Im not normally much of a brunch person but I've been to Ottava's brunch a few times and it's just really satisfying. Brunch is always overpriced but at least the portions are pretty large and the food is always cooked well. Plus the restaurant is just cute and service is friendly -- I love that giant wooden bar inside, it's so rad. Plenty of nice outdoor seating too. Usually I order the Ottava Breakfast, which is avocado toast and eggs and bacon and hash -- very good, hits all of the brunch spots. But recently I had the kale florentine which was pretty delicious. English muffins and poached eggs and bacon and kale... it's a lot! But it's good. If I'm paying over $20 for eggs I wanna feel full. All in all a great little neighborhoody spot. Maybe one day I'll try the pizza. read more

This is the most scenic and beautifully lit bar in Park Slope hands down! My wife and I sat at the bar and ordered pint of Pilsner and a glass of organic white wine - we ordered a margarita pizza as well - the bartender was friendly and the atmosphere was buzzing with people which was fun - the service was excellent and attentive- the total was $65 with tip so kind of expensive but every now and again for the old school bar and marble counters it makes for a nice evening out - better when the outdoors is open but cozy and warm in the Winter read more

It had been a while since I last had Ottava. I used to have a friend who lived in Park Slope, and we'd either order from here or dine in pretty often. When restaurants started reopening after the shutdowns, Ottava was actually one of the first places I did outdoor dining at. So coming back this month felt a bit like a homecoming and it tasted just as good as I remembered. I ordered the Salsiccia (fior di latte mozzarella, house-made sausage, olives) pizza, and it was cooked to perfection. My friend went with the Margherita (fior di latte mozzarella, fresh basil, EVOO), and I had a slice. Equally delicious. Even though it was pretty busy for a Friday night, the service was excellent, and the staff checked in on us regularly. Now that my friend no longer lives in Park Slope, I'll have to make more of an effort to come back to Ottava. They never miss. read more

Loved our experience at Ottava for dinner! We were seated immediately (the host even held our table for us while we finished our drinks at the bar next door). The inside is smallish but SUPER cute. Felt very chic and classy. Beautiful bar, too. We ordered the margarita pizza, which was delicious and the tomato sauce tasted super fresh, and the Gorgonzola pizza which I was obsessed with. Strong Gorgonzola flavor, fresh arugula, crispy thin crust. Seriously 10/10. The rice balls were tasty but could use a little more cheese. The corn in them made them feel more summery which I liked. The tiramisu was a gigantic slice and super creamy. I would have preferred more lady fingers to cream ratio but my husband loved it. Highly recommend and will return! read more

I've been to Ottava 3 times now and now I'm sure it's the best restaurant in Brooklyn! THE BEST PANCAKES IN THE WORLD!!!! Amazing pizza, unbelievable drinks, nice eggs, great tiramisu, really nice service (quick food and polite waiter) and chill atmosphere!!! So underrated, it should have at least 1 or 2 Michelin stars but sadly it doesn't even have a mention. read more

Food (4/5): - We ordered a carbonara pizza - The pizza was definitely on the smaller side for New York pizzas. However, it was pretty tasty, and it's still a pretty shareable plate. I shared this pizza with another friend and I found it to be pretty filling on its own - My favorite part of the pizza was the dough/crust. Pizza dough is usually not something I even care about, but their dough had such a beautiful, chewy, light texture that I kept reaching for more of the crust! Service (4.5/5): - They were kind, friendly, and quick - We were a bit confused about seating at first because no one was at the door to direct us to our seat so we awkwardly waited by the front door for a good 5-10 min - Eventually, someone did notice us and get us to our seat Ambiance (5/5): - It's a beautiful, local restaurant that's perfect for catching up with friends or taking someone out on a first date - I love the decoration and the overall cozy ambiance this restaurant gives off Overall, I will be back! read more

When in the area, we stopped in for brunch. There is a ton of outdoor seating on the side of the restaurant which was quiet and perfect for a summer Sunday brunch. Major points for being toddler/kid friendly though there is no kid specific menu. Service was attentive but it did feel like it took awhile for our drinks and coffee to come out, followed by our entrees immediately served after. As this place has a huge bar, they had a bunch of great summer brunch cocktails which we all really liked. Highly recommend! My entree was the Norwegian Benedict that came with smoked salmon. It came with a side of greens and a potato pancake for $18. It was hearty enough and I am a fan of all things Benedict especially with salmon. It was definitely a good Benedict with a good runny egg. The potato was a bit tough but all in all a good option. I ordered the Ottava breakfast for $15 for my toddler so she could have eggs. The avocado toast, potato pancake, bacon, and the rest went to the rest of us. I selfishly wish we could have just ordered a side of eggs instead but the menu is a bit limited with only about 7 main brunch dishes and some pizzas, no sides or small dish options. All in all- it was a great brunch, just keep in mind this isn't a cheap option. For 3 adults, 1 toddler, and a baby (who didn't eat) - it was $121 before tip. read more

I'm surprised this spot only has 10 reviews (maybe it's new?), and I was equally surprised that it was fairly empty on a Saturday when I went for brunch, because the food was delicious! On the other hand, I'm selfishly not mad it wasn't busy - because it was empty, my friends and I felt comfortable eating indoors which was wonderful on a cold day, and even when another table showed up there was space to seat them multiple tables away from us. I started with a Bloody Mary and it was great - tasty with a little kick from the horseradish. We ordered the carbonara pizza for the table and I thought it was excellent. It has a great flavor and the dough was very good. I particularly loved the duck prosciutto on top. For my meal, I ordered the prosciutto eggs benedict which I definitely thought were way above average - the egg was deliciously poached, the prosciutto was flavorful, and the bread was perfectly toasted. On top of that, the potato hash was delicious - I'm not the biggest breakfast potato person unless they're in the form of hash browns so this hash brown patty/chunk was perfect. The salad was a tasty and healthy touch too. I'd definitely return and hope this review helps them get more busy! read more

Came here for dinner last Saturday and it did not disappoint. The restaurant is so cute inside and the vibe is great for a date - too bad I was there with my cousin. We started off with the fried calamari and seafood which comes with the most delicious aioli. We shared the mushroom pizza which was also very tasty with a crust that is perfectly charred and chewy. The best part of our meal was the tiramisu which is probably one of the best I've ever had. I would go back to the restaurant just for the tiramisu! read more

Feels fancy, great for date night or catching up, without being too formal. They have indoor and outdoor seating. We walked in and sat at the bar as a party of 6 and enjoyed our time. They have a large selection of interesting pizzas. We also got skirt steak, branzino, a burger- all were pretty good. read more

Lovely outdoor seating. Walked by many times before eating here. It's like a little fairy land seating area with the twinkle lights on a brownstone block. My 17 year old son & husband loved their pollo salad. They said the fried chicken was perfection. There were a couple screaming kids (not the restaurants fault. Not anyone's fault-just sayin'). IMO, I wouldn't take a little kid here. Though they have pizza, this is gourmet pizza. You pay for it and it's worth it, but it would be wasted on little kids. It's more of a cocktail, gourmet brick oven pizza place with duck & truffles... that kind of thing. Kids would be happier at Johnny Macs, across the st. Service was great :) read more

Yummm! Went here with a few friends for a spontaneous dinner and it looked good. We ordered the arancini, fritto misto, the mushroom pizza, and the carbonara pizza. All were incredibly delicious. Arancini delivers the promised flavors and are moist, the fritto misto is a great blend of types of seafood and has flavor to the breading, and the pizza dough is the perfect level of chew. They've got a ton of great outdoor seating and we LOVED our waitress. Highly recommend. read more

I love the Italian-esque decor. Simple with euro class. Excellent negroni. Well made, fresh kale salad. We got the pizza which got good reviews but it was just okay. Sauce was kinda salty. Crust didn't really hit. Worth a stop in. Staff was very accommodating. read more

this was one of my testing the waters with gluten nights and let me tell you, i do have a tummy ache, but what i don't have: regrets! two important things to note in the review: 1) eat outside if the weather is nice (because what is better than enjoying pizza outside on a beautiful summer night) but go inside to check out the glamorous and transformative aesthetic 2) get the olives and let me know if you agree with the ranking (black, green, pink) We got the MELANZANE pizza and the Mercato salad and it was the perfect amount of food. i will say that anything with lemon at this restaurant, really seems to lay on the lemon. the salad was really just okay. nothing to go crazy about. the pizza was good, but i would want to try another one. it has all the potential for an amazing pizza, i maybe just didn't love this exact combo of flavors - really inventive menu and i'm excited to come back again !! also very inclusive gluten free options :) read more

Kinda surprised because this restaurant is so beautiful and well-attended, but the pizza is... way better down the street at Battle Hill Tavern - a tavern of all places. As the other Yelp photos suggest, the pizza here is kinda dry and bland for Neapolitan pizza. That said, the burrata appetizer will blow your mind. So get that instead of pizza, it's roughly the size of one. It's essentially a very GOOD pizza with... different topography. read more

My fiancée and I came here for outdoor dining. They had a few tables on the sidewalk and an expanded seating area on the street. It well spaced and most of the tables have canopies covering them. We shared the burrata for appetizer. It was served with peaches, arugula, nuts, and balsamic vinaigrette. It was an interesting dish. Very reminiscent of a cheese tapas tasting board. For our main course, we shared the mixed mushroom pizza. It had a good crust. A little crust and a little dough. Not many air pockets or bubbles. Not too much of a char. I liked the variety of mushrooms. read more

Had high hopes for this place and felt a tad disappointed. To start, we loved the atmosphere of the restaurant. It's very European-inspired and had a lot of character in the space. We took a spot in the back and it was still bright with sunlight. Cocktail was bright and fresh - there was a small miscommunication w/ the waiter and I got the wrong drink but it was still delish (grapefruit mimosa, wanted the arugula Bellini) so I didn't say anything. I saw a similar issue from another table as well. But, overall service was good especially given it was one person working the whole dining room. Coffee was also yummy. Food is where things took a turn for the worse. We got an Italian breakfast (play on full English breakfast) and the short rib & eggs along with a cup of fruit. Fruit was star of the show to be honest, inexpensive but full and unique (figs!). Besides this, everything tasted under seasoned and they don't have salt on the table. Even the hash browns had a pervasive taste of oil. Other than that, beans were ok, same w sausage, salad was good as was tomato confit (but a given), king oyster mushroom was rubbery and soggy. Bread and eggs were perfect. Unfortunately, the short rib was bone dry. Being somebody who cooks short ribs a lot, it did seem like it was a leftover from the service the night prior. Eggs, tho we asked for over medium on this particular dish, were fried brown and basically inedible. Pickled onion was dry and not vinegary. All in all, we did have big regrets about not ordering pizza. I might come back for dinner but brunch was very obviously a swing and a miss. Maybe there are better items we should have went for. The bill for two people including all of the above items was $80 including 20% tip. A great price point for the experience if the food was up to par. read more

Came here for a lunch with my 2 month old. My baby was crying and needed to be changed so I asked the waiter and a few other workers if there's a changing table. They rudely looked me up and down and said no. Legally, there is a requirement for restaurants to have changing tables so I was shocked to hear the word no but even more shocked at how rude they were! Would not come back because of how rude the staff is and how uncomfortable they made me feel that I needed to change my baby's diaper. read more

Have been to this restaurant a bunch of times in the last four months. Tonight the service and food were terrible. All of the other times the service and food were very good. Tonight they were understaffed and the food was not what we had come to expect from them. We will give it one more time(because it is so close to our place) but if it is as bad as it was tonight we will take it off our go to places here in South Slope. read more

What a beautiful restaurant- one of the nicest in Park Slope area- kinda Parisian vibe. My husband and I went without a reservation and were seated at the window right away. Ordered a salad and pizza to split between us and worked out to be perfect amount of food. Wait staff were supper nice and helpful. Also, they have a happy hour if u sit at the bar, which is huge and beautiful, from 5-7 Monday thru Thursday. Highly recommend for date night or night out with friends. read more

I've run by this restaurant at least a dozen times and didn't bother to look in. Today I stopped, looked, and decided to return with my gf. We scored a sidewalk table on a fabulous evening . I like artisanal pizza, but my gf is not as a huge fan. Well I can say that I am very impressed, and the skeptical gf is a fan as well. We ordered two Pizza's, the Salsiccia and the Funghi. Both were delicious, and I can say that Ottava has gained two new fans. read more

Very expensive for what you get...the fritto misto was primarily small, very over-fried calamari. The meatballs had a decent flavor but were very hard and in a sauce that reminded me of spaghettios. They came with burnt plain pizza, torn to pieces for dipping in the sweet, sweet, orange tomato sauce. The arancini were somehow kind of sweet in the middle? And gluey? There was no indication of any grains of rice, it was like a ricey pudding inside. Just a very weird, disappointing order...maybe the quality is better dine-in. read more

This restaurant is on my block in park slope and I couldn't be happier! It has great food and drinks as well. It's very fast service and courteous staff. To live so close to such a great place can be spoiling at times! If you haven't been here yet I suggest you come try it out sometime soon! read more

*Juicy Belch* A cold, slimy, saltine-like cauliflower crust pizza, with 'plops' of ricotta and ketchup sauce, and eggplant(?)... smelled like prison salad. $35! A pizza from a Wawa in Central Pennsylvania would be better than this slop. Dusgusto! read more

Very cute neighborhoody Italian spot. No frills. Tasty food. Dined outdoors after attending an event at Green-Wood Cemetery and was not disappointed. This is one of the few restaurants where the food tastes actually homemade. The bolognese reminded me of how a Nonna would make it and the octopus was a generous porition. We sat outside and the server came at the perfect times to take our orders, replace chilled water bottles, bring our drinks & food, and got us our bill after a nice relaxing night of delicious pizzas and cocktails over great conversations by candlelight. Not the best I've had in NY, it's definitely a better than average place especially if you just want a nice meet up venue with a few friends. read more

I'd like to start by saying that I'm having a hard time assessing stars for Ottava. I ate here once right after they opened (and the day before the Covid shut-down) and then got takeout a week or so ago. Both times, I thought the pizza was really good, but had service issues both times. The first time, I chalked it up to new business issues, but when I got the takeout, it wasn't that busy (a few big groups outside and one table indoors) and there were plenty of servers, but I had to wait 20 minutes past when they told me to come for the food. I found that seriously annoying because I didn't really want to be inside for that long, and it was too chilly to stand around outside. read more

I was looking for the owner or manager but thanks to this kind couple, that wasn't needed. Their blunt comments maybe embarrassed the hostess because only then did the hostess look at me rather than past me, and ask "how many..." she was ready to tell us there was no availability when I answered that we were a party of four as she looked around the dining room and gestured as if to say 'no seats'. I added that we had a reservation for 10 minutes ago. She asked my name and checked her tablet, then said "ok" and sat us at the table by the door. Once we were seated and situated, my young daughter looked up from her menu and asked me why was everybody else helped before us? She honestly didn't know. For those not familiar with having these types of conversations, let's just say that they can make even the best tasting pasta and pizza unsavory if you dwell on it. It's bad when a 7 year old notices they were "othered". Your mileage may vary, I'm sure there is more than one hostess working. I don't think I would recommend Barbalu to everybody unless you're getting take out, or you don't mind a "fight" to get service, assuming you insisted on eating here.

You have to pass through this dark curtain and go to the middle of the bar where the host will greet you and bring you to your seats. We were seated promptly with no wait. The restaurant is VERY small. So much so that at our table, all I had to do was reach my hand out and I would have been touching the kitchen counter. It does get a little crammed/crowded, but not in an annoying or unbearable kind of way. The vibe is actually really cozy and rustic. Very dim lighting so either whip out the flashlight on your phone or hold up one of the real candles they have on the table to read the menu. The food menu is straightforward and simple. They have an extensive wine list. I love how on the food menu, next to each dish, they tell you the region of Italy that dish gets its roots from. They have lovely dinnerware here. They brought out a foccacia bread for the table with a tomato dipping sauce. Absolutely delicious foccacia. The sauce was a tad too salty for me. I started off with the mocktail Luisa. It was passion fruit, lemon, agave, ginger beer, and mint. It was $10 and very fresh and mouthwatering! For my appetizer I had the Calamari alla griglia. Grilled calamari with guacamole and carasau bread. I've never had grilled calamari before. Only either marinara or fried. I also thought pairing it with guacamole was an interesting twist. I was so pleasantly surprised by this dish. The calamari were perfectly fork tender grilled. The guacamole went well with it. The carasau bread was more like a tortilla chip. They give you a decent amount for $24.95. That app slid down my throat effortlessly! For my entree I had the Maccheroncini alla Norma. Maccheroni with eggplant in tomato sauce with ricotta cheese. The pasta was so fresh and perfectly cooked. The sauce reminded me so much of my Calabrian grandmother's. The ricotta made it rich and creamy. Filling as well. So much so that, even though it wasn't a huge portion, I had to take home half of it because I was verging on being stuffed! My mother had the Cotoletta alla milanese. Keep in mind that if you get this chicken cutlet dish that it serves about four people, even though its for 1! HUGE portion. About 4 enormous cutlets that gave my mom 3 days of leftovers! All of the desserts were $12.95. A nice selection to choose from, but I had the classic Tiramisu. They make it here tableside. He made it with such care. Loved watching him put it all together. Let me tell you, that was the BEST Tiramisu that I've EVER had! Wow, just amazing. Very balanced, quality ingredients. The marscapone was so decadent, creamy and fresh. I could have easily taken down 2 of them! I tried some of my mother's chocolate cake. Delicious and decadent. Service throughout our dinner was above and beyond.
