The seafood at this place, was cooked very very good. The quality of the seafood was a very clean tasting seafood. Even the shrimp had a nice clean flavor. And we're you looking for butter? Oh, they do (not) spare the sticks of butter at this place! The potato. Oh yes, I said "potato". I have never had a seafood bowl - have (just) a single potato. The potato tasted absolutely great. But 1 potato? That was a joke - especially after you see what these items cost! The garlic butter: There was plenty of butter. Tye flavoring of the butter, certainly was unique of sorts. Seemed to have (possibly) a chili powder base. And though I thought it was good...I also got tired of the taste, after a bit. The Big Downer at this place: Cost. You see my (2) platters. Add (3) cans of Coke - the cost was $150.00. Yes, that's correct: $150.00. Sure, there's a whole lobster on one of the platters. BUT, it wasn't that big by any means. And let's remember: 1 potato was included in the platter. 1 small red potato, came with it; at that price! Lol. Conclusion: Krustaceans is where you should go - for the seafood boiler platters. This place has really gone downhill. Had a complaint with their ordering process and was told the manager was "too busy" to speak to me despite there being only one other customer in the place. I asked for the manager's name and got the gen Z stare along with 'Kevin' but apparently Kevin's last name is a state secret. The food (cajun combo boil) wasn't as good as it used to be either. Nearly half the mussels were unopened, the sausage was a lot smaller than it used to be, and the single potato was tiny. This used to be a good place, which makes its decline kind of sad. We love seafood and have been excited to try this place! It seemed almost like a fast food restaurant, but is more like a fast casual order at the counter type of place. So we were skeptical at first about the quality, but the food was delicious! Love how they give you bibs and the messiness makes it more yummy! - Crab combo with snow crab, shrimp, mussels: we loved it! Everything was seasoned well and tasted amazing. It was pretty buttery though (which made it tasty), so I felt a bit bloated but it was worth it lol. I love the shrimp, the boiled egg was a great addition as well. Passing through from out of state and stopped in for a boil. Two members of my group - the only two to eat the boil - got powerfully sick. One vomited repeated while at the airport and the other barely avoided the same by taking massive amounts of DGL and an anti-microbic . Had to fly home in this state. The next day I reached out to the owner by phone in good faith to advise of the problem and ask only for the two boils to be refunded (the other meals were perfectly fine). I met with immediate resistance and an insistence upon medical tests and reported results. So, I need to incur further expenses by going to the hospital, getting two people in my family tested for a pathogen that's had nearly 24 hours to get clear from their system. I am certain this is a fluke for the Crab House. Their reviews on Yelp and Google are solid and I believe them. But good customer service takes a good customer at their word, apologizes and issues a refund. Bad customer service does not. Next call is to the state health department. Edit: Owner's response is still holding the line of policy barricading and pushback. There are times when that's appropriate, but this isn't one of them. Forms and tests? Proof? You're a restaurant, not a government bureaucracy. I worked in public health, specifically with food borne illnesses, and I know how it works. This was a great find on our trip through the area. The service was excellent and the food matched. We were greeted by Martin who offered great recommendations since it was our first visit. We ended up ordering the create your own Cajun Combo with a medium spice level that included 1 lb shrimp, 1 lb crawfish, two pieces of corn and a sausage; the fried catfish basket with hush puppies and an egg; and 6 hot wings with sauce on the side. Tarter and cocktail sauce and garlic butter came on the side. Everything was served piping hot and delicious. The boiled seafood was tender, flavorful and well seasoned without overpowering the delicate texture of the seafood. The catfish was lightly battered and had a clean flavor. The sausage had a gentle kick and was well seasoned with savory spices. We took the advice of Martin and dipped the sausage in the garlic butter - wow, a great recommendation! The hot wings were delicious. Had I known they were that good, i would have requested them as typically served tossed in the sauce. The hush puppies we not typical in that they too had a a great mix of spices and maybe herbs; crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The corn seemed to soak up the boiling spices as well and was tender and flavorful to the last bite. In addition to providing utensils, wet wipes, bibs and even gloves, they had a nice hand washing station near the entrance with great smelling soda and towels. It was a great space to wash up before and after eating. This place is a gem in Columbia, convenient pit stop for those driving between KC and STL right off the highway. Delicious Viet Cajun seafood. Regardless the spice level, I recommend adding garlic butter toppings for extra savory flavors. Their hot wings got a nice kick, great seasoning. Food comes out quick. Fresh seafood, they have a restaurant where they will cook it for you, you'll think you're at a seafood boil down south!! They also own a store where you can get the freshest seafood in Columbia to go! Fix it the way you want when you get it home. Inside of the restaurant is usually pretty quiet, I've never been there when it was crowded, you can also order it to go on one of our many local food delivery apps. Each meal came with 4 battered and fried shrimp, 2 battered and fried oysters, 1 corn meal coated fried catfish filet and battered french fries. The shrimp were large and very fresh. I do not normally eat fried oysters (not a fan!) but these were good enough I that I ate both. The catfish was also very good as were the fries. We were both full when we were done. Several very interesting looking crab plates were being served to some of the other diners while we were in there. The place was spotlessly clean - unlike the businesses that formerly occupied this establishment. One Yelp reviewer complained of a strong fish smell...I noticed no smell of any kind, just my food when they brought it out. We will come here again! read more

We stopped here on the way to Kansas City. I got the catfish dinner and DH got the shrimp. The catfish was just OK. I'm from the South and catfish should be dredged in cornmeal -- not flour. I got cole slaw and hushpuppies as sides. The coleslaw tasted and looked commercial, like you get in a deli and it tasted sweet-ish. I had a few bites and left the rest. The smell of seafood when you enter lets you know this isn't Captain D's. This is a crab shack with a light Cajun twist in a former fast food restaurant. If you don't want shellfish you have very limited options. I enjoyed a traditional and tasty crab boil lightly seasoned with Cajun powder. The lunch special Mini ($14.99) included two full sets of snow crab legs, 5 jumbo shrimp, a small cut of spicy sausage, short corn on the cob, and red potato delivered in a styrofoam container and plastic utensils. A shell bucket came alongside. My first thought upon seeing the meal was, "I'm going to need a bigger napkin." Fortunately, paper towels are on the tables and plastic bibs (and gloves) are nearby. At additional cost I got Cajun butter dipping sauce for my shrimp and crab. It was a spicier version of melted butter but without any heat. Everything was excellent. My only caution about Cajun Crab House is that if you're not looking for shellfish your options are very limited. The menu is fried, boiled, or steamed shrimp, various crab, crayfish, oysters, clams and mussels. Be aware: As of 8 July 2018, they are still in a "soft opening" stage. Not all dishes are available and the staff is obviously learning the business as they go. My wife and I dined here on their second day open and again a week later. The difference was noticeable. Had I rated them on the first visit, I would have given three stars. The second earned four. On the first visit, my wife had crawfish and boiled potatoes and corn. I had smoked sausage and boiled potatoes and corn. There were very few choices, as they had run out of many things or simply didn't offer them yet. According to Claire, the crawfish were properly cooked, meaty, and fresh. She liked the spicy/garlicky sauce (the staff call it a "glaze"). Her only disappointment was the lack of rice. My sausage and potatoes were excellent. The meat was not too greasy, nicely steamed, and with just enough heat to wake up the flavors. Potatoes were perfectly cooked. On the second visit, Claire got a pound of shrimp and of crabs, with boiled potatoes and corn. I ordered fried catfish, hush puppies, and fries. My catfish was great. Very crispy, crunchy exterior. The meat of the fish was tender and mild. Fries were also perfectly cooked. The hush puppies, while fine, were forgettable and to receive exactly two, quarter sized portions, seemed skimpy. Claire raved about the shrimp and crabs. Called them perfectly made and lots of meat. Again, the potatoes and corn were winners. Oddly, they included a thumb size portion of sausage with her food. Not wanting it, she gave it to me. It was flat out awful. Having soaked in the serving of shrimp and crab, it was gray, watery, and tasted like a chimera of fish and pig. Not a fan. Overall, I'm excited for this addition to Columbia's dining scene. The staff are friendly and helpful, food overall is good and improving, and prices are reasonable. I'm looking forward to returning and fully expect them to earn a fifth star. read more

I actually tipped an extra $10 after we were done with the meal because of how nice and friendly the service was ...unfortunately exactly one hour after we ate , my wife and I started to feel Sick ...we ended up spending the following six hours in and out of the bathroom throwing up and suffering from painful diarrhea... I honest to God thought I was dying ...I lost 3 pounds in 6 hours !!! Today is the next day and thank God we are both doing much better but I am still too sick to go to work ...
