This is one of the cutest little cafes in Nob Hill. The menu offers a good amount of breakfast and lunch sandwiches, pastries, and of course beverages. I have never had a "traditional" french breakfast, so that's what I got. The sandwich was made to perfection! The bread had the right amount of softness and subtle sweetness, the egg was cooked well done (as I like it), the gruyere was melted to the best amount of gooeyness, and the pear and spinach added some needed texture, crunch and sweetness to top it all off. It was absolutely divine! I wanted to try a pastry as well, but I was trying to be good. They all looked delicious and mouth watering (I'll save those for my next visit there). The service was awesome - friendly, inviting, and honest. I had a lot of questions and the staff was able to answer them and give their recommendations as well. I truly appreciated the air of kindness throughout the staff. It really makes a difference with your experience, and they nail it here. Such a cute little hole in the wall cafe! The outdoor seating seriously reminds me of New York, and there's also a few seats inside if you want to sit in. The coffee is AMAZING. I got both a vanilla latte and a regular latte and they were super creamy, delicious, and a really good size. Coffee came out fast too, which I always appreciate. The sandwiches were easily some of the best I've ever had, and it was the perfect breakfast that kept me fueled the entire day. I ordered the fresh mozzarella and avocado sandwich with basil pesto, tomatoes, arugula, and balsamic on ciabatta. I added eggs for extra protein ($2.50 more) and WOW, so worth it. They absolutely load it up!! We did wait a little bit for the sandwiches, but everything was super fresh and made with care. I had the salmon cream cheese croissant with an iced peanut butter latte and Lane ordered the california crunch with salmon and a hot mocha. I loved the flavor of the peanut butter latte, but there were many sips where I had straight peanut butter. Wasn't a problem, but definitely a bit too much sometimes haha. Lane and I decided to split half half on his sandwiches. Both were humongeous I only ended up eating half of the one I ordered. Delicious and satisfied. Lane mentioned how good his sandwich was and was adding sriracha mayo to it. I had fomo just watching him eat it cause it looked so good. We had to circle the block before I decided to get out And order while he looked for parking. It's a small location. There's were people waiting outside while they waited for their orders. They have 2 tables with seating outside that were taken at the time and a bar sitting inside near an open window. I placed an order for a large caramel macchiato and a smoked salmon and cream cheese on an everything bagel. The coffee came out with in 5 minutes but the sandwich took about 10 minutes. I usually substitute the meat for chicken and swap the maple sauce for rosemary aioli, and it's perfect every single time. The staff is always so kind and welcoming, and the service is quick and efficient, which is perfect when I'm on a break. I am so glad we stopped in today this was probably so far the best sandwich I've had in SF. The aeoli is so good and everything is home made and fresh. The lavender latte was amazing and flavorful and the owner greeted us and you could tell the passion he had for his business and the food. I asked for extra sauce and I'm glad I did because it was absolutely delicious. The lemon almond scone was also fantastic. If I lived or worked nearby I can guarantee I'd be a regular! Wow! Talk about a pretty solid sandwich AND coffee. Usually places only execute 1 out of the 2 but this place handled both very well. When there's a line out the door it's most likely for good reason. If you're in a hurry, I probably wouldn't stop here considering it did take some time but it's SO worth it. We got the ultimate breakfast sandwiches. Sandwiches held up well and you are able to customize meat selections and take out/add what you want. The sauce they use is very good and adds extra depth to the sandwich and knocks it out of the park. As for the coffee, we tried the iced americano and French lavender latte. Americano had a bold flavor and not sour like some can be. Lavender latte was very good and not too overwhelming. It had a good balance of lavender. The place is small inside but very clean. Service was good considering it was packed. I know some places can get overwhelming but they do a great job! Friday, 8:45am This place is hopping. Seems to be a steady mix of locals with tiny dogs & workers from the surrounding medical buildings. I ordered the Avocado Toast, which includes an egg, & added bacon. Be still my heart, the toast was actually toasted! Definitely can eat all their goods by hand as everything packed to go. Anyway, a great breakfast. If I'm going to be picky, the avocado was a day short of ripe, but creamy enough to spread. This is purely subjective, but I'm not a fan of whole wheat bread, the flavor fights the mild avocado taste. I'd prefer a neutral sourdough, but again, no points off there. Bacon was perfectly prepared, well cooked but still chewy. The staff were super friendly, noticed a lot of regulars, some chatting in Spanish with the cashier. Extra points there. I noticed one regular ordering coffee with a frequent customer punch card. If you're walking, know the hills are rather steep. I showed up at 8:45 & noticed 1 or 2 spots routinely opened up on Hyde. Metering starts at 9am. If you arrive via Bush the entire north side is no parking until 9am, so plan on 8:55am arrival & the street is yours. Parked & hungry I was a bit worried, it's a tiny, cute place with a small line. I didn't see any open spaces so I ordered to go. Turns out that wasn't necessary. Absolutely no laptop campers, Everyone ate their food & left. A table opened up before my meal arrived. Didn't take long for my order either. Definitely a pleasant experience all around. I'm torn about what to say for this place, because the service was pretty rude but the sandwich I had there was bommmmb. It's a really small place, and it was super duper busy while I was there, so I can see why the staff was maybe a little on edge and low on patience, but that's still not an excuse to be condescending to your customers. One of the guys there -- presumably the manager or owner? -- seemed kind of annoyed at everyone the whole time, and was especially rude to one of my friends. Didn't love that. That being said, I ordered a peanut butter latte and an egg and cheese sandwich, and the sandwich was amazing (especially whatever aioli they used). I'd 100% get it again. The latte was pretty disappointing though and barely tasted like peanut butter; I think it's because all the peanut butter was just gathered at the bottom of the cup. Such a good cafe in Lower Nob, how have I not been back a second time?? There was a line when I got here on a late Saturday morning to meet up with a friend (~10-15 min) but it was worth it when I received my Salmon Cream cheese bagel on wheat and wowza it was tasty - really thick heaping of smoked salmon, cream cheese, greens, tomato, and added in avocado. I gobbled everything up quickly while chatting with my friend in the cozy indoor seating (there's barely any tables but we snagged one in the corner). There's also some small outdoor seating, though generally this place would be pretty cramped if you're here with more than one person. The servers are so friendly and I have to come back to try their lattes and other bagel flavors soon. I don't usually have many effusive reviews for bagel shops since I'm a picky Jersey girl who's been spoiled with bagels since childhood. Crostini and Java has some delicious pastries but quite awful matcha. When I came I decided to get a slice of the chocolate chip banana bread loaf as well as an oat milk iced matcha latte. The choco chip banana bread slice was moist, buttery and delicious and the chocolate was just the right amount of melted. That being said, the matcha latte on the other hand was watery and flavorless - tasting like a cup of cold oat milk with a piece of grass wafted over it. It also had a bitter aftertaste. The only thing that is missing is there is no public wifi here so I guess this shop is not a place where you can bring your laptop and work here. Got something from another spot in the Civic Center area for breakfast. It may be a small place but it's big on taste. Crostini & Java is a cozy little cafe. Has a counter with a few chairs and there's not much else of a dining area inside. The prices are pretty okay for around this area it seems. At breakfast it gets the busiest of course. It's one of the most convenient places to go to around here. This opens up pretty early compared to the stuff around it. Coffee is the main beverage. It's about $3 for a cup. Basic stuff but for the area it's pretty affordable. Food is typical breakfast stuff. There's a few that are better though. It's $5 to get the Bagel With Avocado. This was choice of bagel with slices of avocados and tomatoes. Basic but that doesn't mean it was bad. This tasted like it was all fresh. Has typical stuff to get at breakfast.
