Il Capitano has a really nice vibe -- we sat outside on the terrace, which was lovely but pretty cold in November with no heaters or blankets. The highlight was definitely the local red snapper baked in the oven. Super fresh, perfectly seasoned, and they filet it right in front of you. Staff was attentive and friendly too. I ordered the fusillani cacio e pepe without the tuna tartar, but it came out covered in raw tuna. The waitress was hesitant to fix it at first, though she eventually did. The pasta itself was fine -- cheesy and tasty enough. Menu's a bit limited, but overall it was a decent experience. Good fish, nice staff, but a few hiccups. read more

The best meal of our Italian honeymoon yet. Josana and her staff made us feel so welcome. We sat in the most romantic corner perch on the outdoor terrace right before a gorgeous sunset on the Amalfi coast. The views are absolutely unparalleled. The food was divine. We started with complimentary amuse-bouche which as beautiful as it was delicious. We also had exquisitely tender sea bass, perfectly cooked linguini vongole, and the most delectable caprese salad we've ever had (this should be a simple dish, but we've had a few terrible versions in Italy already). We heard so many positive things about this restaurant but our experience was terrible. We were seated and after about 10 minutes and no one came to our table I flagged down a waiter and asked for some water. It came then no one came to take our drink order. Finally we ordered an expensive bottle of wine and they did bring out the nice wine glasses (+). We split a gnocchi dish which was excellent. My wife ordered stuffed sea bass, again excellent. I ordered the calamari I might as well have been served rubber bands. I frequently order calamari and this was the worst I have ever had. When the waiter came and saw that I had not eaten hardly any I offered for her to eat one. She refused. I told her my thoughts. She did apologize and brought us 2 dishes of ice cream complimentary. We left. This is the end of the season in Positano and I think the staff and chef are ready to close up. read more

The sunset views are probably the best which made for a seriously romantic atmosphere. My boyfriend and I stopped there for dolce, beer, and coffee which were very delicious. To start, this restaurant has one of the best views in Positano. Its perched high on a hill overlooking all of Positano. Dining there at night is nothing less than magical. Second, the staff makes you feel like you are family and all they want to do is please and feed you. And the food was 5 star - our meal started with a wonderful complementary appetizer that was amazing. We then ordered a stuffed zucchini flower appetizer that was so delicate and wonderful. Both appetizers were very well presented. Our main courses were delicious - my wife and I both ordered pasta dishes that were cooked perfectly. I loved the view of the water and the whole vibe of the restaurant, but you could clearly tell that their tailored the whole thing to American tourists. Great place for pictures. The pasta was cooked well and the sauces were pretty good, but i definitely had better on my trip to the Amalfi Coast. Probably one of the best seafood pasta I've ever had in my life. And I say this because I'm probably one of the pickiest eaters that you will ever find (I feel bad for whoever my next girlfriend is going to be haha)! We started off with a cheese platter. It was pretty standard combination of cheese. I do have to say that their jam was on point! The sweetness of the jam definitely complemented the saltiness of the cheese. It was definitely a good appetizer to start off with. I ordered the seafood spaghetti made with cuttlefish ink. At first I was really skeptical since I've never had black pasta before. But when I took the first bite, goddamn was I impressed. I felt like I was swimming in the Mediterranean Sea with the squid and fish. Okay maybe that's an exaggeration, but the flavor really came through and it paired very well with the local white wine that the waiter recommended for me. The restaurant also has a good scenary of the Amalfi coast, which made the food all the more enjoyable. The place is quite expensive and the portion size is small. However, you are in Italy! I ordered what the waitress recommended as her favorite dish on the menu which is the croaker fish 24 euro. It was awful. I forced it down. Then we started chatting with the table next to us also from the States and the wife also ordered the same croaker fish which is supposed to be the best fish on their menu and a local fish. She turned hers back to the kitchen and made them recook it. It was cold and fishy and just in general terrible. Tasted like my own bad attempts at cooking fish at home in the past. And Italy is suppose to have good food. But I'm giving this place 3 stars because the view is spectacular and the alcohol was pretty darn tasty. My friends and I tried the famous lemoncello for the first time here and it didn't disappoint. It was sweet yet strong. It was definitely the highlight of our trip down to Positano. But of course we also had a couple of their pizzas which were also good. You have to get seafood risotto (I will warn you that Italians cook their risotto in the seafood water aka the seafood is cooked in water then they use that broth to make the risotto) which can make it a little strong if you don't love seafood, and the ravioli with tomato and melazone stuffed with ricotta is to die for. read more

We came for pizza one evening. We made a reservation the night before, just in case. I don't know if this was necessary, bc when we got there it was not that busy. DO NOT GO here. From New York, I am typically used to curt, sometimes borderline rude service. But that's expected and totally worth it for the food - because you know it's going to be the BEST. This place was down right RUDE! They took one look at us (keeping in mind I did my hair all nice and we were both New York chic) told us, "sorry, no tables available" in broken English and gave us a hint to dine elsewhere (btw- there was an open 2 top we saw on our way out that was set up and ready to go!). This place has gorgeous views on the bay & the city. Their prices are very reasonable (3 course dinner with a bottle of wine for two totaled up to approx 100 euro), and cuperto (the city tax) was only 2 euro per person. The food is very good; for antipasti we had a yummy seafood mix (clams, mussels in tomato broth) & sea bass carpaccio - salty, melt in your mouth quality of fish. Then I had pumpkin gnocchi with clams and bacon - delicious, creamy, savory - I licked my plate clean ;), and A. had lamb shank, which he loved. For dessert we shared a dark chocolate ice cream truffle complimented by a sweet wine with a hint of cherry flavor. The whole experience was unforgettable & very romantic. read more
