Wow. This was the absolute best Italian restaurant I have ever been to, and I've made my way to Carbone before. I see this place all over foodie instagrams and have heard rave reviews from all over. Every photo makes me salivate, which is what i did im during my entire meal here. I invited a friend along for a Saturday evening dinner, and we made our way over to Brooklyn. It was easy to make a reservation, and we were able to choose where we sat. It was 70 and sunny, so we sat ourselves outdoors and it was an amazing experience. The service was divine, and the food and wine came out quickly. We chose a bottle of wine to go with our dishes, and we both got the choose your sauce/pasta option. Vodka sauce with rigatoni and mozz for me, the same but fusilli for my friend. Form the first bite, I was transported to heaven. I have never had pasta this good every anywhere. I literally want to have this for every meal now. It took everything in us not to finish the healing servings they gave us, and we vowed to make a standing res here! I'd also like to make a point that my friend is Italian and grew up making Sunday sauce and pasta with her family and she only raved about this place. This neighborhood Italian spot is great! The price is really right - lots of dishes with seafood for under $30. We came here for my boyfriend's birthday and enjoyed ourselves. We opted for outdoor seating, which is in front of the restaurant, but Montague Street is pretty quiet and it's far enough down the block from the court buildings in Downtown Brooklyn that noise was not an issue. We started with the burrata from the Specials menu, it was on par with typical burrata. I got the linguine lobster (substituted penne no problem, just personal preference), it was absolutely delicious with lobster and pancetta in a creamy sauce. So savory. My boyfriend got the seafood linguine, which came with shrimp, mussels, clams, and calamari, and he enjoyed that. They have a pretty standard dessert/coffee menu that you'll find at most Italian restaurants. All in all, a delicious spot on a quiet street in Brooklyn Heights. The only thing that would make it better is if service was a little bit quicker as the night went on--after we got our entrees we were a little bit forgotten for a while. We will be back. read more

The Brooklyn Heights location just isn't very good in terms of quality of food. Service was great and the ambiance is nice for a group of 4 or less. But we ordered three of the pastas and they were all bland. I ordered an Alfredo pasta and the sauce was extremely heavy but bland. It tasted like the sauce was made from Parmesan from a can, instead of real Parmesan cheese from a block, and used unsalted instead of salted butter. The home made crab ravioli is served with shrimp and spinach and, weirdly, diced tomatoes? Yes, in the cream sauce. Both dishes were great, with the crab ravioli taking the cake. Service was spotty, there wasn't anything really wrong with it, it just took much longer for most things to be done. Our glasses of water stayed empty from appetizers up until we were done with our entrees. Only refilled when we requested. We also had to flag them down for the check. Probably busy due to the event, but better planning would have been appreciated. We were the only customers dining the entire time while they event prepped. Located on the famous Montague street in Brooklyn , this place is your classic Italian restaurant . From the exterior the decor was very relaxing. During the warmer months they offer outside dining , where they have comfortable seats and clean tables. As you walk inside there is a nice bar , which was pretty busy and more than enough tables to host a party if you'd like. Upon entering man greeted me , looked like he was the manager or boss. They offer a delicious pre-fixe menu for $28 that includes appetizers, a main course, and dessert. They also offered my favorite black linguine - which was al dente - now if you have never tried like link weenie, the ingredients to black linguine is made with squid ink. They made a wonderful black linguine. This was shown by the curls in the linguine itself. It is rare to find a restaurant that makes their homemade black linguine- especially making it well. I was surprised about the delicious dish! For an appetizer we order the shrimps and scallops. The shrimp and scallop was made to order. For dessert we ordered the lemon meringue pie, and the classic tartufo. All in all, the food was delicious. However the huge downfall to this restaurant and the atmosphere was the lack of service. The service was horrible, I had three different waiters wait my table, and they did not communicate with each other. They were very forgetful of my order, and even gave me the wrong dessert. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted and sat at a corner table alone. The music was right up my alley and included all the classic 90s R&B hits. Very chill and the perfect vibe I was looking for to distress from a crazy few weeks at work. This one my first time dining alone at a table at a restaurant and they made me feel very comfortable as I sipped my wine and sang along in my seat. Looooove caffe buon gusto and have been the UES location multiple times for the gnocchi with vodka sauce. I live in fidi, so decided to check out the brooklyn location, given it's closer proximity. I was a little nervous due to some of the poor reviews, but decided to give it a shot anyways. My bf and I ended up loving this location more than the one in the UES! One, it is closer to my apt, so it was a lot easier to get to and the location additionally is about double or triple the size, so it was very easy to get a table! They have the same, complimentary pizza bread as the location in the UES to start your meal. This location had dinner specials where you could choose an appetizer, main, and dessert for about $30--great deal! I think the prices here overall are a couple of dollars less as well. I ordered the gnocchi with spicy vodka sauce as usual and it did not disappoint! the consistency/texture was a little different from the UES location. The ones in the UES are very squishy and pillowy--the ones at this location were more formed, and delicious in their own way! Would highly recommend checking this place out! read more

Just your average Italian restaurant. Nothing too special about it. I had the meat lasagna which was very good as it came out on a skillet so it was nice and hot. My friend had one of the lunch specials which included an appetizer (he choose shrimp wrapped in bacon), an entree with a side (he choose the Romana and pasta), and a desert (he choose the cheese cake). I'm not a fan of bacon but I still enjoyed the appetizer. His desert was also well done, a bit small though. The bread the came with our appetizer was also a bit stale. We dined outside which was very nice. His meal cost about $22.00 and mine cost about $15.00 which seemed pretty reasonable. I would revisit if I was in the area but I would not go out of my way for it. Although I think it would be a good spot to take visiting parents and the like. We've been ordering from Buon Gusto for over a year and a half and really like the quality of food and quick delivery (on average 20 to 30 minutes later than the time stated). We have even been inside the restaurant and everybody was very friendly, both for dining at the bar and ordering takeout. This was at their old location. However, in recent weeks the quality, delivery time and customer service has gone down. They stopped including bread with entrees, and do not regularly answer the phone. Tonight, we had ordered a side of tortellini pasta with our meal and it was never delivered. This was an option that was through the app and even included in the receipt. When I called the restaurant the manager Mario said that they would be losing money if they offered tortellini with their salads. I explained to him that this should not be offered if they are unwilling to honor what the menu and order states. If I had known, I would have ordered more food. On September 3 we waited two hours and finally gave up since the food was never delivered and no one answered the phone. Seamless was also not able to get in touch with the restaurant. I just found out today that the restaurant was actually closed but somehow someone excepted the delivery order on their end. It is also less expensive to order through seamless delivery than to order pick up from the restaurant. 10 to 20% difference in fact. That makes no sense. I am sure they will change all of their prices and make it unreasonable to order delivery after taking note of all of my complains. I shared all of these recent issues with Mario the manager and he only came up with excuses as to why this is GrubHub / seamless's fault and never once offered an apology or a courtesy being that I have been a regular customer for over a year and a half. I finally said to him if he's not going to do the right thing then I'm going to hang up the phone because my dinner is getting cold and he continued to talk about how they would lose money if they honored what was on the actual order. This is not customer service. I am very disappointed. read more

Given the prices, I didn't expect to be floored by Cafe Buon Gusto, but I didn't expect to be gravely disappointed, either. I often wait for a second or even third visit before posting reviews, but since I will probably never go back unless I'm trying to get off the street and hide from an armed pursuer, this first one will have to suffice. Let's call it what it is. It's an Italian restaurant with white tablecloths, where the tablecloths are covered with paper. I could probably stop there. We started by ordering some mid-table bottle of Italian red, which they did not have. Instead, we were offered a similarly priced $50 bottle of Chianti which didn't quite measure up to any of the currently available $4.99 bottles at Trader Joe's. It was very "fresh", and might have paired well with the cruet of rosemary olive oil on the table and some sea salt to dress a plate of field greens. For appetizers, I ordered the stracciatella, and my partner chose an octopus salad over arugula with a light lemon dressing. The salad was really the stand out of the meal, and was prepared genuinely well. The soup was watery, lacked seasoning, and was improved with the addition of aforementioned olive oil and the stingy bits of ice cold focaccia that came with the table. Ice cold as in straight from a fridge. For entrees, I decided on the supposedly housemade crab ravioli with shrimp, in a cream sauce, and she ordered pan seared scallops with shrimp. Here, the breakdown was compete. The shrimp and scallops were deep fried, not pan fried, and though the scallops were cooked perfectly, all the shrimp were clearly dropped at the same time, and were cooked to leathery, inedible oblivion. The ravioli may or may not have been, in fact, housemade - they had excellent flavor and the crab was prominent - but some of the pasta was excessively al dente, meaning undercooked, which tells me they had been frozen. They were immersed in a distinctly not Italian bath of lobsterish-bisque which while delicious, was cloying. That dish went largely untouched. Nobody asked how anything was, which would be basic courtesy when someone fails to eat their food. So either they know, don't care, or both. So, that is the tale of the inappropriately named Cafe Buon Gusto. It's a sad one, but blessedly brief, and not to be repeated. read more

The food overall was good. A few changes I'd make in the future. As always we got the crabmeat ravioli - been a fan for years. It's hands-down the best dish on the menu at both locations. The creaminess of the sauce with the perfection of the shrimp on top - I could dream about it. Our appetizer was the baby octopus which was excellent. It was a soft and a little chewy and was served with cherry tomatoes. I ordered the Penna alla vodka (of course served with extra Parmesan cheese because I'm only human) and my father ordered the linguini lobster which was also very good (he wasn't very willing to share). For dessert if you're feeling adventurous I highly recommend the poached pear with corte sauce. It's a bit unusual for a dessert but it's definitely a required taste. It's a poached pear sliced in half and boiled in corte (red wine). It's served with whipped cream that contains a slight orange rind taste. It's very good and definitely deserves an opportunity. I've never been to Italy, so I missed out on all the three-hour 15-course meals my study-abroad friends raved about, but if I ever wanted a three-hour 15-course meal, I'd want to eat it here. My boss loves this place and I can see why: the ambiance is nice and simple (stencils of statues on the walls), the waiters were attentive and very, very good about refilling my water (the glass was never half empty), and my La Fritatta (three-ingredient omlette with roast potatoes) was pretty delicious for the price. Eggs nice and fluffy. They do roast potatoes right - crispy to the point of burnt on the outside, nice tongue-melting hot on the inside. I'd like to come back and try their homemade pastas, which run the gamut from $10.95 (linguini, penne, rigatoni with your choice of sauce) to the special pastas with seafood ($15.95 range). Don't forget to flip one of the laminated menus over - they have a special menu of paninis (I guess for the lunch crowd), most of which are $10.95 and below. They were on the tiny side (like seriously three big bites and you would be done with half) and come with a little pile of salad, but the combinations sounded so good - salmon and pesto, proscuitto and mozz, and more. Desserts are awesome. I think we ordered two and then got three more on the house, and it's this customer service that gets CBG over the three-star hump. We had the chocolate souffle, chocolate tartufo, tiramisu, fruit tart, and the risotto cheesecake, which was my absolute favorite. Not too sweet but still rich. I'd definitely come back here for a late brunch of pasta and a few glasses of wine with friends. I got lucky on Thursday looking for a nice Italian restaurant in Downtown Brooklyn. I was going to have dental work later that day and since my Dentist told me to eat a good meal prior to having the work done, I figured I'd treat myself to some pasta. The staff at Caffe Buon Gusto was on point! They were quite nice, and very, very attentive. I didn't make reservations, was seated immediately and offered the lunch menu. There were so many things to choose from, my head was spinning. I ended up with the Penne pasta and Alfredo sauce. And since I couldn't decide if I wanted sausage or meatballs on the side, I chose both. I knew I would end up with enough food for two or three meals. I very rarely eat all my of food anywhere I eat, plus it's an excellent way to economize. The meatballs were ok, but the Pasta with Alfredo sauce and sausage were so good I couldn't stop smiling. The hostess offered and added Parmesan and pepper to my dish, which made it even better. You would have thought I never eaten good food before. I also drank a small glass of white wine with my meal. I shouldn't have, but it really took the edge off and calmed my nerves before that dental work. I'm glad I did, it was really good. And I totally forgot to ask what kind of wine it was. I'll admit, I know absolutely nothing about Italian food. I tried to look up the plates I had but for whatever reason the site menu wasn't the exact same as in the restaurant so I apologize in advance e-e I went to this place to celebrate the completion of my internship with a few of my supervisors. I found it to be nice little place. We were led to our seats and were talking for a bit while trying to look at the menu. One of the things I noticed was that we had to call for the bread basked to be brought to us after a whiiile, which rarely happens (usually servers will quickly pull the sucker out). I don't know if they were waiting for us to decide on our orders, but it kind of made me feel weird to sit there for maybe 10-15 minutes for bread. Anyways, I personally ended up getting their lunch Prix Fixe which came with appetizer+entree+dessert. - Appetizer was jumbo shrimp wrapped in bacon; it was good, but I will say the shrimp seemed a bit overcooked. People might be bothered by the fact that it's only three shrimp and then the little greens and tomato in between. I didn't mind that much (maybe an extra shrimp?), but at the same time I did eat half of the bread basket on my own. so. - Entree: this is where my memory fails me. It was some sort of lasagna-ish dish with a lottt of cheese (see picture). It was pretty good, and when the entrees came out the hostess came by asking if we wanted fresh cheese or pepper on our stuff which was nice. I personally could not eat all of it because all the cheese and pasta filled me up fast. -Dessert was Tiramisu. I took this to go since we had to get back to the office, but it was good. Not the best, but decent :) I'm not around that area of Brooklyn anymore, but overall if I had the chance to go back I would, mostly for the lunch prix fixe! Very cute backyard with adequate spacing between tables. The food and drinks were kind of bland.

Just as good as their location in the UES! Wow - amazing pasta. We had the gnocchi alla vodka and the fettuccini alla bolognese. I'd highly recommend both. This location is much bigger than the UES one, but with the same charm and great service. read more
