Hmm.. Fragole means Strawberry in Italian.. I wonder why the owners decided on this name??? I decided to look for different meanings of Strawberry: "Often represents the ephemerality of earthly pleasures in art, or love and romance (linked to Venus)". Well Italians are known for cooking with love, utilizing the best ingredients from earth and there is pleasure in eating delicious food.. Yes, eating at Fragole is molto bene! Fragole is a landmark restaurant on Court Street and for a good reason: deliciously prepared comfort food. My friend and I came with a hearty appetite: three courses for us: appetizer, entree and dessert. Fragole offers scrumptious options for appetizers: salads, soup of the day, polenta, mixed vegetables, calamari, carpaccio to name a few. I must say, a really nice variety to choose from. First, the delicious warm bread for the table that is served with a roasted plum tomato, Kalamata olive tapenade. Knocked our socks off! We decided to share the Cavolo Nero salad which contains Tuscan kale, apples, crispy pancetta, walnuts, croutons with Caesar dressing. We substituted the kale for mixed greens. The salad was perfect; somehow adding apples and walnuts really jazzes up a salad. Also, the dressing is light so not to overpower the ingredients. Highly recommend! We both wanted to order two different pastas but decided on the Rigatoni Firenze with rigatoni, roasted eggplant, melted mozzarella, fresh basil in a tomato sauce. Yowza! Delicious! My friend came close to ordering the Lasagna with béchamel ( traditional way to prepare lasagna) but changed her mind.. next time! We finished it off with Tiramisu.. something about those soaked lady fingers.. absolutely amazing! The menu also offers eggplant parmigiana, grilled steak and salmon ( smelled divine, that garlic!) The decor is very rustic, intimate, cozy.. the bar is a nice place to sit if dining solo. The service was excellent, accommodating and professional. "Mamma and the chef are always right. Incredibly cozy neighborhood spot that will have you leaving satisfied. I've dined here countless times since my first review as well as ordered for delivery a gazillion times. The staff here are extremely nice. They go out of their way to accommodate patrons. Not only did I attend a recent Yelp event here, but I'm very familiar with the menu which occasionally changes. They'll present a dish to their daily specials menu and on occasion, that dish becomes permanent on their standard menu. We decided to have a semi late dinner here last night. Staff were welcoming as was Claudio, one of the owners. Through the years, I tend to think some of their dishes incorporated an Argentinian influence which is Claudio's background. And it works. Avoiding fried foods, a request to convert Chicken Milanese (which traditionally fries the chicken cutlet) to a grilled style was received favorably. I paired my meal with a delicious Reisling and when the dishl was brought to the table, it looked too beautiful to eat. Substantial grilled Chicken cutlets lay beneath a copious amount of baby Arugula and diced tomatoes. In fact, it was smothered. So very delicious with a suggestion to Claudio to add this dish to the menu. I left having a delicious meal while feeling healthy. And by the way, their homemade dinner rolls are SO good. I went to this quaint Italian place a few months ago with three other people, having passed by several times during one of my many walks but not having gone in. The inside was well lit, and the food overall was good with a particularly good risotto special, though I personally preferred Italian food from a few of the other spots in Carroll Gardens and Cobble Hill. The Bruschetta Alla Pizzaiola for $12.95 had fresh melted mozzarella, tomatoes, basil, and extra virgin olive oil on grilled homemade bread. It was pretty good, being fresh tasting with a nice texture for the bruschetta. The mozzarella was alright, along with the tomatoes, and in general, I probably would have preferred the Classica version instead, but it was still good. From the specials menu, I ordered the Risotto for $22.95 with crumbled Italian sausage, wild mushrooms, spinach, and tomato paste, which was excellent. The risotto had a particularly good texture, and I am surprised that they don't have a risotto section on the menu (possibly it would be a bit hard to cook multiple types or something.) The dish was mostly earthy from the mushrooms and a bit spiced and rich from the sausage, but the tomatoes added some much-needed brightness. I know the special changes, but I would still recommend it based on this dish alone. Outside of my risotto, two other people had pasta, and the other person had the daily fish special, and they seemed to enjoy their meal. Since Italian Food is my favorite, I was curious to try this place for dinner last week before heading home after work. Fragole is close to the F, G, Carroll Street Train Station. I had a Margarita & and Aeperol Spritz ($16). The complimentary bread basket had bread paried w/ a Olive - flavored dipping sauce. I ordered Rigatoni Bolognese & a side order of Grilled Vegetables. Everything was good. Claudio provided great attentive customer service. He is friendly, greeted me w/ a warm smile & made one if the best Aeperol Spritz Cocktails that I have ever had. The food at Fragole is outstanding. It's so delicious that even though our service wasn't the best recently, I'm overlooking it because the food made up for it. On our recent visit, we ate mainly from the specials menu. We had what I believed to be trout with mashed potatoes and asparagus and for a second dish we had risotto with mushrooms. We also shared a brussels sprouts salad and a pana cotta. Truly outstanding. What I hope is the servers were just having an off night and we're either understaffed or dealing with some unknown challenge because things were not handled as well as I think they could've been. read more

we had a nice early dinner / late lunch here today and it was amazing. The waiter was just the best to us, and was so attentive to our needs. We had the best muscles and sausage and brockli rabb on Earth, compliments to the chef, it was one of the best muscles appetizers ever. Our pasta dishes were amazing as well. The doors were open and the breeze was blowing in, everything was just so perfect for our little meal. We will absolutely go back again and recommend to friends. We decided to stop by during the weekend. The service was outstanding, and everyone in our group loved both the food and the cocktails. When we arrived for dinner, it was quite busy, but Victor greeted us with a smile and quickly rearranged the outdoor tables no complaints making sure we felt fully accommodated. The food was delicious, and when we mentioned we were in town for the half marathon, they kept our water glasses topped off and even joked about staying hydrated. We returned the next night for cocktails, and the experience was just as excellent everyone was friendly, knowledgeable, and happy to help us choose. Wonderful service with fresh and tasty food. On our first visit, our group had Di Tonno panini (tuna), Di melanzane caprese panini (eggplant), Di prosciutto panini (prosciutto), fries were included with the paninis, and the Cotoletta Di Melanzane (fried eggplant and salad). Our second visit we had the Rigatoni Firenze which was pasta, mozzarella, and eggplant. It was very good. We also had the fettuccine con funghi e spinaci, which was pasta with mushrooms and spinach. Dined at Fragole a few weeks ago and I keep meaning to leave a review and forgetting, so it goes. Service was great, I believe his name was Santiago, I ordered an unconventional off menu cocktail and he did a great job even though he was unfamiliar with it. Had the mushroom polenta to start, followed by a steak and chicken parm. Thoroughly enjoyed everything, and also appreciated the enthusiasm of the (I'm assuming) manager/owner who brought it out. I always appreciate when people take pride in what they do. The ambience was what first brought us in, as my wife and I had been wandering around cobble hill for a couple hours and I was disappointed by the very uniform, sterile look of all the restaurants and cafes we passed. It's difficult to explain, but everything had this corporate, unfriendly sheen, so when I looked through the window at fragole and saw the brick walls, low warm lighting, and dark wood fixtures I was sold. I'm not sure when it became such anathema for a restaurant to have character, but I was thrilled to see an establishment that isn't afraid to look like it's been around longer than a week. Decided to go here when we weren't able to get a spot at Lucali and it wasn't a bad consolation prize at all. The food was good, although out of the dishes my favorite was honestly the bruschetta. The Linguine Nere was definitely tasty, though I feel like the squid ink pasta mostly added a visual contrast rather than any noticeable difference in texture or flavor. I didn't try the spaghetti and meatballs, but my friend said it was "about as good as something I could make at home." Tiramisu was pretty standard tiramisu, so nothing to complain about there. To start off, they gave us some complimentary bread, but we also got an order of the Pizzaiola Bruschetta ($10.95). It came with three pieces, which was decent (I'm just personally not a fan of bruschetta). For the main entree, I ordered the Spaghetti Carbonara ($19.95) while the boyfriend got the Bistecca Alla Griglia ($25.95). Both of these dishes were great, but I am obsessed with how cheesy that carbonara was. This is easily one of my favorite carbonaras and I'm glad to have found this spot. If we had popped by any later than 6:30 pm on a Saturday night sans reservation, I don't think we would have gotten seated right away. They were only able to give us seats at the bar because the other tables were all reserved, so we reluctantly took the offer. Although it was a little difficult to have a conversation with a group of four like that, it was great being right in front of the bartender. He was extremely friendly and kept checking up on us. At the end of the night he even gave us limoncello shots. If you're into subtly sweet drinks with almost no alcohol taste, go for the lavender (bellini?) - probably my fav drink in the whole world now. Calamari - I usually only like fried calamari but the flavoring of this was *chefs kiss* Rigatoni bolognese- the bartender said this is one of their most popular menu items. Fragole seems like it would be a reliable spot for no frills Italian. I liked the variety in their pasta menu so it was hard to make a decision, but I ultimately went with the linguine nere. It was delicious and cooked perfectly, lots of flavor and a good amount of heat. The only thing I wish had a little more attention to detail was the complimentary bread and olive tapenade.
