Today was my first visit to Caffe Centro, even though I've been in the neighborhood for more than two years. I ordered the "Counter Panini" with NY white cheddar and salami. Thinnest amount of cheese and salami ever, but somehow it worked. At only just over four bucks, with its toasted crustiness, it was well worth it. Knowing that there wasn't enough meat, cheese and bread collectively to satisfy me today, I opted to ask about the soups. Corn chowder or red potato leek. I love potato leek soup! I get it back to the office, open the lid and think, it's awfully light-looking. Already, I'm nervous. I dip my spoon in...and...BLEH!!! It's the most watered down, flavorless soup I've ever tasted. Okay, I take that back. Bad miso soup comes damn close. I went to a colleague's desk, grabbed his Tapatio, and started shaking in the name of the Lord for improvement. What did it give me? Tapatio-flavored red potato leek water. Place is cute, it was like Cheers where the dude behind the counter knew everyone's name, and the vibe was young, hip, and broke. If you're coming to Centro then you probably have no other choice. You work in SOMA and probably on some technology that most Americans will never use or even hear about. So get used to going to Centro, getting a coffee and sitting in the park to talk to your coworkers about the next big thing. The coffee is good. The people are nice for a coffee place. It's across from a great park. The food here is a little overpriced for what you get. It's a deli not a bistro. The little sandwiches go on sale at 3pm so if you can wait until then, it might be worth it. read more

Great, simple, minimalist menu. I've order the Americano and them latte and both were no frills and made to order. The staff is friendly and serve you promptly. There is an outdoor area for seating and on a good day it can make the drinks taste even better. There's also wifi access if you ask for the login credentials. The location may be hard to find for some. It's tucked away behind market, off of 2nd, and across from federal. The location acts as a double edged sword, because although it is hard to find, the lack of motor and foot traffic does make the ambiance seem quiet and relaxing. read more

Caffe Centro has been my go-to cafe near home! It's a cute hole in a wall with awesome Spanish music playing. It really reminds me of my study abroad days :) Caffe Centro is super homey and offers yummy looking sandwiches and great coffee! My favorite splurge item is the acai bowl! It's flavorful and topped generously with fruit. The one suggestion I'd have with is if the consistency could be slightly more icy. It seems a little too runny/watery to eat with a spoon sometimes. I sometimes bring my laptop to get work done and they don't seem to mind that I sit here for a few hours. I definitely will be back! So I was here once and had the ham and cheese sandwich which was absolutely delicious. My next visit, this past week, I decided to have the nicoise. I have to say, it was rather disappointing. The food was fresh, but it was just BORING. Basically, it was a pile of mesculun, a bunch of flaked tuna, some boiled potatoes, all topped off with some balsamic vinaigrette. Just not that interesting! I would go back but definitely not get this salad next time! Friendly service and pleasant atmosphere. Try going in the later afternoon to avoid the hectic lunchtime rush! Great coffee, great service, great food. Prices are a little crazy even for San Francisco. I believe a salad was over 9 dollars with tax. Ambiance is also great. *Great Coffee, and the guys behind the counter are always sweet... Even when I try to order in their native language (and accidently butcher it, I ask them to correct me if I am saying it wrong, and they do with a smile). It's small, and nestled right in South Park, which, I love strolling through. I highly recommend the Egg Salad (It comes with some cute lil pickles). I really dig that they offer Half Sandwiches for 2 reasons. 1) Sandwiches at cafes are usually too big for me to eat the whole thing. 2) The knock a bit of $$$ off. I had a sandwich here once that was good, and a few coffees that were OUTSTANDING. Perhaps the best coffee in San Francisco. Not sure which roaster delivers their beans, but if you like espresso drinks, this is surely the place for you. Their menu is long and diverse. I tried a bite of their vegetarian sandwich, the centerpiece of which was eggplant. This one packed a ton of flavor and, I have to say, I like it better than the roast beef sandwich I had ordered. Cute spot in South Park in SOMA where you can get a free cookie with your purchase if you check in on Yelp. The chai (hot and iced) is weak here, and tastes more like water/milk so I would skip that. However, the coffee is pretty good and strong. They have a selection of baked goods along with lunch options - I've tried the roast beef sandwich here, which was hearty (I couldn't finish it in one meal!), but not amazing enough for me to crave it regularly. Salads, Sandwiches and Soups oh my! I really like the veggie sandwich, on foccacia spread with pesto. Try the caprese for another veggie option. All the other sandwiches are really good on their multi-grain bread. Also if you walk in and the line is too long try stepping outside and peek around the corner at the line at the lunch window, it may be shorter. Can wait til lunch? They also serve great coffee and chai. If you like bagels (get there early sometimes they run out by 10) have it toasted and lightly spread with cream cheese and topped with sliced tomatoes. good stuff read more

Today I ordered the vegetarian sandwich (I asked for it hot, on multigrain bread) and it was soooo good. It was made with grilled zucchini, eggplant, tomato, etc. and ricotta cheese, and it came with a side of orange slices, 3 kalamata olives and a tiny Mediterranean-style pickle. My total lunch cost was $8.27, including a bag of kettle chips (cheddar beer, mmmm). Some drawbacks: small tables cash only Make sure you and your dining buddy have each other's cell numbers if you plan on using the bathroom, because otherwise it may take you a lot longer to find someone to help you get the door open on your way out. read more

Ok, I'm upping this a star for three reasons: 1 - the soy lattes. sweet, yummy, hit the spot; 2 - the power outlet I can use (see my Quick Tip for The Creamery: not an outlet to be found which is a majorrrr bummer); and 3 - Perhaps best: the staff. SO SWEET! They always let me stay until past closing....and even use the restroom as they clean up. And today they let me go under the minimum amount required for a credit card: "for you, anything." The staff rocks. Wish they stayed open later but I feel loyal to hitting these guys up even though The Creamery down the street is lighter....no outlets there, and a little more attitude keep me going back to Centro these days. read more

Now I know why all the SF residents around here can fit into what Conan O'Brien calls jeggings. Its because the pastries suck at all the coffee shops here! I have tried so many different types at this cafe. They keep them in that little small glass container, like crabs piled on top of each other, hoping their owner will give them a more dignified showing. Can't we just line them up nicely single file? Or at least in some sort of order? Yeah yeah, the coffee is great, the place is charming, tables do not wobble. No one wears pleated pants. Its that sort of world here. But once in a while, we all need some unjustified calories. Ok, they do have cookies with caramel inside but they sort of look like a failed imitation of a Girl Scout cookie.Oh and the chocolate chip cookie--well I wouldn't mind some chocolate in, um, the chocolate chip cookie. read more

Ate here for years when I worked nearby. Good lunch and coffee spot and can eat in the park to enjoy the San Francisco air, nice in the winter. The Pasta Portofino salad was my favorite but they have yummy baguette sandwiches too that remind me of Paris. Early Saturday morning's in the financial district of San Francisco don't offer too many choices for food unless you want to pay through the nose for a buffet at the hotel. Down an unassuming side street there is Caffe Centro. Nothing fancy but a good local neighborhood place for breakfast or lunch. The decor is simple and the owners very nice. Prices are a bit high for what you get, but it is the city after all. I had the fried egg with avocado, and my son had the Bagel sandwich. The fried eggs were prepared just right with nicely done toast and avocado under the eggs. The portion was on the small side, but it was very good. The bagel sandwich, with a choice of bagel, was hearty and flavorful and generated smiles. It would be hard to give Caffe Cento a higher rating given its decor and food presentation, but if you take into account this is a local neighborhood spot, then you'll appreciate it for it local charm and good food. read more

Venue & vibe is perfect for an intimate sit down w/friends, as well as mingling with a diverse, always friendly mix of San Franciscans. You know what I love about this place is actually the service, the people and the dogs hanging out outside..! The coffee is good. I hear that the Cobb salad is amazing (I don't eat pork, so I guess I can't comment on that myself).. I tried the Tuna sandwich and the vegetarian sandwich and they were both pretty good! Great location near the park with outdoor seating and nice open windows. Very yummy pizza and they have beer and wine! Cure cafe with decent coffee, sandwiches and salads. The reason for two stars is that they gave me a salad missing one of the main ingredients listed (which I didn't realize until I got to work), and I asked for just olive oil and vinegar instead of dressing but they only had olive oil. I don't understand how it's possible there's no vinegar in the kitchen. Not great service in my opinion. read more

I was walking to work looking to get some blue bottle coffee near by. I had previously yelped "Blue Bottle" and found a place called Cento a few blocks from my office. I told my co-worker that we should go there, since he's never had blue bottle coffee before. We agreed and set off to find it on our way to work... without taking down the address. :( We didn't find Cento `cause we found Caffe Centro. Man, one letter off. I got a regular coffee which was a nice size for a $1.50 and my co-worker got an iced espresso. He liked his, but as I'm sipping on this horrid, watery coffee, I kinda wish that I'd found the right place. read more

A charming, cozy cafe/restaurant. I went here for dinner with a friend. We got a tasty black bean salad (although I thought it was overdressed it was still yummy) and the hummus avocado sandwich w tomato and sprouts. The man (owner?) who rang up our order was super friendly and kind. We ordered a slice of pie and he HOOKED it up with HELLLA whipped cream, it was so sweet (literally and figuratively). This is the closest cafe to my new place of employment, and it is a lovely little cafe with some outdoor seating right on South Park. After reading the yelp reviews I ventured in for a sandwitch a time or two and was very pleased with this as a lunch option. I like that you can order a half a 'witch for like $4, and it is usually not too busy when I take my lunch a little later in the afternoon, so not much of a wait. The service is great, folks are friendly and they will take a card if you spend at least $10. One caveat- the first time I went in for my morning coffee, I was appalled to discover the weak brown water passing for such in this establishment. :( A large cup from these folks left me yawning all day long. I also got a small mocha once during lunch as a little pick me up, and it didn't. To be fair, I require some serious rocket fuel to wake up in the morning, and have taken to carting a thermos of my local coffee with me to work in the morning. I also have to say I suspected something fishy when i saw a co-worker drinking a cup of centro coffee in the afternoon. The kind of coffee I like, you dont drink in the afternoon unless you have some serious late night plans :) The food is really good, however, reasonably priced and relatively healthy. That business with the foccacia and mozzarella, friggin' delish! I Also enjoyed the tuna with enough sprouts to make a salad with! I could eat here all day everyday If I had the money to do so. The sandwiches here are awesome, in particular I enjoy the roast beef. Egg salad is also one of my favorites, as long as i dont need to be around people. I really like the chai here too when compared to the one at small cafe, but small has better coffee than this cafe. Oh man. This place is amazing. I work down the street, so this place is my go to for lunch whenever I don't bring lunch to work. Cute little coffee shop that has salads and sandwiches. Their portions are big, which is great! Prices aren't horrible, and the staff is friendly! The only issue is the line sometimes jumbles up and can get confusing.. They have an amazing BLT and cobb salad. I have yet to grab a coffee here, but I've heard their coffees/lattes are amazing as well. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants a lunch on the lighter side. 5 stars! read more

If you want a healthy bite, this is your spot. The hummus avocado sandwich is very tasty and so good in fact that I almost never try anything else. The one time I did, I got the tuna sandwich and there was WAY too much tuna involved. Sos just a warning for people who like moderate/reasonable tuna on their tuna sandwiches. There is indoor and outdoor seating, so on a nice day, I always come here to catch my only chance to interface with the outside world and you should too.
