Subjective: Went for lunch. Crowded, but able to get a outdoor table facing the sea without a wait. Dishes: spaghetti with tuna and capers, spaghetti with meatballs and sausage. Objective: Located on the main road above our hotel (Albergo Miramare). Indoor and outdoor seating. Pasta dishes were around 15 euros each. English-friendly. Assessment: classic Positano outdoor dining experience - pedestrians and cars whizzing inches from the outdoor tables, which may not be to everyone's liking. The food and service were solid. Great views overlooking Positano beach. We had to wait for dinner because all the tables were full so they offered complimentary champagne while we waited. Once we were seated the service was decent. Their cured meats were excellent. We also Got their Amalfi Coast white wine. Although I think they forgot to bring it to us since it took a long time for them to bring it to us. The American breakfast was good, satisfied the craving. Had a juice that was good as well, however this is the only place in all of Italy that kicked us out to give our table to someone else. For some reasons I had high expectations to eat at this restaurant and it was just probably for its name and the fact that you are able to enjoy a nice view at night. The place outside is very cozy and romantic (if you are going for that kind of mood). The water is not as expensive like other places - Like 3 dollars and drinks are good as well. Service was not great. You asked for the menu before seating down and they don't even look at you. But you know; at the end of the day you just want to eat and had a good time with friends or family. The food was in our table really fast but just because it was fast does not mean it's good. And sadly in my case it was like that. The food was not good. If you're Asian and want to dine here, be prepared to be made fun of. One star because our first dining experience was actually good, the price is reasonable compared to other restaurants in the area and I actually liked my dish. The second time around the staff were super friendly in the beginning. We had the same waiter and it was all fine until in the middle of talking he used his fingers to slant his eyes and then pointed at my eyes saying "your eyes" and then proceeded to slant his eyes with his fingers again. I said "Please don't ever do that again" and the whole mood changed from there. Bread was nice and stale. Waiter was pushy with us ordering and we ended up getting suckered into the appetizer which consisted of frozen mini mussels, shrimp and clams - it was fresh from the Canadian waters afar many years ago before it was thawed for our 16 euro appetizer. The dinner...grab your popcorn folks. The spaghetti and seafood mixture had zero flavor. I actually had more seafood flavor the day prior when I accidentally ingested some sea water. The pizza - wow. Amazing. A gem of a restaurant. The dough was so floury and had as much flavor as cardboard. The tomatoes were as fresh as canned tomatoes from WWII and the cheese was frozen. Well done folks. Service was quite slow and unfortunately rude. We witnessed them seat 2 separate couples at a balcony edge table for 4 and then insist that they had to move because they were only 2 people. The pasta was good. The fettuccini with mushroom sauce was tasty. But the meat dishes left a lot to be desired despite their high prices. Sea bass for 23 Euros was so fishy tasting that we could not eat it. When I let the waiter know, he claimed that we ate it so it couldn't have been too fishy. We also had a steak dish that had a strong wine flavor - the wine had not cooked off. They also served bottled water in a flask so while it may be bottled water, this is the only place that served it this way in Italy so for all we know, it was tap water. In summary, come for the pasta and the view. Order water with gas to make sure it is truly bottled. If you don't tolerate rude service, don't come. read more

I NEVER cry racism but the interactions with me certainly do. Out of our entire 3 week tour of Italy, this was the absolute worst meal me and my wife had. Great views, but service is bad. Not very friendly staff. We had the lower terrace seating, which I think is better since you don't get the exhaust of the traffic whizzing by. I was sick of pasta and decided just to get the mushroom omelet. The mushrooms were not even sautéed. My befriend ordered the calamari. Though it was tender, the breading could have been crispier. The lower terrace has opening dining and and area that is closed in. Would be difficult for tables 4 or more as it seems most tables are for 2. Don't get sucked into the tourist traps like Buca de Bacca down on the beach (garbage) walk up the hill for better food. CP gave us an unforgettable evening. I made b-day reservations for my wife one day in advance with the very nice and funny hostess. They put together an amazing evening. We had a beautiful private table overlooking Positano with fresh cut flowers on the table. The proscuitto and mozzarella was the best we had on our entire trip. The main courses were very good. I would say 8.5 to 9 out of 10 (but I'm very particular). They finished off with a great birthday song along with a sparkler in the dessert. Amazing evening! If you go to Positano the is a must stop at very reasonable price. I am surprised by the other reviews. My husband and I came here after spending 4 nights in Rome and eating at amazing local restaurants. We arrived very late in Positano and very hungry. The waiter did rush us a bit upon ordering I thought bc it was so late. However we both thought the food was excellent. We came here our first night in Positano because of the amazing views and food recommendations. We made a reservation a couple weeks earlier but after reading all the poor service reviews, I was a little worried. Let me tell you, the service was great. It was slower but that's just the culture and atmosphere! Who wants to be rushed while watching the sunset views? The food was great, the service was friendly and efficient and the views/atmosphere was perfect. After having our table (with the best view) for 2 1/2 hours they kindly asked us if we would mind moving across the street so they could seat the next guests while we finished our drinks. We were more than done eating and didn't mind the move at all. For the inconvenience they gave us delicious homemade lemonchello shots, on the house! Great view - but is there any building in Positano that has a bad view? ;). You can choose to sit right off the main street or on the patio. Both offer a very romantic setting at sunset - perfect for couples. Food was good, prices were ok. A little higher than what we had experienced other places, but not ridiculous.
