, and a take-and-bake section with house-made pasta and sauces. The gourmet coffee bar smelled like heaven and used fresh ingredients--no plastic creamer pods in sight. Even the dessert case looked like it had stories to tell. Aside from some Cape Cod chips and bottled Coke, everything here felt distinctly and proudly Italian. This is a spot that knows exactly what it is and does it well. 10/10 would detour for this place again.

Unfortunately I was quite disappointed when I went today for a panini to go. The paninis used to be amazing and a true treat. Today's Italian panini had exactly one thin slice of ham, one thin slice of salami and once thin slice of mortadella on it. For a $17 sandwich, I would have expected way more meat and the bread/meat made me barely taste any protein. Hopefully the new team can adjust and do better in the future.

And it wasn't cheap but I don't feel we were being fleeced eating it. It was a fun treat. We loved it. When the ice cream cafe came in and stole all the business I felt bad and thought it seemed unfair. I would try to get my family to patronize E&B. Kids weren't inclined. Tonight I made them go, i said give it a chance. Well I am fully on the kids' side now. It is really sub par. Super expensive. Half hearted service. Slow. No samples - which for these prices is bizarre. Only okay ice cream. It makes me sad. I wan't to be faithful to the old place --but we will absolutely never go back. 100 yards away is a happy, peppy ice cream store with slew of flavors and carefully made well scooped cones. My kid got a root beer float at Emack tonight. I think it was 9 dollars. A teeny non ball mush of ice cream dumped at the base of a small plastic cup and a can of soda. It was worse than getting fast food. I mean what? My other kid got a small cone. I tipped the servers and left $20 dollars poorer. You must be kidding me. It is like they want to go out of business. They need to regroup or something. It isn't working.

When I come back to the CAPE the first restaurant I go to is SUNBIRD because they always have new twists and local ingredients for old FAVORITES. There are always some new faces at the front counters but each year they are younger and sweeter, more intelligent, and well informed about the ingredients of each menu item. The kitchen is attentive to every little nuance making foods healthy but sumptuous and tasteful. I was starved when I arrived on a redeye from LA and I ordered the Kimchi breakfast tacos and the quinoa porridge. The Kimchi spiced up the corn tortillas, egg and cheese with savory and tangy fermented cabbage. The porridge was "heartwarming" quinoa steamed in coconut milk and topped with berries, dried apricots. If you want to save time you can call in your order or book on-line. EATING WITH YOUR FAMILY? I put the mayo on the side, which I think was a mistake, because it was a little dry (but that's my fault). Overall, yummy meal!
