I'm confused about why the reviews are bad...both my hubby and I had a wonderful experience and the pasta was delicious! I ordered the linguini and lobster and asked if I could substitute the tomato sauce for cream sauce. Flavor was superb! My hubby had fettuccini Alfredo with chicken and also loved his meal. In fact he noted that he didn't have to add salt or pepper...the meal was perfect! Not only was the food delicious, but every single employee we encountered was so attentive and helpful. We will return! A day later and we found ourselves back at Caffe Positano for dinner. We both ordered the same entrees and we enjoyed them just the same. I'm upgrading from 4 stars to 5 for consistency, excellent service and our new fav restaurant in Positano.
On the plus side, Eduardo was so charming and sweet, which was really appreciated after a long, hard travel day. He brought us a glass of Prosecco while we were waiting, got us a beautiful ocean side table, and called our daughter, Princess. Other plus: beautiful ocean view. Unfortunately, the food just wasn't very good. I got the seafood pasta, and while it had a generous amount of seafood, the seafood was fairly flavorless, the pasta was gummy, and sauce wasn't great, my husband ordered the sea bass, and it was really dry. It was supposed to come in a white wine sauce, and did not, so he requested it. When it eventually arrived, it was an improvement, but still not great, my daughter was happy with her ravioli, but she's pretty easy to please. Hopefully, they can step up the food quality, because service and location are great!
View from Caffe Positano; they deserve 6 stars! While waiting for a table, they gave us champagne and sat us on their terrace overlooking the city within 10 minutes. The food was the best we had in Positano, the service was incredible and the wine was perfect. We stayed from sunset until close and didn't feel rushed one bit. You rocked it queens .
This restaurant was right outside of our hotel and we decided to try it as it was late at night. My friend got the seafood risotto and I got a mushroom risotto. The risotto was slightly undercooked for both of us but it still was well seasoned. Service: The service was excellent. Everyone was very attentive and even though we were there around closing time we never felt rushed. Price: in general, the prices based on the portion size was very reasonable.
Great location and quick service! Ordered the medley sea food grill that included, prawns, scallop, squid and local fish! We went during peak lunch time and hoped to be seated next to sea view...but was long wait and opposite street side was equally great! Cool vibes with warm sunny summer! Family had Alfredo pasta (no meat) was delicious and creamy!
Don't be Cat-fished. Literally the only people that come here, come for the view. The food is average, but the service is where you'll instantly regret your decision to dine here. Like others have mentioned, the service is laughably bad. The waiters range from not friendly, all the way to extremely rude. I've been fortunate enough to experience many five star hotels, Michelin restaurants, etc. and other places where you would imagine it to be potentially very snobby (either clientele or hosts). However, these guys take the cake for most snobby. And this is coming from someone who lives in LA. 1. They'll forget your order. And we went at like 7pm BEFORE the dinner rush. They'll also forget to take your order. We needed another second so the guy left and never came back. It took one of the chefs, who was on break eating inside near us, to tell the waiter that we've been ready... with our menus politely closed for about 15 min. 2. Have you ever had a waiter almost throw your food down in front of you? How about doing that while he's staring off in the distance elsewhere - making it seem like you're inconveniencing him? Well they do that here. With attitude. Even when you try to be extremely respectful and nice. 3. Since it was literally us and one other couple dining (not a busy time), I decided to ask what was more popular between 2 pasta dishes. It wasn't busy, and I specifically made sure to ask about 2 dishes to avoid the infamous and vague "what's good here?". The waiter literally looked away and said "everything's good here." He's that guy. 4. Place is ridiculously overpriced. We ate at places like Ristorante Mirage and De Vincenzo for dinner which were MILES better when comparing service, food and price. There's a reason why you need reservations there and not Caffe Positano. 5. The service was so trash that I didn't even feel comfortable presenting my "nut" allergy card to them. I feel like they wouldn't have even taken our order at that point or would have made us wait even longer for our food. 6. We tip VERY well and did so at almost every restaurant during our 2 week trip at Italy. Needless to say, we left nothing here because their service was one of the WORST we've ever experienced anywhere (Italy, US, Japan, Thailand, Mexico, Bahamas). Yes, it was literally that bad. I highly recommend you avoid this place like the plague. I'm doing you a favor, don't be cat-fished by the view. You traveled all the way to Positano. You deserve better.
Great place for any meal, the service was great, food was amazing and the drinks were cold, the views while sitting outside were just breath taking, this place sits atop a mountain overlooking the ocean it's split by a very narrow street, so you can sit in the restaurant or outside looking at the ocean and enjoying a great breeze, definitely recommend this great restaurant
Slow initial service and sitting on the street is a little busy with cars but once they got everything rolling, it was delightful. Maybe.... Suggest indoor seating. After watching the operation, I think they may have been one or two understaffed. Thames all worked very well together as a team. Zuppa Pesci was fantastic. Alfredo, steaks, and sea bass were all quite good as well. Nothing put it over the top, but certainly worth returning.
Picked this place because we were a little homesick and craving an American Breakfast. This place did not disappoint for what we were wanting. The American breakfast came with sausage, bacon, 2 eggs of your choice, toast, pancakes, and a little salad. I also ordered an iced latte and a glass of Prosecco. Also had a lovely view! The only reason I knocked stars off was because this is the only place in all of Italy where we've been rushed out, well more like kicked out, but it seemed to be because a party of 6 walked up and they needed our table. We definitely could've been accommodated for the Prosecco and beer we ordered to extend our visit at another table, but they came up with some BS excuse that only food service could be provided at the tables with the sea-view, so we left.
Very nice cafe with plenty of seating inside, outside and pretty much across the street with an amazing view. We came here for breakfast only and were not disappointed. The prices here were not that bad especially being in Positano. I got a mushroom and spinach omelette which wasn't bad just very cooked making it a bit dry but good overall. I wanted just egg whites but not sure if that was even an option. For desert we got a tiramisu which was good and a lemon sorbet inside an actual lemon which was delicious and very appetizing. We sat right outside with cars and people constantly driving and walking by but it wasn't a problem and it was a nice experience, something new and pretty much safe. If I ever come back to Positano I would come back here again. The staff here was also very helpful and nice. read more

We had a lovely dinner at Caffe Positano in July 2024. The views, food, drinks and service were all great. We look forward to dining there again this summer. They have a great selection of cocktails, I had a Mojito and my husband had the Pina Colada. We sat inside by the big window, which was nice. The food was all tasty too. read more

Very popular for a great reason. Food was delicious, wine paired great, and loved the service. If you're by the beach it's a bit of an upstairs hike but totally worth it. We ordered the mozzarella and octopus, and I was so excited to dig into the steak with pepper sauce. Really looking forward to dining here again soon! read more
We found this place just by walking on the Main Street in Positano. After waiting 25 minutes we were seated right on the edge of the street and had the most beautiful view. The food was delicious and the service was perfect. read more

Not our best meal in Italy, the food is fair, but what it lacks for in fabulous food, it makes up for in the view. You go here for a beautiful view of Positano and the sea. Tip for you, the restaurant is way larger than the 10 tables street side, head done the steps and the downstairs part is quite large with lots of seats with a view. We had the lasagna and mushroom fettuccine- both were good (again, not the best pasta on my Italian trip, but I left satisfied). I was not a fan of their Caesar salad- too much dressing (and I really didn't like the dressing flavor). read more
Arrived for dinner around 9PM and wasn't a problem to get a table. For a starter we had the Misto Mare which was basically a dish with various seafood (prawns, anchovies, swordfish, clams and mussels). Overall, this dish wasn't great in my opinion. Some was good, so wasn't and it was just tasting way too fishy. Just not my style. For my entree, I ordered the lasagna. When the food came, they brought me stuffed shells. I don't eat ricotta cheese so I literally had to say something. When the lasagna came, It was really good. For dessert we shared an affogato which is basically a scoop of gelato in an espresso. Can't go wrong. However, due to the food and service, I wouldn't be back here. There are way better places in Positano to dine at. read more

Really great for a semi casual dinner with a view of the Amalfi coast. Really really nice pasta with seafood here for a reasonable price. You are not required to have a reservation as there are so many other restaurants nearby. I had a great experience here while traveling through Italy with my mom at the end of the summer. I had the lobster linguine and I kid you not it was the best seafood pasta I have ever had in my entire life. I will remember is forever. My mom had a fresh handmade pasta with crab which was not as good as the lobster linguine in addition you had to crack all the crab meat out yourself which was too hard. Absolutely loved this place though and the view is gorgeous at night to see all the lights of the coast. read more
After arriving from Rome I was very pleasantly surprised that prices here and most others are more reasonable. Great view as with most. But this view is higher than most others and a life saver if your staying near the top. Only negative is really more related to the streets. Gets real noisy during commute times, ambulance drives by, etc. But a great place to lay back and enjoy the view and people. read more

Caffe Positano is located on a narrow road with an amazing view. The drinks and bruschetta were very good. Pricey, but clearly a tourist spot, therefore expected. Got a table on the street side....interesting view of tourists walking by. The server was very nice. Plenty of wonderful restaurants around, but if you want a picture in a restaurant with an amazing view PCaffe Positano is it. read more

Get a table on the street level outside. Great for people watching on one side and a breathtaking view on the other side. The food is phenomenal. My wife had an idea of what she wanted to eat (off-menu) and the server was able to provide exactly what she wanted. He also made thoughtful suggestions to vary what was on the menu for my daughter and I. Our hotel was quite a few stairs up the mountain, and the hotel provided free transportation back after our meal. All in all, very attentive staff and great tasting food. read more
This place is a tourist trap and its food is hot garbage. Yes, it's conveniently situated and a great view can be had from its seats, but that's literally where the pros end. The service is inhospitable, the servers looked unhappy, they spoke with unfriendly tones, and the food is very, very subpar (and I have a very low threshold for tasty food). I ordered a chicken cutlet sandwich to go for €4. It's advertised as €6 but if you get it to go instead of eating at the restaurant, it's €2 cheaper. I recommend getting it to go and sitting on a public bench or something. Actually, don't even come here. The sandwich was terrible. Instead of getting a chicken breast covered in breeding, it was just a rubbery chicken breast. The worst part? THERE WAS RED AND PINK IN THE CHICKEN STILL! Come on, man. Listen to this review (as well as the other reviews). The food is bad, the service is bad, and they should feel bad. read more
Spectacular vistas while dining al freco. Superb line up. The baked fish was yummy and so was the baked eggplant lasagna. Service was attentive but not pushy. They also have Indoor dining if you prefer to stay out of the sun. Make sure to make room for their desserts. We didn't so it was our loss. Overall we had a great experience. read more
Two stars for the amazing view and lovely patio. The food is average but caters more to tourists that want an American or English meal than Mediterranean or Italian food. Service was flirtatious and prompt in the evening, slow and gruff in the morning. The four top table next to us sat down ten minutes after us and finished eating before our party of two even received our food (and we ordered simple sandwiches). When the waiter realized he'd completely forgotten us, he became a bit friendlier and said sorry as he delivered the meal. All could have been forgiven if the food left a more lasting impression, but that only brought it from two to three stars. read more

This is the place to go more so for the beautiful view and not the food. You can see the famous layout of the house on cliffs and the sea in the distance. The octopus I shared as an appetizer was pretty tender. I had the grilled calamari as the main meal which was chewy and slightly cold but still decent. Service was fairly slow and not quite hospitable but that's due to the culture of service in Italy since tips are not expected. The limoncello spritz and lemon sorbet were the redeeming parts of the meal. If you're a tourist searching for good pics, this is your go to. read more
The food gets a 1-2 star, sadly; the view gets a 4-5 star. Average star for it all = 2-3. The service was fine for Italy. We sat right by the edge and had amazing views. You go here for the view, NOT the food...said everyone who ever went there. It's pricey. read more
