Did a day trip out to Lafayette with some friends and shot down to Abbeville specifically for a Cajun Claws. I had tried it once before when I was in Abbeville on business and thoroughly ruined a white dress shirt. This time I was more appropriately attired. We got our spot on the "list" and heading over to Shucks for our 5pm slot. Although many on yelp have been critical of the system, it worked fine for us and we were seated promptly with the first wave of customers. Although the waiter simply asked 3 or 5 (pounds) one of my friends in a fit of pique requested and received a menu revealing options beyond crawfish. We were there for a single reason so everyone eventually ordered their respective portion but the table next to us got some fried stuff that looked tasty, I went with the five pounds extra hot and it was everything crawfish could be. Seriously this place has ruined crawfish for me - they are mini lobsters and cooked perfectly, don't think anyone else holds a candle. When I asked the person doing the seating about what was going on, I was told "that's not my problem if you weren't here at 3:00". When I showed her my name on the list, she didn't know what to say. By missing the "first round" at 5:00, it now became "maybe" 7:00 before my party OF THREE PEOPLE could be seated. The hostess was beyond disrespectful. A person walked over and very politely asked where his party was on the waiting list and when he asked the simple question of "about how much longer do you think", he was promptly told "you and your party can leave if you don't like it"!! Needles to say, even though this is some of the best crawfish I've eaten, this was my last time here!! There's no food worth this crap. NEVER, and I repeat, NEVER again will I come here. Easily one of the best if not the best restaurants to get boiled crawfish in Acadiana. The crawfish are hand selected and all are large. I've never been to another crawfish house that serves crawfish as large as Cajun Claws. Let me reiterate, ALL the crawfish served are large. In most places you get small to large in a batch and that proportion varies from serving to serving. They also serve them using one of four different heat levels of your selection, which is nice. They also use Tabasco pepper mash as one of the seasonings, which gives them a distinctive flavor. The restaurant is only open during crawfish season, which typically runs December through May. They also usually are open on Friday and Saturday starting out and then expand to more days as supply and demand direct. Make sure to call for availability and to see if they're open. They frequently run out of crawfish so get in line early. Additionally, they have non boiled crawfish food items that are great. Try their poboys or seafood platters. Also, for desert get the lemon ice cream pistolettes. read more

At any point in the season, their crawfish are bigger than anyone elses'. The flavor is incredible, the super hot is the best. Will never go to Cajun Claws again. Went in very early to get first seating. Counted 6 other couples/groups waiting. When signing in noticed quite a few more names on list. Seems that they allow school kids to stop in and sign list for their parents when they leave school. We did not make first seating but was second on the list now. My wife went up and looked at list. She commented that she will get seated second. Worker said not if someone who signed list ahead of us but was not in the waiting room now would come in before our name was called. Did not sit well with us. Then someone walked in for table. The worker asked why she wasn't on the list. She said, I forgot to come in early and sign in. Not sure where the negativity comes from in the other reviews as we were just passing through town and can't comment on the normal procedure. We saw the packed parking lot and as we love crawfish thought we would give it a try. Walked right in and were seated immediately. The cold Abita hit the spot after a long day of driving and the platter of crawfish came out in ten minutes.
