Ice Cream here is excellent. Located right across from the inflatable park, this is the perfect place to stop by and grab great ice cream. They even have fun games such as connect four and other lawn games to play after you eat your ice cream. Anyways, I had 3 scoops on a waflle cone. One being extreme chocolate which at this point was basically an entire scoop of fudge brownie which I love, one being chocolate and the other being mocha chip. This combination was excellent and I highly recommend it. Not much you can say about an ice cream place but it is safe to say my party of 6 successfully got all the ice cream we wanted in a reasonable amount of time for a reasonable price. I was very disappointed to bring my niece and nephew to this ice cream place. Only to see that they were chatting with a man that was not wearing a mask while everyone else was. I confronted the man and he said that he was a federal officer saying it was not mandatory for him to wear a mask. I'm a nurse I've worked in a covid unit. And I expressed to him that I've seen people die. I don't understand why the staff was not encouraging him to wear a mask. I don't think it's a very safe place for anyone to go to. I love ice cream and am a proud "ice cream snob". During my week in Cape Cod, I ate ice cream every day (sometimes 2x/day). Each time was a different place.... except here. I *had* to return on my last night and here's why: 1. Lots of flavors to select from - including creative flavors like Campfire S'mores & Extreme Chocolate 2. Big chunks of treats/mix-in's. These folks do not mess around & I love it 3. Fresh, homemade waffle cones. But they take it a step further and put a tiny marshmallow at the bottom (to absorb drips). Yup, that's taking it to a whole new level. 4. Games to amuse little (& big) kids 5. Great service. The staff know the in-and-outs of each flavor. With so many options for ice cream in the area.... We had ice cream two nights on the Cape and Penguins was the better of the choices. My wife had their Coffee Oreo and Strawberry Cheesecake, she really liked them both. You know what, I am updating to five stars. The kind of awkward location and the occasional bland flavor isn't worth costing a star, because the more I come here the more impressed I am. First of all, the sundaes, especially compared to other places on the Cape, are exceptional. There are some places around here that will literally dump hot fudge, whipped cream, and a cherry on anything and call it a "sundae." Penguins actually has creations that are delicious and ginormous. My personal recommendation is the peanut butter penguin sundae with s'mores ice cream. Will not disappoint! Second, they have really upped their game with fun stuff and distractions for kids. You don't really feel like you're standing in a parking lot, because there are skip'its, hoola hoops, ball-in-a-cups, etc. Dog friendly, so bring Poochie and enjoy a puppy sundae. The picnic tables do fill up quickly, so you may have to sit with strangers. Finally, Yelpers should know customer service is particularly weighted in my reviews, and I'm more likely to ignore subjective flaws if the customer service is particularly good. And I am SO impressed with the staff at Penguins. They are a friendly, personable bunch who actually seem to enjoy being at their job (most of the time, hehe). I'm happy that Penguins is my neighborhood ice cream place! I guess the best commendation I can give is that if I ever were to move to another town, I would still drive out of my way for them! :) read more

My wife and I try to stop for ice cream whenever we're on vacation. This was our first trip to Cape Cod in many years and while looking for some ice cream we spotted Penguins Ice Cream Igloo in West Yarmouth. We almost didn't stop because the waiting line stretched halfway across the parking lot.... but that must be a good thing. We waited for our turn and were stunned by the incredible number of flavor choices of hard ice cream! Too hard to decide on one, so we both chose double scoops. My wife got a cone and I got a bowl. The helpings were HUGE and the price - only $5.50 each! Wow!! The lady at the window was very friendly and helpful - the owner, I think. This experience was so pleasant that we went back again the next night. We stopped at another ice cream shop in Sandwich, MA on our way home, but when we saw the price was $7 for a SMALL cup we turned around and left. Penguin is definitely the best! read more

They have the best ice cream flavors ever! Everything is always fresh and yumm. Whenever we visit the area we aim to go there at least 1x or more. :) There are so many great ice cream places on the Cape, but this one definitely rocks my socks. They even make their own waffle cones fresh upon your order! It's cool to watch. Almost always a long line in the late evening hours. Food: About average. Lots of ice cream flavors, though about 5 or 6 were sold out (this was around 2PM on a Friday afternoon). They make their own waffle cones. But the cones were really thick compared to some of the others that I've had, which I wasn't a big fan of. But that part is entirely subjective as I'm sure there are folks who love thicker waffle cones. Ambience: Pretty good. A few tables outside, with two that have umbrellas. Price: On par for the area. I need to confess something: I've never been unhappy after visiting any ice cream shop, ever. That said, I'm finding it hard to describe to you how happy a trip to Penguin's made me! Uhhh you guys, it was so good. It was so good. So good. The day we got Penguin's it was fifty degrees and raining, not exactly ideal ice cream weather, but we were down the Cape, so we were getting ice cream. Walking up to the window to order, I noticed there was a truly massive selection of flavors, which is sometimes great and sometimes intimidating... this was both great and intimidating. I asked to try something that was vanilla ice cream with salty caramel and chocolate covered pretzels, I don't remember what it was called, but it was so good that I then wanted to stand there and ask to taste every other ice cream on the menu! Unfortunately, I have some semblance of self-awareness, and some desire to fit into my jeans tomorrow, so I refrained from trying everything... but when I saw they had birthday cake ice cream and cake batter ice cream, I had to compare those. Both of them were f-ing amazing. I really love Richardson's ice cream, and I'm always happy to read a menu and realize it's Richardson's, but I was equally happy to realize this was not all Richardson's flavors! I rolled up my sleeves, and ordered a medium of the salty caramel and pretzel thing and birthday cake with rainbow sprinkles. (Jimmies for you locals.) I don't remember what the other people in my party ordered because what I ordered was so good that I've died of happiness and am writing this from the afterlife. Go to Penguin's or I will haunt you! No really, I think there were six or seven chocolate covered pretzels in my medium ice cream, which was scooped up quickly and efficiently by a very happy and sweet young man. This is a goofy little ice cream place. It's in a parking lot but they have loads of fun games for kids (of all ages) and a lot of flavors and places to sit. Super friendly and enthusiastic servers who genuinely seemed to be having fun. Good stop if you don't want to drive and are nearby. Also there is a wild beef jerky outlet, yes that's a real thing, right nearby so you can really do some damage to your health all in one stop. read more
