I was pleasantly surprised by my experience at Caffè Nero this morning. When I went to order, I was greeted by a very funny and personable barista. He was honestly the highlight of the experience -- he really made my morning! I ordered a 24 oz latte and pistachio muffin. The muffins had just come out of the oven and were soft and warm (absolutely amazing!). The latte was pretty standard but tasty nonetheless. I appreciated the homey decor and quiet vibe at this location. I had no trouble finding a spot to sit and work for about an hour. Overall, really positive experience here! read more

I always love stopping at Caffè Nero when I am in the Boston area! The ambience and book shelves in this location makes for a laid back vibe. I usually get a sandwhich which they do heat if you ask! I love the caprese baguette and also pictured was a seasonal eggplant baguette, also delicious! Additionally they do have a yummy elderberry vegan tart on occasion. For a drink I usually get a tea, which is good also. This cafe is usually busy but the service is fast and the workers are nice! Overall a great spot to grab a quick snack. read more

Mostly comfortable space to get some laptop work done and of course, they have good coffee. There are a number of booths and tables and comfortable seats as well as a large "community table" and several seats outside. Just one barista working this morning and during the time I was here, he was almost constantly apologizing for stuff being out of stock. That said, my cortado was made properly (steamed milk and espresso) and they had a number of pastries behind glass. Quite classical music going in the background and a very strong air conditioning which was comfortable in the summer. Several power outlets around though you may have to search. This Caffe Nero location is a busy one and unfortunately, may be too understaffed for the amount of patrons they serve here on a daily basis. Lines here form at all times of the day and on really bad days, getting a (mediocre) latte here could be upwards to 20+ minutes. If you're crunched on time, I suggest stopping by somewhere else. The baristas here seem miserable and as a result, provide an unpleasant experience (I've seen them snap back at customers). They make themselves unapproachable and the ordering experience can be hostile sometimes. I don't entirely blame the staff; it may have to do with the immense amount of orders they have to get through without enough help. Each barista takes the order, makes the entire order and cashes the customer out. This process seems to be, in my opinion, very inefficient. However, the few times I've seen Luis, he beams of sunshine and is hard working and kind to all! Keep doing what you're doing Luis because it makes all the (positive) difference! Unfortunately, this is probably one of the worst Neros in the Boston area. Been here several times hoping for things to improve, but service is always very slow and lack-luster. On 2-3 occasions, we were the only customers in line and almost left after waiting several minutes completely ignored by the two people working/cleaning/talking behind the counter. Dunkin Donuts gussied up to look more like a coffee house. But the reality is that it is just a place to slop out sandwiches, baked goods and beverages but with ZERO connection to the neighborhood. Jamaica Plain is a consummate neighborhood for a coffee house. Plenty of students, couples of all ages with no kids, restaurants galore that could provide traffic for deserts at a coffee house. And late evening activities, including dances, theater and other late evening activities that keep the area alive at night. But like a store run with an attitude that is oblivious to the reality of the neighborhood, this place closes at 6 PM. Six O'Clock! An absurdly early hour to close. Especially when the only competition is the other chain, up the street, where at the mothership as it's called, food is mediocre, beverages are so-so and service ranges from okay to crude. The kind of service where the server should tip the customer for helping justify their employment by patronizing the store in the first place. The food at Cafe Nero and beverages are okay. Not great. The ambiance is superficial and ultimately fake. A wall of books but nothing about the business that supports a bookish place. It could feel real if it was run as a coffeehouse. That would mean hours that fit the neighborhood, even events such as (god forbid) poetry readings. But since it is run more as a drive-by sans cars, a tentacle of just another anodyne cookie-cutter chain, a gussied-up McDonalds, the ambiance is irrelevant. read more

Me and my mother ordered a vegan sandwich a banana bread and a turkey sandwich yesterday on uber eats 2/19/2024 and the delivery guy from door dash yesterday left my order outside on the sidewalk and didn't evening call us to let us know that he's here with our food and I had to go outside and grab my food from the outside side walk and they gave me the wrong order and today I gave them another chance we ordered food from caffe nero door dash again on 2/20/2024 and the delivery guy didn't give me my order I had to meet him out side again to get the order and then when I receive the food my sandwich was not hot and tasty at all it was cold and soggy and my bread was burnt and the coffee wasn't so tasty at all it has no flavor in it I wont be ordering from caffe nero from door dash no more no time soon read more

I don't know how a chain like this could get away with horrible coffee. It seems like there is no standard enforced to their coffee products. (The JP place is spacious and location is great. The restroom is scary.) As to their coffee--I tried their coffees in Cambridge, Brookline, and Jamaica Plain branches. The ones in Cambridge and JP are usually staffed by inattentive people who would rather be elsewhere and various kinds of coffee and espresso drinks were a shame. Brookline coffee was okay compared to Cambridge and JP but it's still not what one would consider good. I traveled to London, UK and went in one of their branches there, it's the closest to a decent cup of cappuccino but it's still far from a good coffee vs other chains or independent coffee places in, say, a random cafe in Houston, TX or Bistro Robert in South End of Boston or Recreo in West Rox. read more

Despite an impressive menu and comfortable layout, their weekday morning/lunch service leaves something to be desired and several of their baristas would most charitably be described as unprofessional - on their best day. Their frequently long lines suggest they have serious staffing issues, which also explains why those baristas have yet to be fired. Very fixable problem once better talent comes along. Unfortunately, their service has become such a running joke in our office that we encourage our staff to seek breakfast, lunch, or coffee elsewhere despite our proximity to this location. The worst customer experience on Sunday morning around 0930 Christmas eve. The staff on today minus a manager. They tried to charge me for a yogurt 450 when was posted as 3.95 clearly said 395. The girl behind the counter said because there was no manager and all the prices went up. There's nothing she could do and could not charge me 395 but only charged 450 it seem like she was making up prices. I did not buy it. No one in the store knew what they were doing and a male sales person with dreads started swearing dropping F bombs. They taunted me when my card initially declined because of a technical Error. I would never go back to the store again and I'll be contacting state. Please avoid this place. I gave them a bad review five years ago and it seems like it's never improved. Loved this place... sat here for hours doing work and reading. The esthetics are awesome. You feel like your in a old library in a mansion. Couches were leather, old posters and painting. Just a bunch of cool antique looking sh*t. And the coffee was good. Had an Americano. Thumbs up. Also had a breakfast sandwich: he was def frozen and reheated - I usually don't go for those but I was hungry and didn't feel like leaving That's how they get ya But it was satisfying. How can you not like the living room feel of their space and the ham and cheese croissants that are shipped from France (or so they told me). After coming here, I realize that not all Caffe Nero's are the same. I feel lucky that this one is in my neighborhood because it's absolutely one of my favorite coffeeshops in Boston. I love the cozy, tavern-vibe of this spot. The dark wood furniture and warm lighting sets the mood for an afternoon with your favorite book in one hand and a hot cup of coffee in the other (and maybe a tasty chocolate muffin too because why not? You deserve it). I love the variety of seating options here. You have your choice from big lounge chairs by the fireplace for those dates with old friends, to the long community tables for getting some work done over the weekend. Aside from coffee, they also serve a good selection of teas, sandwiches, and small bites. I could honestly set up in the morning and stay here for an entire day! My gripes ~ 1) some of the items are mega expensive in my opinion. I just don't understand why a small croissant has to cost $3 when I could get a dozen regularly sized ones from Costco for a little more than that. I would understand if they made the pastries in-house but they do not. I asked once and it turns out, Caffe Nero orders them from another company. 2) The seating by the dirty cups/dishes is often populated by flies. I think this is pretty untidy and could put a bad taste in someone's mouth -- and by "bad taste", I mean the taste of a fly, zipping into your mouth hole the moment you yawn too widely. Made my first, but not last, visit to this awesome Cafe! First and foremost the entire staff was so friendly and welcoming. I had my dog, Loki, with me and they were kind enough to let me carry him in with me so I could order a desperately needed coffee and picnic lunch. Then they all all cooed over and pet him ( yes, they all washed up right after) which made his day. Thank you all My late was perfect and my caprese sandwich was out of this world good! Such a cozy spot to study! There are lots of tables and couches to plop down on. Even some seating next to a cute fireplace. The food itself is pricey and small though. A small sandwich will run you around $8-$9 and is just okay. Make sure to eat before you come study/chat. There's free WiFi, limited to 3 hours per day. And I've never had a problem so far finding a seat. But I also have no problem sharing a booth or sitting right next to strangers lol. The workers are super friendly! Stopped here for a coffee after my run and found it a bustling spot of people catching up and enjoying a relaxing morning. I was impressed by the variety of the display case and would come back to try some of the gluten free treats some day. I ordered a soy cappuccino with cocoa sprinkles to go but unfortunately left with a dairy filled drink and didn't notice until too late. Sadly my dairy allergy kicked in and I wasn't able to enjoy the rest of the drink but my friends who took over said it was delicious. From what I could tell the espresso was dark and smooth. The barista offered for cocoa or cinnamon sprinkle several times which I assumed was a sweet seasonal offer but during check out this was charged extra which I also didn't notice until walking away. Waited half-an-hour for my and my friend's mobile orders -- just two drinks. We would have never received said drinks, most likely, had I not asked the barista if their online ordering process was working. It was, and she pulled out a long string of receipts that were neglected under the cash register. I can't and won't blame her, of course; she was serving a moderately busy Sunday coffee shop afternoon alone, with the occasional help of one other barista. So, I get it on her end. Just severely understaffed. The place is cute, and we were surrounded by happy customers sipping on their drinks that they had ordered in-person to the barista. It was just the mobile orders being forgotten, unfortunately. As for the drinks, my friend's desired smoothie never came to be. They had two of the three flavors completely unavailable, leaving her with one she didn't particularly enjoy (especially after being convinced she would get a promotional free first drink, then didn't, then thought her drink was never coming, and then had me confront the barista, who then referred her to another barista, who then relayed the bad news about the flavors). This one-star is mostly in her honor. My iced chai was pretty good. I'm sure I'd be willing to give another chance once the "I just waited 30 minutes for two drinks while other a dozen people who ordered after me get theirs" feeling wears off. While apartment hunting in JP, I stopped in here for a little pick-me-up. While their menu is generally similar to the menu at Starbucks, every single aspect of the visit was better than any visit to Starbucks. Also I must admit that I don't understand 90% of the Starbucks menu, just what I order. The very pleasant barista behind the counter offered me her favourite selection, and I went for it. Double shot vanilla latte, coming up. The latte looked enormous and the swirl in the foam was lovely. I had some time to kill so I scouted out a private table and cracked my epically large book. I looked around for a moment and thought, "Wow I'm so cool!" Then I took a sip of the frothy beverage and was transported to my happy place.
