Was so excited to try Katie's. When I saw they had an old favorite flavor from childhood, butter crunch, I couldn't wait to taste it. We went around 2:30pm on Sunday, August 10. There were only a few people in the shop, no crowd. The cashier didn't look up when she said "can I help whoever is next". I said hello and ordered the 2 butter crunch cones. The ice cream was soup, so she put them in cups and stuck the cones on top, not the experience we were looking for. When I tasted it, the flavor was good, but there were no little bits of "crunch". I went back in to tell her, thinking maybe she used the end of a bucket and could open a new one. She just said that the caramel must have softened the crunchy bits. No offer to make it right by giving us something different, or an apology. Yummy, sweet soup, but overall very disappointed. The place is cute with plenty of seating outside. The service is good however a bit slow causing people having to wait outside and lines to form. I get it, it's all hand made and prepared plus if someone gets a banana split or the like it can be time consuming. The prices are what I expected for the Cape. We passed Katie's Ice Cream on our way to dinner so its presence on our walk home so we had the subsequent hour and a half to think about passing it again on our walk home and you already know how that turned out. They have a very large patio outside the small interior which was absolutely jam packed with people eating ice cream. It's quite a scene. The ice cream gods were looking down on us because somehow there was only a line to the doors on the inside of the place which moved quickly. They have a GAZILLION ice cream flavors, a million soft serve flavors, and even VEGAN ice cream flavors. I was considering switching it up and going for one of their vegan varieties until GF brought to my attention that they have my soul mate ice cream flavor COOKIE MONSTER which I proceeded to order in a cake cone. One scoop was $5.50 or thereabouts. The ice cream is definitely tasty but as GF pointed out, a touch on the sweet side. When we left, the line was wayyyy out the door so I guess timing is everything. Oh my god I will always love Katie's. But!!! I got the root beer vanilla ice cream drink that I was expecting to be a rootbeer float but it wasn't it was BETTER. Don't ask them what the Cape Cod Sand flavor - my guess entry level staffers will now be seasoned top secret government workers after working here. Their Cape Cod Mud has coffee, so we asked if the Sand had coffee too as we didn't want to have any of the kids to sample coffee late at night. Again the stock answer of they cannot disclose anything. The head scratcher it will be if you sample / order. It is delicious but hard to say what it is, it definitely has bits of chocolate, and cookie/crumb dust that makes the sand(it did not taste like coffee). If you are worried about allergies, I doubt they would even reveal much(at least regarding the Cape Cod Sand, they had descriptions for the other flavors). That said, the ice cream is rich and flavorful. It's tight inside to order but there is outside porch with plenty of tables and seats. read more

Food: I went with 3 scoops because I wanted more variety. I went with Cookies & Cream on the bottom (were I normally save the best for last), Cape Cod Sand in the middle and Cookie Monster on top. Each flavor was SO delicious and packed with flavor. You could really taste the love and passion in each bite. I also had them all in a waffle bowl for easier eating and whatever melts just goes right in the bowl... then you taste the flavors all over again!
